An all round decent shooter. I only played the campaign, had a really good time. Its action-packed and looks pretty. The sound is also impressive, especially for a game this old.
Sure the narrative is on par with everything else out there but I still had a hell of a lot of fun.
My only gripes are that the ending trophies didn't unlock and because of that I won't be going back to it.

    Pros:
    +Huge maps and game
    +chaotic fun
    +great levolution
    +amazing graphics

    Cons:
    -Uses Origin
    -At times glitchy or laggy
    -Campaign is Horrible

This game is not great, and EA refuses to let go of Origin. But if it's this or Call of Duty Ghosts, choose this.

First off, let me state that I only bought this game for the single-player campaign--I don't play games online. I'd probably give this game a higher rating if I was in it for the multiplayer, but who knows? I realized the campaign was only going to be a 5-6 hour experience but bought the game anyway seeing as how it was only $15 after my trade-in.

(which was "The Evil Within" btw, the **** game i've played on PS4 but that's another story)

I'm not really a CoD or Battlefield fanboy.....but I will say I enjoy this game more than any CoD game I've played since WM3. The campaign just gives you more freedom and space to work with. Sure, it's a linear game just like every other Military FPS but here you are usually given a larger area to work with and you don't have to take the EXACT same path through each level to succeed. The game encourages you to improvise paths/strategies to find out what works best for you.

When you find yourself in a vehicle in this game it doesn't feel like a turret/scripted section like in other FPS games. In fact, much of the time you don't technically need to use vehicles in the game at all if don't desire to. Also I enjoy that the scripted moments are kept to a minimum when compared to other modern military FPS games....which probably is for the best since the plot is admittedly generic.

This game can't be given a single point for being original as it is clearly just a CoD clone. That's not a bad thing though, sometimes the knock-offs actually improve upon what they're stealing from. This seems to be the case with this game.

Of the three FPS games i've played on PS4 this one is tied with Metro: Redux which I also enjoyed but ultimately traded-in due to it's bugs/glitches. From what I've read this game may have been really buggy/glitchy upon release, but playing through the campaign I noticed a very minimal amount of technical issues. Probably due to my keeping my software/firmware updated & current.

The ending to me seemed rushed and was very anti-climatic. The multiplayer is a much better experience that can hog up hours of your life. However, I think this is it's downfall. As a casual gamer, I don't have 1,000 hours to invest into this game to reach top rank. I have a job, girl friend, and a life. Why make the leveling up process.... sooooooo.... sloooooow? Sure maybe it's rewarding to the fans who make the grind which is great, but this game fell flat for me after rank 40. With having that said, I still give this game credit for having a fun multiplayer experience. It's currently the best on the market for first person shooters. I would suggest that if a single player campaign is more important to you then give Wolfenstein a try. Expand

Purchased the game but it feels like a demo. For nearly every game mode or map i have to buy expansions. Avoid this sneaky new business model people. The game may cost like 50$ but you will need to pay atleast 50$ more for expansions. And probably even more.

So this game has a ton of issues for PS4 and I have held off writing any kind of review because I was hoping it would be fixed by the time I actually got unlazy and made a metacritic account.

Here are some of the issues:

    1. The campaign mode (ya ya, I play campaign mode and it is a crucial part of the game to me) is great, but I had to turn my internet connection off to do it. The glitch in the game doesn't save any progress if you turn off the game and it is connected to the internet. It required that I use a USB and stay offline until I finished. ANNOYING since to collect trophies you need to beat it at least 3 times.

    2. Online rubberbanding. Enough said.

    3. Non-existent hitbox. I saw a gif that explained it best - there will be times when you will literally shoot right through someone's face online and it will not register..... leading to point 4

    4. said person will then one shot kill you through a wall. This must be something to do with rubberbanding or just plain bad physics but I have been shot around walls sooooooooooooooooooo many times.

    5. Bad fps or latency on multiplayer conquest maps. The look good and lots of different play styles, but hell if you don't have a complete "oh s**t" moment when a building collapses and FPS drops to -3.

That said, why give it a 6 (maybe 7). Despite the issues I have logged well over 300 hours because there isn't much else in terms of multiplayer available. Now that other games have come out, I haven't played it in a while but it still has entertainment value if I hop on with a few friends.

So if you are looking for a game with decent play value, get it, but if you want a polished product - stay away because even a year in the game is a joke and EA has definitely shifted resources to their next gen of games.

Campaign: If you're expecting an amazing in-depth story, then you will be disappointed. If you expect an explosive action packed thrill ride akin to many action movies, then you'll get what you want here.

Multiplayer: Upon release, Battlefield 4 was hindered by a load of bugs, glitches, and exploits that were often game breaking. Are they still around? Yes, but not as much as they were at launch. It can sometimes be frustrating to get past these problems, but now they happen less and are quickly overcome. Undoubtedly, the selling point of this game is the "Levolution" feature, in which elements of the map are destroyed or changed as the battle rages around them, culminating in a big "Levolution" event which greatly changes the map in some circumstances. These are often varied in size and scope, and range from a floor collapsing, a tower falling down, the side of a building crumbling, steam pipes exploding causing a bridge to collapse, a large ship crashing ashore, and an epic collapse of a huge skyscraper, shrouding the map in dust and debris. It is worth playing the multiplayer just to witness these events at least once. As for the rest of the multiplayer, it functions nearly the same as Battlefield 3, which is good for those who enjoyed it, but means that those who didn't enjoy Battlefield 3 and aren't impressed by the "Levolution" feature will have a hard time enjoying this one.
However, any person who enjoys FPS games is likely to enjoy this, so they should be encouraged to pick this game up as it is definitely one of the most prolific and popular FPS franchises at the moment.

During 4 months the game was completely broken. Hard to get into a match, lots of errors to log in into the servers and there was no way to invite friends to your group. Then they fixed some errors and the way EA apologized was by giving us "XP boost". That was a bad idea and they are still selling their DLC at the same price. Without DLC's, this game doesn't worth your money and time.

Is this the reason why you bought a New Gen console? It was for me. And yes, I remember the extreme frustration that came with not being able to play this game. However, I was fortunate enough to trade in for multiple PS4 games so when Battlefield wasn't working I could play Assassin's Creed, Fifa, etc.

However, if this was the only game I bought and the only reason I got a PS4, this game would get a score of 1... at the time at least. Now with the looming Battlefield Hardline, I thought I'd mention that this game is better than Battlefield 3 on previous gen consoles. 64 players make it hectic, fun, but can strain a slower internet.

The single player campaign is more enjoyable than 3 but not quite the caliber of the Bad Company series. It's also relatively short (I beat it in around 7-8 hours) and I have a tough time not thinking that Call of Duty: Ghosts had a better story with more interesting "set pieces" even if it was over-the-top Hollywoodized.

Comparisons aside, Battlefield 4 does offer a lot of variety in it's well-polished multiplayer and it can be fun to lone wolf as a sniper or help out random allies. However, Battlefield is the most fun while playing with friends and squadmates that know what they're doing and play their roles well.

I'm also glad to see "Base and Spawn humping" has been addressed, ie. jets no longer have to take off and enemies cannot get to your base. That doesn't mean a game cannot be severely mismatched due to some balancing issues. I found myself quitting out of unbalanced matches after only one map and staying in balanced matches longer than I should have.

I also think Battlefield 4 creates a better since of accomplishment doling out upgrades, new gear, awards, and "battle boxes" frequently. And balancing weapons and equipment better than predecessors.

The vehicle controls take some time to get used to and are quite difficult. That can be a good thing because Air Superiority can more easily be combated. It feels as if the game has a more "rock, scissors, paper" approach to combat and an infantryman with the right equipment and skill can actually repel or defeat armored attacks.

I also found myself using the PS Share feature for those awe-inspiring moments that your friends may not have believed in the past. Now you have proof.

You may have heard of Levolution (sp?). Levolution basically alters the way a map or area plays. It is not a fluid organic thing however. It is a scripted event that you typically know is coming and when. They are cool, but some levels end up being cooler than others. Examples include map flooding, hurricanes, skyscrapers collapsing, etc.

Also, I'm a big fan of multiple approaches in a multiplayer match, especially with this franchise, and Battlefield 4 really seems to take this into consideration. There aren't as many bottleneck areas or areas where a tank can dominate . Basically, all maps feel like they were tested thoroughly to ensure the proper ebb and flow of combat and to discourage any one aspect from dominating a map.

Some negative staples of the Battlefield franchise still exist, like the aforementioned server imbalance, nerfed sniping, awkward melee, taking an objective only to lose it right after leaving, and "micro transactions leading to dominance" among a few other issues.

Speaking of transactions. I am a fan of the Premium service. I waited and purchased it when the third DLC came out because I still got access to previous Gold Packs, Premium exclusive content (typically aesthetic), and it financially made since. However, I hate the fact that anyone can spend real money to unlock the best weapons, equipment, etc. It's pricey and a person still has to have the skill to back it up, but it can be frustrating in certain scenarios (especially with jets) or when your gun does get outmatched.

Also, in case you didn't know; Battlepacks have different tiers (gold, bronze, etc) and have random goodies inside. These are typically scopes, camo, etc. and the odds of getting something more useful are increased (if not guaranteed) with the higher quality battlepacks. You can also spend real money on these.

None of the micro-transactions should surprise you if you knew that EA publishes this franchise.

All in all, I've had my fun with this game. The DLC is arguably worth it (I love it), Battlefield 4 is not perfect, but it is great. And I'm not quite ready for a new Battlefield to come out. I'd give this game a 9.5 now if I could.

Battlefield 4 is the newest entry into the legacy franchise by developer DICE and presents a continuation building on the foundation developed by it's predecessor, Battlefield 3. But, is the foray into this Battlefield worth the price, or should you sit this one out until the next call to arms?

After playing both the launch version of Battlefield 4, and the newest version of Battlefield 4 (post DICE LA update) I am impressed by the turn that the future of the franchise has taken. Battlefield 4 launched boasting an impressive suite of features, most of which were unavailable due to a rather toxic and bug ridden launch. While not entirely known for it's campaign, Battlefield 4 delivers a rather memorable experience that puts you in the shoes of a soldier in charge of preventing an all out war over political espionage. As expected, you will tour a variety of locations with your squad, destroying all that stand in your path while engaging in adrenaline filled glory as you unleash a foray of lead in the air. However, what Battlefield is known for is it's multiplayer experience, which at launch, and up until a few weeks ago, was plagued with network connection errors, bugs, netcode issues, and a host of other unpleasant items commonly equated to an incomplete game. With Battlefield Hardline fast approaching, DICE LA took the mantle to fix issues prevalent in the game to prove to fans that they can, and will, produce op notch quality games in lieu of the former DICE Sweden. DICE LA has taken what was initially an awful game, not worthy of a single dollar, and breathed life into the franchise once again. Battlefield 4 on the PS4 has never been better, but unfortunately, it is too little too late. While Battlefield 4 is remarkably better in terms of its multiplayer experience now after much needed updates, many players have moved on and long since returned copies of the game. As such, there is a heap of fantastic multiplayer content that is barely being played. Unfortunately, DICE LA's work to re-establish the franchise in preparation for release of Battlefield Hardline may have been a waste as this title was already dead in the water long ago. However, its nice to see developers support a title, especially one that they didn't create. Battlefield 4 is best avoided due to the lack of activity surrounding a title that was neglected by it's developers for far too long.

It cannot be denied that Battlefield is heading in the right direction for multiplayer shooters. With the introduction of 64 online players, it's one of the best experiences you would have on a shooter to date. Where the game disappoints is the story mode, which is less enjoyable than the Bad Company series, and perhaps more free map packs would intrigue more of the public to make a purchase.

The core of the game is the mutliplayer experience and this is an absolute blast to play. The new maps are varied and big. The ability to now play with 64 people on the same map is a big step forward. Still, the amount of maps is a little underwhelming and you'll need to fork out extra money if you want the extra DLC maps.

Still, the amount of maps is a little underwhelming and you'll need to fork out extra money if you want the extra DLC maps.

Paid DLC is fine, as long as the vanilla offering is large enough to warrant a full retail price. This isn't the case here.

In the graphics department, it doesn't really feel next gen. It sure plays smoothly, but I expected a prettier game on the new consoles.

The campaign is dull and lackluster, and only provides value when the servers are offline. They would have better made it online MP only, and add more maps, instead of this season pass sillyness.

    + 64 people multiplayer fun

If u are passionate about war games, is the one ou like. Im not. but i think this game is fun to play a story mode, the multiplayer online is fun but you may find hard to kill players. But is fun when you apply your own strategy to kill enemies, specially with a sniper rifle. gameplay is great. To try.

This game has got to be one of the best war/1st person shooter games. I give it 4 stars only because their campaign seemed very bland but aside from that, it's really good. You have a variety large maps (dlc maps not included), wide selection of firearms, graphics and plenty of explosive action/destruction. I definitely recommend this to anybody who's into war games.

I can list my various little complaints all day if I wanted and if you can't see what I'm saying you still wouldn't be any more convinced as to why I feel this way. It does best what the Battlefield franchise does best; well-balanced team-based gameplay of an immense scale (with 64 players on PC and newer consoles) with vehicles ranging from jets to boats to armored trucks to ride in. BF4 takes this to a new level with “levolution”; one map-changing destructible piece in each map, be it a skyscraper which can collapse into the sea, moving the objective which was on top out in the rubble, or a dam which will then flood the bottom floor of the entire map. You can also play modes that use small parts of the map, such as team deathmatch. All the while, you will level up, unlocking new guns and equipment. As for the glitches...well, I started playing this game a few months after it was released so I didn't suffer the brunt of that. Even with that considered, it should be no lower than a 7/10. The combat in the game is slightly altered meaning that if you kill an enemy your rewarded points and this contributes to your'e overall score sort of similar to BF4
s multiplayer. Ammo boxes refill the players ammo and let you use any gun you unlocked right from that point on. Both the games friendly and enemy a.i Have been improved from Battlefield 3's the enemy a.i will lunge grenades at you sometimes to flush you out and if you throw a projectile they will attempt to run away. Most of the times the enemy soldiers are communicating to each other and would try to shoot you from a far almost never moving up, They also take cover and fire on the player and squad. You can also order your squad mates (or any other friendly soldiers encountered) To engage a specific target you would also be awarded points for every squad kill. The campaign mode features characters that feel alive and each differing in their own ways and actions. The game has the standard explosion set piece but also includes really dramatic moments that can be very inspiring or very upsetting, It has some hidden messages such as "the horrors of war" and "power corrupts" The campaign is entertaining and actually makes you carry about the characters and the story line. Multiplayer allows you to customize the look of your soldier and his weapons. Then partake in large infantry battles with some vehicles. So when you're playing this sh*t you'll just find yourself dying every 5 seconds. Well, let's talk about the singleplayer story

Battlefield has never been a singleplayer FPS. But for some reason they keep adding it. And what's even the point in doing that? The singleplayer is just 4-5 hours long, Maybe longer if you're playin ln a harder difficulty. And what happened to playing against bots? Anyone remembers that in Battlefield 1943?

It just seems like everything DICE develops turns out to be a disappointment.

The multiplayer aspect of the game is just so boring and repetitive. There was just 5-6 maps at launch. Since then DICE added 2-3 more. Unless you own the Premium edition you'll just find yourself playing the same maps over and over. Untill you get bored and delete the game.

I mea, how much can you f*ck up Battlefield? A couple of maps, 2 teams, vehicles and control points? A bunch of 12 year old cab create a better version of Battlefield than a studio full of grown men and women. 12 year olds woulden't use the same engine for 14 years. Let's just hope the next Battlefield isn't a broken piece of sh*t at launch. Or else the Battlefield series is screwed. They'll just keep pumping out new Battlefield games every year untill people stop buying them.

So no, don't buy this on any system. Go out and buy Battlefield 1942.

Map selection is okay, and the map changing events were a major gimmick to sell the game, and so battlefield players could use as an elitist argument against call of duty.

Now, DICE wasn't really ever known for making great campaigns, but this plot was pretty neat... the execution... so-so. It has a really gamey ending.

The singleplayer is very boring and cheap, you mostly dont know whats going on. The cutscenes are boring, the characters are boring, and those things are important to make a good campaign. There is just not enough depth to the singleplayer. So you might reconsider buying this game, if you're doing it for the singleplayer. Finishing the whole campaign, took me about 4 hours, and i tried to enjoy it as much as possible (not rushing too much).

But screw the singleplayer, right? I think most people would agree with me, if i said this game is all about the multiplayer. Huge maps with 64 players is what im talking about! DICE have really done a great job creating a unique atmosphere in Battlefield 4. The tickling in the stomach when shells are shot everywhere, jets and helicopters flying just above you, tanks firing desperate shots at you never gets old. Unlike the singleplayer campaign, the multiplayer has A LOT of depth to the game. Wether you like vehicle combat, or infantry combat, there are a lot of customisations, and roles to choose from. There are many game modes, some of which are; Conquest, team deathmath and rush which are the most played game modes in Battlefield 4 and 3.
I've experienced that this game encourages teamwork. Either by healing, resupplying, or attacking/defending an objective with your teammates. The level of teamwork required, to be a stable team is perfectly fine. You dont really have to care too much about your teammates, but in the other side you do. There is a balance that has to be achieved, and Battlefield definately got that balance.
BUT some unlockables, can only be unlocked by playing the singleplayer, and thats bad, because they force you to play something completely different, from what you're unlocking the specific thing for!

    Overall:
Battlefield can still compete with many new FPS, and you should just buy it now if you already havent.

Improvements i wish to see in future battlefield games:

    Singleplayer has to be improved

Launch has to be more stable

Premium feature has to be removed! - Even though the base game is good, and its NOT pay2win, the premium contains a lot of cool content that we would like to see in the base game.

I don't understand why do many bad reviews! The game is great! The graphics are very good for it's release date, the gameplay on the multiplayer is good (although veeery buggy sometimes!) and a whole lot of fun if you like FPS! (And very cheap too!)
I just took 1 point on this game in my score because, jesus, the campaign lore is awful! Just go for the multiplayer ok?

It is an excellent campaign with great characters and a realistic geopolitical narrative. It also features lots of variety so it never really gets old. However, your character doesn't breathe a word the entire time, which gets a bit awkward when someone addresses you, and you just stare at them. The game struggles with immersion all the way to the final level, where you are forced to choose to sacrifice someone, and the option to do it yourself is not even there.
The good things about this game make me feel optimistic for Dice's next release, even though the bad things about it were somewhat upsetting.

Long-time Battlefield Vet! (Since Bad Company 1)
All of the bugs that plagued the game are gone. The online community when it's there makes for some seriously fun competition.

The single player was nice little soldier story that keeps you on the edge of your seat. Some combat moments get TENSE and require a bit more than just shooting down range. Overall, I feel the campaign is much more challenging than ANY of the CoD ones. (Although CoD does win over in the theatrics department)

Now Multiplayer is a totally different animal! All of the equipment you were able to get into campaign is available to use so long as you unlock it. Combat is tight, has a more realistic feel in terms of sounds, weapon operation and how to playfield is damaged.

Those unfamiliar with the game, may want to do some researching on the 4 class system that battlefield features, as there are a lot of gadgets and distinct playstyles to each class kit. Another cool thing is customizing your soldier AND their weaponry. (Down to the camo, barrel type, etc.)

The only downside to the online is the dimished community due to more recent Battlefield games being out. But if you can manage to get a good lobby, you have a LOT of fun! Also, the DLC may not be worth your money at this point due to the low server population and poor support for the other game types like obliteration or chainlink. BTW, if you like "gun master" from Counterstrike, YOU WILL LOVE THIS GAME!!

Neither the multiplayer or campaign live up to BF3, and even playing them objectively was more of a disappointing experience than anything else. I beat the game on Hard with very little challenge (the tanks were a pain) and then reached level 25 in multiplayer for the trophy but that was even more of a chore. It's a fun game if you haven't played 3 but still won't offer you a wholesome FPS experience in single or multiplayer modes. Expand

Good FPS game of fantasy war, with much closer to the tension present in reality. A reasonably good campaign. But a superior multiplayer! GIANT FPS for the date. The first step to your successor battlefield 1...

10/10 for the PS4 version for the fact that it isn't just copy and pasted, but overhauled when it comes to graphics, unlike Saints Row IV, COUGH COUGH!
Every point I made for the PS3 version still stands for this version. Endless hours of fun.

Battlefield had a rough start at release but now, the game is one of the best games to play. With new players joining into the battlefield action and old folks returning and revisiting Battlefield 4, this game will never die.

Battlefield never was never a franchise with great stories, BF4 is no exception, the missions are OK, overall, its a very easy game to beat. The multiplayer is kinda fun, but the servers are instable and most Multiplayer modes arent free ( EA being EA)

I found this game's campaign mode really boring unlike the previous game. The multiplayer is really really good, a lot of fun modes and customization options for your weapons. This game is at it's best when you play the multiplayer with friends. Overall Battlefield 4 has a great multiplayer mode but a disappointing campaign. Now all the bugs have been fixed and its dirt cheap, so its a steal.

In comparison with the current-gen of consoles, Battlefield 4 is the shooter for the next-gen consoles. The graphics are even more stunning than before and there’s an ability to play with more gamers on the console. Choose the PlayStation 4 or Xbox One-version above the current-gen versions.
  2. The issues aren’t ruinous, and in the case of the multiplayer more an inconvenience that EA needs to address than anything else – but it’s enough to take the shine off what should be one of the best shooters on PS4.
