May 16, 2019With 8 classic games from an iconic series, Castlevania Anniversary Collection is a must-play compilation for any gamer whether you're a retro junkie or you simply want to explore the roots of gaming. If you'll excuse me, I have to slay Dracula for the umpteenth time.

May 28, 2019For the real gamers out there, the ones who want to consider the whole history of the medium, this collection is a wonderful gift. To people looking for classic design, for inspiration, for history, there’s a lot to like here. I’m told that it’s a horrible night to have a curse, but any night spent playing this collection feels great.

Playstation Official Magazine UKJun 27, 2019The trilogy ends with Dracula’s Curse, which adds four playable characters and multiple routes, taking us even closer to the metroidvania approach we love. Arguably the best game in this collection, it demonstrates why director Hitoshi Akamatsu is one of the unsung heroes of the 8-bite, erm, -bit era. [Issue#164, p.96]

Jun 6, 2019Konami rightfully get criticism for not treating their old series' with respect. Castlevania Anniversary Collection does manage to rectify that. Eight fantastic classics are under one roof and, whilst the bonus content doesn't go far enough, there's some care to this that I wasn't expecting. M2's efforts have been astounding and fans should go home happy with this accurately recreated effort.

May 28, 2019Overall, Konami Castlevania Anniversary Collection is a solid release, even without the best of the bunch, Castlevania: Symphony of the Night. Getting authentic ports of the classic series, while adding some small save features, and graphical options help to sell the package. The bonus book might be the best part of it, though, so that’s something to look forward to if you’re going to purchase it.

May 24, 2019When it comes to compilations like this, there’s three criteria to meet. One, the games have to stand the test of time. Two, they have to be emulated well. And three, substantial historical features and content must be added. In all three categories, the team at M2 knocked it out of the park. While there are a couple of clunkers here, that doesn’t diminish the fact that there are four outright classics available in this package. Anyone interested in spectacular 2D action titles or in learning about Castlevania‘s history would do well to bite on this collection.

May 20, 2019The eight retro games in the Castlevania Anniversary Collection focus on the early traditional platforming era from 1987 to 1994, and quality is assured in the four main numerical entries in the series. The way these games are balanced alongside the previously untranslated NES Kid Dracula, and the superb but overlooked Castlevania: Bloodlines on the Mega Drive provides value, despite limited extras beyond a bonus book and a replay recording function. There's also novelty from playing two Game Boy games on a modern PS4, but their inclusion highlights omissions of remakes like M2's Castlevania: The Adventure ReBirth.
-
May 20, 2019Near perfect ports of classic Dracula-slaying action with some barebones features make this collection a must-buy.
-
May 17, 2019Castlevania Anniversary Collection is a rock solid collection of (some) great old school games. Anyway, the lack of real extra features, apart from the ebook, the absence of a masterpiece as Rondo of Blood and some odd choices by Konami make the collection feel a little bit pedantic.
-
Jun 4, 2019The quality of games included speak for themselves and this really is a must own for any Castlevania fan or fan of retro action and platforming games. Now as for the actual collection as a whole, it seems that more care could have gone into it to make it more enticing since the youngest game in the collection is 25 years old. Some of the button mapping choices seem strange and control input customization should be an easy thing to include. The Bonus Book has some interesting stuff included, but some more extras would have been nice to help justify the purchase if you already have access to these games.
-
May 28, 2019A bunch of old-school vampire-hunter adventures that made history, but Konami could have done more to satisfy our blood thirst.
-
May 22, 2019Castlevania Anniversary Collection includes the first, classic episodes of the series for both nostalgics and retrogaming enthisiasts, packed with a pretty complete e-book containing lots of informations and images.
-
May 22, 2019Another Anniversary Collection which, like the Arcade one released a short time ago, leaves a bitter taste for the choices made by Konami in both quantitative and qualitative terms.
-
Jun 4, 2019Technically not without fault and in terms of game selection questionable. But nonetheless this is a solid collection.
-
May 26, 2019It’s not greed in this day and age to expect publishers to respect and preserve their history. At this point, it’s an artistic responsibility.
-
May 18, 2019The Castlevania Anniversary Collection has great historical value, and it would be a mortal sin to ignore it. Unfortunately Konami pursues the philosophy of "maximum results with minimum effort", setting up a collection that is so rich but also not very refined.
