The game is good, but there are still many things to be improved. The map design is poor, there are few maps to play with. and it takes a long time to aim with the sniper. special ops is very hard

Sometimes mission a do feel a little shirt but that isn't such a big issue when the game is well made. Again it's a fictional story. The multiplayer is different. The guns feel good and amazing to play with. Custom classes can be made really well to fit your play style well. Time to kill is faster. Cross play is a thing and never before seen player numbers and map sizes in a call of duty game. However, footsteps are really loud in this game. No red dots appear on the minimap when someone shoots. Maps sizes are on the bigger end and people do tend to camp a lot in this game. Maps aren't the best too. Haven't really invested time in the special ops section. Expand

Cod was always one of the more casual shooters but now you gotta use meta weapons and corner slide/jump and prefire everything because you will otherwise get completely **** This also makes people reverse boost so they can pubstomp and thats not good for the lower ''ranks''. If they removed SBMM(I dont think they will) this would be one of the best recent cod games, heck it would be the best since bo2. The gunplay is fukcing great, the customization is endless but SBMM ruins it all.

I’ll break this down into 3 sections and will round it off with what I would recommend doing. Campaign - Very good immersive experience here and I love the direction they are taking, yes the Russia propaganda is a bit much in places but if you can look past that and remember that this isn’t a real depiction of historic events or otherwise then it’s fun, edgy and a good entry in the Call of Duty franchise. I highly recommend playing on Realism first time through if you can handle it, great experience! The downside however... it is FAR too short. At a run time of 6-8 hours (even on Realism) I think that’s a poor effort and one of the main reasons why this game isn’t a positive for me.
Multiplayer - Though playing through the campaign may lead you into a false sense of security that gameplay feels slower, multiplayer will draw that straight out of you again. This is simply for the reason that the time to kill here has been reduced and I believe it to be at its lowest ever point in the CoD history. It is more of a learning curve but it does feel one hell of a satisfying game with the updated gun mechanics etc. Great experience here and if you’re going to be spending most your time here, then you’ll be absolutely fine.
Spec Ops - This... is OK. It presents itself as extension of the campaign at first but you quickly learn that this isn’t the case and as such it almost feels lacklustre. As if it were a tacked on game mode to fill out the home screen. Gameplay however is pretty good and this can be good with friends, however short lived. Overall - A good entry in the CoD series if your fan. Personally though, the campaign is where I was hoping for this to being my love back for the franchise and though it hit some good high notes, it’s length and replay ability left me with a sour taste in the mouth. For this reason I would either wait for a reduced price or buy a physical copy and trade it in when you’re done. If you’re here just for the multiplayer though, you’ll have a great time as I have so far and it’s well worth the price for this.

The game is split up into three different modes: the Campaign, a reboot of the Modern Warfare series set in the fictional country of Urzikstan, where you play as different characters from different organizations all fighting for the same cause; Spec Ops, a PvE mode that continues the story where the Campaign leaves off; and the Multiplayer, where players can go head to head against each other. Though all the modes are very different from one another, they all share the same core gameplay mechanics.
The controls remain the same as other Call of Duty titles for the most part. Off the bat something that is very noticeable is the amount of recoil the guns give, as well as the muzzle flashes. It’s something that adds more realism to the game, and at first I wasn’t a huge fan of, but with time and the right attachments, it’s almost something that you could easily forget was there in the first place. Another addition to the game is the ability to mount near walls/aiming in cover. It’s quite useful, but doing it on the control certain doesn’t feel as good as it would on mouse and keyboard(console peasant problems). There are also come mountable walls or objects that complete obscure your view making it useless. You also have the ability to open and close doors now. The sliding mechanic feels like it could be worked on a little bit more, it just feels like it stops a little too fast and too soon, but this might just be a me problem after being spoiled from games like Titanfall 2 and Apex Legends. Aside from texture pop-ins and long loading times, the game runs nice and smooth.
The Campaign definitely feels more cinematic than the other Call of Duty games that I’ve played before, especially with its beautiful cutscene graphics and lighting. There are plenty of great examples of realistic looking character models and this game is certainly up there with the cutscenes, but once you get into the game, some characters really don’t transition well. With cutscenes that looked so great, it is very disappointing to say that the story itself was very bland. I played through the entire campaign not knowing who or why certain characters showed up. Much of the advertisement of this game shows off Captain Price, but this being a reboot of the classic Modern Warfare games, the new Price just ends up losing all of his charm and becoming forgettable.
Everyone knows that the Campaign isn’t the main event when it comes to a Call of Duty game. The multiplayer feels like nothing much has changed since the last Modern Warfare game, which is a good and bad thing. Of course, gameplay experiences in multiplayer games are varied between everyone. A new mode to multiplayer is Gungame, a 2v2 match up where every 2 rounds the weapons change, which is great for those who are looking to get a quick match or two in. Another addition is having night-vision modes to some maps, which although nice, does not look as good as the Campaign’s use of night-vision.
My initial thoughts of this game not having any gimmicks revealed itself after realizing that the return of the Modern Warfare subseries was a gimmick in its own right. The multiplayer unfortunately doesn’t have much to offer. At launch there are only Team Deathmatch, Free-for-all, Headquarters, Domination, Search and Destroy, and Cyber Attack(a mode similar to Search and Destroy, but with the ability to resurrect your fallen teammates). There are also not many maps at launch, many feeling old quickly with tight spaces that almost reward players who camp. It also feels easier to camp because of how loud footsteps are in this game.
The final mode in Modern Warfare is Spec Ops, which feels like an afterthought to the Campaign and Multiplayer modes. The first couple attempts to play were very buggy with the game either not starting at all or spawning me straight to my death. There weren’t many missions to play. The survival mode, being a PS4 exclusive for what will be the lifetime of this game, felt like a last minute mode added on so that there could be an exclusivity deal with Sony.
Call of Duty:Modern Warfare felt like a nice return to form, but maybe it went a little too far with how it wanted to feel like an older Call of Duty title. It feels as great as it did back in 2009, but at the same time it deals with many of the same problems, but in some cases even more issues. The gameplay is very enjoyable to play, but unfortunately none of the modes or maps are good enough to support it. The Campaign while visually spectacular, fell flat and lacked personality. Overall, I give Call of Duty:Modern Warfare a 7.7 out of 10. It’s a fun game to jump into for a few rounds, but not one that will leave a mark for years to come.

The multiplayer is insulting. Too slow and way too many windows which lead to campers, which just ruins the experience for me and many others. The maps are horrible and very few variety between them. Ground War is the best mode but sadly it only has two maps and is very barebones.

Special Ops is horrible and is way too difficult and tedious. What a way to ruin an absolute classic mode which now sadly is just their for nostalgia and buying purposes.

The story itself is fun and offers some amazing looking set pieces to play on. The graphics are some of the best I’ve seen in games on the generation of consoles as I’m playing on a regular base ps4. My issue with the story is the overall mission length for some. A main complain I’ve seen is that the campaign is too short. CoD games have never had a lengthy campaign yet this one feels shorter than the ones before. All of the missions sort of role together with not much downtime in between so the missions feel brief. I felt like some missions were so short it was the equivalent to a Costco sample. As for multiplayer I’m having fun on the new Shoot-house map which came after launch. The main issue I and many other are having are with the maps. I have to say I hate about 90% of the maps as they just don’t flow well and make me want to not play most maps except for Shoothouse. The 2v2 maps however are fantastic and I only dislike 1 of them. As for things like ground war I miss the rolling objectives that Call of Duty WW2 had to offer. Many people disliked this game but I think it got better over time and it sold more than Black Ops 4 if I’m correct so you be the judge on which was better. Ground war feels more like Battlefield with this vast maps and the return of vehicles to CoD. I wish the Battlefield aspect was left out because it feels out of place but may offer something you like if you’re a fan of battlefield and CoD. Maps seem to encourage camping along with you getting a claymore almost instantly through level progression. This allows you to camp and then protect a flank attack. All for the last lethal item to be a thermite grenade. The game has a convoluted UI system currently which I loathe. Hopefully they patch it out. In order to play on a game mode of you’re choice in a quick match, you have to select and deselect the game modes. So select the game modes you wish yo play deselect the ones you don’t. I typically love playing hardcore which you have to toggle an additional button to get to then deselect those game modes you don’t wish to play in order to get the one you want. My friend was the party leader and for the first few matches we played standard games not even knowing hardcore was in the game we thought it was left out. Again, hopefully they update the UI because its terrible.

I feel like this game is only rated so low by the users because multiplayer is where they will spend most of their time. Critics beat the game play the multiplayer and then on to the next form of media to review.

Multiplayer is good in it's core, but has some points (Skill Based Matchmaking, Way too short time to Kill, a lot of camping spots on maps, Bad visabillity...) that makes it unplayable at some times, because in a Match of 12 Players 10 are Camping.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I am reviewing this game as a whole. Story, Multiplayer, and Co-Op. Let’s start with the Multiplayer. The gun play is amazing! It feels like a back-to-form return to it’s predecessors. It just feels so good to run around with an SMG and mow down 3 people in an instant or snipe from a distance racking up 13 kills or the more basic option, running around with an Assault Rifle and killing the first person you meet. Even then, it’s SO SATISFYING. The shotguns have a weight that you feel when you use them (especially the 725). The add-on combinations are great and you could feel the difference they make. Some more then others, which sucks because some add-ons are essential or even unbalanced for certain weapons. Playing with friends is quick & easy and fun as ever. The maps are 50/50. Some maps you’ll have an amazing time on (*cough Shoot House *cough) and other, you’ll have a harder time on. This was never a problem for me because I have 5 different load-outs that I use and some certainly work better on specific maps rather than others, but people have taken notice to the jarring disparity in map quality. In short, the Multiplayer is as good as ever, once you get past some of the **** like OP weapons and toxic combinations. But that won’t take too long. I’m just gonna skim past this one because it’s pretty forgettable, the Co-Op is generic and boring without friends. Even then, it gets old quick. The “story aspect” they tried to implement is nonexistent. Mediocre at best, boring and forgettable at worst. Now the part you’ve been waiting for, the story. Is the controversy warranted? Well, I don’t have a definite answer, but it is pretty problematic at certain area’s. You start out trying to bomb a Russian base for having deadly gas used in war crimes, pretty generic. You get past that part and get to the next mission. A man named The Butcher bombs a city in England. You set out for revenge and team up with some revolutionaries. These people are revolting from the Russian government, and this is where it gets hairy. You see, in Modern Warfare, the President of Russia is General Barkov. He’s a brutal leader who gasses civilians and hates revolution. Sounds pretty cut & dry right? The thing is, every single Russian in the game is either dead or actively committing a war crime. Whereas the Americans are paragons of virtue. Now, people say this a Russophobic but I don’t know. It’s not actively telling people that Russians are evil or that the Russian government is authoritative. It’s just an evil bad guy getting taken down by a good guy. I don’t think any reasonable person will play the story and play through the story and believe that Russians are evil degenerates. I certainly didn’t. The problem I have is that the creators promised a “morally gray” storyline and all we got was good-guy-kill-bad-guy type of story that we’ve seen over and over again. I don’t think it’s racist in any way. I don’t think the creators meant for it to be racist. It’s just a good American soldier take down evil Russian soldier dynamic we’ve seen many times over. It’s dumb and antiquated but it’s definitely not an attempt to make Russians look like barbarians. In closing, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare has amazing Multiplayer but a dry Co-Op and a generic story. I recommend it solely for the Multiplayer. It’s just too good, it’s addictive! With friends, you won’t be able to put it down. Just do yourself a favor and skip the Co-Op. Play the story if you’d like but if you’re sensitive or easily offended, I recommend you don’t. That being said, the game is ok. Taking everything into account, I think this would be a great Multiplayer game to play either alone and grind out or to play with friends. Beyond that, it’s pretty dry. Buy it and give it a try, it’s not for everyone but if you just play COD for the Multiplayer or just like FPS in general, this is the game for you. Expand

The campaign falls flat, with a few highlights amongst a story that fails to build tension or convey the stakes of your actions. None of the antagonist characters are interesting or memorable. The graphics impress for sure: some beautiful worlds have been created here, yet each one feels too much like the last. Far fewer memorable moments compared to the original trilogy. I get a sense that this game's campaign tried to take itself a tad too seriously, and just needed to open up a bit. I'm not saying that every mission needs a crazy set piece, but set pieces exist for a reason: they deliver excitement. The multiplayer is held back by boring map design and what feels like a step backwards in the gunplay from prior games. The game tries too hard to detach itself from previous titles, and the fact that they're bringing back previous maps into the game shows that none of the current maps appear to be resonating with the player base. As for spec ops: well, it's a joke. It's a tagged on mode that isn't worth your time. Warzone is a good bit of fun, however as it is a standalone it will not influence the score of this review. Overall, Modern Warfare is definitely a disappointment, however the developers can use this to rebound and create a fantastic new Call of Duty for the next generation. Expand

For the campaign part of the game i must say that I really enjoyed my time playing not just because of the characters but it has the grittiness and the awful things of war but its just the same like every other call of duty campaign. For the multiplayer section, I kust say as a fan of the series since 2007 and a person who played almost every interaction of Call of Duty, this is probably the most boring and slowest experience ive ever played. The maps are too big and there is a unreasonably amount of Doors, Windows and just corners and placed that shouldn’t be there. They punish you for moving and they reward the players who camp in a building with a shotgun/LMG/AR. They did however bring back classic old maps but they ruin almost every single one of them with them adding buildings and doors that shouldn’t be there. On the contrary, the micro transactions have been handled almost beautifully and the fact that they are giving us free maps and guns at the same time on the all the platforms really makes this game nice. Another big core thing that the Developers messed with are the spawns. Out of all my time of playing this game and the past games, the spawns here are NOTHING like they were ever. For example if you have a teammate in the enemy spawn, you have a high chance of spawning on that teammate while you should have spawned back where the other 4 teammates are. On top of that, the spawn system causes you too lose and gain map control to which if you are a competitive player, you know how huge map control is and how important it can be to win games. Also the graphics of this game are the best in any Call Of Duty game. I also LOVED how they did the gunsmith in the game and it is beautiful with how creative you can make your gun. Also all of the camouflages in the game are nice but sadly the amount of stuff you have to do to earn every single camouflage is just time consuming and utterly annoying. For example some challenges like mounting kills are retarded and just awful. However if you do all the camouflage challenges for ALL base launch guns in the game, you will earn this rare camouflage and as much as i love the camouflage and all its not worth doing the WHOLE process. Also, they did add mastery challenges but sadly in my opinion they are not worth it and the obsidian camouflage that you get is also nothing special but its not that hard to get and isn’t that cool. Another thing i want to add is the time period that the game is based in. Now i’m not a military expert or have any experience but as far as I am concerned nothing of the equipment/guns seem too far fetch or unrealistic. Another thing is the kill-streaks. Now as much as I love kill-streaks and all i think that score-streaks were better due to having people play objective more. Another thing about the kill-streak system was the fact that you can’t lap your streaks constantly and can only earn them once. As much as get why they made that decision, i think it was awful and it not be in the game. Now Warezone however is honestly AWESOME and so much fun. Don’t get me wrong, there are tons and tons of issues in Warezone but in my opinion, i had more fun playing Warezone than Blackout back in Black ops 4. The last section of the fame is spec Ops. Now even though i don’t have much play time in spec ops, i must say that its fun for awhile and can help you pass the time, but its nothing like the traditional zombies me and a-lot of people are used to. All in All, out of all of the Call of Duty’s that came out in the past 5 or even 10 years, this has got to be the worst iteration of Call of Duty not just for me, but people like me who’ve been playing this series for a LONG time find this game boring with the maps, spawns, and honestly the way the Developers handle with these issues too. This game is a step in a good direction towards future Call of Duty. This is the best Call of Duty I have played since Black Ops 2.

Graphics - This game is graphically really great. I'm a console player and get a lot of unloaded textures when spawning in. This is not the worst thing in the world but I thought this was worth knowing. I just thought this deserves it's own section.

Story - I enjoyed playing the story, but didn't really care for the plot itself and why I was doing what I was doing. The new characters were not very memorable. Not really much else to talk about for me.

Co-Op - This mode is rather difficult unless you have an organized team. It had a good start with a new mission each season with each mission proving to be difficult. The two most recent missions they added as of writing this had the same mission which we had previously played but even harder. This turned me away from playing that mode as it just became too difficult. I have not played the survival modes that much, as I personally have not found any incentive to do so, therefore, I cannot speak for this mode. If you really want to know, I played it twice and found it repetitive. I got to round 30 in survival mode and got bored because I didn't find an increase in difficulty over time, so I just purposefully died.

Warzone- A pleasant surprise addition to the game. I did not think Activision was capable of making a mode for free and I'm glad it is as it was greatly increase the longevity of the mode. Great addition to the game. I personally love the idea of dying and going to the gulag. The mode for me personally is difficult without teammates, but is still enjoyable. None of the locations to me are interesting though, making me unsure of a good place to land. Most of the buildings are repetitive, but expected with a map that size. I would like to have more map changes.

Multiplayer - The multiplayer aspect of this game I think is the game's strong suit. Good gun-play with nice new door and lean mechanics. Not a fan of a lot of the maps. I only like around 4 of the 12 or however many maps. I like the progression of no prestige and the goal of getting Gold, Platinum and Damascus. I would have liked the progression to stop there, but no just more pain with Obsidian camo. I would like for more party game modes to be a permanent mode in the playlist. Although I like the door and lean mechanics, I feel like it rewards campers which slow down the gun-play. That being said, a lot of the guns are overpowered and viable to use (except most pistols imo). Call of Duty's store I think has been a success being cosmetic only as opposed to supply drops. The customization of your classes are really good and actually change how the gun plays out.

Other - This game has been really buggy with constant server lag and players viewing enemies before the enemy has the other player on screen. My PC friends have experienced a lot of hacked lobbies which have hindered their ability to play the game. The UI in lobby can be a bit confusing (For example how to manage a party and kick players).

Would be nice to have a vote for maps.

After years of asking "PLEASE!!! Enough futuristic shooting games, bring us Modern stuff back with the new generation graphics, that's all we want!!!", the fans were finally heard... in a way, at least.
The more pleasant the idea could be to the fans, CoD MW was a double-edged sword for all gamers. The franchise is surely a money-making machine that can bring most of its fans back to new-made games, but it is really disappointing how some simple things that can easily be fixed are just ignored.

Even after one year, for example, how come the Spec Ops mode wasn't fixed? One of the most epic and cool features of the previous games was turned into a nightmare. I've played CoD for years, finished most of the campaigns on their hardest difficulties and I could play the multiplayer decently as well... and my gosh! Even playing with friends who are good players and had microphones as well we couldn't have any fun playing the Spec Ops/Co-Op missions. It is so broken and hard that the only reason why people still play it is to get new skins or some kind of achievement for XP points and etc.

As for the Multiplayer, which is the most catching part of the game for most gamers and has been in the hearts of so many FPS fans... how could it just be so annoying and frustrating? I won't be hypocritical here and say "wow the multiplayer sucks but I still play it every now and then" nor claim that the mode isn't good at all due to some mechanics changes and me not being able, somehow, to follow these changes. I can be frank and say that the customizations, gunsmith, sound and map designs, playthrough, and the removal of loot boxes are to be congratulated and can provide hours of fun alone or with friends. The crossplay is very welcome as well and all the objectives aside from winning the matches make the game way more fun. But all of these seem to not be important at all when every match you play feels frustrating and painful to so many previous CoD players. The franchise always had "issues" with campers, for example, it is a regular play-style and there is nothing really wrong about tactical camping nor trying out different weapons that require this way of playing, but the huge problem here is that CoD MW literally rewards people for camping! From the level designs to game mechanics a shooting game that used to be so exciting and frenetic full of gun-fights was reduced to a sniping/hide-and-seek game. The sound of footsteps is so loud that players avoid running around looking for enemies and, instead, sit still on corners and respawn areas with long-ranged weapons to shoot them. Also, most of the weapons/perks unlocked in beginning levels give an advantage to campers, not to tell that mounting weapons on walls and other surfaces increases a lot the precision of all guns, making it really hard to avoid and spot these players. The results of these are that "regular" players no longer enjoy the game as much as they used to, spending more time running through all the enormous maps and dying instead of being into gun-fights having fun. It is also demotivating that every new Season hasn't been able to fix properly the weapons' balance, forcing players to play with certain weapons such as M4A1, MP5, etc, instead of what they want... and bringing new and more overpowered sniper rifles such as Barret and SPR 208 when camping is already broken... Really?!?!

And last but not least, the Campaign. The graphics and mechanics work really well, the voice acting sounded much better than many games, the playthrough is full of surprising moments where you are caught off guard, it shows violence as it is, in a way that can make you feel guilty and not always heroic. Also, many of the missions feel really immersive, the world-building through dialogs and gameplay is good, and the variety of missions and scenarios feels pleasant for an FPS game. Seeing Captain Price again felt quite nostalgic and the usage of real-life events to build the story was a great touch. But a big downside to the Campaign are the facts that not only the villains feel really generic and lack backstory/motivation, but also the game has regressed to that same lame plot: "Russians are bad guys, and since we don't wanna say it's Russia's fault let's say they are terrorists...from Russia!!!". Gosh, CoD developers really need to turn this page. So many executions for the only sake of shock-value and blaming Russia as a villain again?! Where are the villains like Raul Menendez, who is rememberable with great character development and makes the gamers want to kill the guy so badly through the game? Terrorist groups with a "good" motivation, posing as a "real" threat to the world and not just dumb folks who throw bombs at random places? Other countries working Together to deal with big threats and save the world Together, and not just the USA being the only heroes?

Anyways... a good game in a way and promising for a MW2, but a lot could be changed to make it better.

Story and co-op missions are available for anyone willing to sit through politically-charged setpieces and ignore the ridiculous bugs and broken AI. These can be equally frustrating and fun, but are probably the only portions of MW that require restraint or forethought. The simple gunplay and blistering pace of the competitive modes are still present, as are the game-breaking killstreaks and other silly mechanics for which the franchise is known. Lazy map design (and remixing) coupled with short rounds mean that it only takes a few matches to feel like you've seen everything. Weapons feel mostly the same, and are accompanied by the usual anemic sound effects. Cosmetic microtransactions are constantly thrown into your face in the form of individual purchases and the nigh-ubiquitous "Battle Pass." It feels more like one of those Korean F2P shooters rather than a title from a large Western developer.

The visual and aural components are the usual blend of archaic design and modern effects, which only serves to highlight the bland environments born from nearly two decades of cut-and-paste development practices.

Major technical bugs and unbalanced gameplay practically scream "EARLY ACCESS," but if you can turn off your brain (and mute the toxic voice chat,) there are times when the mindless stupidity of it all approaches something resembling fun. Just remember that they release yet another one of these every year--and it shows. ;)

Multiplayer is pretty much the same deal as before, but now maps are bigger which is simultaneously good and a bad thing. Good that you have multiple ways to go, but way the maps are designed can encourage camping style even more than before, especially with the mount-function that you can take cover behind different obstacles while being stationary.

There is lot to unlock in the multiplayer, and challenges and multiplayer missions can extend the playtime a lot. Just be ready for those campers sitting in corners with 725-shotguns...

Graphics are amazing since this game uses new game-engine, one of the best looking games I've seen this year.

I haven't played cod since ghosts was released as I didn't like the futuristic setting. Firstly just want too say the The campaign was amazing in this game. I'm level 147 online so it's fair too say iv been playing it alot. I'm just bored with it already there is next too no rewards after level 55 there isn't really much incentive to keep playing I'm not a great fan of the maps apart from 2 which are reasonably fun too play but the majority of them are just boring and lack any real character. There is no map in the game that is iconic or anything like the old maps from mw2 or mw 1 there just nothing really too them. Also thought I'd add the gun Smith is amazing it's great the amount of options you have to customise the weapons. Might be an unpopular opinion but I dont think there are anywere near enough guns in the game there could of been so much more variety. I know you can make variants through gunsmith but really there isnt alot of base weapons in the first place. I like the game but I'm just fed up with it abit now it needs more content and more things to unlock could do with some more calling cards and emblems aswell there lacking like much else in the game Expand

(literally unplayable) BUT and emphasis on the BUT the campaign has a few quality moments and held my interest.

Multiplayer: The Multiplayer is in a rough spot, its not bad and plays better than MW2 on launch but as i write this there are three viable weapons and the rest are sort of just there... Not bad but just outclassed. The game plays quite well on the new engine and i love the small quality of life improvements such as editing classes in game. Cross platform is a bit buggy and you will be kicked from your group occasionally but besides that works well and is lots of fun. Gunfight is beyond amazing and i love the competitive pacing of it (please add a ranked mode to it). Minor adjustments to gun balancing would make the multiplayer much better, but all in all ive enjoyed it.

Spec Ops: Yet to play it as i cant download the package required and at this point couldn't care about it, from what ive heard its broken and boring.

Campaign: i had little to no faith in the campaign as i haven't enjoyed a call of duty story since i was 11. the story is cheesy at times, you have your generic falling out of helicopters and walking it off, or your cover shooting for 15 minutes. But the story does have a few exceptional moments, Clean house is a tense level and has a great pacing. the campaign is short but extremely sweet and if you can look past the generic stuff, its quite fun.

all in all a fresh take on an old friend, id recommend it as a Christmas gift for a family member, but not something you should spend $80 CAD before taxes on. wait till it has a sale and definitely pick it up.

Spec Ops is a massive step back from Modern Warfare 3. Though they have attempted to re-integrate stuff like the stars rating system the mode is still flawed. The ones in MW3 were based around the story and served a nice tight packages of action and challenge. The MW2019 spec ops is large open areas filled with enemies that just make the mode a slog to get through and will leave most players board. The only survival mode is a 15 minute long map that is known to glitch at the end. Overall Spec Ops is a major step back.

Multiplayer is rather enjoyable. There is a lack of funnel maps and the mode has gone away from the futuristic lasers and jet packs. Recent maps like Shoothouse have shown just how good this games multiplayer can be.

The single player is interesting from a gameplay perspective but the story is forgettable as are the characters. Whereas in something like Black Ops 2 where your choices would effect the story and not end it, here they just end the game. Open a door to the terrorists and you get a bullet in the head followed by a checkpoint reset. In Blops 2 when given the choice to shoot a friendly or the enemy your choice would effect which would live and how the story would continue. Honestly this story has no balls and it's attempts at being edgy and shocking fall flat. I found myself laughing at how try hard it was.

Overall I find that this game is meh at best. The spec ops is a flop, multiplayer is pretty good, and the singleplayer is meh.

The multiplayer has a lot going for it, Infinity Ward tried new things such as Ground War and Gunfight, both are excellent gamemodes. The multiplayer has some crippling flaws that take away from the experience, skill based match making takes away some fun out of the multiplayer as well as many of the maps are designed as safe spaces for players which involves a lot of camping. Otherwise the multiplayer has a decent selection of maps that are both new and old. Lastly, the multiplayer misses some basic features such as map voting and being able to see your kills and your deaths which is disappointing since this is such an easy feature to add in and has been in mostly every Call of Duty game. Spec Ops is just okay, nothing really to say about it, it's fun but it's nothing ground breaking. The final feature of Modern Warfare was added recently, a free to play battle royale called Warzone. Unlike Blackout which didn't do much to differentiate itself from other battle royale games, Warzone adds tons of features, the most noticeable one being the fact then when you die you get send to the gulag and have to 1v1 your way out of there, this is a nice touch and makes Warzone easier to play.

Overall, Call of Duty Modern Warfare is a good game with many flaws. They're so many things done right but yet so many things done wrong.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I would like to put emphasis on the fact that this is the first Call of Duty I have actually enjoyed playing and invested a lot of time into since COD 4 remastered. The game itself is well balanced when it comes to its guns and is just generally fun and excited to play and I really do enjoy it. However, there is a major downside to this game and that’s the development of it. I have never played a game with so many issues and errors popping up. I know this isn’t just my network as it happens to everyone I know but everytime I freshly load up the game it says error connecting and sometimes this can genuinely take 3 attempts just to load up the game. You also can’t play loads of games back to back without a network error whether it’s being kicked out mid game for being disconnected from the call of duty servers or being kicked out of a party that you are in between games. I’ve noticed that in a party of 6 we can’t string more than 2 games together without their being a player booted out. The game itself also seems to freeze constantly and although it’s only for a few seconds when you’re in the lobby it can be so frustrating as you can’t even set up a class without the game glitching. The network errors for this game are such a let down considering how big the game itself is. I would genuinely rate this game a 9/10 if the network errors didn’t play such a big roll in preventing me from just having fun. This game with better servers and network consistency’s would be one of the top call of duty’s ever made hands down. Expand

Good, sadly, short campaign. Nothing spectacular.

Bought this game for multiplayer, came out unexpectedly dissapointed. AWFUL map design, super poor visibility on some maps, the only way to find a player on certain maps are to hunt for their nametags, which means that of course favors campers, because there's really no point in rushing the others, you will get flanked in a second.

This call of duty favored campers the most, doors everywhere, footsteps so easy to hear.
Maps are so big for a 6v6, combined with utter garbage design and visibility, its almost unplayable.
Small maps are a problem too, spawns are so damn broken, killstreaks basically freeze the game for like 20 seconds, you cant go out or the missiles will destroy you, another reason for camping. Headglitching... 12 tick servers...

Every time I log in, theres an update that requires a restart... Why cant the game update automatically overnight like all the rest of the games I have installed?? This is absolutely ridiculous. They need to fix the update delivery system asap. Its appalling and embarrassing considering other online games manage updates 10x better.

Aside from the absurd amount of updates, what happened to the leveling system? Why cant we prestige like previous games and receive a new badass prestige rank icon to showoff?? There was NOTHING wrong with that system! It gave us. sense of accomplishment. i felt like a badass when I finally reached prestige 8,9,10 so on and so forth. There is no sense of accomplishment if you reach 150 and get dropped to 50 after the season is over or even worse, drop to level 1 because of the stupid leveling glitch that they still havent fixed. It discourages you from playing!!!

Speaking of seasons and battle passes.... This whole battle pass thing is the worst thing to grace this industry. Its grotesque, unnecessary, and down right scummy. Its because of this battle pass that leveling your rank is a complete crap shoot. All this to please the publishing gods and satisfy their greedy pockets. Its disgusting the amount of money Activision makes and still have the audacity to ask for more.

    Ways to improve the game:
    1. Deliver updates behind the scenes aka overnight.
    2. Bring back the prestiging leveling system.
    3. If you are going to have a battle pass, do not let the leveling rank suffer. Bring back prestiging as an independent leveling system for those that do not want to buy/participate in the battle pass and an independent leveling system exclusive for battle pass members. Gameplay accomplishments and experience will apply to either player prestige or both systems depending if the player purchased the battle pass.

There, I fixed three glaring issues with this game and it only took me several minutes. Will it happen? Absolutely not but I needed a place to rant and let my frustrations out.

Other those things, the campaign is very good. The cinematic cutscenes are so well done and the characters are so incredible lifelike. The team really nailed the core atmosphere of Modern Warfare and really pushed it to the limits. Game play is solid also. The shooting mechanics have always been incredible and this game is no exception. Spec ops on the other hand is incredible lack luster. There arent that many missions and the ones available are boring and leave a lot to be desired. After experiencing the Campaign, you would expect the same level of story telling and action but you dont get any of that in Spec Ops. This is a playlist that can be removed and most the players wouldnt care.

Thats it for my review. i give this game a generous 6/10.

The graphics and new engine look amazing , the world looks much more detailed and better in scale especially on pc. The gunplay is smooth and fun although unrealistic but the added tactical elements are a much needed change that add to immersion. The sound design is also very good with the 3D audio helping to identify targets and it sounds like a battle would. Although the gun sounds are disappointing and don’t sound anything like their real life versions. The fact that weapons are also given fake names is weird an less immersive , plus would be nice to have had a bit more realistic recoil and gun mechanics. the campaign was short although enjoyable with serval memorable missions that are much more In line with classic call of duty titles. The multiplayer is one of the better titles , although still nothing as good as call of duty 1-6. At least the maps seem a bit more like actual battlefields and not just square small arenas with 3 lanes like the past 10 years or so. Although removing all restrictions would be the best approach. Ground war on the more open maps is especially fun and brings it towards much more immersive and tactical titles. The time to kill is good but could be even more faster to make up for this I play hardcore mostly. War zone is the standard overdone battle royal mode which is uninteresting to me but one of the better battle royals if your are into them. Although it does have a cheater problem at the moment. The crossplay is also a nice feature , although lag and hit detection does seem to be an issue with the game being hit or miss if it’s playable. This is not my internet as I have 150/mbs internet and experience no issue with other games. Warning though this game will eat hard drive space and has constant updates. The customisation is also very impressive and the best in the series and is easily the high point of the game. However there is a lot of micro transactions and some of the prices are crazy such as £20 for a few skins which is crazy as you can get some actual games for that price , pure greed from activision as usual. It is edgy and controversial and brings back a lot of memorable characters from previous Call of Duties. My only complaint would be in regards to the length of the story with it seeming relatively short lived. Now let's talk about the multiplayer. The MP is awful and trust me, I hate saying that. The MP is slow, campy, and just plain boring. Skill based matchmaking has ruined COD, mounting has encouraged campers to camp even more, there is more that I could say in regards to the MP but I will stop there. The COOP mode is boring, too grindy, and is ultimately a shell of its formal self. The only thing that saved this game is Warzone. Even though battle royale was not part of the game originally and came out months after release it has been its only saving grace. It offers play styles for both campers and people who want to race for kills. Warzone alone would probably receive a 8/10 but since it is part of the overall game I am giving it a 6/10 and that is being generous. Expand

Anyway despite my desire to play the MS store version of this would not work on my XBOX one for download. downloaded the campaign multiple times, restarted the console, cleared cache all that - nothing. After a day or so I gave up, and asked for a

The campaign is fantastic, its fun, its enjoyable. Every little detail i would consider perfect. The problem with the game is the community. Everyone i have encountered in this game i would consider a try-hard, plus, its not as casual as i would have liked. Alongside this, the developers desperately try to improve this game, but in my opinion, nothing is working. I know this isThe campaign is fantastic, its fun, its enjoyable. While you will see likely thousands of reviews regarding "Russian army triggering" comments of people who disliked the games political veering, I find that petty and not worthy of a 0 review, Frankly it shows much more about the person's personal grievance than a fair review of the game. Is it not an accurate representation of real world governments? H*ll no! Was it trying to be? Definitely not. Its a game people, not a real world representation of your country. Got that out of the way? Good. So onto the actual game. COD seems to be in a bit of a limbo right now due to the fact that their fanbase is overwhelmingly divided on different aspects of the game. Some like sprawling canvas maps and others like basic three lane maps. Some like a crazy guns-blazing campaign, others like a methodical story. Its difficult to find a middle balance, but I think COD Modern Warfare did a decent job of recreating this experience. The campaign is largely uninteresting and I dont find it particularly memorable, but its there for your enjoyment should you feel otherwise. The multiplayer is balanced enough and inviting to new players for the most part. Warzone is a good addition for free members. Overall gameplay is familiar, fanbase is toxic and sweaty, and its a camper's dream. A real classic COD experience. While I get this might not be sounding super enjoyable from my rating, believe me its plenty enjoyable to get involved in. I'd rate it a 7, but its closer to a 6 than an 8. Expand

MW all around is a good game, it has amazing graphics and sound design, the campaign was ok but WZ is definitely a must-try, its very addictive.

the score for this game is ridiculously not true, the only two main and hurtful criticisms or this game is that the portray the Russian army as war criminals which is absurd and the main thing that holds this game from being one of the best call of duty's out there is the terrible embarrassing completely, broken, lazy, and rushed spec ops.

Great campaign and a great new engine, ruined by intense SBMM and time to kill is too low so you can barely tell the difference between core and hardcore.

Everything is upside down. Call of Duty has a better solo campaign than multiplayer after many years. We will remember a perfectly scripted war with a dense atmosphere, but we’ll forget about the unbalanced online multiplayer. [Issue#298]

After a multiplayer-centric episode, the COD fans will be delight with the return of a nervous and strong solo campaign. Modern Warfare is back with old-fashioned gameplay that is more grounded and efficient. The generous amount of content adds some depth to one of the best chapters of the saga to date. Magic!

Overall Call of Duty: Modern Warfare is a good title that is marred by the expectations that the Modern Warfare name brings with it. The campaign has some really stellar gameplay moments that are brought down by the mediocre plot. Multiplayer was fun but felt a bit like the competition’s output (despite there being no Battlefield release this year) which may be a turn off for some. I don’t think Modern Warfare 2019 has done anything to make me rethink waiting for substantial price drops to play Call of Duty campaigns, because clearly multiplayer is still Activision’s main focus and that’s just not where I get my kicks.
