Bubsy The Woolies Strike Back: Why. So the plot for this “game” is that Bubsy gets his golden wool stolen and he has to get it back that’s it. So surprisingly the game controls well for what it is, but GOD this is so dull there is nothing to this game I beat the game in literally 50 minutes and they sold this game for 40 bucks when it first came out WHY it’s not even worth being free, butBubsy The Woolies Strike Back: Why. This is unironically the best video game ever made in video game history. I'm so shocked that this is somehow even better than Bubsy 3D which I thought used to be the best game ever! Mario or sonic will never be as good as Bubsy 3d or this masterpiece

Nobody. Not a single. Solitary. Soul. Seriously wanted Bubsy to come back from the dead. Seriously wanted Bubsy to come back from the dead. However, by the power of memes alone, we were graced with a new Bubsy game in 2017, coming out around the same time as both Super Mario Odyssey and even Sonic Forces. Yeah, I'm fairly certain most people were paying attention to either the portly plumber's globetrotting or Original the Character creator. Bubsy only continues to exist today because our jokes and memes have gotten to the point where it was able to revive one of the most reviled platforming mascots of the '90s.

I will give Woolies Strikes Back this much credit. It certainly is the best Bubsy game ever made. That is not really saying a whole lot since this game is just so painfully average and by-the-numbers. It controls perfectly fine, with some nifty quality-of-life improvements that make it a thousand times more bearable than the original games. It looks nice and colorful. The soundtrack is just sort of...there, and you can still have Bubsy shut up just like you can in Bubsy 3D (how many of you even knew that was possible). The problem, though, is that being functional, yet boring is always going to be far worse than being bad, but interesting. This game gives very little to talk about. Much of the level designs are your basic platforming fare. You can collect tons of yarn balls throughout the stages, but collecting them all is there purely for completionists sake as they are not necessary for progression. Most of the boss fights are decent, toward the end of the game they really start to drag through mud. Oh, and the entire game can be beaten in about 2 hours. The fact that it's so short is not the bad part. The fact that it was released for $40 in 2017 is what makes it egregious.

I mean, there really isn't a whole lot to say about this game other than, "It's a functional Bubsy game". If you desperately wanted one, here you go, but I would not spend more than maybe $5 at most for this game. Its normal asking price is asking for far, far too much. The Woolies Strike Back is ultimately a game that doesn't need to exist, and frankly, at this point, I think even most people have quickly forgotten about it. I don't think memes are the best form of marketing, Acclaim.

There's also Bubsy’s one-liners, which is deftly woven into his characterisation- his writing draws heavily from Shakespeare literature, for instance. The fans understand this stuff; they have the intellectual capacity to truly appreciate the depths of these jokes, to realise that they're not just funny- they say something deep about LIFE. As a consequence people who dislike Bubsy truly ARE idiots- of course they wouldn't appreciate, for instance, the humour in Bubsy’s existential catchphrase "what could possibly go wrong?” which itself is a cryptic reference to “to be or not to be, that is the question.” I'm smirking right now just imagining one of those addlepated simpletons scratching their heads in confusion as Michael Berlyn’s
genius wit unfolds itself on their television screens. What fools.. how I pity them.

And yes, by the way, i DO have a Bubsy tattoo. And no, you cannot see it. It's for the ladies' eyes only- and even then they have to demonstrate that they're within 5 IQ points of my own (preferably lower) beforehand. Nothin personnel kid

While the levels, visuals, and gameplay are decent, the forgettable music, boring collectables, and short length makes this an incredibly by the numbers 2D platformer that is certainly the best of the Bubsy series, but incredibly paltry in comparison to the countless better options out there.

This game is severely overhated. This, The Woolies Strike Back, was a very well executed revival of the gagster bobcat. It takes many elements from the older games and improves upon them greatly.

First one is the verbosity meter. If you don't admire Bubsy for his character, you can just turn off his one-liners, playing the game for gameplay alone (but who wants to do that?). Another

Another positive is the extremely smooth controls. The controls in this game...Surprisingly, they're absolutely great. They're sharp, responsive, and you almost certainly feel like it's your own fault whenever you die. It's that good.

Aside from sharp controls, another positive are all the injokes made in reference to the older games, which just add to some of the hilarity of this entire game's existence.
The artstyle, the soundtrack, and all the above are all also positives for this game, as they're all memorable and a great listen/watch.

My only real gripe with the game is the lack of a longer story mode, as that would have made for a much longer and content filled adventure.

Overall, go into and play this game whilst abandoning any preformed biases you may have against Bubsy as a character. As a platformer, this is a must-play. It's worth a shot.

No one likes Rayman. No one ever liked Rayman. Just like Cory in the House, Rayman is a meme ironically praised by shut-ins who really need to get out more and whose "ironic" reviews make Metacritic an even bigger joke than it already is.

With that said, this game certainly isn the best one I've ever played. In fact, it's way better than any of the previous Bubsy games, and that's saying something, considering those games were great.

The story is iconic: Bubsy's golden fleece gets stolen by the Woolies and Bubsy wants to get it back. Definitely the best story line I've ever seen.

The controls are better than the original Bubsy's were. Bubsy can pick up black t-shirts which provide him with a shield, and any new shirts collected while the black t-shirt is equipped provide him with extra lives. The glide move is okay but the new pounce move is much more useful. You're supposed to use it to kill the Woolies and it works perfectly.

The level design is an example of pure greatness and there are many different areas (woods, desert, an alien planet, clouds, swamp, blizzard, swamp, cheese land, swamp) with extremely origina assets, so everything feels unique. The bosses are awesome - there are 69 unique bosses and you have to find an original way to defeat each one. A boring boss in a 2D platforming game like that boring game Cuphead has an extremely repetitive attack pattern you can easily memorize, but in this game the pattern randomly changes, making a unique and fun fighting experience for each boss.

Overall, the game is extremely good and never gets boring throughout the entirety of the long and fulfilling game. It shows greatness and with amazing level design and great controls. This Bubsy is the best game in history, being even better than the previous Bubsys.

With that said, this game certainly isn't the worst one I've ever played. In fact, it's way better than any of the previous Bubsy games, though that's not much of a praise considering how atrocious they were.

The story is pretty much nonexistent: Bubsy's golden fleece (really just a golden ball of yarn) gets stolen by the Woolies and Bubsy wants to get it back. Some of the very best 2D platformers ever made have a terrible plot, so this really isn't that much of a flaw. Too bad the gameplay doesn't make up for it.

The controls are just as slippery as the original Bubsy's were, though this time the game is at least playable since you don't die in one hit. Bubsy can pick up black t-shirts which provide him with a shield, and any new shirts collected while the black t-shirt is equipped provide him with extra lives. The glide move is okay but the new pounce move is pretty much useless. You're supposed to use it to kill the Woolies, but it propels Bubsy in a nice arc that completely misses enemies much like the stone in the Friday 13th NES game.

The level design is a mess and there are only 3 different areas (woods, desert, an alien planet) with heavily reused assets, so everything feels the same. The bosses are the worst - thankfully there are only 3 (and the final one can be cheesed simply by spending most of your time hanging from a climbable wall). A good boss in a 2D platforming game has a well-telegraphed attack pattern you can memorize, but in this game the pattern randomly changes and you get killed repeatedly.

Overall, the game is extremely short, kind of boring and cheap in presentation. It shows potential and with a better level design and tighter controls, Bubsy could actually be quite good. It's definitely not there yet. Only get it if you're really curious, and don't pay more than $10 for it.

In general, this game wasn;t as horrible as it could have been. In general, this game lacks substance, there wasn't a lot besides a giant annoying collect-a-thon for yarns of each level, and it really wasn't fun for so long. I feel like the devs didn't put a lot of effort in this game. You can really beat this game in under 2 hours if you didn't care to pointlessly collect the yarnballs.

Game's ok. Not recommended for anyone looking for a good platformer, but it's not bad either. It is very short, and there's not much more to do other than collect yarn and kill enemies, but there's still some enjoyment.

The people at Black Forest Games are no strangers to reviving long dormant platforming franchises with a less then stellar reputation. Just look at what they did with the Giana Sisters. So who better to resurrect Bubsy? While they succeeded in giving him his best game, the series is just as bad as ever.

The first thing that becomes noticeable is how few one-liners the bobcat has. I heard everything he had to say by the time I reached the second level. As a result I quickly made use of the option in the menus to decrease the amount of talking he did. Given that the characters personality is supposed to be such a big part of the experience, shouldn't they have tried harder at giving him more dialog?

It is not hard to see why they thought it might have been a possibility to get away with the verbal repetition. There is remarkably little content in the game. There are fourteen levels in total including the tutorial and boss stages. While there are collectible yarn balls and T-shirts throughout, there isn't enough here to justify the $30 price tag. Perhaps this would have been better off as a $10 downloadable game. Even then it wouldn't have been good.

Serviceable platforming and tight controls make this much more playable than any of the previous Bubsy titles, but the shoddy hit detection and frustrating boss fights bring things down. Your pounce move is completely useless for anything other than breaking through certain walls. Even the simple act of jumping on the enemies heads is unreliable. This partly due to the hit detection issues, and partly due to the weird physical design of the enemies themselves. This can be especially annoying when jumping on enemies is necessary as a part of a platforming challenge to reach a collectible.

When all is said and done, I think it's safe to say that Bubsy can be retired again. The time wasn't taken to make this a truly memorable comeback. If anything the lack of wit and variety in the one-liners and the poor gameplay are a reminder of why some series should just stay dead. Maybe someone will come along again in the next 20 years or so and finally do Bubsy right. Until then, I don't think he should be showing his face around these parts anymore.

Bubsy: The Woolies Strike Back is a mess. Bad controls, uninspired enemy and level design, and a total lack of motivation to keep playing. I want to find something nice to say about it, but even the three boss fights are tedious, confusing slogs. The game ends with a promise that Bubsy will return in another installment, but it feels more like a threat.
