Bubsy: The Woolies Strike Back may not be perfect, but it’s easily the best Bubsy game ever made.

Bubsy is a cat-out-of-time trying to find his fit in a world that’s memories of him haven’t been too endearing. Bubsy: The Woolies Strike Back is a moderately enjoyable game, but it just out of place within it’s current price bracket. Aside from the price, there are moments where Bubsy’s commentary feels rather forced (occasionally annoying), but other times he delivers one-liners that made me chuckle. It feels like Bubsy is trying too hard to be Deadpool-esque in relevancy and self-awareness.

There really isn’t much to say about this new Bubsy that can persuade the haters out there. It’s a simple, underwhelming platformer with a goofy plot and mediocre challenge. Many of the problems that plagued the past Bubsy games have been fixed or completely removed, at least making this new game playable, but that’s the only new thing really presented here. It’s fun in small doses, but gets boring with longer play sessions. I’m still puzzled as to why anyone thought Bubsy needed to make a comeback as no one really missed him. It’s not as bad as I originally thought it would be, but it’s nothing new at the same time. Give it a try if your curious, you might like it. Just be thankful they didn’t try to remake Bubsy 3D.

Bubsy: The Woolies Strike Back underwhelms and disappoints at every turn. Bland level design never improves, and tedious boss battles are unrewarding and unsatisfying. Bubsy's return 21 years later could have reminded us why he was once considered a potential peer to the likes of Mario and Sonic. Instead, The Woolies Strike Back only serves to remind us why the mascot hasn't seen a new adventure in over two decades.

Bubsy as a character has very little to offer and the gameplay – despite looking nice – is repetitive.

Bubsy: The Woolies Strike Back has a degree of retro appeal and may even stir up fond memories if you were around for Bubsy’s first outing. But it’s so unremarkable that it never really manages to get its claws into you.

Not the best return of an old fashioned character. Bubsy: The Woolies Strike Back is repetitive, simple and boring... A Shame.

Bubsy: The Woolies Strikes Back is thankfully only about an hour long so we can go back to forgetting Bubsy exists.

It beautifully crafts a deep narative to rival the Kingdom Hearts franchise with an orchestral soundtrack that brought tears to my eyes as I listened in awe. It’s presentation can only be embraced with a Ps4 pro, in which it’s 144p resolution can run at 3 frames per second instead of the usual -2. In the future, I hope they make minecraft skin packs for this game aswel as furry costumes XD. Overall this is the reincarnation of lord himself and is a punishment for the sins of my father, Rest in Peace Suzy.

10/5- A solid entry into the Roblox franchise, thank you Bethesda for this great game.

The humour is extremely subtle, and without a solid grasp of theoretical physics most of the jokes will go over a typical viewer’s head. There’s also Bubsy’s nihilistic outlook, which is deftly woven into his characterisation- his personal philosophy draws heavily from Narodnaya Volya literature, for instance. The fans understand this stuff; they have the intellectual capacity to truly appreciate the depths of these jokes, to realise that they’re not just funny- they say something deep about LIFE. As a consequence people who dislike Bubsy truly ARE idiots- of course they wouldn’t appreciate, for instance, the humour in Bubsy’s existential catchphrase “Wubba Lubba Dub Dub,” which itself is a cryptic reference to Turgenev’s Russian epic Fathers and Sons. I’m smirking right now just imagining one of those addlepated simpletons scratching their heads in confusion as Dan Harmon’s genius wit unfolds itself on their television screens. What fools.. how I pity them. Full Review »
