Good FPS game of fantasy war, with much closer to the tension present in reality. A reasonably good campaign. But a superior multiplayer! GIANT FPS for the date. The first step to your successor battlefield 1...

Well started playing bf4 in 2014 when ps4 was still new, and returning back a year later, now this games multiplayer is ruined. This is not a battlefield game, this is call of duty but disguises as a battlefield game, well EA what do you gonna do?, hmmm let me guess nothing. 15 bucks wasted. EA? more like EAvision

Firstly though, let's address the extremely average campaign. I found myself often watching cut scenes with a whole lot of destruction and angry men shouting, without really understanding what was happening. Even the incredible graphics & sound design couldn't take away from the countless repetitive missions featuring set objectives... yawn. However, the multiplayer aspect of this game is where everything clicks. Call of Duty really can't come close to this, in the sense of sheer map design & size, teamwork, realism and self satisfaction. It is't a simulator of course, but it makes it's main rivals look like Space Invaders. One of the best games of 2013 - purely for the multiplayer experience. Expand

I have been playing this game for 2 years on Xbox and on PC and I still keep coming back to it. It deserves so much more credit than it got. Another BF game that releases the same time as COD. And oh boy was this one better. Better graphics, and team play. The game still feels sluggish to COD, but that is to be expected with a more realistic shooter. Campaign on the other hand just like COD is disappointing. 2013 COD v BF is def BF.

All of the bugs that plagued the game are gone. The online community when it's there makes for some seriously fun competition.

The single player was nice little soldier story that keeps you on the edge of your seat. Some combat moments get TENSE and require a bit more than just shooting down range. Overall, I feel the campaign is much more challenging than ANY of the CoD ones. (Although CoD does win over in the theatrics department)

Now Multiplayer is a totally different animal! All of the equipment you were able to get into campaign is available to use so long as you unlock it. Combat is tight, has a more realistic feel in terms of sounds, weapon operation and how to playfield is damaged.

Those unfamiliar with the game, may want to do some researching on the 4 class system that battlefield features, as there are a lot of gadgets and distinct playstyles to each class kit. Another cool thing is customizing your soldier AND their weaponry. (Down to the camo, barrel type, etc.)

The only downside to the online is the dimished community due to more recent Battlefield games being out. But if you can manage to get a good lobby, you have a LOT of fun! Also, the DLC may not be worth your money at this point due to the low server population and poor support for the other game types like obliteration or chainlink. BTW, if you like "gun master" from Counterstrike, YOU WILL LOVE THIS GAME!!

However, your character doesn't breathe a word the entire time, which gets a bit awkward when someone addresses you, and you just stare at them. The game struggles with immersion all the way to the final level, where you are forced to choose to sacrifice someone, and the option to do it yourself is not even there.
The good things about this game make me feel optimistic for Dice's next release, even though the bad things about it were somewhat upsetting.

I am just going to say that the graphics, voice acting, sound effects etc. are quite good, I don’t think this comes as a surprise as DICE is usually very good at that. In terms of gameplay, it is just another FPS game, with all the good and the bad. If you like FPS, you will definitely enjoy this one. I don’t think there is a lot to say as everybody has played a CoD or a BF or something at some point and there is nothing special about BF4. I’d only say, in terms of the campaign, I am a bit disappointed. The campaign is not as spectacular and such an adrenaline rush as it is in other games. The story is quite basic, there is absolutely nothing special about it, the characters are a cliché and the missions are not specially surprising, meaning you won’t see something you’ll say “wow”. As I said, this is kind of a disappointment since BF3 had a great campaign, with great story and some really “wow” moments. I understand a lot of the focus on these games (from devs and players) goes into the multiplayer and, that solo player is not that important anymore, but BF4 campaign feels as if it was done quickly to just tick the “this game has a single player mode” box.

My opinion then is, if you enjoy this kind of games for the campaign, just buy this one if it is quite cheap (got it on sales for less than a fiver), otherwise look for something else, because you’ll complete the game with a “meh” feeling. Those mainly looking for a good multiplayer experience, I don’t know, but this game is probably quite good for that (read some other reviews ).

Also like with the last battlefield game, there is premium in Battlefield 4. 5 DLC's are included, so you do have to pay extra bucks for the full Battlefield experience.

The singleplayer is very boring and cheap, you mostly dont know whats going on. The cutscenes are boring, the characters are boring, and those things are important to make a good campaign. There is just not enough depth to the singleplayer. So you might reconsider buying this game, if you're doing it for the singleplayer. Finishing the whole campaign, took me about 4 hours, and i tried to enjoy it as much as possible (not rushing too much).

But screw the singleplayer, right? I think most people would agree with me, if i said this game is all about the multiplayer. Huge maps with 64 players is what im talking about! DICE have really done a great job creating a unique atmosphere in Battlefield 4. The tickling in the stomach when shells are shot everywhere, jets and helicopters flying just above you, tanks firing desperate shots at you never gets old. Unlike the singleplayer campaign, the multiplayer has A LOT of depth to the game. Wether you like vehicle combat, or infantry combat, there are a lot of customisations, and roles to choose from. There are many game modes, some of which are; Conquest, team deathmath and rush which are the most played game modes in Battlefield 4 and 3.
I've experienced that this game encourages teamwork. Either by healing, resupplying, or attacking/defending an objective with your teammates. The level of teamwork required, to be a stable team is perfectly fine. You dont really have to care too much about your teammates, but in the other side you do. There is a balance that has to be achieved, and Battlefield definately got that balance.
BUT some unlockables, can only be unlocked by playing the singleplayer, and thats bad, because they force you to play something completely different, from what you're unlocking the specific thing for!

    Overall:
Battlefield can still compete with many new FPS, and you should just buy it now if you already havent.

Improvements i wish to see in future battlefield games:

    Singleplayer has to be improved

Launch has to be more stable

Premium feature has to be removed! - Even though the base game is good, and its NOT pay2win, the premium contains a lot of cool content that we would like to see in the base game.

The destruction is debatable however, While DICE wanted to utilize the destruction for a tactical advantage rather than a normal feature making BF4 destruction and explosions pretty to look at but nowhere near as good as Bad Company 2. The combat in the game is slightly altered meaning that if you kill an enemy your rewarded points and this contributes to your'e overall score sort of similar to BF4
s multiplayer. Ammo boxes refill the players ammo and let you use any gun you unlocked right from that point on. Both the games friendly and enemy a.i Have been improved from Battlefield 3's the enemy a.i will lunge grenades at you sometimes to flush you out and if you throw a projectile they will attempt to run away. Most of the times the enemy soldiers are communicating to each other and would try to shoot you from a far almost never moving up, They also take cover and fire on the player and squad. You can also order your squad mates (or any other friendly soldiers encountered) To engage a specific target you would also be awarded points for every squad kill. The campaign mode features characters that feel alive and each differing in their own ways and actions. The game has the standard explosion set piece but also includes really dramatic moments that can be very inspiring or very upsetting, It has some hidden messages such as "the horrors of war" and "power corrupts" The campaign is entertaining and actually makes you carry about the characters and the story line. Multiplayer allows you to customize the look of your soldier and his weapons. Then partake in large infantry battles with some vehicles. Overall it's a great game and doesn't fall short like Call of Duty.

So when you're playing this sh*t you'll just find yourself dying every 5 seconds. Well, let's talk about the singleplayer story

Battlefield has never been a singleplayer FPS. But for some reason they keep adding it. And what's even the point in doing that? The singleplayer is just 4-5 hours long, Maybe longer if you're playin ln a harder difficulty. And what happened to playing against bots? Anyone remembers that in Battlefield 1943?

It just seems like everything DICE develops turns out to be a disappointment.

The multiplayer aspect of the game is just so boring and repetitive. There was just 5-6 maps at launch. Since then DICE added 2-3 more. Unless you own the Premium edition you'll just find yourself playing the same maps over and over. Untill you get bored and delete the game.

I mea, how much can you f*ck up Battlefield? A couple of maps, 2 teams, vehicles and control points? A bunch of 12 year old cab create a better version of Battlefield than a studio full of grown men and women. 12 year olds woulden't use the same engine for 14 years. Let's just hope the next Battlefield isn't a broken piece of sh*t at launch. Or else the Battlefield series is screwed. They'll just keep pumping out new Battlefield games every year untill people stop buying them.

So no, don't buy this on any system. Go out and buy Battlefield 1942.

I remember playing this game on launch day and it was unplayable. Literally. For months. The campaign is there just because that had to put one in. The multiplayer has improved tremendously from what it once was but it certainly is not Bad Company 2. The game is better than Hardline, really anything is. If you need Battlefield on your PS4, you've got your fix. For $20, it's a good deal.

This game has got to be one of the best war/1st person shooter games. I give it 4 stars only because their campaign seemed very bland but aside from that, it's really good. You have a variety large maps (dlc maps not included), wide selection of firearms, graphics and plenty of explosive action/destruction. I definitely recommend this to anybody who's into war games.

    Positives:
+Fantastic shooting gameplay as always within all the multiplayer modes and single player campaign.

+Much better designed maps than BF3. I thought some of the maps on BF3 were unbalance(Operation Metro) but the design in BF4 maps is much more open and balanced in terms of positional advantage.

+Multiplayer never fails to entertain for hours if you're interested in that which is about 75% of this game.

+The sound engineering is exquisite as always

+Beautiful looking game with the new Frostbite engine

    Negatives:

-Sniping has become unbalanced with more and more players choosing to be snipers. Its slowly turning into COD on a bigger scale.

-The physics in terms of the environment is incredibly inconsistent. The jumping over obstacles is random with the player not jumping over small bits of rocks, railings, building materials and even blown up vehicle parts. Vehicles can too easily get stuck behind environmental objects in which it shouldn't be affected as much as it does.

-Single Campaign is as poor as ever. I know people dont buy BF4 for the campaign but they could at least give a good effort. Seems like the concept was written up in about 5 mins.

-Even though it has fixed the bugs it was still a terrible decision to release this game in an unfinished state. We can never let EA forget that.

Overall about an 8.8 rounded to a 9 for Metacritic.

It does best what the Battlefield franchise does best; well-balanced team-based gameplay of an immense scale (with 64 players on PC and newer consoles) with vehicles ranging from jets to boats to armored trucks to ride in. BF4 takes this to a new level with “levolution”; one map-changing destructible piece in each map, be it a skyscraper which can collapse into the sea, moving the objective which was on top out in the rubble, or a dam which will then flood the bottom floor of the entire map. You can also play modes that use small parts of the map, such as team deathmatch. All the while, you will level up, unlocking new guns and equipment. Battlefield BC2 is one of my favourite MP shooters of all time. Since then I've played Battlefield 3 and recently got battlefield 4 (premium)for my new PS4.
The singleplay this time was forgettable, but served as an introduction for the controls and gameplay. I soon dived into the multiplayer where these games usually shines, and well, it was fun. I soon found my favourite class in the classic gamemodes.
The difference this time, just as with BF3, I have a hard time advancing past a certain score. I find it very hard to get past the 10000 mark, most likely because this requires a lot of good team play, and there in lies the biggest problem I think.
It's incredibly hard to find a team, where anyone actually cares to play as a team. People are always off on their own agenda. This ultimately made me get bored, I always ended up feeling alone, and this in a game with potential 32 players to team up with....
You just really need friends to actually teamplay with for this game to shine for any extended period. Or you will most probably get bored real soon.
This was the same as with BF3.
I was a real pro playing BC2, I loved the levels and the gameplay and I could score high without knowing who I played with, I found it easy to help my team most of the time, and scoring was simple.
I just dont know what has happened to gameplay since then but it all just seem more chaotic and random.
I dont really have a favourite level either. It's really hard to find any good strategies. Especially if one team has a commander and yours dont your basically "painted" by drones and will often draw the shortest straw.
Bottom line is that BF to me has lost that old "magic" enjoyment I got out of BC2. I play for hours but dont feel like I'm progressing... I unlock stuff sure, but dont get past the feeling of randomness. No matter what I try I cant make much of a difference one game to another.
Final Word is that BF is prettier than ever, yet feels less fun. I cant put my finger on it really. It's just how I feel. I think it's a balancing issue, but also the large levels with a 1000 different places to camp and snipe from make it impossible to advance without taking a big risk. BC2 levels were not like that.

I'll give BF4 an OK, but I think DICE should think about going back to more basic levels, where skill makes more of a diffrence, not how many players take advantage of cheap camping tactics.

I was a lucky soul who bought this game after 99% of the glitches we're fixed and I got it for a steal at $12. That was some of the best 12 dollars I've spent on the PS4.

It was the first shooter I got to play on the system and it was a great early display of what the console was capable of early, with the silky smooth frame rate, good shooting, and fun multiplayer. The multiplayer

The multiplayer is fun, with TDM being my favorite mode, and the story isn't terrible either, this game gets a pretty good rating for me, and I feel like people should go and at least try it.

If u are passionate about war games, is the one ou like. Im not. but i think this game is fun to play a story mode, the multiplayer online is fun but you may find hard to kill players. But is fun when you apply your own strategy to kill enemies, specially with a sniper rifle. gameplay is great. To try.

Launch of this game is horrible. After some patches is a lot of better. SP is bored. MP have good maps in particular in DLC packages. Graphics look good. 64 player on map - exciting battles.

Not as bad as cod aw, but still pretty ridiculous, the hitbox detection is one of the worst i saw, the gameplay mechanics are terrible, you have to cross the sea swimming because there is no boats or anything, map design is atrocious, the maps are too big for a small ammount of people, this game does not offer nothing new, there's nothing fresh, just recycling previous gameplay standars, and there you go, another copy and paste of game. Invisible walls and glitches are just part of this disaster.
I really notice the lack of work and the lack of interest in the developers, the result of that is a BAD DESIGNED GAME, I heard terrible things about the campaign, i don't know that to think, a game with a very bad campaign is not worth buying
PLEASE STAY AWAY OF THIS PIECE OF **** DON'T FEED THOSE RATS OF EA.

Many people say they had problems with the multiplayer, but I didn't and really enjoyed it. Big maps, many different vehicles, and a huge amount of players in each map makes it actually kind of feel like a real battle. The campaign was somewhat short, but wasn't too bad.

Snipers found glitches behind some rocks, some mechanics wouldn't work and a bit more. Most recent problem is how all the dlc weapon content became locked out of no where after spending so much time achieving most of the weapons. I didn't care for trying as if this happened there's no point in trying to fix it since it'll most likely happen again. I'm not going to pre order Hardline because of how glitchy this game is but hoping it comes out successful. Expand

Game was okay for a first release on ps4. Glitches galore! my game progress mysteriously disappeared two or three times during the campaign. Multiplayer seemed to have potential.

very cool that there was an ipad app for online gaming. But i am used to wsad when it comes to online fps games so I couldn't get into it.

The best fps i have played.Takes some time to get used to,but the multiplayer is the best.the campaign can be boring. But,the multiplayer, combined with levolution 1080p 60fps can give amazing graphical performance.

Amazing just amazing. Gameplay and graphics are both beautiful. It feels so good, 1080p with 60 fps. The guns are very realistic and great sound effects as well. Best shooter so far

Online this game rules, plenty of depth and unlockables to keep me coming back. It makes me feel the tension of battle. The campaign was boring as hell but the online more than makes up for it.

One year after its release it remains broken. I've lost my sp progress 3 times already... but the mp works really well and it's awesome!! So if you don't care about the sp gibe it a shot

Battlefield 4 is a good FPS, with really great graphics (even 1 year after its release) but it does nothing more than expected, the solo campaign is very short and the story lacks almost any kind of interest BUT offers some nice/epic moments. If we add to that the launching issues, I can't help but think they should 've work a lot more on this game to deliver a game that could have been the new reference in the FPS world (and not only a great use of a great engine for a common game).

People play very annoyingly in this Battlefield especially. I mean, BF3 was absolutely atrocious but this is even worse. At least in some of the previous BFs there was a rushing option where it could be fun but in this game all everyone does is camp and so you're essentially forced into doing the same. I however refuse to do so which is why I no longer play this game.

Today is the 20th of December, 2014! This game, even with all of the patches that were released, is absolute crap!
    1. Medkits don't work while suppressed so they're practically UNUSABLE! This is a MAJOR setback for bf.
    2. Head glitching is STILL a MAJOR problem and I constantly get killed from someone's forehead. 3. I STILL get shot from around corners or through LAYERS of thick

    3. I STILL get shot from around corners or through LAYERS of thick concrete from an assault rifle.
    4. OP guns are still OP!
    5. Campaign is absolute crap and about a black guy hating a Chinese lady. That pretty much sums up 4 hours of your life right there.
    6. A shotgun with explosive rounds can ABSOLUTELY DESTROY a concrete wall but takes an ENTIRE magazine to kill someone!! WTF?!
    7. Scope glare from snipers is visible even if the sniper's FACING AWAY from the sun! Stupid balancing!
    8. Sniper rifles take more than one shot to kill someone, even if the shot is directly to the persons heart!
    9. PDWs (like the mp7 and such) are TERRIBLE and their damage is so little they should never be used!
    10. Spotting system lets you spot someone in complete cover and in bushes and stuff where, even in real life, you couldn't ever see that person! You can also spot from the other side of the entire map!
    11. The Airburst kills people instantly and is waaaay too OP.
    12. A shotgun directly to someone's chest not even 1 foot away doesn't kill that person.
    13. Whenever you join a match, about 90% of the time you're automatically on the losing team and about 90% of the time you lose the match terribly.
    14. The maps are REALLY dark and you need a flashlight to see people in broad daylight! Legit no joke.
    15. Incindiary grenades hurt you from a significant distance and even go through walls and ceilings!!!!
I could go on and on but I Thing you get the point. Battlefield 4 was the worst waste of my money ever. I can't believer I'm saying this but COD might actually be better and that's saying something.

Best PS4 game even a year after. It hasn't been match even after a year. Not even Far Cry 4 which came out a year later comes close. It has destructibility and high intensive fun gameplay. Come play with the Big Dogs in Battlefield 4.

This game is amazing and is completely action packed. The single player is a bit short but the multiplayer is simply amazing. The story line is a bit weak. But the multiplayer is worth the money!

The core of the game is the mutliplayer experience and this is an absolute blast to play. The new maps are varied and big. The ability to now play with 64 people on the same map is a big step forward. Still, the amount of maps is a little underwhelming and you'll need to fork out extra money if you want the extra DLC maps.

Paid DLC is fine, as long as the vanilla offering is large

Paid DLC is fine, as long as the vanilla offering is large enough to warrant a full retail price. This isn't the case here.

In the graphics department, it doesn't really feel next gen. It sure plays smoothly, but I expected a prettier game on the new consoles.

The campaign is dull and lackluster, and only provides value when the servers are offline. They would have better made it online MP only, and add more maps, instead of this season pass sillyness.

    + 64 people multiplayer fun
    + Addictive
    + Plays really smoothly

    - Underwhelming amount of included multiplayer maps
    - Extra maps are paid DLC
    - Graphics

In comparison with the current-gen of consoles, Battlefield 4 is the shooter for the next-gen consoles. The graphics are even more stunning than before and there’s an ability to play with more gamers on the console. Choose the PlayStation 4 or Xbox One-version above the current-gen versions.
  2. The issues aren’t ruinous, and in the case of the multiplayer more an inconvenience that EA needs to address than anything else – but it’s enough to take the shine off what should be one of the best shooters on PS4.
