Overall gameplay, concept is fun - especially on first levels but clunky controls, bugs and framerate drop dramatically score making this game sometimes unplayable. I would not dismiss it if you like oldschool games however I would recommend to wait a while for the Dev team to FIX BUGS!

So much potential! This game can be so much fun to play with friends but the consent crashes and bugs make it more hassle then its worth. If they fixed all the problems then Its worth a play but as of right now, avoid it.

Really good premise, but it runs shockingly on ps4. At the start of every level, your character pauses for two seconds mid walking, on the later stages this means you can't get out the way of airstrikes.

The novelty of the game wore off pretty quickly and some of the characters are useless or rehashed versions of others.

Glad I didn't pay for it

This got voted up over Assault Android Cactus?

The frame rate in this game is unbelievable. There are times when the FPS drops to single digits, what's the deal?!

Game play is basic, but it's unplayable for most levels when the action gets intense.
    At least it was free.

Fun game for a few minutes, but repetitive and unrewarding experience does not make this slightly broken game fun.

Character choices were well done, and some were fun to play with, but the randomness of which character to play as is unwarranted and not fun. Blood splatter, sounds, and music were well done but overall the game needs more development time before being released to Sony

I like the Super Nintendo-ish style, but why is it so laggy? The FPS drops all the time, and it's infuriating for such a seemingly simple and non-graphically demanding game. The controls lock up for a few seconds after you spawn as well, leaving you vulnerable to enemies. I have no clue why this wasn't spotted and sorted out, as it's probably the most maddening thing about the whole experience, and the load times can be atrocious too. if you can see past all of that, you'll have a surprisingly entertaining game on your hands to occupy you for a little while. You should grab it while it's free with PS Plus, but if you can't and the game's been fixed by the time you're reading this, I'd say it's worth your 15 bucks. Expand

Broforce does have this capability, do not misunderstand; the problem here is that the online-play is flawed at best.

At first the online worked flawlessly, then when we got about 30% through the game it started spazzing out, reviving each other but it failing to actually revive, thus wasting the limited amount of lives you are given; input lag crippling the experience the whole way. I would like to confirm that this is not an internet problem on our end, we immediately played Smite and SFV to test and both worked completely fine.

Another huge problem that happens both online and off (and this is common, not just me) is that at the beginning of the level the game won't receive your inputs for the first few seconds, however the game keeps going on, obviously this leads to a lot of BS deaths, which wouldn't be horrible if the loading screens weren't unnecessarily long.

Overall the game would be decent for a single-player experience, if a bit short, but as an online experience this game is severely lacking as of right now, if the dev team fixes it's issues the game would be a solid 8/10.

Bring some friends along thanks to the wonderful inclusion of drop-in, drop-out co-op and it's not hard to see why this game is a very satisfying and fun dose of violent action.

It's a pretty straightforward experience. The majority of the levels are just here to let indulge in the chaos you can create. That being said it's not afraid to up the difficulty from time to time. The massive bosses can provide some satisfying challenges.

What really sets "BROFORCE" apart from the pack are the Bros themselves. Not only do each of them have their own abilities that make them unique, they're all amusing parodies of action heroes from the 80's and 90's (all with "bro" placed into their name somehow). It's got a pretty great sense of humor and style. The pixelated graphics are decidedly old school.

There's a retro appeal to the gameplay that's sweetened by modern flourishes and the action is very tight. Your characters are surprisingly mortal. Apparently all of those muscles and machismo don't keep them from dying in one hit. Luckily you can "rescue" more bros in the levels. That way when one goes down there's another to take their place. This system allows players to be able to try them all out over the course of the game as they are unlocked. You never know which one you are going to rescue. This random nature means that your strategy is constantly changing based on which bro you get. You'll have to make use of their unique abilities on the fly.

It's an all around excellent game, but unfortunately some technical issues are around. Thankfully they aren't that bad. Long load times and slow down occur in the later, more populated levels. I also encountered a particularly strange issue where the controls would just freeze up for a second in the middle of playing. It never ruined my game, but experiencing light halts like that did occasionally lead to a frustrating death as the enemies didn't freeze up when my character did.

Luckily none of these issues detract much from what is otherwise a stellar game. It's a blast whether you're playing solo or cooperatively. It's explosive, crazy action is exciting and addictive. With extra modes and difficulties to keep you busy after your first playthrough there's enough bang for your buck here to make it worth the purchase. The sense of humor and absurd style are just icing on the blood-soaked cake.

    I give the game a 9.2/10

This is the PS4 release review.

BroForce is an American squad overloaded with power and testosterone. If theres a problem, these guys solve it. Like your classic 80's action movie, this games about bullets, not words. So don't expect to shed a tear during a bromance.

From Rambro to Indiana Brones you'll play as many of the countless American action heroes you know and love. Each one of these hilarious characters comes with there own weapon and special technique.
Upon death or rescuing a POW, you are automatically replaced with another random bro. This can sometimes be annoying if you really want to use a specific bro, but on the flip side, there isn't really a bad bro to use. They all feel really powerful in their own way and constantly switching seems to keep the game fresh. At least for a little while.
Sadly, all missions feel the same and begin to get repetitive. Drop in by chopper, burn, shoot and kersplode everything you see, get back in the chopper. Repeat. Though its very entertaining to do so for a while it eventually feels like a re-run of an 80's flick.
What this game really lacks however, is any in-game information. It feels very bare bones. There is no list of locked or unlocked characters. No character or enemy database. No leaderboards (as far as I've seen on the ps4 version). No ability to replay past levels. Its empty. I wanted to see if i could speed-run levels and although i probably could, it isn't really tailored in a helpful way to do so.

The soundtrack for BroForce is exactly what you would expect. Heavy percussion and power metal. This is very well done and never seems to get monotonous.
As for the effects, everything sounds superb. From missiles spinning through the air, to grenades, shotguns and bodies being pulverized into mush, Broforce delivers and it felt really good to hear the power in everything.

Visually, there isn't anything wrong with pixelated game graphics. Its an art of its own these days, and BroForce pulls it off really well. Its colorful and diverse. Its clean cut and you know exactly what you are seeing. Its quite a beautiful thing to watch ten torched bodies fall out of an enemy base only to be exploded into a red gum or splat on the floor three decks below.
Sometimes though, there is a LOT going on. Too much even. It gets a bit crowded causing deaths because you just can't find your bro in the heat of the moment or the frame-rate drops just enough to take your focus. This is especially true in Multiplayer, which is great fun with all the dismemberment and kabooms but ... Wow.

Overall: If you're looking for a game to sit around for an hour or two and blow stuff up or send enemies flying into a bloody puke ball (with friends or solo), this is your game. Don't expect to stay up all night causing mayhem on this one though. BroForce seems to lose its charm a bit too quickly.

    6.5 / 10

    Pros: Cons:
    Explosive Repetitive
    Funny Lacks features / content
    Sound Frame-rate and freezing issues
    Pixel-gore!

Love this game on PC but the PS4 version (as of March 3rd 2016) has a lot of bugs such as the control dropping out on your controller at the start of a level/respawn, gameplay slowing to a crawl with too much animation on screen at once (possibly due to the Unity engine) and very long load times after completing 54% of the game (black screen for a really long time). And while I'm confident these will be patched and fixed eventually, the game is fairly short. So why such a high rating? Well, you see, I'm a sucker for 80's action films and Broforce pays homage to these and retro games in spades. It's seriously just a blast to play no matter how challenging it gets the frenetic craziness of explosions is so much fun. The downside is that it's not an extremely long game but I would expect them to add more levels in the future either paid or via DLC. Since the PC version includes a map editor there isn't quite as much to the PS4 version and it's pretty light on the trophies.

So please, young game developers who clearly didn't live in the 80's stop thinking you have the right to poorly imitate a beautiful art style from the days of early Nintendo and Sega.

Broforce is dull. Within 20 minutes I was seriously bored and wanted to turn the game off. Its uninspiring moronic nonsense designed for fake alpha males who actually believe the crappy Chuck Norris memes.
Yes when I was a kid Arnie movies were cool, so was Robocop and Rambo etc, but never did any child of the 80's wish for a rubbish pixel art game 20 years in the future that monotonously recycles the same puns all the way through the game as if that makes it trendy.

The game-play is boring, the sound terrible, the controls stiff, the level design laughable and graphics pitiful.

You basically shoot a few bad guys, rescue a few bro's, forcing you to play as characters you don't want to play with, get to the end of the level and repeat. The whole thing is a chore. I uninstalled after 20 mins and went back to waiting for Dark Souls 3.

Please Sony, give us some decent ps+ games next month and please don't do vote to play again. Its clear the majority of fans are moronic teenage hipsters who wish they were part of my generation but completely misunderstand what it was like in the 80s and 90s. If you want retro buy a NES!!!

In conclusion, utterly awful game. At least it was free because if I'd paid for this experience I'd probably be on a murder charge as it would likely have driven me to find the developer and insert a physical copy up his ass where it belongs causing him to suffer a horrible death from not been able to crap for 3 weeks!

They need to put out a sequel asap. Minor tweeks could make this game stand out dramatically. In one word definitively a good game to play specially with friends , try it when youre 4 at the same time and it explodes everywhere !

At first glance Broforce may look like a basic side-scroller built on a one-note joke, but there's a lot more depth to the game than that, both in terms of gameplay and humor.

A charming, uncommonly smart spiritual sibling to Contra, full of awesomely crafted homages to action cinema, but troubled on PS4 by a few bugs I'd like to nuke from Orbit. [May 2016, p.95]

Despite some technical issues and minor frustrations, this parody of American patriotism and action hero stereotypes offers a hell of a lot of destructive fun. [Issue#268, p.74]
