May 22, 2021A great amount of love has been put into the creation of Capcom Arcade Stadium, and it shows. It has all the features you’d expect of a retro collection and then some, alongside a wonderfully curated selection of games. Even better, you’re not forced into buying all of the games available. Granted they’re pretty much split into three packs rather then being available separately, but at least it puts you somewhat in control of the games you have access to. And here’s hoping that it’s a selection that continues to grow, as there’s no better way to enjoy Capcom’s back catalogue of classic arcade games.

Jun 1, 2021Capcom Arcade Stadium is a solid mix of arcade classics and some lessor known titles. Unfortunately, there are a lot of Street Fighter games not included. Having one of the X-Men fighting games would have been awesome but the Marvel rights are probably too expensive to secure. Capcom certainly went beyond just straight porting of the games. The presentation of each game is solid with a ton of options. Another nice touch is that a manual for each game is included too. This will be a boon to newbies and veterans alike and will save players from making side trips to the internet looking for tips.

Jul 19, 2021This is a solid release of arcade games that have been given love and care. That is all one asks for when bringing old games to the new consoles – to be represented in the best possible way.
-
PLAYJul 5, 2021An interesting selection of games that can feel over-familiar are saved by an excellent emulation platform that manages to make these old hits playable again. [Issue#3, p.145]

Jun 30, 2021Capcom Arcade Stadium is complicated. On the one hand, most of the games are timeless classics and rarely seen in compilations, so it feels fresher than the entries on the older PlayStation consoles even before you factor in the emulation perks and the various challenge modes. On the other hand, the number of repeats from older PS4 compilations makes this feel a bit lazy, while the lack of customization stings when you see the overall purchasing method. It's still a good package for retro fans who want to play on their HDTVs, especially when compared to the PS3 release currently accessible on PS Now, but here's hoping that Capcom simply iterates on this rather than create another compilation specifically for the PS5.

Jun 3, 2021Capcom Arcade Stadium is a perfume soaked and kiss covered love letter to the arcade. Capcom really has set the benchmark for how iconic publishers should preserve their work for future generations. The pitch-perfect emulation is notable, but it’s the courage to make the necessary changes to classic games and ensure accessibility for all that is truly genius. Sure, having to buy everything in packs is a pain but you’re bound to uncover a few unexpected gems in the process. Now, how about that Rival Schools: United by Fate, eh Capcom?

Jun 2, 2021This is a must-play title for people who grew up going to the arcade or want to experience that special feeling of playing classic games on a cabinet. If you aren’t a big fan of fighting titles like Street Fighter or flying action games this may be a title you would want to skip out on.

May 31, 2021Almost three dozen games, a trip into a bygone era, and plenty of reasons to have a pocket full of coins jangling away as you peruse the offerings. Depending on your fondness for the past, Capcom Arcade Stadium has a divisive collection of charming cult classic titles and time-wasting distractions, but it's all presented in a package that lures you in with bright lights, loud sounds, and plenty of nostalgia.
-
May 28, 2021Capcom return, once again, to their vast library of arcade titles and there are plenty of coin-op classics here for retro gamers to choose from. Your enjoyment will be dependent on your own level of love and nostalgia for these titles and if you're not a shoot 'em up or fighting game fan then you aren't well served here. Thankfully though we'll be happily playing Giga Wing and Progear for a long, long time.

May 28, 2021Viewed as a traditional 32 game retro collection, there's value in journeying through PS4 Capcom Arcade Stadium's history from 1984 to 2001. It's a pleasure to revel in the origins of CP System, as it evolved from CPS-1 to CPS-2. There's a celebratory feel in the balance between Pack 1 and 2's popular hits, alongside Pack 3's cult favourites, plus targeting leaderboards to achieve Timed and Score Challenges is addictive when earning CASPO to reach a higher Class. As Zac Zinger's infectious song, A Brand New Day, plays over Capcom Arcade Stadium's title screen, there's a party vibe to dancing between game selections, especially when discovering Pack 3's superb, less widely available shmups like CAVE's Progear.

May 26, 2021The thing with Capcom Arcade Stadium is that this isn’t just a nostalgia exercise – many of these games hold up today. Designers including Tokuro Fujiwara and Akira Nishitani crafted beautiful 2D play spaces filled with energy, challenge and luscious choreography, and these elements are still inspiring today’s shooters, metroidvania adventures and roguelikes. Back in the day, when you put 10p in a Capcom machine, you knew that, even if you only survived for 27 seconds, you would see wonderful places, effects, enemies and surprises. That feeling is captured here once more, for all to experience.
-
May 21, 2021Ultimately, this is a fine lens with which to get stuck into the Capcom arcade classics of yesteryear and a muscular package that understands the old school score chasing that made those games so compelling in the first place. Until the PS6 comes around and we do all this again with a different set of features sprinkled on top, Capcom Arcade Stadium nonetheless stands tall as a delectable pick and mix buffet of Capcom's golden arcade era.
-
May 21, 2021Overall, the pros outweigh the cons of this collection by a wide margin. Players are fee to explore and re-learn all the features at their own speed and tailor each game in a way that encourages them to improve their skills. Whether an arcade veteran or exploring these classics for the first time, Capcom Arcade Stadium provides a nostalgic and enjoyable experience that will people coming back for more.

May 21, 2021Capcom Arcade Stadium features 32 games that remind you just how good some of the old classics are. There's something for everyone, and although they're all relatively old, some still hold up today.
-
May 21, 2021While it lacks online play and is missing a few major titles, Capcom Arcade Stadium's incredible emulation, wonderful UI, and plethora of accessibility and difficulty options make it an excellent way to play several of yesteryear's best games.
-
Jun 1, 2021The Capcom Arcade Stadium is a wonderful trip down memory lane that may not contain everything that you want or love, but has enough variety to justify the price and keep you entertained when you need a break from today’s big titles.
-
May 21, 2021Capcom Arcade Stadium for PS4 includes 32 classic games from the eighties and nineties, perfect emulation, different filters and options... but we still miss some great titles (mostly CPS 2 and CPS 3 arcades).
-
May 21, 2021Capcom Stadium Arcade is yet another retro gaming collection with its share of classics and rarities. If you loved the early Capcom shooters and bullet-hell titles then this is a collection for you. The iconic Capcom fighting titles feel a little light with only four fighting games, including three versions of Street Fighter II. Otherwise, this collection feels almost complete and would make a nice addition to any retro gaming fan’s library.

CD-ActionJul 23, 2021Capcom’s collection of 31 classic titles (dating back to 1984-2001) creates an enjoyable illusion of standing in front of a real arcade cabinet. There are a couple of problems though. The free version of Arcade Stadium offers just one game (1943: The Battle of Midway) and unlocking the rest means either paying for all of them at once or buying them in three smaller bundles. It means you can’t simply choose the games you want. What’s more, Capcom will charge you additionally for the god mode option (ridiculous!), and some of the titles are lagging. [08/2021, p.58]

May 21, 2021There’s no doubt that this is an incredibly fun way to play Capcom arcade classics - better than throwing all of your loose change at a game you’ll never actually finish, at least - but the selection available here hasn’t left me feeling inspired. The games in this collection feel like the last options, the games that could never be sold individually. Cult classics like Darkstalkers and every other version of Street Fighter are entirely missing - instead we have a bunch of Capcom arcade games that, for the most part, weren’t deserving of sequels, or any other recognition this far removed from their release. It sounds harsh, but these are the rejects, propped up by Street Fighter 2 and Ghosts ‘N Goblins. There’s fun to be had here, but without nostalgia you probably won’t find much to love.
