Crash 4 is a true sequel to crash 3 warped, The story feels fresh and awesome to the franchise, controls feels like the original trilogy but with new awesome mechanics like rope swing, rail grind and wall jumps, the quantom masks abilitys are awesome, The Boss Fights are more fun than ever, This Game is A Masterpiece, i Love every second of it.

Dont be fool this isnt a Crash 3 follow up, but rather is a TfB project, nothing bad with that as gameplay wise they try to come as close as possible, but while playing such things stood out as the jumping being very floaty and how many similar mechanics they incorporated from the RnC series; wall jump (understandable), grinding (they really use this one a ton), slowing time (a la Future)Dont be fool this isnt a Crash 3 follow up, but rather is a TfB project, nothing bad with that as gameplay wise they try to come as close as possible, but while playing such things stood out as the jumping being very floaty and how many similar mechanics they incorporated from the RnC series; wall jump (understandable), grinding (they really use this one a ton), slowing time (a la Future) and gravitating to the roof amd floor (nexus). Also they focused more on collectibles, which many who enjoy doing this will have their hands full, personally im with the group that preffer just collecting crates (simpler yet effective). And Before focunsing on visuals and story, the bosses in this game are rather uninspiring, they most just use machines or contraptions (while Brio was nearly felt the same as C1 but slower and more boring). No i want to focus on my previous statement, why does it feel like more like TfB Crash project than a follow up for Warped? The answer comes in Visually and Story telling. The characters visually look and feel from a Skylanders game not Warped, with unnecessary redesigns where shapes and frames are completely change (example Coco n N.Gin, and Crash's weird neck dilemma), and this is something that completely stands out and i see many reviewers not pointing this out. And the story, with the exception of the intro, nothing else is mention or reference from Warped. Crash hasnt had a chance (with the exception of Twinsanity) to tell a fleshed out story ala Jak, Sly or Ratchet, but here he gets his chance and was lackluster. We have the premise of the multiple rift opening that Uka did (this being his last appearance on the story, and only mentioned once after this), from there on the story develops, and while some interactions with the masks are nice, most of this felt out of a fan fiction with many callbacks to previous games, dull characters interactions that one would day dream of, the complete focus on exaggerated expressions (i understand TfB wanted to focus on this, but they went full with this, it felt like they wanted to achieve every model expression for each character sheet got checked), the overly use multiverse concept thats been beaten to death and use as a free pass for stuff like Tawna's new design (she's from a different universe, which is just an excuse to show off their take on the character, lime they've done with almost the entire cast), the incorporations of meme that only the fanbase will recognize (i understand that their take on the story was one to be seen with a lack of seriousness, but adding the woah meme...that was the lamest thing done in this franchise, just embarrassing.), and the portrayal of characters (Cortex being a goof lile for 95% of the game, Dingodile's uninspiring inclusion in the story and becoming one of the group, Brio working with Cortex again with no explination whatsoever) . All in all, im glad Crash is back, but dont let you're nostalgia and hype blind you, despite this being billed as a Crash 3 follow up (which one would not recognize unless you read the summary or see the 4 in the cover), cause visually this is inspired on Crash of the Titans and Skylanders. The boss battles are uninspired.

It starts out strong, but it quickly starts going downhill. After the first 2 levels there are the occasional great one, but most of them range from mediocre to downright bad.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Its About Time, sin duda alguna, es un buen juego.

They ruined a perfectly good game by adding a cringy mary-sue with feminist hair. And she's much stronger than Crash, the protagonist. So they are doing what the woke hollywood is doing -- making a show supposedly about Obi Wan, but making him a loser that is upstaged by that Inquisitor chick, or even a 10-year-old Leia.

It can almost be said that this game is one of the hardest crash bandicoot made.

Onto the game itself, in my opinion, a good comeback for crash level design is pretty challenging. The devs don't mindlessly nitro spam to "add difficulty" like traveler's tales did with Wrath of Cortex. The masks feel pretty well done. Love the mask that lets you form and reform platforms. That one imo is the hardest mask to use but at the same time fun. Crash controls fine just the weight of his jumps are kinda heavy just like in N Sane Trilogy. But overall not supper sluggish like his movements in again Wrath of Cortex. Death routes make a return in the form of these flashback tapes. The designs of the death routes are similar to Crash 1's Brio segments. So the new playable characters Dingodile, Twana are pretty nice and control well but Cortex is just awful. Imagine a **** version of how Cortex controlled in Crash Twinsanity with a tiny hop of a jump without any double-jump but with a gun that can make platforms. Probably my biggest issue is Cortex and the music in the game. The music is just...average, not as good as the original trilogy but better than the music in Travelers Tales and Radical Entertainments games. Lets just hope Toys For Bob and Vicarious Visions can keep this up and improve. Expand

Extra playable characters are a wonderful addition and totally keep in line with the feel of the rest of the game. Mandatory parts of the game are a solid challenge, but the bonus stages and optional content are on another level. This game costs $20 more than Crash N. Sane Trilogy. You would expect a longer campaign at that price, but it is extremely short. It only lasts for about 6 hours. The developers were too greedy and lazy to make a longer campaign. Speaking of lazy, the level design is lazily designed in this game. When I checked the back of the game case, it said you could play with 2-4 players. I was excited to play it, only to find out that this game has the most pathetic attempt at multiplayer I ever seen in my life. You can not play together at the same time. The multiplayer is just trying to beat your friend's score or time on a singleplayer level. This is false advertising. You could literally play any game and just ask a friend to beat your score/time on a level. That is not multiplayer.

Seeing how the so-called "multiplayer" isn't actually multiplayer, there is practically no multiplayer in this game. So once you beat the story, this game will go back to the shelf and collect dust. Charging $60 for a game with no replay value is a cashgrab. And they had the audacity to charge $20 more for this game than Crash N. Sane Trilogy, even though the latter is 2-3 times longer. I recommend you wait until this game is free on PS Plus.

However can't give it a 10/10  because of the loading times and other few nitpicks, getting the box gem can be a fun challenge but some of the levels have boxes hidden off screen so you will miss boxes a lot and it's a cheap way to force you replaying the levels and wait for a long loading times, but collecting boxes is not the only side stuff you can do, you have time trials of course and the no death gem and the perfect relics, and the perfect relics are ridiculous the levels are too long and difficult so beating them while breaking every box and not dying just don't work it's not fun it's just tedious because you have to wait around half minute every time you replay the levels, a solution for this is just remove the loading screen and the completion will be more than fine and manageable, the inverted mode is cool but I don't know why you have to collect six gems in every level again, the flashback tapes are the only great side content it'll give you new levels and extra dialogues, those things are optional so don't bother doing them if you are not interested, playing the game casually and just going from level to level and enjoying the level design until you beat the story it's one of the best platforming games ever made Expand

Simply one of the best games in the franchise and one of the best of the year.
I recommend it to all fans of the style.

There's one power up that allows you to spin constantly, and it gives you a bit more air time when jumping, but for the most part it isn't that novel, nor that well implemented.

The game has a ton of content however, you can play as different characters, both villains, and heroes, new ones, as well as old ones.

You get different levels of all types, costumes for Crash and Coco (who you can play as, as well).

These costumes get unlocked as you obtain gems from levels, that you can get by collecting wampa fruits throughout the levels, (think of the coins in mario but specific for this franchise).

You can also get gems by finding secret passages, or replaying the same level with different varieties, like there's one that makes it so the colors turn into an strange mix that makes the whole level look textureless, despite it being called "negative" for some reason.

Good game overall, but at time really challenging, plus what they did to the pc version with the always online requirement on Battle.net is absolutely abysmal.

Beautiful game, and as infuriating as the other installments. The game gets progressively difficult especially if you want to 100% (or try to) each level. Loads of extras to keep you interested and massive variety of levels. By the end though, the difficulty really ramps up and almost puts you at 'lets just get this done so i can move on' state of mind.

I love the original crash trilogy just as much as anybody, but even I can look back and admit, crash has never been anything better than just good.. and playing through crash 4 had me asking myself ould this be it.. could this be the great game we all knew crash could be…
I started out loving crash, the initial challenge, the beautifully crafted levels, the nostalga of going through each level trying to break all of the boxes, getting to play with my girlfriend, I loved it.. but the glaring problems crash 4 possesses, stop it from ultimately hitting that definitive, wow.. this is a great game…
For starters the structure here with the gems, you have a challenges of collect this many wumpa fruit, collect all the boxes, find the hidden gem, get through the level only dying this many times… all of this is great.. I love adding more challenge to levels, giving replayablity incentive.. but how these gems are handled is what tarnished this system.. they are for skins… but rather than getting as many gems as you can in a level to save them up for your favorite skins.. the game forces you to do every or near every challenge in a level to unlock its skin… and because of this I didn’t even bother… one of the main hooks of a crash bandicoot game for me, is its collectables aspect, breaking all of the boxes, searching for its hidden gem.. but if I miss one cheap box on a rail section im automatically disqualified from unlocking that levels skin unless I want to replay the whole level again.. a major respect of my time and effort.. there is literally no incentive to do anything but get to the finish line with a sytem like this… especially now that lives are no longer a thing… as crash 4 is more designed to be trial and error, bang your head against the wall difficulty that just stops being fun a little more than halfway through this 9 hour game… I don’t find annoying im going to try and kill you every step you take luck based obstacles to be fun, and this is all crash 4 ends up being by its end.. from a fun collectathon to straight up frustration and levels that eventually just become so dull and drag on forever… thanlfully Crash 4 is more good than bad.. it is full of so much content, new characters and bonus levels, again, so many skins to unlock if you care to take on its challenges… I just would’ve personally liked a more friendly approach to the gem system, turn it into currency rather than progress, so that someone like me and really anyone with not a whole lot of time on their hands can enjoy that aspect of at least trying to break all of the boxes and grab all of the fruit, because once you miss one box or you die right before a checkpoint after a long slog, you just don’t want to do it.. you don’t care about the boxes and exploring… this killed part of what makes crash bandicoot so special…
but this is a special game, in fact while it has no memorable moments or levels like the previous games do..i believe crash 4 is the best game in the series… so much great foundation with the multiple masks adding new elements such as gravity or appearing and disappearing platforms, new characters with their own play styles… just work on the pacing. Let me breathe a little in between the constant im gonna kill you obstacles..give me incentive to collect even with a time crunch life.. and maybe. Just maybe.. crash bandicoot 5 can be this first great game in the series…
I give Crash Bandicoot 4: Its about time

However, I can state that while I thoroughly enjoyed the first half of the game, I did not find myself enjoying the second half as much. The reason? The difficulty. This coupled with the very long levels really tried my patience in the latter stages of the game. I was stunned at how difficult it was to simply finish a level. The thought of trying to get 100% in this game fills me with dread!

Overall, I think this game will satisfy fans of Crash Bandicoot who were hoping they would finally get a sequel that is on par with the original trilogy.

That's a miracle considering that Crash Bandicoot was a dead franchise for the past decade or so thanks to Vivendi and Activision having released a multitude of games ranging from mediocre to awful (not unlike Sonic the Hedgehog, I'm afraid). Then the unthinkable happened, with Activision releasing a remake of the original Playstation games (The N. Sane Trilogy and Crash Team Racing Nitro-Fueled) and re-igniting interest in the series. I grew up with Crash Bandicoot and I'm thankful for the existence of this exquisite 4th game.

Gameplay is a return to form for the series, with new abilities such as wall jump, wall running, dimension-swapping, and even a few more playable characters with different playstyles. You have to break all boxes in order to unlock gems and whatnot, but you won't be able to do all these things until you progress far into the game and acquire more abilities. After you beat a level you can replay it with a time attack mode or the so-called "N. Verted mode" where you run through the inverted level plus graphical filters that change the look and feel of the level. In other words, if you wanna 100% this game you will have to replay all the levels many, many times.

Don't let the cartoony graphics fool you, this is a tough platformer to play. I'd say difficulty is somewhere in-between the 1st and 2nd games. It's not as hardcore as the infamous 1st game, but it's no Crash Bandicoot 3: Warped-style walk in the park either where you could beat most levels on 1st try without dying once. Even if you don't attempt to break all crates and expose your character to danger, expect to die at least 5 times on each level on the 1st try on this new game (if you aim to break all the boxes expect to die 10+ times). The bosses are cool, too, not too far away from the boss fights of the first games.

Graphics are very nice, although I'd like Crash Bandicoot's design to be closer to a teenager/young adult aesthetic (more in-line with how Crash Bandicoot used to be a teenager/young adult icon back in the day) than this kid-friendly look that somehow annoys me. On both PS4 and PS4 Pro the game renders at 1080p and runs with an uncapped frame rate, ranging 30-50 fps on PS4 and 55-60 fps on PS4 Pro. This is disappointing news for PS4 users as I feel that 60 fps should have been the target for a platformer, even if it meant reducing the quality of the graphics. It's not unplayable on PS4 but if you have the option, play this game at 60 fps on PC, PS4 Pro or PS5.

I'm still playing through Crash Bandicoot 4 and it's a joy to revisit one of my favorite franchises. I definitely recommend this game to any platformer fan, especially considering that nowadays platformers are not exactly abundant.

Crash 4 just tries to do too much and the result is a jack of all trades master of none. It's not a bad game by any means, great cut scenes, humor, and voice acting, but the most fun you'll have in crash 4 is when the level design takes obvious inspiration from the original trilogy and that only happens about 50% of the time.

The original crash trilogy were master crafted platformers (besides crash 3 was a bit on the weak side). Crash 4 is not, it's a pretty strange platformer. More like a puzzle flavored platformer rather than a fluid platformer like the original trilogy. And what I mean by that is sometimes you have to stop moving to examine an area and think about the abilities you'll need to use to progress. One character is so poorly designed that you actually have to suicide if you moved forward without using the right ability. There's several characters to play with, some of them you will hate playing with, others you will enjoy. I'll give credit where credit is due. Boss fights are actually really fun in this game, better than any other crash. But overall it's just a weaker platformer than the original trilogy. I'd still recommend it. It's worth playing, it just doesn't feel like a true successor to the crash series. They nailed the aesthetics but not the gameplay.

Probably the best Crash Bandicoot game, right after Crash Team Racing.
Although I obtained the platinum trophy in my PS4 version (along with the other 4 platinum trophies in the rest of Crash games), I must admit that the difficulty level in this game is ridiculously high. I was very close to giving up, mainly due to N.Sanely Perfect Relics and horrendously long loading times, but

Also, the graphics are significantly different from the previous games - now the graphics are more comics, which I didn't particularly like.

I would give it 9/10, but I deducted two points for the difficulty level and graphics change.

    THE STORY AND PREVIOUS GAMES:
Crash Bandicoot 4: It’s About Time is direct sequel to the previous trilogy and a new release to the series in over 10-whole-years! Previous original release (not counting remakes) was Crash Bandicoot 3: Warped, which It’s About Time continues directly from. I know, all the names and releases might get little bit confusing, because the series started all the way from 1996 on PS1 through PS4, and some releases in U.S. and EU got different names on them — AND! — there’s also other Crash -games that are out of the main series. Sigh. But, that doesn’t mean, you can’t play this newest game! Not at all!

Crash Bandicoot games used to have rather simple storylines and they can be read online quickly, if you wanna catch up. If you really wanna jump-in, then you should play Crash Bandicoot N. Sane Trilogy, the remade first three games. One huge difference It’s About Time has to the previous titles; the story got much more content this time around. I mean, there’s even some plot twists and all!! The amount of cutscenes also seems more than tripled with new characters included.

I love the whole plot and storytelling, specially those overlapping plots (i.e. what happens elsewhere at the same time and how it affects your current gameplay). The gameplay and story got more longetivity by throwing twists and turns in it, which did felt as they belong than forcefully trying to make the game longer.

    GAMEPLAY, CONTROLS, GRAPHICS AND SOUND:
Comparing to the previous release (N. Sane Trilogy), It’s About Time is pretty much the same with the gameplay. I did feel this being more easy title, than the N. Sane Trilogy, becauase I couldn’t completely finish that title, but this one was much more ease to play through. The game also does include lots of new stuff like those masks that grants superpowers, N. Verted mode (that changes the levels to create more challenge), new character Tawna, Timelines (playing levels with other character’s perspective), Flashback tapes (to play levels that tell stories Crash and Coco’s past) and many other new and old things were added to keep the gameplay interesting. I must say, I was first time ever interested to collect everything and try to beat the game 100%! Everything felt balanced and the levels got harder peacefully.

Controls were almost the same, but of course including the new moves that comes with each mask and character. I have to mention something about the characters, though. All of them moves differently and it was painful trying to quickly be comfortable with them. It took time to memorize their moves and what they can do and what they cannot.

Graphically this is like playing an animation movie. Everything’s such lush, colourful and rich. Level design stays true to the Crash Bandicoot series and I don’t think it needed any major changes. The levels and areas varies greatly from theme to theme, sometimes I just stopped playing and gazed the scenery.

The sound desing was interesting, all sounded familiar, but new. All the new music and sound effects did remain the signature Crash Bandicoot style. In video games, the music or certain sound effects might get repeatedly annoying, but I didn’t feel any of that, because it varied greatly and didn’t felt copy-pasted.

COMPILING IT ALL TOGETHER: Crash Bandicoot 4 has lots of characters (new and old) and fresh exciting story. I did find the story and the countless cutscene animations overly intriguing for the first time. The cutscenes didn’t always feel ultra short, like they previously used to be, but were long enough to grant a little break and gaze the beautiful and sharp animation.

I think the new character Tawna should’ve had more exposure and levels to play, because her skill and moves were cool. For the first time I think there’s so much content in a Crash Bandicoot game, that I’m not gonna explain them all here, but let players discover them by themselves. I did play this long hours (almost 20h) and for a long period of time, because I did wanted to collect things and find secrets. Don’t be afraid to jump off the screen or try some odd stunt moves, to check does it hide a secret, because I did just that all the time, and was surprised to find hidden things.

Crash Bandicoot 4 has a long lifespan and great replayability value. Yes, I did lost my nerve sometimes, but it wasn’t like it made me rage quit and throw the controller out of the window, because the game is developed to help if you fail too many times. It’ll add checkpoint boxes or grants you Aku-Aku mask for make it little easier to reach the next checkpoint.

This is excellent sequel to the main series and I (who’ve been playing Crash games since 1998) truly recommend this to your platforming collection.

Because levels are huge, and you have to die alot of times (8-99,9 deaths to end one level), and you didn't know where is danger, you don't see sometimes(almost all the time) danger moments and have to VERY learn each level for just to simple end one level. So, in CB4 you can easily achieve Rage quits and etc. You are getting tired fast and some times getting bad mood after game. But if you achieve your mood will be good!) I had master league in SC2, but dis difficulty in that game some times just really insane + there are still some little issues with controlling comparing to difficulty.

First levels are fun and chill (Developers are trolls =]), but middle end and very end levels are insanly hard - masochistly Fun! Yes you can end game, it's real even in Retro mode, but you can forget about platinum, or mb not...(thoughs about c**tex c*s*l

Game is beautifull itself, cartoon graphics/gameplay/sound/abilities - very good. Just Great! But absurd difficulty some times may ruining expirience in my opinion (it's platformer for kids right or...?). So the game is 8.9/10 because of The Difficulty. I don't know recomend it for kids 8-12 years or not... guess not... Nerves.. broken gamepads and etc(on boxes must be written "Absolutely not for children" or "16+" or "21+" or "not for ppls with mental health problems", because game itself want you to suffer...). I guess Nsane trilogy is better for kids: more fun-calming and human freindly...) CB4 in 3 trimes harder than N'sane trilogy if to compare.

Any Way The Game is Beautiful and so damn Hard a la Dendi platformer styles with alot of Fun, i would say alot of different kind of Fun..)

    Very enjoyable game overall.

It's very much the classic Crash gameplay, with several new additions. I enjoyed the variety that is added by the various masks and the fact that these can add a bit more of a puzzle element to the game. It is brutally hard at times! In spite of the cartoony graphics and characters, don't be fooled into thinking this is a game aimed at kids. Especially if

Especially if you start aiming for the N Sanely perfect and the platinum relics you will discover there is a very high skill ceiling and incredibly challenging trophy list.

NOT a fan of the N Verted levels. These just seem like a cheap, low effort way of making the game feel bigger than it is.

Crash Bandicoot 4: It's About Time is an incredible return to form for new Crash games. It excels in almost every area and falls flat in almost none. The visual appeal, mass amounts of content and new gameplay mechanics such as the masks can leave the player with hours upon hours of fun (and frustration), making it well worth the investment. I can only see Crash going up from here.

I went in expecting a pushover due to a different developer and new artstyle, but boy was I wrong. This game was hard as hell, but still a fun experience with great level design, solid music, and you have yourself one of the best Crash games

Very fun upbeat game to have and play, I haven’t touched any of the crash games past the original first 3 (not even the trilogy) but this threw me right back into it, I’m definitely playing the N-sane trilogy after that

*Don't miss out on the inverted mode it’s actually fun too

And that's coming from a completionist. 6 gems from each level, then each level has 6 inverted gems as well, then you got the time trial relics (which you need all platinum to get a trophy), the tapes, and the badges of each level that say you got all of the boxes without dying in the level. Add in the fact that you had to play some of those levels as Dr. Neo Cortex (worst playable character in the game). the game also seems to need some more work done to it. After a gravity section, I jumped on a trampoline box and I ended up dying because I jumped too high. another time, I slid off a TNT box to get to another box below it and as soon as the slide was done, the game says I fell into a pit. I would consider this the third-best game in the series, but not the best. Expand

I have never beaten a single game in this franchise other than Crash Team Racing :Nitro Fueled. I don't really count that though because that's a racing game instead of one of the traditional platformers in the series. I don't really count that though because that's a racing game instead of one of the traditional platformers in the series. I do think that this is a very good game and a lot of hard work went into it but after I complete this game, I'm not sure I'll ever play it again. At least not a new playthrough. I love much of the level design and the abilities that the masks provide, and the game is just so colorful and nicely detailed. However, while I expect for a Crash game to be challenging, the level of frustration I'm feeling here makes me not want to play for any more than one level at a time. I don't want it to be too easy of a game but at the same time, I either find myself taking breaks or playing other games almost immediately. The new modern mode is appreciated for the simple fact that it allows for you to have unlimited lives but that still doesn't make the game any less annoying for me. But retro mode is there too. I barely get boxes as it is now because by the time I get to a certain point in the level, I've died so many times to where I don't care about getting the Collectibles. I just want to finish. I rate the game an 8 because the fact that it frustrates me doesn't make it a bad game. The quality is there and it lives up to what these games are known for if you ask me. But be warned. It'll stress you out. I'm embarrassed to say that a game can get me that worked up but this one definitely has. Expand

I was pleasantly surprised when playing this game. I am a big fan of the series and this game fits nicely with the others. It's extremely difficult, but that's to be expected. It looks and plays very well too. Fans should be ecstatic to play this one, it really shocked me in the best way possible. I'd say it's a must-buy for any platformer fan.

The classic 'Crash' gameplay is here in droves, but as you progress you will soon discover that the developers have taken this gameplay and turned it on its head, putting an interesting new spin on a familiar concept (I'll stop now). The level design is absolutely first class, as you negotiate vintage Bandicoot territory but also a vast array of immersive new worlds, all finely detailed to an extent not previously seen in the series. The characters are fleshed out in a way which really compliments the look and feel of the game, each one exceptionally animated and portrayed with a zaniness almost reminiscent of a Looney Tunes cartoon. There are more playable characters than ever before, yet pleasingly they aren't just shoehorned in and each one segues into the narrative of the story brilliantly. Finally, a special mention for the soundtrack; Walter Mair does a phenomenal job here, managing to create a soundscape which is ambient and colorful whilst remaining 100% typically 'Crash', incorporating melodies from levels and boss fights of old. All in all, this is an absolute gem of a game (heh!) which Toys For Bob (and Activision) should be very proud of. There are a few minor niggles (the shoddy Polar Bear controls and the occasional misfire with Crash's 'jump' action) but hopefully these can be fixed through patches. Expand

I honestly did not expect such a stellar game. Crash Bandicoot 4 is breathtakingly beautiful, features an amazing soundtrack full of references to the original trilogy, offers tons of content, and thrilled me to bits with its brilliant level design. What’s more, it stayed true to its gameplay roots, while introducing loads of great new mechanics. For me it’s the game of the year. I salute you, Toys For Bob! [12/2020, p.58]

Crash Bandicoot 4 is a worthy addition to the Crash legacy. It captures the spirit, fun, and challenge of the original games, and adds a lot more that genuinely makes the experience even better rather than simply padding out the gameplay. The game is certainly challenging and the levels could probably use a few more checkpoints, but the number in the game is truer to the spirit of the originals than modern gaming standards. A little perseverance will get you through the game, but it’s going to take a little work if you want to be a Crash completionist. Overall it’s a great platform game that perfectly blends the old and the new into a fun new experience.
