There is certainly a little effort put into the remaster (new models, animations and sounds), but removing the spec ops mode and the multiplayer (the best in the series according to some) is rather unfortunate.

While I probably should have guessed that trusting the opinion of my 12 yo self about the quality of MW2 would end up letting me down, for some reason, I actually went into this port expecting a great single player campaign. Pretty stupid of me.

What I ended up playing was a short, bland, boring slog of a campaign which does it's best to smash every possible modern war cliche into it's 4-hour runtime. I couldn't tell you the plot because I would honestly just doze off every time a "cutscene" would play, bored by the tedium of listening to Generic Army Guy #4 talk to Generic Army Guy #8 over a global map. The characters aren't memorable, the locations, with a few exceptions, are forgettable, weapons feel weak and your teammates/enemies blend in with the background so often it becomes a chore to pay attention to what is going on during combat.

I don't know why I allowed myself to expect something from a CoD campaign but I was let down and that's considering I didn't even pay for it (PS+).

Ok so... the big positive is the Graphics are spectacular, there are some have found different compared to the original ones... but the real big negative is the sound Gun firing, some of them are absolutely ridiculous and rubbish sound that doesn't sound like the original, I would love to go 8 but unfortunately the sound gun firing is a huge problem and that's... little disappointed

MW2 Remastered is gorgeous in terms of graphical upgrades and hidden gems, but lacks the originality and edginess that MW2 had when it came out. The best COD ever. The story is fantastic and the characters are awesome. This remaster only makes the game better, the lighting is great and the visual effects are fantastic, the face models are phenomenal, definetely a must buy for COD fans.

The graphics are incredible and the new animations are slick and smooth. Some characters in-game models have been changed but that's normal considering this is a remaster and Infinity Ward can't just use the old lower res models for a remaster. The story is the same as 10 years ago (obviously) and is still as incredible and controversial as it was then. This was personally more personal for me because I played MW2's campaign a lot over the last 6 to 7 years and memorized most of the missions and voice lines so to hear them again was very nostalgic. If you loved MW2's campaign and don't mind about no multiplayer you will love this remaster. Expand

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 Remastered is a superb recreation of my favourite Call of Duty game. The story stands up well, with big action set-pieces and smaller, more character-driven moments blending well. The divisive No Russian mission is in there, but it can be skipped if you're not into that.

The combat is brilliant with big meaty feeling weapons, interesting multi-level maps and a good mixture of run and gun, stealth and tower defence. Also, the drone is bloody good fun to use still after all these years.

The combat is as good as ever, the weapons feel meaty and satisfying and there is a decent amount of variety in weapons to keep things interesting. The graphics are good, as you'd expect from a CoD game.

The graphics look as good as you'd expect for a PS4 game, and all the usual high production values are on show with superb voice acting and smooth animations everything just feels super polished. Although, I played this after finishing the disappointingly janky We Happy Few so maybe it is just by comparison.

*I don't care about multiplayer so I can't tell you if that is any good or not.

I’d been hearing rumors about a remaster of “Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2” for years now, but little did I expect that it would see a surprise release. And little did I expect that the long-awaited remaster would only be roughly half of the game: as the title of this page clearly says, this remaster is, quite literally, just the campaign of the original game for eighth generation platforms. I’ll be honest, though, curiosity got to me with this one: I’m not a huge “Call of Duty” fanatic, but I quite loved the remaster of the first “Modern Warfare” game, and I’ve heard a lot of positive things about “Modern Warfare 2” as well, so I wanted to give the game a shot and see if it was anywhere near the level of the first game. Even if the remaster was just the campaign, that was fine with me, as I’m largely a single-player gamer as it is. After playing it, though, I was left wondering if the hype the game received in 2009 really had anything to do with the campaign.
Don’t get me wrong, in a lot of ways, “Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2” deserves credit: graphically, the game still looks sharp, and the remaster helps give the visuals a strong-enough facelift that I feel like the game hasn’t aged a day. In terms of the gameplay, it’s still so smooth, and much like the visuals, the controls and general gameplay feel as though they haven’t been touched by time. It still feels good to play, and many of the game’s big moments still do hit hard now. I’m pretty sure everyone remembers the controversial “No Russian” level in the game, and as polarizing as it’s sure to remain, playing the mission myself for the first time did leave me legitimately terrified. It’s a very troubling moment in the game that, like it or not, will most certainly leave an impact that’s hard to forget. Even after so many years, the game is still capable of leaving you tense and surprised around several corners.
Unfortunately, there’s a lot to this game I find myself disconnected from. As I mentioned above, this new release is simply a remaster of the original game’s campaign, and thus, the multiplayer and Spec Ops modes are excluded. I’ll say that I’m personally not too hurt about that because I don’t have a nostalgic attachment to the modes, and because, at least from a business perspective, I understand that Activision doesn’t want gamers jumping ship from the newest “Call of Duty” game to this game. That said, I do feel like, while $20 might not seem like too steep of an asking price, to me, when given the quality of this campaign, it’s something to think twice about. After all, it is an extremely short game that, to me, is bogged down by several factors. This includes (but is not limited to) some repetitive level design that wears out its welcome too fast, a completely over-the-top story that just feels like the equivalent of a Michael Bay movie (and one that leaves that controversial “No Russian” mission feeling like nothing more than empty edginess and shock value), and gameplay that, while remaining functional so many years later, feels no different than the “Modern Warfare” game that preceded it. And while the experience got a bit more exciting in the second half, I couldn’t shake the feeling that I had played this exact game when I played the remaster of the first “Modern Warfare.” Thus, with the campaign itself being a bit underwhelming, the exclusion of the multiplayer and Spec Ops modes does devalue the package a bit. I’ve heard rumors that those are supposedly coming to the game at a later date, and I’m sure it would be a more worthwhile purchase with those features, but right now, it feels empty.
All in all, I must say that “Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2,” to me, is the gaming equivalent of a fireworks show: it’s pretty to look at for a few minutes, but it lacks in substance and doesn’t leave enough of a lasting impression, and once it’s all over with, you’re left thinking, “man, that was a lot of noise.” It’s certainly not a bad game, but I can’t help but play this and feel like it was the point in the “Call of Duty” series where Activision knew they could coast, and it was around this point that “Call of Duty” started to feel like a lowest common denominator shooter that stands out thanks to its name-brand value, as opposed to it being a truly special shooter. It’s the point where “Call of Duty” cared less about its campaigns, and more about appealing to the most people possible. No, that’s not a bad thing, but this attitude led to the series feeling more standard, and I think “Modern Warfare 2” was the kickoff to that. As I said, it’s decent, but I can’t recommend paying for this remaster unless you have that deep of a nostalgic connection for the campaign. Maybe rose-colored lenses will help you enjoy this more than I did.
Final rating: 6 out of 10 “Decent”

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 Remastered is an attempt to earn fast money in a problematic period for the industry, when most of the planet's inhabitants are hiding in their homes and apartments. You can finish the story campaign in just five hours, and there is no multiplayer. In addition, in Russia and Ukraine, the developers managed to spoil the story due to the removal of a mission critical to the plot, which, along with the average graphics and other problems of the project, is disappointing. The original MW2 deserves the same respect as the first Modern Warfare game.

MW2 Campaign Remastered is everything you can expect from a remaster of one of the best CoD campaigns and FPS campaigns in general. It looks better, it feels better, even with its occasional audio issues. Still, it is a bit short, and unless you are a true fan or just nostalgic about those days you played it, it is hard to recommend to anyone else, due to its lack of multiplayer and lack of longevity.
