These games are absolutely perfect, there is no denying that. However, this port brings this down, the constant frame drops become extremely annoying, even more so when they happen in battle. Because i'm such a massive fan of these games (Arkham City is actually my favorite game ever), I still had one of my greatest experiences playing a game since Halo 3 was released.

Return to Arkham is a very good game but it will be hit or miss depending on your preferences. This is definitely not the star-studded 60fps remake that should've been made but just like Knight, I think it's safe to say that WB was just looking to make some bucks.

I think that, excepting the frame rate, City is a pretty big improvement graphics-wise. Whether or not you want Nvidia PhysX will make or break this purchase for you. Asylum is okay. There are some parts where you may need a barf bag and there are other parts where you may think "hey, this actually looks...pretty good." But the graphics upgrade or downgrade (opinion-based) does not affect the quality of the games themselves. Asylum and City are still among the best games ever made. Batman's mouth shape doesn't change that.

If you've never played these essential Batman titles before, pick this up! If you have, then the choice is just up to you. I can't really make that choice for you. But I will say that if you already have it on PC, you are not missing much.

Marred with too many technical issues to be considered a finished product, Return to Arkham left a bad taste in my mouth. While the uncapped and inconsistent frame rates of these titles is certainly a problem, that's not even the worst of it. OneMarred with too many technical issues to be considered a finished product, Return to Arkham left a bad taste in my mouth. While the uncapped and inconsistent frame rates of these titles is certainly a problem, that's not even the worst of it. Arkham City crashes occasionally, has bugs that weren't present in the original release, and even shipped with an untextured character model. One that you encounter during the Identity Thief side quest. Yes, we've officially entered Silent Hill HD Collection levels of laziness with this port.

Arkham Asylum fares a bit better. While it runs at a lower frame rate than Arkham City does, and while both titles suffer from frame pacing and stuttering issues, Arkham Asylum at least doesn't crash. And though its frame rate is uncapped, it manages to be more consistent at reaching a somewhat stable 30fps. It's not perfect, but the version of Asylum in this release is definitely worth playing.

The new visuals being a major plus point to Asylum. While you can argue that the game has lost some of its atmosphere in the process of changing these visuals, there's no denying that the game looks pretty darn good. The new rain effects are fantastic, and the lighting is a lot better than I was led to believe it would be from the trailers.

Arkham City also features enhanced visuals, but I don't believe they're as prominent as what we see with Asylum. It's certainly a cleaner looking game than its original release, with its improved resolution, and the new effects added like stronger lighting and ambient occlusion don't go unnoticed. For all intents and purposes, it's a fine looking game. Which only makes the issues that are present that much more frustrating.

I love the Arkham games. I consider Asylum and City as two of the greatest video games ever made, period. But Return to Arkham doesn't exactly do them justice. As said, I appreciate the new visuals, and at their core, the games are as great as they've always been, from a design standpoint. But when crashing, inconsistent frame rates, and bugs start to rear their ugly heads (again, especially in Arkham City), you have to question whether the trade-off for the improved visuals is worth it or not.

I would love nothing more than to say Return to Arkham is a fantastic remaster of two of the greatest games ever made, but in its current state, it's kind of an unfinished mess. If a patch were to come along and alleviate the issues I mentioned, expect my score of this game to go up to a 9, easily.

Though the issues are clearly there when it comes to performance, that doesn't take away from these fantastic games. If you love Batman you owe it to yourself to play this game. Very few games can match this series in terms of both gameplay and story. Just be prepared for it to be less remaster and more slightly better rerelease.

    - Arkham City on the other hand is a bad bad port. Seriously, there are hundreads of bugs and glitches, the cinematics are problematic and seem to run in 15 fps and even the graphics sometimes seem really weak. I don't know how on earth did this happen! City is my favorite Arkham game by far and I cannot comprehend how did they manage to make it look older than Arkham Asylum. I hope they fix the problems. Luckily, it contains all the DLC.

Having this info in mind, the bundle is a MUST for those who haven't played the games, but whoever owned them in previous gen consoles, Arkham City's problem's won't go unnoticed.

The world’s greatest detective is back on the PS4 and Xbox One in an HD collection; the collection consists of Arkham Asylum and, Arkham City. Does this series need an HD collection or should it have just with the last generation of consoles? let’s find out.

Arkham Asylum (2009) and Arkham City (2011) come storming in on the PS4. In Arkham Asylum you are confined to one location filled with Gotham most notorious criminals, you have one target in the game though the Joker. After an incident at the mayor’s office in Gotham city, Batman captures the Joker without any fight, upon the arrival at Arkham immediately the Joker breaks free to un-foil a plan to poison Gotham’s water supply and to get to Dr. Young and the titan; a drug that DR. Young developed which is a stronger venom than what bane uses. So your job as the caped crusader is to find an antidote to the titan and stop the Joker, along with your journey you will have encounters with other “famous” Batman villains such as Scarecrow, Harley Quinn, Killer Croc, Poison Ivy, and Bane, but your main objective defeat the Joker.
In Arkham City, you start playing as the irregular billionaire Bruce Wayne tied up in a room being beaten by DR. Hugo Stranges henchmen (Tyger). Leaving the room you realize you have become a prisoner in Arkham City, strange then talks about protocol 10 and to make matters worse in this case he knows you are Batman. You are in an open world this time in the Arkham franchise, during your time here you will have your main quests with side missions and content. In this installment of Batman Arkham franchise, you have your main story bringing down Hugo Strange and, stopping protocol 10 ,but there are stories on the side like the Joker dying with a severe illness and, Ra’s al Ghul and the league of shadows that you can complete as you progress through the main story.

When it comes to gameplay Rocksteady revolutionized a combat style that we see many games do today the free flow combat style, where you can bounce from enemy to enemy unleashing devastating attacks. While you are not using hand to hand combat you are using stealth takedowns using your gadgets like the Batarang, explosive gel. When you are not in combat you are flying around using your grappling hook and collecting riddler trophies.

Verdict: Batman return to Arkham has its appeal to people if you have not played them on the previous consoles, but after the Arkham Asylum you feel a little burned out and are in no rush to go right into Arkham City. These games are really fun and good to play but you get burned out on them after the first game

Score: 7/10 Batman Return to Arkham.

Arkhams combat is boring as long as you mash triangle you can beat this game no problem. This game should be called Batman Triangle there are no punishments for mashing triangle. You will never miss your counters and it will always do damage. Now what is the story in all of these games. I tried the Batman series out for the first time in 2022. I've heard many good things about the series and was looking forward to trying it out. It's been in my back log since I usually don't like superhero games. Usually because of bad writing. I thought the villains were well written with good voice actors but they did a horrible job with Batman and I can't stand the voice actor they picked for him. Batman voice actor made it a struggle for me to keep going. Everyone says the combat is fun but I don't see it but this game is ten years old so maybe it was good for the time. I only recommend if your a hardcore Bat fan wanting something to do but this wont convince people that are not fans to convert.

You constantly get swarmed by an ABSURD number of enemies, giving you no chance at all do do anything other than mashing triangle in order to counter, let alone maybe getting to do something cool with the myriad of gadgets you have. And not only do the enemies always outnumber you 5, 10, even 20 to one, but they each also take a laughable amount of hits to knock out. You could, in theory, do a ground takedown once you've knocked them down, but in practice, you will NEVER have a chance to do that in open combat because you will always get interrupted and take a hit, so it's not even worth attempting.

And honestly, the stealth encounters with a room full of armed guards might not be as infuriating as the fist-fights, but they are giant pace killers and not really fun, either, to the point where I found myself audibly groaning whenever I stumbled into one of these. The mechanics are just way too restrictive to make stealth feel rewarding in this game, like it does in e.g. Metal Gear Solid.

I finished Arkham Asylum and it really is very good. I haven't finished Arkham City yet, but I'm already very disappointed due to the excessive FPS drop in the game. Frustrating and shameful! A PS3 game running poorly on PS4. Arkham Asylum was fine, but Arkham City was poorly remastered.

    A heartwarming welcome.

Returning to the original two Arkham games were an absolute blast, however, it is not without its faults. The need to make a game 'look amazing' by brightening up the colours and taking most of the shadows out of the game are quite polarising (More so in Arkham Asylum, a game that was praised on its dark tone.) I liked the Batman Arkham games on PS3. I thought Return to Arkham on PS4 would improve on that. It's just a barely noticeable difference between the two. Only buy if you're a hardcore Bat fan. It's not bad, but not really worth it.

I think we can all agree on all the three Batman games made by Rocksteady were ahead of it's time. True definition of Masterpiece and Banger. I played this for the first time in 2022 September and I Loved every second of it, like wow can't believe these games were released in 2009 and 2011. I mean sure its a remaster by STILL. 10/10 Truly greatness.

Sometimes you hate a game and sometimes the game is even too poor to be hated.
Very bad remaster. The graphics are outdated and dull with a low frame rate. The voice-acting and voice-over videos were amateur. The game mechanics are boring (spoil Circle and Triangle).
The game gave me no feeling. I was so bored I could not play any more than an hour.

Asylum is amazing, City is okay for me. I love the story of both (minus the fan service :V) but City is glitchy, achievements don't pop up sometimes even though you've done the requirements to get said achievements. Bad.

Batman is back on its two first iterations from Rocksteady. Both game keeps being awesome in its mechanics and storytelling, but Virtuos has added new colors that made the games less darker. The games shows new textures and lighting, but its frame rate is less stable than on the original games. Anyway, worth playing if you haven't already.

Batman: Return to Arkham is a good, but not great, package. The games have both aged very well and are still plenty of fun to play, and the remaster allows newcomers to experience them. However, the inconsistent remastering job means that it's tough to be overly impressed. Return to Arkham is effectively a mediocre port of two excellent games. If you've never experience the Arkham games before, then this is a good starting point, but returning fans may be more disappointed than excited by some of the changes. There's still a lot to like in the collection, and the nagging flaws aren't enough to distract from the excellent games.

Return to Arkham contains two fantastic games, with a visual upgrade. Both games are still fantastic, but Asylum has lost some of it's charm. Also both games suffer from occasional framedrops, but nothing drastic. So this is definitely worth your money!
