More casual audiences may find less appeal, with little in the way of different game modes or novelty features—these are, after all, emulated ports of decades-old arcade games. But for the historically-curious who want a dive into a slice of Capcom’s more esoteric history, or competitive fighters wanting a more convenient way of playing some games that still hold up, Capcom Fighting Collection hits the mark. And even if nothing else, the first-ever home release of Red Earth makes it worth the price of admission.

Capcom Fighting Collection sets the new standard all compilation games should be held to. There are a ton of games, though some may complain too many of them are Darkstalkers, accompanied by a suit of wonderful art and music. To top it all off is the fantastic online play and great visual and auditory presentation wrapping it up.

Taking a look at Capcom Fighting Collection, it’s very clear that it does exactly what it set out to do – you’ve got superb versions of ten arcade classics here, several of which are significantly difficult to play elsewhere. The online play works beautifully, with efficient menus letting you switch games in the lobby. And that online is really all that matters in the end. Can you play Hyper Street Fighter II online with no lag? Yes. Then it’s more or less perfect, isn’t it?

Capcom Fighting Collection is a must-own for Darkstalkers fans, but even those who aren’t in love with the series should consider it. There’s enough variety in titles, interesting games which could use more exposure, and beloved classics which hold up, to keep players busy for a long time. Add in excellent supplemental materials and killer online play and it stands among the best fighting game collections ever released.

For many, surely, it is time to relive combats that marked life. For others, of course, it will be time for new fights to experience. Which side are you on?

The nostalgia operation is definitely successful with this Capcom Fighting Collection. Thanks to a granite netcode rollback, a very functional practical mode, a range of titles between more and less known and a stable frame rate, we are in front of an excellent product.

The Capcom Fighting Collection brings some unique titles that most U.S. gamers haven’t laid eyes on before. While not all the games in the collection are worthy to be in it, the Darkstalkers-centric theme makes it worth a look.

With so many different types of fighters, hardcore fans will have a ball digging into the depths of each game’s mechanics and challenging each other offline or online with rollback netcode. [Issue#17, p.74]

If you are the type of person who enjoys fighting genre and old games with pixel-art graphics, than Capcom Fighting Collection is something you definitely don't want to miss.

There are definitely some quality of life improvements to these games. The never-before-released games are super cool. This collection is a little pricey, but with the music, museum, rollback netcode, and internet features, I totally understand why. If you've been playing these games forever like I have, then you may pass this up. But if you want to see where it all started, plus see what other fighting games Capcom dipped their toes into, the collection is for you. Good luck climbing the ranks though- the old school gamers and the FGC are waiting for you at the top.

Shifting the spotlight to some more obscure releases was a wise choice, as the set of games included in Capcom Fighting Collection features some of the publisher's weirdest, but enjoyable, fighters.

Capcom Fighting Collection is a valuable way to preserve arcade titles from the 90's. The title curation seems a bit like a Darkstalkers showcase, but we also found some gems worth reviving like Red Earth and Pocket Fighter. The customization options are simple and very useful, and the online game is functional for playing with faraway friends.

Whether you’re a fighting game fan who remembers some of these classics from yesteryear, or someone new to the genre who’s open to digging into some past treasures, Capcom Fighting Collection is well worth picking up. Sure, it’s fairly Darkstalkers-heavy, and the lack of cross-platform play is unfortunate, but the hours of fun that can be had from this collection far outweigh such disappointments. Capcom has once again plundered its extensive back catalogue and come up with the goods.

Capcom Fighting Collection delivers a great experience and preserves forgotten games with some reservations and offers an online platform that works well so that each community can enjoy their favorite fighting game without resorting to emulation. It is a compilation designed for the niche gamers who already know the games and do not need an introduction.

Capcom Fighting Collection is the best way to play many of these classic arcade titles as there have been enough adjustments to each title and adjustments to the ease of playing each one that it marks this collection as the best one of these re-release packages yet. It's a great step in the right direction for the future of collections of this ilk, and a great first collection for fans who might have never checked out one of these before. There are some repeats, but the new additions make up for it.

Capcom Fighting Collection plugs the gaps left in everyone’s fighting game collection, sans Rival Schools of course. With lots of customisation available for how you play, ten excellent ports and a loaded museum, you’d be remiss to miss out on this excellent piece of history.

The Capcom Fighting Collection is a fun and competitive package that offers some curiosities abroad the genre, although it is far from being the definitive collection. However, this many Darkstalkers games probably left out some other classics.

If you’re a Darkstalkers fan, you are definitely eating well if you purchase this compilation, hell as a puzzle fighter enthusiast I am ecstatic that I will be able to play the title on modern consoles and possibly on the go (via the Switch or the Steam Deck). It is also nice to have a legal way to own Cyberbots and marvel at the eccentricity that is Red Earth. While I have issues with the title curation, this is nonetheless a solid lineup. One can only hope that the licensing gods will grant us a Capcom Licensed Fighting Game Collection which will include their Marvel catalog, their JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure Part 3: Stardust Crusaders fighting game, Tatsunoko vs Capcom and dare I say…Rival Schools. Their resume is deep enough to have a couple more of these, but what we have here is a good start.

Capcom Fighting Collection features a solid collection of games; particularly, when it comes to Darkstalkers. That's actually its main issue because it could use a lot more variety but considering the package is as fun and sleek as it is, I still recommend giving it a go.

The Capcom Fighting Collection is a reminder of a time when Capcom was the king of making fighting games. It’s great to finally have the opportunity to enjoy the entire Darkstalkers franchise. It would be a damn shame if Capcom didn’t follow this release up with a brand new Darkstalkers installment. While I would have preferred updated visuals, the gameplay for the most part still holds up today. I hope Capcom adds the ability to quick save in each game individually, as opposed to a shared quick save among all 10 games. While this collection only features a small fraction of the fighting games Capcom has released, it’s still a worthy release and I imagine most fighting fans will want to add it to their collection.

If you're a fan of old-school fighting games, Capcom Fighting Collection will keep you entertained for a long time. The developers did a great job of bringing ten of Capcom's classics to the PS4 and PS5, with beautiful visuals and fun gameplay. Unfortunately, though, it probably won't be very enticing for new players.

Capcom Fighting Collection is a good collection of fighting games, offering a little bit of everything. It's pretty basic, offering what you'd expect and nothing more. It is more aimed at fans of Darkstalkers or those who want to know games like Red Earth. The simultaneous matchmaking for more than one online game deserves praise, however. The launch price, on the other hand, can be an issue.

Capcom Fighting Collection is a no-frills compilation of the pugilistic publisher’s secondary catalog, offering well-aged revisits to Darkstalkers, the gem fighter spin-offs, and some ambitious and intriguing experiments. Outside of its important job as an archival piece, it’s a somewhat barebones collection, hurt by lack of crossplay, and questionable existence given Capcom’s established range of compilations. Regardless, it remains a must-buy for all long-suffering Night Warriors.

The Capcom Fighting Collection includes no less than 10 titles from the Osaka-based company's catalog. And among them, 5 are from the Darkstalkers saga. It's a good compilation of retro games.

Capcom Fighting Collection does a good job of revisiting the past, but it doesn't quite go far enough. Hyper Street Fighter II is a stalwart, Super Puzzle Fighter II Turbo and Super Gem Fighter Mini Mix are goofy and fun, and Cyberbots and Red Earth are unique and good examples of what a collection should include. The overabundance of Darkstalkers games--as good as they are--does not help the overall package, as there are still some forgotten Capcom fighting games that could have used the exposure instead. Reliving these games is a lot of fun but, like most reunions, there's that one member of the family that's demanding a bit too much attention.

Capcom Fighting Collection is essential for fans of ’90s tournament fighters, particularly of Darkstalkers. That being said, the curated ten games feels like light packaging. The complete Darkstalkers arcade collection is great to finally have, but the lack of variety among them makes the value of the ten game collection feel inflated as they dominate the collection.

Overall, Capcom Fighting Collection is a decent compilation. With its various bonuses, options and new modes, it appears to be an ideal companion for lovers of 2D fighting games. On the other hand, some choices (Cyberbots, Red Earth) can challenge and the Darkstalkers saga represents half of the titles available! A daring bet that will not please everyone, but we must recognize that the Street Fighter trilogy, with the anniversary edition, the Super Gem Fighter and the Puzzle Fighter II Turbo, is worth the detour. Depending on how attached you are to the ten games in this compilation, this one will have a more or less pronounced interest.

That spark Capcom lit throughout the ’90s is one that changed the fighting game genre forever. And it’s one that’s been dim for quite some time. I’ve never forgotten the creativity it once sprinkled into each release, and I’ve been waiting for that version of the company to return. Time will tell whether Street Fighter 6 indeed brings Capcom back — but Capcom Fighting Collection has me more excited than ever. [Polygon Recommends]

A collection of great classics including some that have never released outside of Japan before. Loads of great extras to see. Some nice concessions to QOL like online play and saves.

    Bad-
No English translations for Japanese only games. Far too much of the collection is darkstalkers games. Nothing hear to endear you if you are already a fan.

    Thoughts-
But ultimately, that’s all splitting hairs a little. What we got here is pretty good — very accurate and faithful translations of these classic arcade experiences, with loads of extra swag for fans, and some concessions made to modernity. Those who already loved these games, or at least love Capcom’s fighting game heritage, are going to find enough here for this to be a worthwhile purchase. If you aren’t in those categories of being either a fan of these specific games, or Capcom’s history with the genre, or even just curious about the evolution of arcade fighters though, I can’t see there being much here that particularly endears itself to you. Capcom Fighting Collection is a fine way to commemorate an important anniversary, and to make some classics previously lost to time available to modern audiences — but ultimately, it is very much preaching to the choir. Not that there is anything wrong with that.

That includes losing and continuing 20 times with each character. Unfortunately, one of the characters doesn't properly update using the quick save/load feature so instead of sitting around and waiting to lose 80 matches I had to sit around and lose something like 130 matches. 130. Matches. Not sure what other game makes you lose that many on purpose. At this point I had to use more continues than win in any of the games up to this point. Full Review »
