    Una experiencia llena de color.

    Como sabemos Costa Rica está comenzando a hacerse popular entre el mundo de los videojuegos, si recordamos el gran éxito que obtuvo Fenix Rage de la compañía Green Lava Studios, pues Fair Play Labs no se queda atrás regresando con Color Guardians, un juego plataformero de acción disponible para PC, PlayStation 4 y PlayStation Vita.     La primera vez que arranqué con Color Guardians, me llamó muchísimo la atención desde la música, los personajes y tanto color que parecía el juego perfecto para un niño pequeño o incluso el juego perfecto para alguien que tuvo un mal día. Después de jugarlo por un rato me di cuenta que estaba equivocada ya que debajo de toda su lindura se esconde un juego brutalmente difícil y desafiante.

    Acá veremos siete etapas diferentes y cada etapa tiene 11 niveles. En su modo de juego nos desplazaremos lateralmente. Nuestros protagonistas serán Rod, Lia y Grock, cada uno de los cuales sólo son estéticamente diferentes donde deberás correr a través de sus mundos para restaurar el color robado recogiendo pequeños orbes de colores a medida que avanzas. Para ser más específica te encontrarás con tres carriles donde deberás presionar las flechas arriba y abajo para cambiar entre ellos mientras evitas obstáculos y recoges los orbes. Para poder tomar los orbes deberás cambiar el color de tu personaje y así igualar el color de las esferas (rojo, azul y amarillo) de lo contrario no se pueden recoger. Debo mencionar que el juego se basa por puntuación y entre más orbes obtengas mejor será tu puntuación.

    Hasta acá suena simple como sus primeros niveles pero conforme avanzas el reto comienza a ponerse un tanto intenso, mientras que yo era capaz de conseguir fácilmente puntajes altos y recoger todas las esferas en los primeros niveles me di cuenta que lo que hace esto aún más difícil es que debes obtener todas las esferas haciendo que coincida el color de tu personaje pero si a ello le sumamos que el número de los obstáculos se agranda más la rapidez, bueno deberás de llenarte de paciencia. Por suerte, si el jugador muere tenemos una serie de puntos de control establecidos en cada nivel, colocados estratégicamente antes o después de las zonas difíciles, pero va a disminuir ligeramente la puntuación general del jugador. Pero no es de preocuparse ya que para los jugadores experimentados esto no es un problema, pero para los jugadores casuales o para los niños dudo que les siga agradando.

    Sin embargo, las batallas con el jefe son realmente divertidas, te ponen en gran desafío, en comparación con los niveles normales que estos son en realidad un poco fácil y aunque es casi imposible obtener todos los orbes y estrellas tal vez te pueda proporciona un buen incentivo para volver a iniciar todos los niveles tratando de obtener lo que te hizo falta.

    De no ser por su diseño, sus diferentes sistemas de puntuación, gráficos brillantes y su gran paleta de colores, los niveles verdaderamente difíciles, me dio motivo para encontrarme jugando y seguir dando un esfuerzo para conseguir las tres estrellas o conseguir una alta puntuación. Mientras que el desplazamiento lateral podría utilizar más tutoriales y más historia que ofrezca lo desafiante y lo divertido del juego.    … Expand

    Much better than expected!

    When I get the PS Plus free games every month, some of them I complete, and others I do one or two plays, and delete if I don't enjoy them. I was sure Color Guardians would belong to the latter, but I was amazed by how addictive it was to play, and I simply couldn't stop myself from wanting to complete the whole game! Positive: Addictive gameplay Easy to    Much better than expected!

    I got Color Guardians yesterday and am so hooked. My daughter is also addicted. This game is harder than I had expected and left us laughing at how much I was struggling to master the color changes to score while navigating the lane changes with jumps and spins.

    Totally worth it and, in our case, really fun for the whole family... which is not really common. This is a great game and I    I got Color Guardians yesterday and am so hooked.     So this game has that Nintendo Hard quality I enjoy, its cutesy graphics that make me happy balanced with difficulty which makes me mad, in a good way. Kinda like how Super Meat Boy manages to keep me into the game with fast respawns and no number of lives, so i can kinda enjoy the game without stressing out over deaths. Also perfectionists aware, you will get addicted to this :P

    Color Guardians is Sonic the hedgehog on crack.
    Much like sonic or guitar hero, color guardians is all about reaction, switching lanes and colors to match obstacles and orbs,
    The problem with color guardians though is that it’s too fast.
    I appreciate what the developers tried to do with this game, but it’s practically impossible to react to.
    Im not sure if this was done on purpose to prolong game play, but Color Guardians almost counts on you to mess up turning this from what initially is a game about reaction and timing to a game all about muscle memory.
    Not only that, but occasionally the game will change up the rules mid play through, now to switch lanes you have to change color rather than go up and down like you have been through the entirety of the game, press buttons repeatedly to get pass this part but guess what as soon as you get through it, were going to throw another section at you that if youre still doing that will fling you to your death.
    You have to get from checkpoint to checkpoint with complete perfection, and the only way to do this is to remember where you messed up.
    I found that this is how I ultimately made it through the 2nd half of the game,
    Repetition rather than reaction which ultimately lessens the enjoyment.
    All of this could’ve been avoided with obstacles being more spaced out, or a life system.
    The levels are greatly designed and add much variety.
    For doing the same thing over and over, it never feels like such.
    Every level may look similar, but they all play differently.
    After you’ve completed the 10 levels in the world you have to face the worlds boss to unlock the next world, the boss is pretty much the same every time but throwing in new obstacles in the first half.
    Once the boss is defeated tokis are released and hidden in all 10 levels
    After you go back and find all 10 in each world, they unlock 3 bonus levels per map.
    You can also of course go back to chase high scores, and obtain stars and diamond stars on each level to unlock bonus content such as concept art
    There is so much challenge and fun to be had with Color Guardians
    It’s just a shame that success in this game is more based on memory than reaction.

    Color Guardians is another entry into the endless runner genre that has become so popular, particularly on mobile phones. The game requires the player to use the symbol buttons on the PS4 controller to constantly switch colour, in order to collect the coloured orbs and avoid obstacles, as well as move between three lanes as your character runs from left to right

    After a straight forward tutorial and opening couple of levels Color Guardians quickly becomes quite challenging and whether or not you enjoy this game will almost entirely depend on whether you find this challenge enjoyable or just frustrating. Trying to remember which button changes to which colour as well as remembering to switch lane as required is by no means an easy task and when you add in the additional factors, such as having to let go of a flower that allows you to hover for a short period, it can all become a bit too much at times. The frustration is only amplified further when you die as a result of not quite being sure which lane you are in, something which can easily happen due to the isometric viewpoint that means your character will often run behind objects and out of view for a split second.

    Personally I have found the game relatively fun in shorts bursts, as that limits the frustration, but the core gameplay is not as entertaining as the best in the genre (such as Bit Trip Runner 2 or the music levels for Rayman Legends) and as a result Color Guardians is only really worth playing if you’ve picked it up free with PS+ as I have.    … Expand

    Color Guardians is auto runner that requires the player to not only navigate to the correct lane but have the character be in the proper color. To collect the maximum points, the correct button is pressed immediately before collecting an orb. The game is relatively easy to progress but quite challenging to master a high score.     The aesthetics are very beautiful and polished but probably won’t attract a lot gamers that are turned off by “kiddie” looks. There is a ephemeral story with a few cut scenes but nothing worth completing a stage to view. The game has 50+ levels to unlock but the variety of the levels isn’t anything that ever drastically changes gameplay. At a certain point of difficulty you will just need to memorize stages and practice to progress successfully.

    The game seems out of place on PS4. The visuals are on par for a PS4 game but the gameplay is of something people play on their phones. The game is great for little bits of play but isn’t a game that I see most people wanting to sit down and play for hours. There is a planned Vita version we did not receive for review that may be more fitting for this game.

    Last week’s Cosmophony, a similar game, despite not being as pretty and having this much content was more of an engaging experience because of the interesting art and music. Color Guardians can be fun and is kid friendly but I think most console players will want a different experience than what this game has to offer.    … Expand

While it sounds easy, it can get intense sometimes as you have to change your guardian to be the appropriate color to follow pathways, jump on certain platforms, and collect orbs of each color.

    While the game itself is very easy, I should clarify the intense part is if you're trying to collect all of the orbs and get a three star rating for each level (and a high score if you're an old Atari fan and that matters to you). Keep in mind that I have only played and finished the demo, and have not done any boss levels of any kind. What I love about this game is my 4 year old son can play it, and he's actually quite good at it. It's helping to build his hand/eye coordination, and he's figured out as he goes what he needs to push when and where. It's something we can do together.

    The price for the full game is reasonable, and my son enjoys it so much I've considered buying it. If you're looking for a cutesy type game to play with your kids that's easy for everyone, or you want a game that doesn't require a ton of skill, this is the game. It will definitely keep you entertained for hours. However, be prepared for some control slamming/throwing if you're that kind. Luckily, I haven't had any of that yet!

    At least check out the demo. It's free. You won't be disappointed. If you are, then blame me. It's fine. I won't hold a grudge.    … Expand

    This game is defintiely a fun, challenging but rewarding, cross-genre melding of ideas seldom seen on console.     This game is defintiely a fun, challenging but rewarding, cross-genre melding of ideas seldom seen on console. Set in a vibrant world of color and sound I've run through a good variety of stages (both in terms of visuals and challenges) that almost constantly surprised me with the new twists to using in game mechanics to complete levels. Yes, the early levels are easy, they have to be, but I didn't struggle with the later introduction of new ideas as some reviewers have. They've complained that they needed more gentle introduction to new ideas...really not necessary IMO, but then I encountered death infrequently until after world 3, so perhaps I just took to it all more naturally!

    The characters are deceptively cute, the audio fun and bubbly, and the visuals as crisp and colorful as they need to be for a storyline revolving around the theft of color from the world. The recoloring of the world as you progress through levels is a really nice touch, tho sometimes there's so much detail going on in the background its hard to keep focused on the demanding obstacle course ahead!

    To comment on a few issues noted by other reviewers:
    1) yes the end boss is hard. Very hard. But its the end boss...tbh, I dont think many players will get that far...
    2) Some levels are a bit repetitive in the early stages, but some really throw a curveball at you, almost maze like!
    3) Spamming color change button. It works for first 2 worlds, but then after that, theres no time for it, getting perfect scores becomes very very hard! (Id given up on it due to fatigue anyway!)

    The bonus levels are a nice addition as well, and very challenging. Would perhaps have liked some new music tracks there, but there is good variety in the music from the main game of 50 levels, and when you do go back to the challenging bonus levels, you hardly notice the re-use of music.

    I would have liked the 3 main characters to have skills that set them apart from each other...though I dont know how the developer would have incorporated that into meaningful level design. As it is, switching between them (when you can) seems a purely visual thing, which I suppose is nice for those who want to play as the alternative girl or grunty male character...

    Its a good clean fun game, and cross-save to Vita and all the unlocks are a nice bonus. Shame I dont have a Vita to play it while commuting....

    If metacritic allowed, Id give it something like an 8.5.    … Expand

    The game looks kiddish, and has really basic story, but don't get fooled by the looks of it, because the gameplay itself can be really punishing. The game lets you rotate between a few colors and you have to have the right color to be able to get points. It sounds all simple, but when it comes to it, it can be really frustrating.

    Color Guardians can be enjoyed by both children and adults. It is obviously not a top game, but it is a very decent and entertaining experience, which perfectly fulfill its purpose (including the storyline, very simple but effective enough).

    Although the story mode is not particularly long, it has a significant amount of extras that will allow you to keep playing in case you want.     It is probably not a game for which I would pay much (I got it for free from PS Plus), but it is a good choice if you want something quick and enjoyable.    … Expand

    Platform carino ed adatto a tutte le età.
    Difficoltà non adatta a tutti ai livelli più alti.
    I vari modi di finire i livelli lo rendono un gioco appetibile a tutti.
    Storia quasi inesistente ma personaggi tutto sommato convincenti.
    Non male nel complesso. 73/100

    Idea is good, but implementation is really really bad, especially in the heat of the run..!
    The leveldesign is so bad, that one can't tell the difference between the tracks,
    - One can simply not read which track is what.
