A mejorar, poca

A mejorar, poca cosa la verdad, quizás un sistema online para superar niveles con amigos. No le doy más nota por que no es el tipo de juegos que me encantan, pero aún así una excelente obra recomendable, sin dudas.

That's a miracle considering that Crash Bandicoot was a dead franchise for the past decade or so thanks to Vivendi and Activision having released a multitude of games ranging from mediocre to awful (not unlike Sonic the Hedgehog, I'm afraid). Then the unthinkable happened, with Activision releasing a remake of the original Playstation games (The N. Sane Trilogy and Crash Team Racing Nitro-Fueled) and re-igniting interest in the series. I grew up with Crash Bandicoot and I'm thankful for the existence of this exquisite 4th game.

Gameplay is a return to form for the series, with new abilities such as wall jump, wall running, dimension-swapping, and even a few more playable characters with different playstyles. You have to break all boxes in order to unlock gems and whatnot, but you won't be able to do all these things until you progress far into the game and acquire more abilities. After you beat a level you can replay it with a time attack mode or the so-called "N. Verted mode" where you run through the inverted level plus graphical filters that change the look and feel of the level. In other words, if you wanna 100% this game you will have to replay all the levels many, many times.

Don't let the cartoony graphics fool you, this is a tough platformer to play. I'd say difficulty is somewhere in-between the 1st and 2nd games. It's not as hardcore as the infamous 1st game, but it's no Crash Bandicoot 3: Warped-style walk in the park either where you could beat most levels on 1st try without dying once. Even if you don't attempt to break all crates and expose your character to danger, expect to die at least 5 times on each level on the 1st try on this new game (if you aim to break all the boxes expect to die 10+ times). The bosses are cool, too, not too far away from the boss fights of the first games.

Graphics are very nice, although I'd like Crash Bandicoot's design to be closer to a teenager/young adult aesthetic (more in-line with how Crash Bandicoot used to be a teenager/young adult icon back in the day) than this kid-friendly look that somehow annoys me. On both PS4 and PS4 Pro the game renders at 1080p and runs with an uncapped frame rate, ranging 30-50 fps on PS4 and 55-60 fps on PS4 Pro. This is disappointing news for PS4 users as I feel that 60 fps should have been the target for a platformer, even if it meant reducing the quality of the graphics. It's not unplayable on PS4 but if you have the option, play this game at 60 fps on PC, PS4 Pro or PS5.

I'm still playing through Crash Bandicoot 4 and it's a joy to revisit one of my favorite franchises. I definitely recommend this game to any platformer fan, especially considering that nowadays platformers are not exactly abundant.

Because levels are huge, and you have to die alot of times (8-99,9 deaths to end one level), and you didn't know where is danger, you don't see sometimes(almost all the time) danger moments and have to VERY learn each level for just to simple end one level. So, in CB4 you can easily achieve Rage quits and etc. You are getting tired fast and some times getting bad mood after game. But if you achieve your mood will be good!) I had master league in SC2, but dis difficulty in that game some times just really insane + there are still some little issues with controlling comparing to difficulty.

First levels are fun and chill (Developers are trolls =]), but middle end and very end levels are insanly hard - masochistly Fun! Yes you can end game, it's real even in Retro mode, but you can forget about platinum, or mb not...(thoughs about c**tex c*s*l

Game is beautifull itself, cartoon graphics/gameplay/sound/abilities - very good. Just Great! But absurd difficulty some times may ruining expirience in my opinion (it's platformer for kids right or...?). So the game is 8.9/10 because of The Difficulty. I don't know recomend it for kids 8-12 years or not... guess not... Nerves.. broken gamepads and etc(on boxes must be written "Absolutely not for children" or "16+" or "21+" or "not for ppls with mental health problems", because game itself want you to suffer...). I guess Nsane trilogy is better for kids: more fun-calming and human freindly...) CB4 in 3 trimes harder than N'sane trilogy if to compare.

Any Way The Game is Beautiful and so damn Hard a la Dendi platformer styles with alot of Fun, i would say alot of different kind of Fun..)

If you're used to not relying on walkthroughs you're going to have a hard time with this game.

Past Crash games required a certain skill level that you could build while playing the game. Some levels required extensive trial and error but overall you knew what you had to do and you enjoyed every part of the grinding process. In Crash 4, there's simply so much to do that you can quickly get distracted. NVerted mode, which is a fancy way of saying that you're playing the same levels in a mirror mode, feels bloated and old. The extra characters bring enjoyment but the fact that you can only use them on certain levels seems rather restrictive. The main story is easy, but 100% completion seems impossible if you want to keep your sanity. Getting all crates at most levels is unnecessarily hard. It like playing a Dark Souls version of Crash. Also getting the colored gems required for accessing bonus platforms is laughable. It's not about skill, it;s about luck or getting in the level designer's mind. Flashback tapes are way better if you want a reasonable challenge reminiscent of the past

Crash 4 just tries to do too much and the result is a jack of all trades master of none. It's not a bad game by any means, great cut scenes, humor, and voice acting, but the most fun you'll have in crash 4 is when the level design takes obvious inspiration from the original trilogy and that only happens about 50% of the time.

The original crash trilogy were master crafted platformers (besides crash 3 was a bit on the weak side). Crash 4 is not, it's a pretty strange platformer. More like a puzzle flavored platformer rather than a fluid platformer like the original trilogy. And what I mean by that is sometimes you have to stop moving to examine an area and think about the abilities you'll need to use to progress. One character is so poorly designed that you actually have to suicide if you moved forward without using the right ability. There's several characters to play with, some of them you will hate playing with, others you will enjoy. I'll give credit where credit is due. Boss fights are actually really fun in this game, better than any other crash. But overall it's just a weaker platformer than the original trilogy. I'd still recommend it. It's worth playing, it just doesn't feel like a true successor to the crash series. They nailed the aesthetics but not the gameplay.

The story is also way more vibrant and they really made coco have a prominent role in the story, and the animations are beautiful as well. My only gripe with this game though is how hard it is to obtain the costumes/skins you can unlock. In a normal play through, I was only able to get 1 costume during it and I kinda wish i was able to get them more frequently Expand

There's one power up that allows you to spin constantly, and it gives you a bit more air time when jumping, but for the most part it isn't that novel, nor that well implemented.

The game has a ton of content however, you can play as different characters, both villains, and heroes, new ones, as well as old ones.

You get different levels of all types, costumes for Crash and Coco (who you can play as, as well).

These costumes get unlocked as you obtain gems from levels, that you can get by collecting wampa fruits throughout the levels, (think of the coins in mario but specific for this franchise).

You can also get gems by finding secret passages, or replaying the same level with different varieties, like there's one that makes it so the colors turn into an strange mix that makes the whole level look textureless, despite it being called "negative" for some reason.

Good game overall, but at time really challenging, plus what they did to the pc version with the always online requirement on Battle.net is absolutely abysmal.

The game is good but too many mechanics are awful. Finishing the levels without dying, and also having to take all the crates is sometimes really impossible. The crates are often too many and too hidden, reaching the end of the level with 599 crates out of 600 and missing one that was off the screen is unnerving

Playing through this game has led to some mixed impressions on my part. Let me start off by saying that the "E 10+" rating is somewhat deceptive. While I'm only an average Crash player this game is pretty difficult even for someone like me who has played Crash since Warped. At one point Dingodile says the word "bastards". That made me chuckle for awhile. I just wanted to include those two things for any parents of young children who are reading this review. The game might not necessarily be a good introduction to Crash for them. Anyways on to the main review.

    1) Plot - Yeah it's a Crash game. Stop Cortex from taking over the universe yada yada yada. You know the drill at this point. I love Crash games but let's face it - If you want a game with a plot you're playing the wrong series. And that's fine because Crash is about fun and has always had a loose plot.

    2) Graphics/playable characters - Very good and immersive graphics. The prehistoric levels are probably my favorite in this game and in my view some of the best in the series. The redesign of Crash and Tawna annoyed me a bit but it's nothing too major in my view. Overall beautiful graphics and fun to look at. You get to play as Crash, Coco, Dingodile, Tawna and even Cortex which is enjoyable.

    3) Soundtrack - Not a lot to say here. Pretty average honestly. The N-Gin fight and a couple of others are memorable enough. But mostly just average or forgettable.

    4) Difficulty - Oh boy here we go. This is going to take awhile. A game like Crash 1 is a good measuring stick as it's difficult but fair. Crash 2 is easier but not too easy and probably the best difficulty in the series in my opinion. Crash 3 (Warped) is my favorite Crash game but it is definitely the easiest of the three originals. I like challenge in my games but Crash 4 is over the top difficult just to complete the story. The later levels, especially Cortex's Castle, are not enjoyable in the difficulty. The levels are too long and have too many boxes that are hidden in dumb places. That's okay occasionally but not all the time and should be reserved for hidden gems. It honestly feels like some of the levels were designed by fans to make the game as frustrating as possible rather than by professional developers. I have no desire to go back and try for 105% (or whatever percent it is) with this game. In comparison the original games and the N-Sane trilogy make me want to go back for more.

4a) Difficulty - Adding to that, the game includes a death counter instead of the traditional lives system. (This can be switched back and forth) The reason for the death counter is because you WILL die. And die a lot. The fact that the death counter is even included is a red flag for me as it seems the game is difficult just for the sake of being difficult. The maps seem crowded for the sake of being crowded a lot of the time. Crash 1 is somewhat difficult but the difficulty is fair. It seems like Toys for Bob took the whole "dark souls" comparison to heart and made this game as hard as they could. To me that's just not all that enjoyable. The game is still fun at times but too often it's just frustrating in ways that not even Crash 1 can compare. Crash 1's difficulty is challenging but does not take away from the fun of the game for me. Crash 4 does take away some of the fun. Crash 4 is still a decent game and I don't wish to bash it. But with the difficulty, some of the level designs and overall frustration it is not as good as it could be.

    5) Mechanics - Some flaws here as well. The mask powers are interesting, but they are frustrating and clunky at times. (Gravity and Spinning masks) The spinning mask has no reason to exist anyways. Why was this even included when we could have just kept the double jump followed by the death tornado spin (now removed) to clear long jumps? In this instance the old system was much better and less tedious. Also the parts of the game where you climb on the sides of walls is incredibly clunky and frustrating. I don't know how many deaths I had falling off the walls that shouldn't have been deaths. It was a lot. The Crash Dash mechanic was also removed in favor of fast spinning. Why? I don't know. Some of the platforming is also quite tedious when it doesn't need to be.

    6) Humor - Crash games generally have some humor. This one is no different. Even being older now some of the jokes made me smile. It's nice to have a game with humor that both kids and adults can enjoy.

TLDR Conclusion - A sometimes fun game that is weighed down by its frustrating difficulty and mechanics. I would only recommend it for long time Crash fans. If you're new to the franchise just play the N-Sane trilogy instead. You'll be happy you did.

This game is so ridiculous in a way that it caters ONLY to the hardcore gamers. Crash 1 was legit hard but average players can still beat it and have fun. The difficulty of this game consists mostly of 2 things: The length of the maps and the camera angle behind Crash which is so zoomed out that its hard to control where he will land, thats why they added the location marker under Crash which i thought was a decent fix but poor design nonetheless.

Best Crash games have Crash zoomed in more (just like some of the maps in this game like Nitro Processed which is actually one of the few maps that i liked).
The length of the maps are so ridiculous because its EVERY map and they are so tedious that each hindrance is just repeated again and again. It feels so lazy, uninspired and uncreative, because most maps actually have 1-2 good ideas that the whole map consists of.
ND did this sometimes like in Crash 1 but it was mostly the 2 stages of going over the bridge which were relatively short because they were so brutal.
Here its every map and they are so ridiculously tedious.

The audio for this game is very boring, best songs are poor remixes of the masterpieces from ND.
The only reason i give it a 2 is because of good graphics and cutscenes. I thought they were the best part about this game and i liked how Dingodile was expanded and become a retired good guy. Kinda like Crash Bash.

Anyway i regret purchasing this game on sale because i've already uninstalled after beating the game because i just dont wanna go through those maps again. I liked that they added content and more characters but alot of it is just lazy (like reverted diamonds and different colors for bosses) or super hard like finding all the stupidly well hidden boxes while not dying - Just isnt fun at all.

I had a miserable time beating this game because i dreaded every single level where Crash never got to breath or slide or anything. Every map is clustered with endless hindrances every step and thats just not Crash and never has been. The masks were remaked from Wrath but i consider that game vastly superior. Its the true 4.
I've never been this critical of a Crash game and i played Titans which were terrible but i new that at time and i wasnt hyped for those releases.

You have to be impossibly precise to not die.
The second pain point is level length and box placement. The game is not designed with smart, fun puzzles like the trilogy. It uses cheap camera tricks in levels with 300-500 **** boxes. It's frustrating as hell. And platinum? I'd say impossible. This game does not reward you for the time invested. And that's coming from someone who platinumed Demon's Souls.

However, I can state that while I thoroughly enjoyed the first half of the game, I did not find myself enjoying the second half as much. The reason? The difficulty. This coupled with the very long levels really tried my patience in the latter stages of the game. I was stunned at how difficult it was to simply finish a level. The thought of trying to get 100% in this game fills me with dread!

Overall, I think this game will satisfy fans of Crash Bandicoot who were hoping they would finally get a sequel that is on par with the original trilogy.

I do think that this is a very good game and a lot of hard work went into it but after I complete this game, I'm not sure I'll ever play it again. At least not a new playthrough. I love much of the level design and the abilities that the masks provide, and the game is just so colorful and nicely detailed. However, while I expect for a Crash game to be challenging, the level of frustration I'm feeling here makes me not want to play for any more than one level at a time. I don't want it to be too easy of a game but at the same time, I either find myself taking breaks or playing other games almost immediately. The new modern mode is appreciated for the simple fact that it allows for you to have unlimited lives but that still doesn't make the game any less annoying for me. But retro mode is there too. I barely get boxes as it is now because by the time I get to a certain point in the level, I've died so many times to where I don't care about getting the Collectibles. I just want to finish. I rate the game an 8 because the fact that it frustrates me doesn't make it a bad game. The quality is there and it lives up to what these games are known for if you ask me. But be warned. It'll stress you out. I'm embarrassed to say that a game can get me that worked up but this one definitely has. Expand

Its awesome that we finally get a proper crash sequel. This game was really fun but i have to lower it by 2 points because it’s downright frustrating at times , i died up to 200 times in some levels it was that hard. Takes alot of patience to play this game
And collecting everything is way too hard it’s ridiculous. But as a massive crash fun since childhood this game was really good.

Also, the graphics are significantly different from the previous games - now the graphics are more comics, which I didn't particularly like.

I would give it 9/10, but I deducted two points for the difficulty level and graphics change.

    THE STORY AND PREVIOUS GAMES:
Crash Bandicoot 4: It’s About Time is direct sequel to the previous trilogy and a new release to the series in over 10-whole-years! Previous original release (not counting remakes) was Crash Bandicoot 3: Warped, which It’s About Time continues directly from. I know, all the names and releases might get little bit confusing, because the series started all the way from 1996 on PS1 through PS4, and some releases in U.S. and EU got different names on them — AND! — there’s also other Crash -games that are out of the main series. Sigh. But, that doesn’t mean, you can’t play this newest game! Not at all!

Crash Bandicoot games used to have rather simple storylines and they can be read online quickly, if you wanna catch up. If you really wanna jump-in, then you should play Crash Bandicoot N. Sane Trilogy, the remade first three games. One huge difference It’s About Time has to the previous titles; the story got much more content this time around. I mean, there’s even some plot twists and all!! The amount of cutscenes also seems more than tripled with new characters included.

I love the whole plot and storytelling, specially those overlapping plots (i.e. what happens elsewhere at the same time and how it affects your current gameplay). The gameplay and story got more longetivity by throwing twists and turns in it, which did felt as they belong than forcefully trying to make the game longer.

    GAMEPLAY, CONTROLS, GRAPHICS AND SOUND:
Comparing to the previous release (N. Sane Trilogy), It’s About Time is pretty much the same with the gameplay. I did feel this being more easy title, than the N. Sane Trilogy, becauase I couldn’t completely finish that title, but this one was much more ease to play through. The game also does include lots of new stuff like those masks that grants superpowers, N. Verted mode (that changes the levels to create more challenge), new character Tawna, Timelines (playing levels with other character’s perspective), Flashback tapes (to play levels that tell stories Crash and Coco’s past) and many other new and old things were added to keep the gameplay interesting. I must say, I was first time ever interested to collect everything and try to beat the game 100%! Everything felt balanced and the levels got harder peacefully.

Controls were almost the same, but of course including the new moves that comes with each mask and character. I have to mention something about the characters, though. All of them moves differently and it was painful trying to quickly be comfortable with them. It took time to memorize their moves and what they can do and what they cannot.

Graphically this is like playing an animation movie. Everything’s such lush, colourful and rich. Level design stays true to the Crash Bandicoot series and I don’t think it needed any major changes. The levels and areas varies greatly from theme to theme, sometimes I just stopped playing and gazed the scenery.

The sound desing was interesting, all sounded familiar, but new. All the new music and sound effects did remain the signature Crash Bandicoot style. In video games, the music or certain sound effects might get repeatedly annoying, but I didn’t feel any of that, because it varied greatly and didn’t felt copy-pasted.

COMPILING IT ALL TOGETHER: Crash Bandicoot 4 has lots of characters (new and old) and fresh exciting story. I did find the story and the countless cutscene animations overly intriguing for the first time. The cutscenes didn’t always feel ultra short, like they previously used to be, but were long enough to grant a little break and gaze the beautiful and sharp animation.

I think the new character Tawna should’ve had more exposure and levels to play, because her skill and moves were cool. For the first time I think there’s so much content in a Crash Bandicoot game, that I’m not gonna explain them all here, but let players discover them by themselves. I did play this long hours (almost 20h) and for a long period of time, because I did wanted to collect things and find secrets. Don’t be afraid to jump off the screen or try some odd stunt moves, to check does it hide a secret, because I did just that all the time, and was surprised to find hidden things.

Crash Bandicoot 4 has a long lifespan and great replayability value. Yes, I did lost my nerve sometimes, but it wasn’t like it made me rage quit and throw the controller out of the window, because the game is developed to help if you fail too many times. It’ll add checkpoint boxes or grants you Aku-Aku mask for make it little easier to reach the next checkpoint.

This is excellent sequel to the main series and I (who’ve been playing Crash games since 1998) truly recommend this to your platforming collection.

The12 years we have been waiting for a new crash, some would argue far longer than that. However what can't be argued is that is now back with a game that can stand proudly against the naughty dog games and the very best of the genre. The artstyle while not what I associate with crash is really beautiful and bring vibes of rayman legends which being compared to is never a bad thing. The soundtrack is decent, not as good as the originals or many other crash games however they prove enjoyable while playing but not much beyond that (I liked how Cortex's theme was incorporated in all his levels tho). As for the gameplay it is a good as ever. The double jump is added to crash's standard moveset from the start allowing the game to be designed around it. He handles like a dream in these brilliant levels that really test your skills. This is easily the hardest game in the series but it's always fair. The game takes the level philosophy of mario where each level introduces its own gimmick and it is iterated on throughout the stage. Whether it be a pirate ship, a jaunt over rooftops above a festival or the prehistoric era every level has it's own sense of style and at it's very best tropical freeze one of the best platformers of all time comes to mind. The 4 masks also add to the gameplay variety in stages as at certain intervals you can phase objects in or out or slow down time or flip gravity. These add depth and puzzle like elements that fit's incredibly well with standard crash fair. the vehicles are massively turned down in this game as there are only 4 of them and they only appear once or twice each and only as sections of a level not a full level . The devs were confident in there platforming design and that the masks would create enough variety to keep the game fresh and I'm glad to say they nailed it. Replacing full vehicle levels are new playable characters in Tawna,Cortex and dingodile, all of which have 5 or 6 levels each. They break up the gameplay nicely as they all play very differently from crash and the good news for people who want pure crash action is that only one level with each character is required to beat the game. One thing that I didn't like however is after playing one of these characters sections you have to playthrough part of a level you already played as crash with slightly different box placement, which I personally found like a waste of time even if they are fun to bounce around in. The bosses are all well designed and fun to fight to that beating them down is fun from beginning to end. The game is packed with extra content with each level having 12 gems relics and the ridiculous perfect relics. Needless to say if your a crash fan like me you will be kept busy for a long time. The remakes where the groundwork but with this game crash can scream he's back and he isn't going away again any time soon. Expand

The levels and game itself seem pretty fun but when you throw in completionist stuff like the box gems (which are now more annoying than ever because there are stupidly hidden boxes everywhere), collecting wumpa fruit gems, dying less than 3 times each level gem, the hidden gem on every level, having to get platinum relics on every level, doing all of that on the “inverted style” level for every level AND the worst thing I’ve ever heard in my entire life with the N Sanely Perfect relics where you have to beat every level without dying WHILE collecting every single box........ you have a game that I absolutely despise. And it’s crazy how simple it would’ve been to make me love it. Throw out the stupid inverted levels, make relic requirements to only need gold or even just regular relic, and get rid of the n sanely perfect relics and you have yourself an amazing game I would’ve recommended to anyone and everyone. Now, I've completed Crash 1-3 including all gems and plat relics, I don't consider myself a top Crash player so I feel like I'm pretty good, right? Well apparently not considering how annoying trying to collect everything in this game; so many boxes in every level that are hidden so well you need a guide to find them, enemies with bad hitboxes, long levels that take an eternity to finish which makes collecting to gems you can only get without dying more than 3 times harder to get, repeated levels and overall less creative level designs, the list goes on. What I'm getting at is that all these things add up and make it so you're replaying levels over and over again trying to 100% them until deaths start feeling more and more cheap, gems stop feeling like rewards and more like blood drying in your hair after hours of banging your head against a wall, and lastly, the game starts to feel boring. I hate that I even feel like this because even in crash 1 when I was going for platinum relics and having a hard time I still felt challenged and engaged; with this game I feel like it expects nearly impossible things of me at times and so I have to spend a bunch of time practicing a certain section or running through the level 5 times looking for 1 off screen crate. In this mode you play through the exact same levels you just played 6-8 times each again but the level has a twist to it but that twist does not warrant playing 6-8 times again to get the 6 gems AGAIN. The placement of the boxes in this game is almost just a betting game to know where they are. Most of the time it’s in spots that you would never even see even if you move the camera. Once again to do not hate this game I think this game is great but the amount of requirements it takes to fully complete this game is way too much Expand

I went through the Crash Trilo on platinum and didn't have nearly as many problems with it as with the game, even though I only played through ...
If ever a 5 part should come then for god's sake it shouldn't be like the 4 part.
Character or graphic design is also unfortunately not nice. Why didn't you take over the graphics engine from the Trilo 1: 1? Especially the jumping behavior and the physics are much more pleasant than in the 4 part.
The graphics are also worse than in the Trilo but you have 60 fps which is great.
That's what I missed with the Trilo.
Therefore, a request from a crash fan makes the next game less difficult! The graphic design is also better like the Trilo. Better to bring in the adult humor. See Little Tiger, what relates to his penis and much, much more!
The original Crash was also designed for older people and didn't have a toddler look. The funny and extreme dying animations are missing and have also made crash!
Just like his super hot girlfriend!

The look of the game was clearly designed for younger children. Then why do you make it so bloody hard? Do you want the children to be frustrated or even so angry that they break the controller?
As an adult I can hardly stand it. how are children supposed to survive this without freaking out? Or are today's children all such pro gamers and manage a game like this 100% without any major help or problems? Would be new to me.
Somehow a contradiction and I wonder if the developers even knew for whom they were really making the game.
Should it pick up the old fans? then i ask you why did you change the look and the type of crash so that it has little to do with the old games?
Should it appeal to new customers and children? then i ask the developers why is it so damn difficult and scare off new customers?

I'm a completionist and this game is too hard all the time. When i finished my initial playthrough and saw some of the levels i would have to get all boxes on i didn't want to. The vehicles handle horribly, especially the polar bear and part of it might be its' tiny hitbox to get all boxes.
I tried going through the game without walkthrough and everytime i see one or two boxes missing my initial excitements turns a little sourer. Was it really necessary to hide one or two boxes so well? It's not fun.
Overall, i would say that if you want to go through casually, it's an amazing experience. If you're a completionist then you better have a patience of a saint and be godlike at the game or you're going to suffer.

I love the original crash trilogy just as much as anybody, but even I can look back and admit, crash has never been anything better than just good.. and playing through crash 4 had me asking myself ould this be it.. could this be the great game we all knew crash could be…
I started out loving crash, the initial challenge, the beautifully crafted levels, the nostalga of going through each level trying to break all of the boxes, getting to play with my girlfriend, I loved it.. but the glaring problems crash 4 possesses, stop it from ultimately hitting that definitive, wow.. this is a great game…
For starters the structure here with the gems, you have a challenges of collect this many wumpa fruit, collect all the boxes, find the hidden gem, get through the level only dying this many times… all of this is great.. I love adding more challenge to levels, giving replayablity incentive.. but how these gems are handled is what tarnished this system.. they are for skins… but rather than getting as many gems as you can in a level to save them up for your favorite skins.. the game forces you to do every or near every challenge in a level to unlock its skin… and because of this I didn’t even bother… one of the main hooks of a crash bandicoot game for me, is its collectables aspect, breaking all of the boxes, searching for its hidden gem.. but if I miss one cheap box on a rail section im automatically disqualified from unlocking that levels skin unless I want to replay the whole level again.. a major respect of my time and effort.. there is literally no incentive to do anything but get to the finish line with a sytem like this… especially now that lives are no longer a thing… as crash 4 is more designed to be trial and error, bang your head against the wall difficulty that just stops being fun a little more than halfway through this 9 hour game… I don’t find annoying im going to try and kill you every step you take luck based obstacles to be fun, and this is all crash 4 ends up being by its end.. from a fun collectathon to straight up frustration and levels that eventually just become so dull and drag on forever… thanlfully Crash 4 is more good than bad.. it is full of so much content, new characters and bonus levels, again, so many skins to unlock if you care to take on its challenges… I just would’ve personally liked a more friendly approach to the gem system, turn it into currency rather than progress, so that someone like me and really anyone with not a whole lot of time on their hands can enjoy that aspect of at least trying to break all of the boxes and grab all of the fruit, because once you miss one box or you die right before a checkpoint after a long slog, you just don’t want to do it.. you don’t care about the boxes and exploring… this killed part of what makes crash bandicoot so special…
but this is a special game, in fact while it has no memorable moments or levels like the previous games do..i believe crash 4 is the best game in the series… so much great foundation with the multiple masks adding new elements such as gravity or appearing and disappearing platforms, new characters with their own play styles… just work on the pacing. Let me breathe a little in between the constant im gonna kill you obstacles..give me incentive to collect even with a time crunch life.. and maybe. Just maybe.. crash bandicoot 5 can be this first great game in the series…
I give Crash Bandicoot 4: Its about time

This game really captures the essence of Crash Bandicoot games and upgrades it with new game mechanics and new playable characters, a nice story and music, that is if you play the game normally.

If you try to get the Platinum Trophy by getting all of the achievements then the picture changes and not for the better. At least until patch 1.04, my now concluded Platinum journey was filled with bugs and glitches that range from: boxes not spawning, enemies not spawning, inputs not registering and the camera getting stuck. To be honest the only reason i actually got the Platinum was because of my stubborness, but it was an excruciating journey. Of the top of my head levels like Run It Bayou, Rock Blocked, Toxic Tunnels, Bears Repeating are just a few of the ones that actually broke me. For you need the platinum relics and the N.sane perfect relics (get all boxes without dying once) which are incredibly hard to get. So if you are asking an insurmountable task from your players, the least you can do is to make sure your game runs prestinely. Because dying in the final jump of a level that you have been griding for hours just because the double jump didnt register is maddening, and it happened more than a couple of times.

So next time i probably wont platinum the game and get less from the expirience, it really hurt what could have been a 9/10 game.

The classic 'Crash' gameplay is here in droves, but as you progress you will soon discover that the developers have taken this gameplay and turned it on its head, putting an interesting new spin on a familiar concept (I'll stop now). The level design is absolutely first class, as you negotiate vintage Bandicoot territory but also a vast array of immersive new worlds, all finely detailed to an extent not previously seen in the series. The characters are fleshed out in a way which really compliments the look and feel of the game, each one exceptionally animated and portrayed with a zaniness almost reminiscent of a Looney Tunes cartoon. There are more playable characters than ever before, yet pleasingly they aren't just shoehorned in and each one segues into the narrative of the story brilliantly. Finally, a special mention for the soundtrack; Walter Mair does a phenomenal job here, managing to create a soundscape which is ambient and colorful whilst remaining 100% typically 'Crash', incorporating melodies from levels and boss fights of old. All in all, this is an absolute gem of a game (heh!) which Toys For Bob (and Activision) should be very proud of. There are a few minor niggles (the shoddy Polar Bear controls and the occasional misfire with Crash's 'jump' action) but hopefully these can be fixed through patches. Expand

The first major complaint I have is the controls, they're not smooth at all, one slight move and it's a full commitment. If there's any game in this series I'd like every Crash game to aspire to, it'd be Crash Bandicoot 3 Warped (NOT the remake - the actual game on PS1.) Playing during those rail gliding parts in missions or Tawna levels can be fun at times but most of it (especially if you're trying to 100% the game) is ridiculously hard. There's a difference between difficult level design and trolling. My next major issue is the redesigns. I feel like instead of sticking to what could have been a direct continuation of the game from Warped, they've gone with this late 2000's punk/early 2010's 3D Nickelodeon animated design rather than a classic look. I appreciate the efforts in making characters like Tawna more active and relevant to the game/story (as shown by the trailers) but to make her design to be a more Mad Max style of a look doesn't feel like crash. It reminds me of how the audience looked at Crash Bandicoot characters after the Twinsanity/Tag Team Racing games. Overall to summarize, I'm going to simply say the gameplay could be a lot more fluid and have a more free like feeling as well as the redesigns not looking to well but it's nice to at least see an effort by Activision to reboot the series but at the same time continue on from Warped. Since the ps3 era, I've been hoping to see a new Crash game but was a little let down at this one. Fortunately seeing what Naughty Dog did to The Last of Us franchise, I'm glad it's no longer in their hands but I think Vicarious Visions should have been the one to create a new game/story instead of Toys for Bob Expand

Es un juego genial, gran contenido, sin duda el mejor, El motivo por el cual lo digos es porque simplemente tiene lo que una secuela d la trilogia original tiene

For someone who hasn't been into the series that much. This was a really fun yet challenging experience. It adds a huge amount of challenges and collectibles to unlock, adding lots of replayability. Fans for the most part, should be satisfied.

Toys for Bob's game is a welcome addition to the original trilogy, although you will hardly remember its levels or music. Crash Bandicoot 4 is two steps below the amazing Super Mario Odyssey and Yoshi’s Crafted World.

I honestly did not expect such a stellar game. Crash Bandicoot 4 is breathtakingly beautiful, features an amazing soundtrack full of references to the original trilogy, offers tons of content, and thrilled me to bits with its brilliant level design. What’s more, it stayed true to its gameplay roots, while introducing loads of great new mechanics. For me it’s the game of the year. I salute you, Toys For Bob! [12/2020, p.58]

Crash Bandicoot 4 is a worthy addition to the Crash legacy. It captures the spirit, fun, and challenge of the original games, and adds a lot more that genuinely makes the experience even better rather than simply padding out the gameplay. The game is certainly challenging and the levels could probably use a few more checkpoints, but the number in the game is truer to the spirit of the originals than modern gaming standards. A little perseverance will get you through the game, but it’s going to take a little work if you want to be a Crash completionist. Overall it’s a great platform game that perfectly blends the old and the new into a fun new experience.
