The music and artwork is charming, and easily the best aspects of the game.

Beholgar is buggy as all hell, though; it's clearly an amateur project. You'll find yourself occasionally outside of world bounds, getting hit by enemies that just died, not being able to double jump when you ought to - and more. Try climbing a vine to its very top for my favourite bug.

These bugs are frustrating but it's a testament to the game that I ploughed onward despite these issues.

Game design is OK at best, frequently quite disappointing. Unmarked death drops, inconsistent behaviour. With the nostalgic element in mind though, this reminds me of early platformers where people were still figuring out the rules for what makes a good platform experience.

Frankly if you can get this game on sale, and you're after a frustrating but charming taste of those dream-like platformers from the 90s, consider Beholgar. Just bear in mind that if it weren't for the warm feeling I get whilst playing this would probably be a 5/10 for me due to its frequent poor design and laughably bad bugs.
