And here is the Soviet cranberries and a variety of gameplay, which has really changed relative to the previous parts and several endings. The comparing in Call of Duty Cold War is a great 4-5 hours or one evening. Yes, it's still the same shooting range with dummy, but there's no Hollywood blockbuster, but I liked it. I advise everyone to play on PS Plus or if later added to the Game Pass on Xbox. On PS4 Pro, the game looks pale, I advise you to still play on the current generation. Expand

Cold War doesn't have great graphics, it lacks content (maps) and SBMM can make the experience frustrating, but even so, it is a fun arcade FPS game "à la" Treyarch.

    Gameplay: 8/10
There's nothing groundbreaking here, it's pretty much your standard Call of Duty gameplay. But it works just as it has for the past 10+ years and makes for a satisfying FPS experience

    Online/Zombies: 7/10
i should start by saying I'm not the biggest fan of zombie game modes, but I will admit that this one was pretty fun. The multiplayer aspect shows some improvements from previous titles and is pretty entertaining as well. One gripe that I have is that there are some really sh*tty maps that get old very fast.

There's finally more to the game then just go get a box weapon, pack it, get your perks and do the easter egg. You have to think about prioritizing kill streaks vs armor, paying to start trials vs buying a couple box weapons every round. You are actually challenged to think about your strategy and trust your team to help you. If you don't have a good team, good luck winning in zombies. The rest of the game I feel is about a six or seven, COD doesn't get me excited anymore, they're just generic shooters and this is done as well as any other imo. The zombies is easily a 9.5 for me, ias soon as we get more maps that goes up to a 10. I do think this might be my favorite zombies experience to date, packaged with a somewhat normal multiplayer shooter and decent campaign. Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. -Campaign: As a sequel to Black Ops 1, the campaign is really good! It has interesting characters and also a cool newcomer, Russell Adler. Woods, Mason, Hudson and CO. are great! The storyline is pretty good where you go after the Soviet Agent Perseus. The locations where it is set are also interesting.
However, as most of COD Campaigns, this one has 10 Missions and is 5/6 Hours long.

    -Zombies:
The Zombies are lit. My favorite Zombies Map is Kino der Toten, however, Nacht der Untoten comes close! I had lots of fun with randoms and friends fighting the Undead!

    -Multiplayer:
Multiplayer feels like a step back from MW2019. It is as always lots of fun with friends and the new Modes are also good. Although, the MP5 is just way too op and everyone uses it. I liked most of the maps, but on Miami were lots of campers. But in Overall, Multiplayer was lots of fun with my friends and we really enjoyed VIP Escort.

    Verdict: 8/10 Campaign, 7/10 Multiplayer, 8.5/10 Zombies.

    The GOOD
    - Minimap: There is a minimap, crazy enough this isn't a gimme these days
    - Gunplay: the guns are fun to use and there is 20 at launch with new unlockables coming each season, as well as one unlockable currently in the "pre-season"
    - Balancing: the game is already balanced well with the exception of a couple things that will likely be tweaked within the first patch (ex. Field Mics, MP5, M16)
    - Menu music: Small detail not many care about but it is easily the best menu music of any COD
    - UI: Excellent user interface that showcases in-depth weapon stats including ADS speed, Sprint to fire time, damage dealt at each range, and tons of other stats for each weapon like never before seen in any COD
    - Challenges / Camos: Excellent way of organizing and showcasing challenges, giving the player something to be working towards in terms of a better camo unlock system, including a variety of camos that are obtainable, also an addition of zombies challenges that provide zombie gold, zombie diamond, and zombie dark matter camos
    - Customization: tons of options for attachments, gunsmith is back but better than ever, wildcards that affect perks, attachments, secondaries and lethals
    - Combined Arms: an easy laid back game mode that is made to chill and drink a beer with friends without the worry of SBMM

    The BAD - al
    - Lack of Maps: Only 8 maps and 2-3 are bad: Satellite, Armada and Miami although I particularly don't mind Miami but most dislike it. COD is now focusing on providing a continuous product. If you buy this game, it's not a finished product but more like an updated monthly service. Treyarch has announced 3-5 new maps will be coming in Season 1 (December 10)
Lack of 6v6 modes: could use more traditional 6v6 modes, no Capture the Flag, Headquarters, and many other respawnable 6v6 modes, also no Ground War (Contains TDM, Dom, Hardpoint, KC, and FFA as the only respawnable 6v6 modes)
Snipers: A lot will fight me on this but the snipers need to be nerfed, maybe not them themselves but there is an attachment that lowers the ADS time to be on par with some assault rifles, which is ridiculous. Snipers can also use attachments which remove their flinch. Both these attachments are broken
    - Fireteam Dirty Bomb: it's bad and confusing, just trying to be like fortnite multiplayer mode, just strange
    - Leaderboards: Glitched and not available currently
    - Poor Mid Tier Scorestreaks: Most mid tier scorestreaks feel weak. Sentry turret is easily destroyed, napalm fire doesn't stay on ground, Artillery is a small radius of bomb
    - Bullet velocity: stronger than any COD before, all attachments for all weapons, especially SMG's must use any attachment that improves bullet velocity

The UGLY - not fixable, here to stay
    - Leveling: Confusing, odd, better than Modern Warfare, why can't we just have normal prestige? Apparently there are two seperate levels, season level and rank level? Little info online to find on the subject, some youtubers even suggest their level is glitched because it shows two different levels after prestiging, no one seems to understand how the leveling works once you enter prestige
    - SBMM: By far the worst part of the game, this game seeks to keep everyone's KD and Win/Loss between 0.75-1.25. It's most certainly possible to get out of this range, but it will put you into a much more difficult lobby, the higher your K/D and W/L. Sucks to play with friends with higher stats than you because it is certainly noticeable. One friend with a 2.5 K/D, i can't play with because I struggle to go positive each game but if I play with another friend with a 0.8 K/D, I finish each game on the top of the leaderboards. Very noticeable
    - Scorestreak System: Awful, no killstreaks, no scorestreaks. Rather everyone utilizes killstreaks through death though with a multiplier the bigger the streak. Unfortunately, the end of the game turns into everyone calling in streaks the same time. If you fall behind in Dom, Hardpoint, or other objective game modes you won't get your streaks to try to come back until the game is already decided. No one even knows how the multiplier works
    - Map Design: some of the maps are pretty bad, Satellite, Miami, Armada. They flow pretty bad and are way to open, encouraging snipers, campers, and slow gameplay. Please give us normal 3 lane maps
    - Shotgun secondaries: speaks for itself, these should not be secondaries and everyone uses them. No more running up on snipers, everyone has a shotgun

It has excellent mechanics for a first-person shooter, playing much faster and sharper than just about anything else out there. It has excellent graphics, and the style, look and storyline are some of the best I've experienced in COD in years.

The campaign is the best of any of the Call of Duty or Battlefield games I've played since Black Ops 1. The story is somewhat interesting, the characters are cool, and the weapons and mechanics are strong. The levels are still linear, though more complex and involved than many of the past iterations of these COD games.

Multiplayer is the bread and butter here and this game does it exceptionally well. The gun mechanics are crisp and snappy, and they look authentic. Gameplay mechanics are excellent and fast. Other shooters feel sluggish by comparison. You have a wealth of gun attachments to choose from, and the interface actually tells you how each attachment changes the stats of your gun specifically. If you enjoy playing fast, you can increase your sprint speed, sprint-out speed, aim-down-sight time and movement speed noticeably. If you're a defensive-wiz or a sniper, you can kit out for accuracy and precision, while sacrificing your mobility.

There's also a solid set of maps to choose from, with variety in their layouts--Nuketown, Mall, Sanatorium, Checkmate and Raid are my personal favorites. The maps are generally more straight-forward than Cod Modern Warfare--as your not able to use verticality nearly as much--but they're still enjoyable.

I generally stick to Domination, Team Deathmatch, Kill Confirmed and Hardpoint, and enjoy Nuketown so much that most of my time is spent on the mode Nuketown 24/7. However, there are multiple other enjoyable multiplayer modes--Fireteam, VIP Escort and Control are all a lot of fun, and all very different from your typical deathmatch-style fight.

I don't play zombies very much, but it seemed cool when I tried it and I know a lot of people really love this side of multiplayer.

You're also able to track your progress and stats with a wealth of information in the barracks tab. And you can generally enjoy multiplayer without ever having to buy anything besides the seasons pass. There's bragging-rights incentives, as you can earn various banners and emblems by completing challenges.

    Now to the downsides.

    1. Skill-based matchmaking. Enough people complain about this that I feel I don't need to spend too much time on it. I don't hate it as much as many do, however, I do yearn to go back to a world where I can play casually, and not have to exhaust myself with sweaty-level effort every time I enter a match.

    2. The variety in weapons. The list of guns is fewer than Cod Mw, and so many work almost identically to one another. The constant nerfing/buffing adjustments in the updaes results in a tepid mix of firearms, eliminating the meta, but also the interesting mix of strategies that players will employ when faced with a set of very different tools. Often the guns they buff aren't bad at all, they just require more-skilled players to use effectively. And by making them easier to use, and more like the other weapons, you're removing one of the most enjoyable parts of this mode--mastering certain weapons and certain play styles.

    3. The scoring isn't great. Often, you'll play the objective far more than anyone else--say doubling or tripling the next guy on your teams' time in hardpoint only to finish in 4th place.

Overall, it's a very good shooter with a B- campaign and a B+ multiplayer experience. It could use some more weapon variety to keep the game interesting, but it's definitely worth picking up.

The decisions you make, while they can change the course of the mission, have no significant impact on the endings. There's a lots of useless or unnecesary content, like the side missions, or the briefings that feels like they put their time in for nothing, instead of making the story a bit longer.

    Points: 8.4
It could have been a masterpiece, but it was rushed.

Multiplayer: Gameplay isn't as crisp and comlpete like other entries, and tries to find a balance between the old cod and new cod. The gun variety is a bit lower in comparison to past games, but most of the arsenal seems to be really balanced, with the exception of a couple that need adjustments. The scorestreak system is confusing, and it even feels random at times, and is not as rewarding as the old system. The classic mode maps presented in beta are as good as they were in it, but the game only adds two new maps at launch that feel liek they were made with already made assets for the sake of having more maps. Combined Arms is pretty unengaging. The players is set in a large scaled scenario to battle for objectives in teams of 12 players, with many tools at their disposal, like vehicles to travel between locations, armored ships, and turrets in key locations. The mode tries to elevate the classic multiplayer experience, however, for some reason it keeps the same basic objetctives and brings nothing new to them. The potential is there, but for some reason is not used. If the mode offered something like, to try and blow up bombs in the enemy ship, or a large scale conquer domination where a team needs to defend multiple locations around the map, and the other has to take all before time runs out, it would be a hit, but for some reason they decided to use their bigger and newer playgrounds to play the same patio games.

    Points: 7.8
Balanced and fun gameplay but leaves areas with untapped potential and lacks a LOT of content. Like, a damn lot of content.

    Zombies:

Gameplay brings a new progression system that force the player to keep up with it by saving up and collecting the three currencies (points, salvage, hg salvage), to use it on anything they want out of the 14 types of object at its disposal, like a war machine, a C4 a sentry turret, a chopper gunner to annihilate massive hordes in lots of different ways, or to keep up with armor and gun damage level and perks that will save their ass. Die Maschine, is a let down from past launch maps. The place feels empty in the outside areas, and cluttered on the insides. Aesthetically, fails at developing a concept. Every other Treyarch map has a unique style and mood, whereas this one, is the first zombies map that feels like it has no personality. Maps like Shadows of Evil not only had a present and flashy aesthetic, but also pushed the inmmersion to its limits by making a unique HUD, custom perk jingles, made up brands and locations. Die Maschine is torn up between being, a WW2 abandoned experiment bunker, a nuclear fallout, and an abanoned crash site, and every style is half way achieved and divided heavily in the areas of the map. The only achievement is the Dark Aether dimension, where the map turns into this psychodelic and magic light show that looks amazing, but the mode is only available for a minute and a half every now and then, and brings nothing to the gameplay. The new crafting system also deprives the map from having its own traps and equipment to push its narrative. The Wonder Weapon has a nice concepts but fails at being damage effective, and on top of that, the different upgrades bring nothing new and feel generic. The main easter egg quest is extremely short, unengaging, and fails at telling a compelling story to the events of the map, and instead just goes through random bits of storytelling that can't form a consistent storyline. The Boss zombie, is not dangerous at all and brings no challenge to the player, but instead is an annoying projectile launching bullet sponge that after being killed decides to split in two faster and more annoying versions of the iteself. You can also purchease a random that challenge that rewards the player depending on how well they did, however, the rewards are most of the time neither worth the challenge, nor the price. The only thing that saves this empty mess, is its layout, since it has very fun and unique areas to play in, where you can climb up and down on the crashed plain parts, run around in open and empty areas, or enter more tight areas surrounded by resources.

    Points: 8.8

Solo he jugado la campaña. La experimentacion que hace el juego en el tramo final es muy sorprendente. Sin embargo, el juego es incapaz de sostener la barra tan alto como el mismo la sube con ese giro.

This game is a nostalgia trip and a breath of fresh air at the same time. For what Treyarch went through to get this game out on time is nothing short of impressive.

With 40 bucks I'm actually having a lot of fun with all game modes. The terrible part is the SBMM system. It's beyond control since it literally lags you spontaneously in game when the system is trying to balance you while facing an enemy who's underdog to you. This is **** up. But other than that, it's great.

The campaign is brilliant engaging with a variety of missions and pace and the zombies is great and any zombies fan will love yet I could not give it 10/10 as the multiplayer is a straight up downgrade from modern warfare with a worse engine and more clunky feeling movement as well as more unbalance and over powered weapons, However I would recommend playing the gunfight mode for a greatThe campaign is brilliant engaging with a variety of missions and pace and the zombies is great and any zombies fan will love yet I could not give it 10/10 as the multiplayer is a straight up downgrade from modern warfare with a worse engine and more clunky feeling movement as well as more unbalance and over powered weapons, However I would recommend playing the gunfight mode for a great balanced experience as everyone uses the same guns in a 2v2 battle and if played with a friend I would give 2v2 gunfight a 10/10 for the great and sometimes bizarre encounters in that mode Expand

Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War ends up mirroring what the Call of Duty franchise offered last year, with some new additions that are also welcome, especially for long-term fans. While being set during a very intense period, the campaign ends up erring for its disappointing longevity, even though the value of repetition is intrinsic to it. Zombies are back in style, while multiplayer gains an excellent new mode, but here it errs again for the arsenal's lack of variety.

While Cold War is a part of a series I would have said that I loved, I can’t fully embrace it now knowing that this work is trucking in harmful stereotypes via patriotic-tinged gameplay. A decent CoD multiplayer experience will likely emerge from the currently-underwhelming Cold War, but I’m going to seriously consider whether that gameplay is worth enduring (and supporting) the rest.

There’s a surprising number of changes, and most work. With an enjoyable campaign and a generous amount of online content, Cold War deserves a warm reception. [Issue#183, p.68]
