NO, this is NOT a racing sim! There's Gran Turismo for that. This game is a very fun arcade racer, with SOME real & good physics. The remaster provides all of the micro transaction swag, from the various additional cars that had to be bought on the PS3, to a second & smaller island to continue your fun. With the price tag being much smaller now, it's a great single player pickup.

I’m not sure why this is considered such a classic. Burnout Revenge was my game, and I loved it. Criterion did themselves no favors with the “open world”. I’m not a pro gamer, but I didn’t finish half my races because I couldn’t find the finish line. It’s infuriating. Car customization is limited to colors, which didn’t bother me in Revenge. The cars felt unique in that game. I have no incentive to discover new areas or unlock cars in Paradise. The garage mechanic is annoying at best. Engine sounds and car characteristics are interchangeable. Soundtrack remains a highlight. This isn’t a bad arcade racer by any means, I just really wanted to make the point that it’s not some cult classic. There are hundreds of vehicles and I don’t care about any of them. Expand

I love arcade racing action but I was really shocked about this bad remaster. On PS4 Pro it still looks like a PS3 game, it completely feels like a PS3 game ... just the 60 FPS are nice, but related to the poor graphics it is nothing special about this. 4K optimization looks really bad for what could be possible, HDR is missing at all. If you like such a type of racing game than take a look on Dangerous Driving or Hot Pursuit Remaster, both still aren’t good games but noticeably better than Burnout Remaster.

    * Annoying open-world design - drive around to find a race instead of using a menu, to be told you already did that race before and have to skip it by "standing still for a while". Some races requires you to have different car classes - how do you switch? Drive to a "wreck place" to choose cars, instead of using a menu. This was a BAD game design choice which is probably the most infuriating part of this whole game.
    * Awful mini-map where you cant set waypoints and no indicator when in race where your suppose to go - another reason why open world was a poor choice for this racer. I dont like to have to look at a map to figure where Im suppose to go in a racing game. There should be only ONE way. Here, you need to switch paths at certain intersections and if you miss it (which is really easy cause there is no in-game indication of where to go either) you can just as well restart. Infuriating to say the least.
    * Graphics are pretty nice, but nothing that will directly wow you.
    * In-game sound of cars are also quite nice.

For the original price, 40 USD, I would have been pissed with this game. For 20 USD I guess it gets a pass as a "fair game" but not more than that. I honestly wish I had spent my money on something else, the open world design is just what really does it in for this game. Buy something else

Burnout Paradise is a regular racing game the same way that Logan is a regular superhero movie...it's not. It's so much more than just a racing game because it has so much more to offer players. Sure, you have races within the game but other events such as Stunt Runs (in which you try to do as many consecutive stunts as possible to beat the target score before time runs out), Marked Man events (in which other cars team up and try to take you down before you reach the finish line, or your car is totalled by them), Road Rages (in which you try to take down as many other drivers as you can before time runs out, or you're totalled), and Burning Routes (made specifically for each car, in which you race against time to get from point A to point B). Since there are really only four types of events to do, the distance covered and locations related to each event are fairly unique which offers the player not only fresh experiences each time, but the routes you take are completely up to you.The most successful player is usually the one that's the most creative, especially in this game.

The best part of completing events is License progression which starts as a learner's permit and then progresses D to A, followed by the Burnout License and lastly the Burnout Elite License. Every 8 (on average) events completed, a new car is unlocked for you to drive. However, you can't just start driving it immediately because you have to find it and total it before it's delivered to your Junk Yard (which is sort of like the garage/hub of the game). And then, once you wreck the car, you can drive it and complete it's Burning Route to unlock and upgraded version of that car (both in performance and aesthetic).

But things to do here go FAR beyond just completed events and getting new cars. There are 50 Super Jumps to fly off of, 120 Billboards to tear apart, and 400 construction gates to smash through hidden all around this huge open world. You could play for hundreds of hours and still have things to do. (In my case, 36 hours since I've played the game a good 4-5 times now) If you don't believe me, just know that they've also added Big Surf Island which is an entire new world to explore with more challenges, Billboards, Smash Gates, and now: MEGA Jumps. I'm hyping it up a little too much because it's been out for a decade but this game is simply a must play. The addition of cop cars, toy cars, bikes, legendary movie-themed cars, and boost special cars really make it refreshing (even though I had the PDLC back in the day).

Instead of the 100% it deserves, I'm giving it a 90% for two reasons: 1) the last 20 events were a monstrous chore as I've gotten tired of playing this game (36 hours in 3.5 days) and 2) the soundtrack got not only old but annoying. Since I only like about 6 songs on the soundtrack, I've listen to them dozens of times recently and now songs I used to like are infuriating (My Curse, Give It Up, Archers, Fake It, etc) so I made a Spotify playlist to listen to while playing just so I don't have to worry about music annoying me during an intense race.

Anyways, fantastic game and I wish the online trophies were easier to achieve.

It's a remaster, so it's kind of the same game with a few graphical updates. The game itself still holds up well in this era and personally I'm not disappointed with it. If you already have the PS3 game or on a different platform, it might be worth skipping if you already have all the dlc. But other than that it's a worthwhile pick up.

    I'll tell you - 10 years ago.

I loved and played the Burnout series for hundreds of hours back in the day. And if they decided to redo Revenge I'd buy it (like this one) first day.

This game lacks the all-out crash modes of old. The ones I'd play over, and over, and over, and OVER. Trying to get the highest possible scores as I laid waste to every car/bus/truck I could destroy.

But this has a lot of fun moments, and it is ten times the fun of any of the Need for Speed games.

Figuring out how to destroy billboards, or get to secret islands, or just discover new and interesting ways to beat your fellow drivers - it's a gas, gas, gas.

    Try it, you'll like it!

I never played Burnout Paradise in 2008 so this was a new experience for me so to those few people similar to me, this review is for you.

The game has mostly aged very well. The handling of the cars feels great, very fast paced but sometimes overwhelming if you’re using faster cars. The detection between cars needs a little improvement but it’s mostly there, you will crash without knowing why quite a few times. The events are fun to do although a bit repetitive overtime. If you’re completing the events, try not to use the DLC vehicles straight off as you will break the games progression. They are incredibly overpowered and you will cheese the game.

But the exploration of the world, smashing through gates and billboards, getting the fastest times on roads and racing around with your friends online is where the game really shines at its best here. It is a very well designed world. Full of shortcuts, stunts and unique locations. It be hard not to say you will spend the majority of your time on exploration.

I never really liked any of the freeburn challenges, like doing very specific tasks with random people online. It was a very good concept but it usually ended up with people not following the tasks, not understanding them and generally ended up with a lot of downtime waiting and people leaving half way. There's a lot of them to complete and I personally found it too much of a hassle to bother.

To sum up here, this game is a very well done remaster and really highlights the reasons why we need another Burnout game. Well as long as EA keeps it’s greed out of the picture anyway. I never 100% completed it or anything but my short time with it was nothing short of enjoyable.

You can tell the amount of artistic and design skill and pure love that went into this game from the original Criterion team. And kudos for the porting team for a perfect remaster. From the first 5 minutes to 20 hours in, the pacing of the game is flawless. It has a low bar of entry and conforms to your interests and skills. But then it becomes very challenging to navigate traffic at ridiculous speeds. When you inevitably screw up, it actually rewards you with insane metallic carnage and some silly banter from the narrator instead of making you feel like crap like the “pro” racing games. Burnout is a franchise near and dear to me. Going open world made it lose some of the insane speed and high octane thrills the older games like Revenge featured (boo, no explosions!) but Paradise is still a wonderfully fun arcade racer. Tonnes of cars with varying types of boost mechanics make for pretty deep driving gameplay, and every single junction has an event to take part in.

Tonnes of cars with varying types of boost mechanics make for pretty deep driving gameplay, and every single junction has an event to take part in.

Now, barring a couple of minor graphical tweaks, this is Paradise pretty much as it was almost a decade ago. For better or worse. Going back, it's surprising how little customization there is, be it controls, camera, or car, there's not much in the way of options. This means you have to get used to some of the game's quirks. Turning the camera is more trouble than it's worth and you'd better have some patience if you want to play Road Rage, since you can't skip any takedown replays.

Thankfully, this is Burnout Paradise after having a year's worth of work done on it, so it does feature a bunch of quality of life improvements that weren't there when it first came out. Restarting a race is quick and painless, and you can choose what time of day to go burning around in and whether you want Avril Lavigne or Mozart on the radio.

Then there's Big Surf Island... As intricately designed as Paradise City is, the island off the coast is Criterion's crowning achievement in level design. There are usually several routes weaving in and out of any given road on Big Surf Island, littered with insane mega jumps and billboards that require extreme stunts to smash your way through. Going back to it has been one of the most fun racing experiences I've had in years.

Playing on PS4 Pro, the game runs like a dream for the most part. Only had one lock up out of seven hours playing so far and a bit of slowdown during race results. There doesn't seem to be any info out there about what Pro upgrades it features, but according to the console "super sampling mode" is activated when I start up, so it must be running at higher than 1080p.

All in all, I'd definitely recommend Burnout Paradise Remastered if you're into fast, fun racing games that encourage you to smash your rivals to bits. It's a massive driving playground, made even more fun if you've got friends to join in online.

However, if you've already played the original, or more importantly, own all of the DLC for the original, it's debatable whether upgrading to this is worth it. I'd have expected a bit more love and care to go into upgrading such an iconic title, the graphical overhaul isn't all that extensive (and some stuff like denser smoke particles make it a bit harder to drive) so really it's convenience that determines whether existing fans would want to take a punt at the current price.

Burnout Paradise was a good game when it was released, but it still feels too soon for a remaster. I don't feel nostalgic about it yet at all. Maybe my perception of time is different than these developers; especially Nintendo since they re-release a year old game every other month.

Ahh nostalgia. There certainly needs to be more burnout games just like there needs to be more midnight club and Motorstorm!. Too many racing games tries to pull the more realistic setting and that is all you see instead of the fun, chaotic, mayhem of driving a fast car through a city. Besides that though, this game is still a blast and comes with a free dlc and tons of vehicles to choose from to take on the various missions as you try to upgrade your drivers license! I bought Burnout paradise on PS3 for 10.00 and it was the best invested in a game. The remastered version is beautiful and well done. It looks better on the PS4 and it's still as addicting to play as before.

This is my first experience with a burnout game or racing game in general and it's extremely fun! I'm enjoying the singleplayer and my time online with my friends. I'd recommend it if you're looking for a bowl of ice cream type game - something simple and fun in a genre you want to play.

As an owner and played-to-deather of the original on PS3, I've been waiting for a sequel to this on the PS4 for ages.. The graphics are smoother than they were on PS3 as you'd expect, the soundtrack is pretty good plus you get the added bonus of the DLC included too.
If you want a racing game that doesn't take itself too seriously, has lots of cars to collect, is easy to pick up and play and thrills that satisfy older and younger gamers. All they need now is a sequel and I'm in :)

i assuming most players have allready play the game on the old version but i will write my review for those who might be first timers on the game . first of all the game is superfun , it is just amazing i could say with all my honesty that is propably not the best racing game on ps4 but is for sure the most fun to play its the best on just racing and free roaming and do whatever you wanti assuming most players have allready play the game on the old version but i will write my review for those who might be first timers on the game . first of all the game is superfun , it is just amazing i could say with all my honesty that is propably not the best racing game on ps4 but is for sure the most fun to play its the best on just racing and free roaming and do whatever you want in the city , only action , without story missions or cops or any career and that staff . the way that the cars moving in this game with all the speed and almost unlimited nitro and real trashing up the car scenes , it can blow your mind away . it has some fictional but still very awesome cars and the races and challenges can be just incredible . as for the remaster , i hadnt finish the game on ps3 but i have played a few times and i can say that game is very improved , for the graphics , for the sound effects , for the mechanics . it doesnt look like a brand new game but it is still way better that the old version . i give it 8 ,1 point for the graphics which are okay but not the best and 1 point cz i play it for 4 days i have almost reach the end of the game , so its kind of short to me . in general is a MUST have game for anyone who just love racing games Expand

Great game, despite the annoying camara, maybe a lock on? Cause when you stand stil the camara moves for no reason to the side and takes a while to see vieuw in front of you, also when driving backwards...annoying, but overal...great game . Hope Activision will remaster Blur...that would be awsome.

The game is great... when you play it on a steering wheel. I have a Logitech T150 that is both PS3 and PS4 compatible. We still play burnout on the PS3 when we have a bunch of people over. The kids love it. So you think the remastered version would simply carry over that feature. Wrong. After waiting months for the remaster, we find out that they didn't bother making it for a wheel. The Burnout series is just too great to just die because of other racing games that aren't even close the be as good as most of the Burnout games. Now that I've played Paradise too, I can say, it is very fun, just like the old ones. Please don't just bury these fantastic games. Remaster more or even make a new title. I don't care. It can only be good (without micro-transactions).

Too little remade to justify the price? Perhaps. But we've not had a racing game quite like Burnout Paradise since it debuted. Still essential. [May 2018, p.95]

Burnout Paradise Remastered is the remastered version of a legendary arcade racing game. Visually, the remaster itself doesn't give you the feeling that you're playing a modern racing game, the game is polished, but it still feels outdated. That being said, it's still fun to play if you liked the original, though now you can play in 4k and 60fps with all DLC included, and with an original banging soundtrack.

Anyone looking to smash through the game’s 705 shortcuts, billboards and jumps is a true glutton for punishment, but Burnout Paradise was never made to test players’ skills — it was made to be an escape, which is why the poor difficulty curve is so forgivable. It will always be a pleasure to return to the warm sun and speedy shenanigans of strangers in this familiar place, even if just for a few minutes.
