In terms of story, the thing is that you have to conquer the lore piece by piece trough the game: read the items descriptions and pay very attention to the dialogues, check out the community's theories. Its very open to interpretation but is great.

The game has a difficulty level slighly above the average, but its rewarding and challeging, not frustrating.

I'm really excited know to play the Soul's series.

The only complaints that i have about Bloodborne is the long load time every time you die (about 40 sec sometimes) and the frame rate drops in some areas or when doing coop.

Because of this technical problems, my rate for it would be 9.5.

But once FromSoftware has promised to fix this issues at the present month, and due to a lot a people being really unfair to this game here, the final rate is going to be a solid 10.

Even some of the sound effects such as climbing ladders are the same exact sound texture used in Dark Souls games. The mechanics feel almost the exact same as the Souls series except they took away the shield, putting an even greater emphasis on positioning and dodging when dealing with enemies as well as adding the trick weapons instead of allowing the player to two hand weapons. In addition by adding a firearm they made a more practical riposte technique than with the poor reach of shields in Souls games. Some of my only complaints are that some of the stats are definitely more useful than others and they dumbed down some of the stat factors such as item weight and player encumberance as well as removing any type of spells like they used to have in the Souls series. In addition there is a lack of variety when it comes to the depth of items or bosses, the game takes awhile in terms of hours for your first NG because the game is not linear and doesn't always require killing bosses in a set order and the world is large and the way to continue is not always obvious. But in terms of number of bosses and variety of weapons and armor, the Souls series outshines Bloodborne in those aspects. The visual appeal of the world in Bloodborne however, are absolutely stunning. The storytelling elements in Bloodborne are identical to that in the Souls series as well, with loose cutscenes, minimal npc dialogue and interaction, and many details about the world being revealed through optional side conversations with npcs found in the universe. In addition much of what you know about the world comes from items, as well as some found additionally from the safety of the Hunter's Dream. The addition of challenge dungeons was a great idea for extending gameplay.

To sum it up, I love this game, it is a must-buy, but that being said I KNOW from software can do better! More depth!!

When I finished this game for the first time, I got up of my chair and started applauding. The art direction is outstanding, the atmosphere, the creatures, the music everything, is beautiful. The trick weapons with nice varieties of combos, the epic boss battles, well I couldn't do nothing but recommend Bloodborne, it's definitively a masterpiece.

Hardcore Action RPG with unique atmosphere and spectacular visual design. A must-buy for all PS4 non-casual players. A bit easier to dive into comparing to previous From games (I mean Souls series), but still unforgiving.

Even as a "Souls veteran", having beat both DeS, Dark and Dark Souls 2 at least once before, I went into Bloodborne quite excited but fearing it might be slightly forgettable since I've played so many of these games now.

On the contrary, Bloodborne did everything that needed to be done, in order to take the Souls format a step further while avoiding it becoming stale.

There are a few noticeable negatives and I have to point those out if you're on the fence. These are things that might throw put off some people completely, while others may see them as improvements:

    1) Total amount of items is overall quite less than in just about any other Souls game. There are still lots of unique items to find though.
    2) There is a shield, but there is no way you're gonna make a satisfying build out of it.
    3) Online PvE and PvP matchmaking systems are not as solid
    4) NPC stuff and covenants are there but there's certainly less of it.

...but while these things by themselves disappointed me, it's the entire experience as a whole that I feel is completely on par with any other Souls game.

In my opinion, Demon's Souls has the best story and atmosphere, Dark Souls has a more cohesive feel to it while retaining a good lore and plot, Dark Souls 2 lacks the great story or plot (but wasn't totally lackluster!) but made up for it in its sheer amount of content. Bloodborne feels like it has most of those elements in there as well and manages to stand out as a unique, memorable and fully valid game compared to the rest in its own right.

The big draw for me, is its visceral combat and mindblowing lore... and I say that, because I feel like the game has a great but simple appeal on its surface but once you get halfway through the campaign you realize there's much, much more to the lore than you might have ever expected, and it doesn't reuse too much from Souls at all.

But enough about me trying to sell this game for you. If you want a game you can keep playing for anywhere between 40-100 hours on your PS4 and have 60$ to spare? Bloodborne is the **** and among my collection of TLoU Remastered, Dragon Age, Destiny etc. Bloodborne is the first PS4 title that I feel really makes my purchase of the console worthwhile in the best possible way.

    3) *little spoiler* in ds2 you can choose when to go to the ng+, here you can't. it's stupid in my opinion.

    4) magic: why i can understand the 'magic is op' bandwagon, i think magic was a nice part of demon/dark..it add some deep to the fight, and i really miss my hexer in bb ^.^

    5) customization: i really miss the possibility to respec like in ds2, the weapon enchant with fire, dark, ecc ecc and the possibility to go with two weapon.

in conclusion this game is good, but not perfect.

Bloodborne is an actual "game" that is not trying to squeeze a single extra penny out of you besides your original purchase price. Bloodborne is hard but you will find ways to overcome the intelligent (that's right "intelligent" not cheap) difficulty as you gradually become more familiar with the world and if you are fooled into listening to people who complaining about how unfairly tough and boring it is then they are simply rushing through it. This is not the type of game where you can get away with mindless behavior and if you don't pay attention to the surroundings then you are not experiencing it's lore.

The game is not perfect, it has one or two minor framerate dips in an early area that I've noticed and after that I didn't see any more. There are other insignificant technical flaws that I wish they had taken the time to polish up but it is by no means something that affects the game's experience unacceptably. If From Software with Miyazaki ( Demon's Souls and Dark Souls 1 director) and Sony had asked for just another month before releasing the game to take care of these aforementioned bugs then Bloodborne would have been close to a perfect game in it's own realm.

That's a given. However, there's nothing more joyful than finally defeating that boss that's killed you about 25 times. This game has made me feel so happy about myself just for surviving about 20 minutes on my own. It's the first game in years, in which I've actually cheered for myself after defeating a boss. Combat requires you be more offensive, as it rewards you majorly with the new "regain system". The way this system works is that you get hit, you lose a portion of your life, but that portion of your life is shown in a faded colour in the life-bar. You have a few seconds to get that life back by hitting the enemy as many times as you can. Guns aren't used for ranged attacks either *cue gasp* But instead, it's used as a defensive weapon, made for riposte and countering enemy attacks. That's a great idea, actually, as there's nothing more satisfying than staggering an enemy, and using a "visceral attack" on them. Visceral Attacks are just executions caused by countering, and give major critical damage. They can be used against bosses, at very high risk, but has to be done at least 6-7 times to them. This game does not hold your hand, and barely gives off any sort of story until the end.

Get this game at full price if you can. Just get it, you won't regret it.

This is an enjoyable game to play through. There's no doubting that. However, as an avid fan of the souls series and Miyazakis previous efforts, Bloodborne has found me wanting.

Although it still includes the usual fantastic atmosphere, combat and general gameplay, that make a first playthrough completely compelling, so many of the mechanisms and underlying schematics of what made the souls games great and would keep players coming back for hundreds of hours more, have been totally stripped away.

An excellent game to play through - took me about 60 hours to see just about everything from beginning to end credits.

Multi-player is weak - a lack of options in character builds, weapons and armour and severely stripped down covenants - not to mention severs that currently appear to be bordering on breaking point .

The chalice dungeons are boring as hell and the matchmaking system, for what I had understood to be "coop areas", is non - existent.

Play the game -it gets a hell of a lot right. But the systems from previous souls games that had so much potential (if never quite reached the dizzying heights they promised) have been completely quashed. - That unfortunately, has left very little replay value.

Grant it that you will find a lot of armor that tells you lore and backgrounds, but in the term of proficiency, if you don't look hard enough, you'll probably be stuck with the Hunter set until the Ash set. I believe the same idea goes for weapons. This game is DIFFICULT! It can be agitating, but with the right amount of discovery, grinding, and farming for Blood Vials and QS Bullets, you'll be fine. The graphics are, of course, amazing! But what else do you really expect from a new generation console? The details in the graphics is what really sets it apart from a ton of other games! Framerate is not a big issue unless your'e running and slaying enemies like a mad hunter! Overall it is an amazing game with an odd story the player has to really listen to to know exactly whats going on. My true only problem is, a little too difficult and not enough stuff! Expand

Imagine a world filled with oppression , punishment , horrifying sights and sounds . Mixed within is a strange beauty . Make no mistake bloodborne is beautiful . This world entices you and sucks you in completely . The combat at first seemed unsatisfying but once you get the hang of it is fantastic . Enemies in this game are some of the best designed I have ever seen . From the attacks they perform to the sheer variety .

Bloodborne will not hold your hand and will teach you very little . It pretty much leaves you to your own devices . In the early hours it helps to grind a little bit and level up your chrachter . I've encounterd three bosses so far . When you fell these bosses you feel a sense of both accomplishment and relief . There is no question that bloodborne is for the hardcore gamer . You pretty much aren't safe anywhere except locations marked by lanterns which transport you to hunters dream ( similar to souls bonfires ) .

Is this better than dark souls ?. I do not know and those who claim to know are fools . Is the influence of Dark Souls present absolutely . However albeit with an entirely different ambience and setting . Parts of bloodborne will unsettle you . It is my opinion the game should come with a warning label as it features plenty of tense moments .

This is a difficult game . It was designed that way and from knows their audience very well . The art design and sound are fantastic . There are a wealth of options when creating your chrachter . Tons of weapons to equip and side quests . When you encounter a friendly npc who wishes to help you it can be an awe inspiring and memorable moment .

This game is packed to the brim with content and features a new game plus option as well . The influence of some of the best games ever are felt here and bloodborne seeks to go beyond them . How you approach many situations is up to you . There is a whole lot to explore here .

One can't help but think of The Divine Comedy when playing bloodborne . The tone , the sights , the atmosphere it's all very unsettling . Yet oddly beautiful . The architecture and how it all connects is absolutely some of the best level design I have ever seen . Much like The Divine Comedy bloodborne will be considered a masterpiece . A tapestry of excellence interwoven with an outstanding about of effort and it shows . Bloodborne a macabre masterpiece a truly harrowing achievement . In my humble opinion it is the crown jewel of the from software collection . While writing this review all I could think of was playing again an extremely rare occurrence from me .

If you have the will , the fortitude and a ps4 you need to pick this up . As it truly is one of those sprawling epic pieces of art that only appear once in a blue moon . Bloodborne is both a love letter to survival horror and the RPG . When you combine those two things with the talent at from you get bloodborne and man am I glad I got it .

The game is obviously difficult but that's what people come to expect from these games, and like many others, I welcome the difficulty and challenge. There are also a few people saying the game has bad controls, which is complete nonsense.. The controls are perfect, and are pretty much the exact same mechanics as the souls series.

This is an incredible game, however only specific gamers will appreciate it. The game is incredibly hard and demands a steep investment of game time in order to beat it (~40-60 hours).
So if you don't like very hard games that demand a lot of repetition and time, skip it. If you're open to it, you'll find an incredible game that's just a game of the year contender.

The world is atmospheric and organic, with locations seamlessly blending into one another; and the combat is faster and tighter, with greater variety afforded by dynamically transforming weapons. Powered by PS4, every aspect of the game seems nuanced when compared to previous Souls games, in many ways more streamlined and accessible. However my personal misgivings stem from the relative lack of equipment to discover in the open world, and drought of random enemy drops. There appears to be fewer weapons available than before - perhaps due to the versatility of each's transformations - so instead the tactic here is to become familiar with one or two favourites. Some say less is more, and may consider this a good thing, IMO without potential drops the game is missing one of my personal incentives to push ever onward or keep grinding an area.
If you're familiar with Dark Souls you know exactly what to expect here, I don't think refinements to combat and co-op qualify as revolutionary design. Shields may be out and firearms may be in, but you still riposte following a timed tap of the left trigger, and you can still be kept waiting for a response to your desperate pleas for assistance. From Software and riding high on an increased budget and the hopes and prayers of Sony, but I'm not convinced this is the game to save PS4, and I'm certain PS4 doesn't NEED saving anyway.

This is the spiritual successor to the Dark Souls series and an exclusive to the PS4. It's got all the classic Dark Souls stylings and, for newcomers to the Dark Souls series like myself, it was an excellent and fully challenging game. You're going to get alot of difficult monsters and bosses in this game to face and, being paired with a wonderful control system and musical score, really makes this game jump off the screen at times. This could easily pass as a horror game too as there are tons of moments that'll make you recoil or get a jump out of you.
However, the biggest problem with the game is the horrible framerate problems that plague the game. Things pop in out of nowhere alot of times, there were multiple instances of lag in spawning in new enemies for me, and porting in from the main hub area easily took about 1-2 mins everytime I did it, and with how much you die in this game, you'll be seeing that screen alot. Sony has promised a patch to fix these issues but that has not surfaced just yet. Until that patch is sent out, while the game is playable and fun, it won't be able to live up to the expectations it sets. The other issue is the story and the fact that there are very few words spoken in the story explaining what is actually happening. You can piece it together as you go through but it would have been nice to see some explanation of what was going on at some point.
If I could give this game a 9.5 or a 9.8 out of 10 I would. But with it's current issues, I cannot round up the score. Until that framerate issue is settled, I cannot in good judgment give this a 10. Even though it's easily the best PS4 exclusive and will keep you entertained for days on end, I have to give it a 9 with the reservation that I can bump it up to a 10 when the framerate issue is settled.

However this game weeds out the faint-hearted and all casual-gamers without remorse. So if you ever consider purchasing this game you should know what kind of gamer you are before buying it ;P

The story is very abstract and dark, so don't expect a plot from a mainstream hollywood film. For some people it may look like this game has no storyline at all and may seem like poorly directed and designed game. But if there is one sure thing is that the background story is surprisingly deep, but only if players are willing to read, a lot. Every item in this game has a lore which gives you more insight about the game. If someone wants to describe this game in a proverb then it would be: 'There is more than meets the eye'. There are so many optional or secret passages, items and even most of the bosses are optional which are easily missable. This game is mysterious, dark and doesn't forgive any mistakes, so any daring player should man up. We are born of the blood, made men by the blood, undone by the blood. Our eyes are yet to open...Fear the old blood.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Bloodborne is a game made by From Software that is equal RPG, Action and Horror that will pitch you against monstrous beasts and otherworldly creatures while you uncover the secrets of Yharnam, home of the Healing Church, and the miraculous Healing Blood.

    Warning, Possible Minor Spoilers!

Bloodborne starts off very similarly to the previous games made by From Software in recent times. In particularly the Souls Series. You will find yourself waking up in an old clinic with little to no guidance on what to do except for a small cryptic message. Afterwards you will find yourself with only one way to go, which also leads you into your very first enemy. This is where one of three possible scenarios will occur.

You will either try and fight the enemy and die, run away like a wuss and probably die, or if you've played the game already or have some knowledge from beforehand you will succeed in killing your enemy. Unfortunately for those who did manage to kill this enemy, they are actually being to some degree punished for NOT dying since those who dies will actually end up with more supplies than those who didn't. A strange thing as previous titles have all rewarded those who succeed in these endeavors.

However, after this bumpy start, the game quickly picks up again as you'll be greeted by some of the best graphics the PS4 has to offer. The world of Bloodborne looks amazing in it's Victorian Gothic styled world while keeping a sense of dread at most times. The game world design is top-notch and it's character designs follow suit. You'll find a variety of enemies, all looking equally great in their own way, from infected citizens trying to help their city to the giant malformed beasts locked away in ancient tombs. All of which has a great amount of detail put into them including a disturbing amount of hair. A lot of hair. But the physics in-game makes this hair look amazing despite being in your face quite often when fighting larger beasts.

The combat in Bloodborne is a fast-paced, high risk, high reward type in which the game tries to encourage a strange mix of aggressiveness combined with being careful. The enemies you face are all deadly and easily capable of killing you if you're not careful. However. Whenever you take damage from an enemy, you can take a risk by being hyper-aggressive, and attack the enemy which will regain lost health. This can possibly end up healing all lost health, or cause you to take even more damage. This system help in keeping you on edge during new encounters and makes it highly rewarding to learn the flow of combat in Bloodborne. Adding in a good variety of various weapons which all have a secondary form makes for possibly hours just experimenting and finding the one that suits you best as they all have distinct traits and feels, with a few exceptions.

A very important part for many gamers is the story. Bloodborne has a very deep story, but never actually tells it straight out. Instead, the story is found through descriptions from various items and weapons throughout the game. This works rather well as it gives those interested in the story the possibility to learn and discover the story piece by piece as a giant puzzle while letting those uninterested in the story go without any story related hindrance. Another thing about Bloodbornes story is that it leaves some gaps in it for the player to fill using their imagination. It let's the player decide what must have happened in between some events in order to fill the gaps and create a complete picture. A small yet brilliant concept that gives every player a unique story.

However, there are no games to date that does not have it's flaws, and Bloodborne is no exception. The most noticeable flaw about Bloodborne is it's Loading Times. Bloodborne plays seamlessly with almost no breaks in-game allowing good players to play the game with almost no loading screens at all. You can walk from start to finish with only two loading screens. But a side-effect of this is that the game must load much of the game-world before you can begin which gives you lengthy loading times of up to 30 seconds depending on where you are. This becomes an issue as you will die a lot and often in Bloodborne, meaning you will have a lot of loading times.

Another issue is that Bloodborne uses an aged matchmaking system that makes online experiences a little wonky. It will also be difficult at times to even find anyone to play with as players has very little to indicate where other players are in the world. And if they are at the same place, they might not be capable of connecting due to level restrictions.

In the end, Bloodborne is a truly amazing game worthy of it's praise and we hope we'll have more to come.

    Overall.
    + Amazing Visuals
    + Solid Combat
    + Deep And Flexible Story
    + Great Player Customization
    - Horrible Loading Times
    - Wonky Online Matchmaking

    Overall rate: 9/10

    Graphics: 8/10
The surroundings in this game and the details on the characters are beatiful (if you like dark/gothic) but when you pay attention to the details of some elements in this world you can find some minor flaws.
The most critical point about this topic is the rate drop in some areas and the long loading times.

    Game play: 8/10
Game play is very smooth and dynamic. it really remains me a lot to Zelda Ocarina of Time (without the stamina restraint).
It is a little tricky a the beginning, especially if you don't read the tutorial at the clinic and hunter dream, you may have a hard time understanding.
However there are some issues with the AI of certain enemies and bosses that need to be improved, as well as more customization on weapons and attires was missing.

    Story: 10/10
Story is pretty interesting and dark. However it will not reveal to youf for itself (It really came out of any Lovecraft or Kafka's books).
You will need to discover the additional details from dark tale from the inhabitants and secret items of the Gothic land.

    Atmosphere: 10/10
Atmosphere is just amazing: the soundtrack, enemies and surroundings fill this amazing dark/Gothic world like no other game in this generation.

    Content: 9/10
This game can be replayed several times and you will keep finding new stuff and challenges (as difficulty keep increasing and there are multiple endings available).
On-line feature is also available on this game and works fine if you manage to find someone to join you on this adventure.

It's a feeling that i have not had in a long long time, probably not since since Super Metroid on snes. First off, I feel like Bloodborne in itself is a compliment to all gamers. It really shows how much From Software respects us. Sure it is very difficult and extremely punishing, but that is most of what makes it fun. They don't tell you what to do, where to go, who to kill, who not to kill, how to kill, etc. You are not spoon fed ANYTHING. You also wouldn't know the whole base of the story unless you look real hard to find explanations. I think this is because From Software developers know that gamers are a smart people and do not like to be patronized. HAha.

The best thing about Bloodborne for me is the high I get when I finally beat a boss or get past a part that I tried over and over and over again. I was somewhat lucky in the sense that I have never played any of the souls games so I had no expectations going in. However, most of the reviews I have seen from people who DO play the souls games still love it. I highly suggest this game to anyone who wants to stand outside of the box for a real challenge. DO NOT buy this game if you like mindless fps that take a day to finish. :-)

My one and only gripe, and why I gave this game a 9 instead of a ten is the time it takes to load after dying. I don't care how good you are, you are going to die A LOT. That is ok, but there is about a 1 minute loading time before you re-awaken. It doesn't sound long but if you lost a lot of blood echoes (you will understand what blood echoes are once you play the game) it feels like an eternity.

    P.S.
There will probably be a time at the beginning of the game that you think about quitting the game completely because of one part you cant get passed. This is what happened to me, but DON'T QUIT. Once you get passed the first barrier you will slowly but surely chip away little by little. The feeling of triumph you will have is incredible. Like legal heroin. HAPPY HUNTING!

on a technical standpoint, the game is beautiful with a fully-rendered 3D world littered with destructible objects. however the game is not fully optimized, heavy action situations causes frame-rate dips, the huge worlds require a 40-second loading time and the loading screen is bland...

the story is genuinely well-planned. the game does not rely on cut-scenes to tell the Lovecraftian horror story befalling the inhabitants of Yharnam, you piece it together from your interactions with the various NPCs and item descriptions...

game play wise. this game is not really THAT hard if you don't rush in. the early enemies are weak enough that you can determine your play style and then manage your stats accordingly. one complaint is that while they give you a choice of Trick weapons at the start they don't give you a blunt weapon to try out with...

on a whole, i agree with the acclaim this Action-RPG is receiving and i personally recommend this to PS4 gamer looking to challenge their meticulous and methodical side...

-Whenever you kill a boss you always feel like you accomplished something great. As if like in real life you just accomplished your dreams or you wanted to get this item or this item....whatever!
-The backgrounds in this game are stunningly beautiful and make quite awesome monitor wallpapers.
-The controls in this game are the best I have had since the time and make me feel like I was actually controlling my character.
-While the graphics may not be as great as like Mortal Kombat X or The Order it still manages to look nice.
    - The Difficulty. The difficulty shows you that games are sometimes not just a walk in the park. that you cannot simply just charge in and expect all this crap to just come to you. You need to work for it and when you do after a number of deaths and Blood vials you will be proud of yourself for finishing this game.
-Everything else that I didn't mention including the hunter's dream.
There is just one small problem about this game and sadly that is: THE LOADING SCREENS. but you can get used to them. The game has some quite tense moments and when you die or are going to wherever there needs to be a loading screen you will be annoyed but then realize the loading screens might be actually long on purpose. They are trying to give you a break and have you relax for a few moments. Also I have a tip: Don't kill any of the friendly NPCs you meet like Eileen the crow or Alexander. They have some great quest lines that you can miss by just killing these people. Bloodborne gets a 10/10 for being a Universal Acclaim

If you have a PS4, and you don't have this game already, you're nuts! I don't want to spoil anything because this game is utterly incredible, and needs to be experienced in order to really appreciate it. From Software did good on this one. This is honestly one of the best games I have ever played. It's fun, addicting, and feels rewarding when you get passed those really difficult parts you've been attempting for hours. The first thing you see in the game are its visuals. Holy crap are they good! The environments are so lively and proportionately lit that it feels almost real. The co-op in this game is also fantastic. Beckoning you friend to join your world, and help you kill the dang Blood-Starved Beast (if you've fought it, you'll know what I mean) is a cooperative experience unlike anything thing I've seen in previous games. This game deserves all the praise it's getting. Again, I implore anybody that owns a PS4 to buy this game. I guarantee that you will have zero regrets for this purchase. Expand

You'll love it or hate it.

GAMEPLAY: It's brutal. There's no good way to describe it if you're new to the series, because there are very few games like this in today's market. Fights even with basic enemies are unforgiving and you WILL die in this game. Lots of times. This is not a blind hack-and-slash; it relies a lot on gauging enemies and adapting your tactics.

Coming from Dark Souls and being a fan of blocking, the fact that you have to dodge everything and be much more conservative with your attacks led to many of my early deaths. Forget what you knew in Dark Souls, and approach this with a somewhat fresh mind.

STORY: Again, what story? From's games are notorious for being vague, and telling glimpses of the story through item descriptions and tidbits of game lore you receive. People (mis)label this as an RPG; this is NOT Final Fantasy, or Dragon Age, or anything close to what I'd consider an RPG. This is pure action.

ONLINE: The online experience is not as ingrained as it is with Dark Souls, though there are still plenty of bloodstains to laugh at. I recommend playing with the online features.

I really enjoyed how they removed shields from the game (apart from a wooden raft which is used as a shield, but it´s really feeble and won´t protect you at all), making the game way more fast paced and encourages you to take more chances, since if you get hit, you have the chance to recover some of that lost life by quickly attacking your opponent after you get hit. This adds a lot more strategy and depth to combat and keeps bloodborne separated from the darksouls/demonsouls series.

The story is really interesting, though you need to look for it, since it won´t be spoon-fed to you. If you like to run through the game (which won´t be the case, since it requires a lot of strategy and being careful) you might not even have a clue why everything is so messed up in the world, it´d be a pure gory experience, which I don´t find it bad at all, but the story adds a lot more to the game and is so rewarding finding out everything about the bloodborne universe.

Averall I personally couldn´t find anything to complain about this game. Sure loading screens where bad at the beginning, when it was launched but they fixed it with a patch. The game rarely stutters graphically now and is such a joy to keep playing it.

Rarely has a game proven me so wrong. Rarely has a game caused me to make a 180 degree change in my opinion of it. Now don't get me wrong, Bloodborne isn't for everybody. It isn't your typical 'casual' game as you really have to put your mind and skills to the test here. What really captivated me was not just the gameplay (which is integral to every game) but the atmosphere. Bloodborne feels so unique, it is a whole new experience. I can guarantee with absolute certainty that they have never played this game. They just happened to pick the other console, and can't stand a ps4 exclusive getting reviews on this level. Better to pay attention to the actual journalistic reviewers to the left who have given it a 93 out of 100. I too was frustrated with it in the very beginning (ok, the first 3 or 4 hours I played actually), but it's true what they say about it suddenly "clicking." You gain your footing in this game (I did right around the third time I fought the cleric beast) at a certain point, and then it becomes almost impossible to put the controller down. I still have a ways to go before completing it, but I can say without a shadow of a doubt, this is a brilliant world filled with extremely awesome gameplay. Nice try, "other" console fans. I knew it would be difficult, I have a friend who had been a big Souls players and he said that Bloodborne would be created by those same people. So I knew it would be difficult, but at the time I had no idea HOW difficult. This game is so different than anything I have ever played before, and that's saying something because video games have been a big part of my life for about twelve years now (I'm 18). Every enemy you come across, no matter the size or ease of killing, has the ability to kill you and send you back to your respawn lamp, something that took my by surprise when I rushed a large mob of them by a bonfire when I first started playing. At first, it was frustrating, I felt like the parrying system wasn't working, and no matter how much I dodged around I always got hit. I probably died fifteen times within the first two hours of playing, and that's a stretch.
However, once I got accustomed to the game and learned my way around the controller, the game became a challenge that I had dearly wanted for a long time. No game had ever kept me on my toes during the entire duration of gameplay. I don't mind the long distance between checkpoints, because there are shortcuts you can open up between you and the boss and other areas of a map, and that is what is intended for you to do before you take on the boss, so you can get back to it with relative ease. Each area holds something new and deadly, and I am both surprised and delighted at the expanse many of the maps have. Truly, the only reason I don't give this game a fll 10/10 is indeed because of the level of butthurt I do sometimes acquire while playing this game. But it's the good kind of butthurt (usually). This game is a gem, and should be purchased by anyone who is looking for a real challenge in their gaming time.

40+ hours in and on my ng+ and i can tell you this game meets all expectations. it may not be for everyone, but it's amazing nonetheless. it's an experience you won't find anywhere else on any system! a must-buy if you prefer a do-able challenge that doesn't treat you like an infant, but rather a capable gamer. splendid job, Fromsoftware!

Bloodborne mixes things up with the Regain system and an emphasis on more aggressive combat than the Souls titles. This gives Bloodborne its own identity. A dizzyingly brutal ballet of blood, gore and death, which rewards the persistent with an experience which few other titles can match.

The single point has been deducted for terrible load times and a frame-rate which dips on occasion. Both of these issues can be fixed with a patch and don't detract from the fact that this is an excellent title, and the first real reason to purchase a PS4. Essential.

Ok. Lets be honest. This game is not perfect. It has one of the worst tutorials (it is not showing you how to play that game, but showing you that you are not able to play this game). The story itself is pretty hidden somewhere deep in item descriptions and most of the time you are just guessing why are you killing everyone. (I really doubt normal players will understand the story without reading theories on the internet) And fighting system feels little bit strange. Especially because how the hitboxes works. There is basically no physical hit detection. Luckily it does not mean you will get hit even when you see enemy miss. But your enemy will miss you many time when he is directly hitting you or stopmping you (specially bosses). This feels very last gen, it is not intuitive (you must learn, than when you are rolling you are safe even if you get direct hit, etc.) and gets some time to get used to.

So why gieve it a 10/10? Simple. Despite all these shortcomings, the game is amazing fun to play. Gameplay is solid. Leveldesign is the best I have ever seen (not just art style, but the layout full of shortcurst and branching paths = nonlinear progress) and it is just delight to explore them. The lenght is higly above todays average. You will spent maybe more that 30 hours of concentrated fun (there are no blank filler parts. every room presents some kind of fun and challenge).

And the difficulty. It is not so bad. As I mentioned the tutorial is bad. So at the beggining you will think "this game is impossible to play". But when you learn it a little bit (dont be afraid of multiplayer!!!), it can be actually become too easy.

Bllodborne is definetlly not a perfect flawless gem. But it is definetly a must buy and will provide you huge amount of entertainment.

My only experience with souls games before this was Dark Souls, which I was extremely addicted to; it simply just does SO much that other games don't, story hidden in plain sight (not stuffed into your face with monologues), compelling and engaging combat and so much more. I thus preordered Bloodborne, and I am currently going through the game for the 3rd time with the same character. In short Bloodborne is: one of the most interesting and different stories you'll find in games, the best and most satisfying combat-system, level-design that warrants its own masterclass-course, a game that RESPECTS your ability to figure out problems (bosses) with an arsenal of different tools = BUY IT! I've never played any of the Souls series before as I was always being put off by reports of the punishing difficulty, also I always thought the combat looked slow and boring and the fantasy setting looked rather generic. So, it was with trepidation that I picked this up on release. I'm very happy to say that it was worth every penny. I've read some of the negative reviews on here and frankly, those guys simply aren't good enough. Neither was I, at first...

I died a lot initially, getting a little further each time, then when I was comfortable I could do the first bit without losing too much damage, I just repeated it, returning to the save lamp each time to level up my character and buy armor and health vials. I did this for an hour or so and then I ventured even further and encountered a giant troll with a house-brick. He beat me to death with said house-brick and I came back and destroyed him, a few of his friends on the stairs with their attack dogs, and was feeling pretty good about myself until I was mamed to death by the two werewolves up on the bridge. By this point, I was hooked.

The game does get frustrating, but that's a stick-over-carrot way of forcing you to improve, it also ramps up the tension knowing that you could die at any moment due to either overwhelming odds, or your own carelessness. This gives it a sense of horror and foreboding that you don't even get in most actual survival-horror games these days. The game is beautiful, some great graphics (not "the Order:1886" great, but still very impressive,) and an excellent gothic/horror art style, which was what drew me to the game in the first place. It's a shame the frame-rate tends to drop when there's a lot going on - it's not game-breaking but it is noticeable. And of course, the game does have an infamous amount of loading, about 40 seconds each time you die or warp to a new area, but it's not anywhere near as bad as I thought it would be (usually, you need the break after you've just died to catch your breath anyway...)

The monster design is exquisite and the game-play is incredibly gratifying, making hunting monsters an exciting, satisfying experience. And each boss you kill, weather on the first or tenth attempt, brings a sense of achievement that's very rare in modern video-games. If you get lost, use a walkthrough as there are lots of areas that are well hidden. If you're dying a lot, get better or quit. There is no "easy" mode. But if the game gets its claws into you before you quit, there's no gaming experience quite like it.

This is purely my opinion of the game so please do not consider it the end all be all of what everyone else should hold this game to. Being a fan of From Software since the Kings Field days I have to say this game ranks as one of my favorites from the developers. The graphics are very nice, the sounds add to the atmosphere of this gorgeous looking game. The gameplay is extremely fun and addicting to say the least. The story elements are a little lacking compared to the souls series but it's still enough to formulate your own story and add to the theories of other players. The difficulty is just as punishing and infuriating as any other game that From Software has released but it is quite refreshing to see the devs make the change to a more aggressive stance in the combat flow.

The Graphics: The game is beautiful. The city of Yarnahm is dark and gritty. Similar to Lovecraftian design and it adds to the horror setting of this game. The enemy design is twisted and intense.

The sound: Just as stated above. Each smash of a large enemy is satisfying, the sword clashing is sharp and loud, the gunshots make your weapon feel fierce and deadly.

Story: Just as any From Software game that has been released in the past... It's there for those who look for it (for those who don't care about story every cinematic is skippable). The lore is contained within the items, dialogue, and cutscenes but you'll have to dig to understand it. It also leaves enough room for your own interpretation of events which is refreshing compared to games that spit out movie esque cliches or standard drama storylines.

Combat: It's visceral and punishing. Make the wrong play and you're dead. Simple and sweet.

Overall the game is a pleasure to play in a generation of exhausted ideas and general standards. The difficulty is great and rewards those who push through to the end. The Chalice dungeons could use some work but for the most part the main campaign and PvP aspects are a blast and make up for it until future patches fix the issues that made it past the testing phases of the game.

For those interested in co-op and PvP, these aspects of the game work fine (when they decide to work) and hopefully the developers will fix these issues over time. As with all games, although this does not excuse broken products on release day, every game has its fair share of problems but with time and dedication from the devs we will hopefully see a game worthy of a 10/10. For now I leave it at a 9 because everything else works fine and is satisfying for me and many of my friends who also play the game.

Best game of the new generation consoles. Hard at first, but once you get past the 1st shortcut/boss the game opens up in amazing ways.

So funny to read the troll reviews: one person gave it a "zerO' so I lookd at his other reviews: every game and movie he "reviewed" got a "zero" except American Sniper, which he gave a "ten". perfct ewxzmple of why metacritic user reviews are a joke

Brutally difficult is a good way to describe the challenge imposed by this title, it is a From Software title, after all. I've played each game starting with "Demons Souls" and while "Dark Souls 2" was slightly less challenging than the truly difficult "Dark Souls" that trend is reversed with "Bloodborne". I really enjoy a lot of the changes- the setting being first and foremost. I really enjoy a lot of the changes- the setting being first and foremost. This is a Gothic title with a setting similar to "Dracula" the novel- Victorian, dark, dingy but also beautifully rendered.

The Souls games were always some of the sharpest looking on PS3 and "Bloodborne" continues this trend on PS4. The combat is faster and more fluid which at first is very challenging even for vets (the lack of good shields ramps up the difficulty curve greatly) but the ability to dodge is more intuitive when locked on to a target. Dodge will be your friend in this game as just like other Souls games the monsters are all deadly and the bosses are even deadlier. Also with other Souls games the environment presents its own hazards so suffice to say you will die....often.

With any Souls game though the point isn't how often you die but what you learn from the experience and "Bloodborne" rewards persistence. Another great change is healing items are once again easier to come by and you can actually recoup a certain amount of life that is taken away by an enemy striking you if you're quick enough. This may make "Bloodborne" on its face seem easier than previous incarnations but it really isn't- the enemies are a lot tougher this time around, even the weaker enemies aren't pushovers like previous versions. This game is definitely worth getting if you can handle repeated failure and don't mind a challenge. It's beautiful to look at, has great atmosphere and lighting, the enemies are well made and the action is fierce. Or to be a little shorter, if you're reading this review and remain unconvinced, go out and buy the game right now.

Definitely one of my favorite games for PS4. The awesome combat system, the beautiful graphics and that eerie Victorian horror atmosphere, it's all top notch! There are a ton of secrets in this game, as well as 3 possible endings, which makes this game very replayable.

Now comparing this to Dark Souls 2 SotFS game which I just played before it, i will say that Bloodborne is hard, but not frustrating. This is because of the new battle system that's in place which is fast and aggressive (unlike DS which is defensive). Also Bloodborne gives you the choice right off the bat should you want to play online or offline. This is a big plus since you need to basically unplug your router / unplug internet / sign out of PSN connection to trick DS2 into offline mode. My point here is that Bloodborne does not force you into unwanted PvP like DS2 does.

In any case, my only critiques of the game (and this is minor nitpicking on my part): Ranged weapons don't do much damage, even when upgraded, so I find myself using them rarely. Also, there is no tank / caster builds in this game like in other games, but I suspect this is to stay inline with the Victorian era atmosphere. Last but not least, I find myself unable to summon NPCs in offline mode, not sure if this is a bug or not. However, having already beat the game and being halfway into NG+ solo, I don't think it's a big loss.

The world exploration is always exciting. Never a dull moment as there are so many secrets that has satisfyng rewards.

Do not look over this game. I literally bought a PS4 because of this game and I have no regrets.
This game is your virtual motivator by saying "you can do this"
it will push you to your limits in every area.
