Can't even give this game a score and I'll tell you exactly why. Well stop right here nerd, because this is what you've been dreaming of. I can't express the anger and frustration this game has caused me to feel. I am a very well seasoned gamer, and I can pick up pretty much any game and play through it. Not until I placed this game inside my ps4. Optimistic after reading a wealthy amount of fantastic reviews, and trading in my Destiny and Battlefield Hardline towards it, imagine my surprise when I get thrown into such a terribly made game. I played a good 24 hours, and I kid you not, I was stuck on the first checkpoint the entire time. That's right, the first level. getting frustrated at this game is an understatement. If a well rounded gamer like me can't get passed the first level, then how the hell is anyone else supposed to do it?! If your looking for a game that will make you angry, then go no further. Granted I don't know the full extent of the game because, well, the game doesn't explain jack **** to you. It throws you into some weird overly dramatic sophisticated character creation screen, then straight to reading a bunch of nonsense you wont remember, then comes the dying and restarting. Evading? better hope its timed better than Einstein's Quantum Algorithm. Trying to heal? Better hope you're 5 miles away from the nearest enemy. Want to just run through the entire level and avoid a brain rupture? A great idea, but you Better hope you're ready for the boss who is 5 million levels higher than you with a health bar that goes off the screen at the end :) Just like the dark souls games. Which in my opinion I have no idea why anyone gives these worthless annoying games any attention. What are you trying to achieve in a game with no story/dialogue, crappy fighting mechanics, and stupid little inventory pick ups that you don't even know what they're used for?? just keep restarting, dying, losing all your points, no checkpoints whatsoever I mean give me a break! who finds pleasure and excitement in these games? I mean unless you're some fat nerd who grinds it all day to make one checkpoint?! sorry but I want to live a long and healthy life, and this game is gonna cause me to have a seizure and heart attack at the same time. Not only does this game feel and resemble the dark souls games, it might as well be a sequel to them. waaay too similar to be considered a whole new game. So, what have we learned today? Bloodborne is a game that was copied and pasted from dark souls and probably took 3 months to make, with no story, a great character creation screen, terrible and delayed fighting mechanics, and a giant empty inventory with worthless junk, in fact you should put your own temper in the inventory to be honest. if only it were possible /: very disappointed with this game. okay im done. It's just another dark souls game with better graphics. Sony pay reviewers for these high marks? I doubt it but makes me question these critics on a whole new level. Other people's opinions and humans are bias.

Yes, it is a great game in it's own right, but NOT FOR EVERY SOULS FAN!

Why does no one outline those facts? Since too many people praise what work's, I'll concentrate on what doesn't (for me): NO SHIELD STRATEGY : There is only one shield in the entire game, and it's meant as a joke, as it isn't viable against anything in the game. Yes, it is a great game in it's own right, but NOT FOR EVERY SOULS FAN!

Why does no one outline those facts? Since too many people praise what work's, I'll concentrate on what doesn't (for me):

NO SHIELD STRATEGY : There is only one shield in the entire game, and it's meant as a joke, as it isn't viable against anything in the game.

NO BOW OR RANGED STRATEGY : Did you like to play an archer or a caster before, even partially? Did you have fun spell sniping with binoculars or casting & dodging? Well, you c'ant do that here. Yes, there are guns, pistols, rifles, even a freaking cannon! But they aren't meant for damage, they do 3-5% at best.

SLOW CURRENCY ACQUIRING : Remember when you started your last fresh toon in any soul game, and you were in the 5 digit souls within 10 minutes? Well, that won't happen here. And you'll die a ridiculous amount of times if you're not a 2 handed melee player.

HEALING IS MINIMAL : No Estus Flask, only one item heals (well with a few rare one-time use variants) with a max of 20 at a time, that heal the same fixed amount though the entire game! what's the point in adding VIT point if the heal item always gives me the same mount of HP and there's a cap on how many you can carry?

WEAPONS ARE FEW, SCARCE & EXPENSIVE : You want a specific weapon (of which there are maybe 12-15 ish?) First you must kill a certain boss, then spend 10 to 60k of your currency to buy it. (when the boss gives like 5-10k).

GEAR SKINS ARE SCARCE ARE VERY SIMILAR : Yep, they did a complete 180 on the fashion Souls approach from last game. Not to mention, the stats are always lower then you'd expect for the area you're encountering, but that might be just me.

PAY TO REPAIR, HEALING, MAGIC, BULLETS. : Yes, Demon's Souls Style all the way. Some people likes it, I know I did, but on the other hand, it wasn't as draconian as it is here! It's like your taxes. The more you gain currency, the more you're forced to spend back just to stay even on those aspects.

NO SENSE OF DIRECTION : Demon's souls was too linear, Dark Souls 1 was the perfect balance for my tastes, as everything connected, yet every area had it's own very distinct feel. Dark souls 2 was a weird mix that failed by trying to appeal to both extremes and this one is the worst because there are 3 major areas, interconnected by random doors guarded by bosses without fog walls.

NO MORE FOG GATES : Did you enjoy the sense of dread as well as the joy of making progress when you saw one of those? Well, they now only appear once, after you died for the first time, like Vendrick in dark souls 2.

My point is not to say this is a bad game, because it definitely does deserve all the praise, but if ANY of the aforementioned points pisses you off, by all means... Do more research before seeping your hard earned money.

    thank you,

I wanted to wait until I finished the game before writing a review, but this is proving harder than I expected. I play it for 30 seconds, I then die, and then I have to stare at a loading screen for more of less one minute. Rinse. Repeat. Half-hours of days wasted with no entertainment forthcoming and trying to figure out the controls. I have better things to do with my time.

Wiping on a boss over and over again is not bad, making progress like that is fun! Going and grinding a level or two, I can get down with that, I love classic RPG's like that!

    But...

Repeating the same thing over and over again when you die? running back far away to the next destination where you've already died 10 times! And killing the same thing over and over again and then having no potions or 'money' to buy anything to help you once you get to the destination? Those are my gripes and they are not fun!

The game shouldn't be 50 hours because you're repeating the same thing for 40 hours, it should be 50 hours because the game actually has true RPG depth, like story telling, character progression, side stories. Bloodborne has so many awesome things done right in an action/adventure RPG but it is vastly hindered by repetition and forced one way game play...

If there actually was a save feature this game would be 10 hours, if that. How is that good? These 'Souls' games have SO much potential but it's drowned out by a poor definition of what 'Challenging' means.

This game is full of dated broken 1980s horrid gaming mechanics. Repetitive to the point of boredom. Poor controls, total lack of save points utter garbage.

If the game offered a difficulty level control I'd probably have spent more time with it. As it is if you are a casual, i'd highly recommend not to buy this game. The UI is piss-poor, the controls are clunky, and you'll die

I gave this a 2 because the I like the graphical style and Ambience. The artists did a nice job with the game. It's a shame most people won't see their work though because they'll throw the game out the window after an hour.

Bloodborne seems like it was made for an audience of gamers over a decade ago, brimming with a try-hard art style and cringe-worthy repetitiveness. Penetrate the skin, and you’ve got a serviceable game at the core, but a fifteen-hour journey to the center of what makes Bloodborne good feels more like a voyage to the center of the earth.

Played Dark Souls 1&2 on PC and enjoyed both! I was so looking forward to Bloodborne! I Didn't pre-order however, I've kerbed that habbit!

So I've read all the rave reviews from all the major gaming sites etc etc. And thinking I've done right by my research i.e. If you love the souls series you'll adore Bloodborne! So I decided to go and make the purchase! And Boy! Do I regret IT!

And Boy! Do I regret IT!

Having played and completed both DS 1 & 2! I wasnt going into this blind, I was up for a new challenge, in an entirely different setting, I was up for the game being difficult! Joypad smashingly so! I was looking forward to reaping the rewards of those trial and error traps, enemy engagements & boss fights. I was looking forward to learning from my mistakes, and sitting back with a huge grin on my face, when I'd finally progressed through the pain of the entire learning process!

    So what went wrong!?

Are the graphics not great? Sure there brilliant!

Are the combat mechanics, not tight! Nope, there just as great as DS 1 & 2!

Is the level design poor! Nope! There's plenty to discover, little nooks & crannys! you name it! It's all there!

    So what did go wrong!

    IMHO!

Terrible, terrible design decisions! In DS bonfires were used as check points, and although their was a certain amount of step retracing to recover your lost souls and progression. Their were very few occasions were it felt unfairly spaced out, distance wise! Often only taking a few minutes to get back to where you met your untimely demise & carry on the fight.

Bloodborne uses a similar checkpoint method, and instead of bonfires, you now have lamps! These are used to access and travel to and from the safe hub area Hunters Dream! Where you can upgrade your character and purchase consumables etc etc. Think Majula of DS 2 for those with previous knowledge!

Unfortunately, Bloodborne's first lamp positions are absolutely, unforgivingly, ludicrously positioned! Don't forget this game encourages exploration, and provides no mission pointers on your hud, no maps of the area at least not that I've encountered in the game so far.

Yet it took me 5 hours to reach the first lamp from Central Yharnam (yeah the one across the bridge from the werewolves!) Hell I was traversing sewers, finding secret pathways and shortcuts to areas in the games starting area, but no goddam lamp! I was literally going round in circles! All the time dieing on many many occasions as I discovered new enemies & traps to deal with etc etc. And all the while after dying several times, being constantly returned to the Central Yharnam lamp! Then having to traverse the exact same terrain, fighting the exact same enemies, over and over again. Just! To make some slight progresssion over my last run, only to die again! Then I'd have to rinse and repeat!

7 hours in! And finally reached the first boss! and a nifty shortcut to reach him after being killed by the Cleric beast around 20+ times! Here in lies the problem for me with Bloodborne! It was everything I expected from developers Fromsoft! Only this time! I began to view the game from a different perspective! That of a non prior DS player! A complete newbie if you will! And then it hit me! This game is so frustratingly unapproachable for a casual player, that it isnt even funny! I'm 3 bosses in currently and honestly! Even I've had enough! I dont want to continue! The games is so frustrating, confusing, ambigious, repetitive! I keep reading all these positive reviews "If you like DS You'll love this!" etc, etc! What if I was a new player? With no prior experience of the DS series whatsoever! Am I supposed to accept, that you made a game that just isnt for me! Fair enough I'm sure many people could accept that!

As developers though! Shouldnt you accept!? That you made a game so incredibly, frustratingly, unapproachable! That has such a punishing obtuse & unforgiving, learning curve, that youre inadvertantly going to just disway many a player, from even wanting to play your future games!

To me the difficulty in this game is a step to far! Not as a result of the gameplay, the game plays really well. The game mechanics however! The constant repetitive nature, the rinse and repeat, die until master approach, just makes the game feel! For lack of a better word CHEAP!

Personaly as a DS fan, this is just too much! And not to mention the other small nuisances i.e. frame rate drops, clip hits through walls, reallllllllly long load times! I' mean seriously I downloded the nearly 30gb to my HD! Whats with the 3 min load times ppl! Yeah this game aint for casual for sure, I'm not sure its for new players either!

If you haven't played the DS series prior! And dont want to be frustrated, by extreme difficulty through poor game mechanics! I'd wait for this to drop in sale or something! Before taking the dip! I really think the developers missed a genuine opportunity with this game! Oh well! Maybe next time! The hardcore DS'ers though, will probably LOVE IT!

Worst souls-like ever, and that's an impressive feat when it was made by the original man himself.
Speed =/= quality, and it definitely shows in this game. From slap-happy fights, hilariously easy encounters(so long as you mash R1 and regain your health, or circle when enemies get into their ridiculous little attack strings), and obnoxiously noisy bosses(the screams, oh god the screams),

While this may make for a faster experience in battle, it also makes for a much more limited one. I can't see the PVP surviving in this game given that every battle is essentially the same with two players just dodging and swinging with no real varietybeyond that.

The positives however are that the game is absolutely beautiful, with responsive controls and it provides a great challenge. I imagine the lore is just as interesting, if not more so, than that of Dark Souls but that will take time to unravel and piece together.

This isn't a bad game by any means, just not what a Souls successor should be as it seems to be taking one step forward and two steps back when it comes to variety which ultimately effects gameplay.

As this game is populated with mini bosses - for the want of a better description - who are mostly overpowered compared to the player, the repetition of the play is downright tedious.
I am all for a challenging game, but I prefer challenges to be in the form of puzzles, rather than the dumbed down versions achieved by having grossly overpowered enemies at every turn. Throw in the consequence of having to go back and do it all over again if one of them happens to kill you and you have a game that gets old very quickly.
If it's too hard, perhaps co-op with a friend might ease the anxiety you think, but the co-op in this game is so obscure - like the story - you could be forgiven for thinking that there isn't any. Even then, you need to advance into the game quite a bit before co-op is possible, presuming you can discover how it works.
For a game with such splendid graphics, it is really a shame that it is too repetitive and at times difficult, to be considered fun.

I'll start by being nice. The game nails it in the addictive category. You'll want to beat every boss due to their difficulty. However, this is the only area the game excells in. You'll find the same enemies wandering around and upon defeating them there is little reward for your efforts. Not only this, but you'll be doing it 50 times in a row just to defeat a boss to progress. I understand that it makes the game rewarding when you finally nail the boss, but surely they could have made something differ along the way.

Possibly the most over hyped game of this gen?

i know a lot of people love this game but if you're not already a fan of the Dark Souls games give it a miss. Its a frustrating and irritating experience. If you're the kind of player that has to grab 45 min - 1 hour sessions on a game due to other commitments the lack of save points and non-intuitive gameplay will make you want to bounce your head off of a wall. Disclaimer: I was never a big fan of Dark Souls 1 or 2 but gave both a good attempt and many hours. The main reasons neither was a hit for me were (1) controls were very limiting and/or clunky, AI was OK at best of times and near-stupid much of the time, and (3) a game should be fun, not just work.

Bloodborne had a good shot at excelling. It does not. DS 2 is still a better game than

This game is very limiting - only a very narrow set of skills will result in a viable build, where's the magic?, dungeons are 80% repeated areas, etc.
Add in framerate drops at some survival-critical spots, sometimes the crappy camera angle gets you killed, armor that does nearly nothing to keep you alive, snorefest greyscale color pallet, and most annoyingly - the very limited RPG elements almost make this a non-RPG RPG. It will be a travesty if this gets GOTY as some nutjobs are hoping.

I did a 1 hour back-to-back gameplay comparison last night with Neverwinter MMO (also playing this currently):
NW - completed a daily raid, got two drops worth using, unlocked new skills, had fun.
Bloodborne - died 7 times, made very little progress, shook my head and switched back to NW.

If Scalebound is remotely like Bloodborne I'm going to be really pissed!

This game is without a shadow of a doubt, the worst game I've ever played. The graphics, while detailed are blurred and muddy, the framerate sucks, the physics is literally the worst I've ever seen. Walk over the weightless bodies of the monster who just one-hit-killed you.. it'll float around like its full of helium. Your weapons stick through walls (ever heard of collision detection). This game is without a shadow of a doubt, the worst game I've ever played. The stats are meaningless because they're not introduced. Your weapons exist in a parallel dimension and only appear when the character scratches his butt. Seriously. Expand

Great graphics and definitely hard to play but it lacks the depth and rpg elements that I found in DK I and DK II but that is just my opinion. I would still get it though.

Mediocre game for the price with a lot of hype.

The mechanic is the simplest of button mashing with a particularly slow and unresponsive avatar, if you guys remember Another World and the first Prince of Persia then remove the puzzle elements and make it 3D then this is what you're looking at. Don't expect God Of War fluidity here. Visually I'm not sure if everyone else is

Visually I'm not sure if everyone else is experiencing a different game to me, but the enemies are both repetitive and unimaginative, and while the world textures and shaders are OK the geometry is decidedly last generation, this is not a game to wow your PC gamer friends with, heck it's not even a game to wow your PS3 owning friends with.

On the mechanics, well there's no real sense of satisfaction with this game despite what most reviewers claimed. You kill all the enemies in an area either piecemeal or simply run around and avoid them, and you're just greeted with more of the same. There's not even much of a challenge if you're patient and take your time, it's just kinda dull, and once you've defeated a boss you really don't feel anything other than "oh, ok".

There's nothing visceral about the operation either, the weapons feel floaty and disconnected, there's no satisfying sound effect or visual effect when you hit your mark, the motion just carries on through and you know that you did your job because the little bar above them goes down. Guns are really only there to distract/attract and separate enemies from the pack, you can also use them for riposte and to stagger an enemy in the middle of their attack, but as a weapon they do next to no damage.

You will have a hard time finding reason to carry on playing beyond a few hours simply because there's no real reward for continuation. There's scant little narrative and even fewer characters, the world and it's geometry is even more repetitive than the first Infamous city, you will see the same geometry endlessly so there's little visual reward for exploring, the single mechanic of fighting is not exactly a strong point either. Mostly you'll carry on because you invested however much money and you'll be damned if you're not going to get your moneys worth out of it one way or another!

I gather they built this with a very small team, so I guess you can forgive it's lack of story, visual, UI and mechanical flaws, it's basically a more expensive indie title, and for that it's decent enough. It comes up for free with Playstation Plus then it would definitely be worth downloading as there's at least a decent play length. But it's not worth spending more than perhaps $15 on. It might make a decent IOS game too, in fact that's probably the ideal platform, gameplay and graphics wouldn't suffer at all, the only trouble would be the lack of pause/save, otherwise this could even be a port from an IOS hack & slash game.

Skip, wait for the next half finished cookie cutter Japanese monster hunting game to make it to the shelves, it will be the same but have attractive girls weilding giant swords and more imaginative scenery.
