A truly fantastic little game. It's very short but what you get in that time is extremely well polished and creative. This is a return to Batman as more of a detective than Batman as a kick-everybody's-ass super hero. It reminded me of watching the old Adam West Batman show as a kid and solving puzzles with the help of the Bat-computer. It is however a very dark game, as in creepy and sad. It's a must have experience though for any PSVR owner. I can only hope more is on the way from Rocksteady. Expand

A great Virtual Reality show with very nice graphics, very immersive, with good definition and nice textures. Despite that gameplay is too limited and linear. Very low duration (about an hour).

Yes, it IS good, and it'll tickle you if you're a Batman fan but it's ridiculously short. How short? Well, you're in Wayne Manor, then you're in the Batcave, then a crime Scene, then the morgue, then on top of a building to interrogate Penguin, then you're trapped in a cage, then you're in Arkham, then it ends. Batman Arkham VR is probably one of the best introductions to VR for first time players. You move from room to room solving puzzles and generally just messing around with stuff. I would love to see a bigger project from this same developer.

The games length might not be the longest one but the price its asking for is totally worth the experience.

You just feelThe single most incredible gaming experience I have ever had since a friend first gave me floppy disks of Doom 24 years ago. It is hard to describe. I have tried another PS4 VR game, Robinson's Journey, which is fine, but Batman somehow convey a sense of weight and substance to the environments and characters that makes everything seem much more as if it is really there. You just feel overwhelmed and surrounded by a gritty but beautiful city - everything from the fallen leaves and rain puddles to the zeppelins overhead, to the bricks inches from your eyes as you stand on a fire escape peering into windows, to the strength and substance of Nightwing and Robin who are perfectly animated in the most natural way possible - it must all be motion capture. This is not even to mention the beautiful lighting and sound.

Right away with the opening, witnessing Batman's origin as your parents fall dead to your left and right is the most meaningful way to experience that origin tragedy. The use this game makes not only of the VR headset, but of the move controllers which have you reaching and turning objects in the game, taking things from and handing things to other characters, as well as the use the game makes of the PS4 camera which allows you to literally in the real world walk left to right about 7 feet and front to back as far back as my living room allowed before I hit the sofa, also lends a visceral sense that you are really in this other palpable credible concrete place.

The gameplay is not Arkham City or Arkham Asylum gameplay. This is not an action game. It is traditional point-and-click style adventure game where you move around first person MYST style (except for the area in which you can actually walk back and forth and toward and away from the camera), utilizing gameplay where you search for and put together clues including one cool scene in which you reassemble a smashed bomb detonator by manipulating the broken pieces with your hands and put them together like a 3D jigsaw puzzle. I almost didn't buy this game due to the MYST style movement but now I realize it is to prevent nausea which, in VR games, can become a real issue. I was unprepared for how much that MYST style movement just did not bother me, partly because within a small area you always can walk around.

The game is short but when you consider the sheer massive amount of detail - more than in any game I've ever seen - you realize that a great deal of work went into this. I prefer a shorter game that is so strikingly beautiful and full of minute detail, over a longer more stylized game with simplified environments.

Finally, the puzzles are enjoyable but not very difficult. I would prefer a choice of difficulty levels that makes puzzles more difficult on the harder setting. The voice acting, including Mark Hammill as The Joker, is as good as it gets. The character animations are perfect.

My strong advice is to get this game.

Technically the game is pretty good with great recognition of movements and some of the most beautiful graphics you will encounter on VR (at this point), there's absolutely no motion sickness and you can play the game for several hours straight. The only setback is some minor collision issues when you hold an object in your hands.

Concerning the gameplay it's mainly puzzle solving where you use the different gadgets of the batman to advance further in the story, those puzzles are clever while logical so you shouldn't encountered any frustration from those.

The story is set between Arkham City and Arkham Knight and it's quite enjoyable for any Batman aficionado. But the main issue of this game is its length, count between 1 and 2 hours to finish the main story, of course the riddler puzzles will add 2 more hours but for a 20 €/$ price tag its still way too short.

In conclusion Batman Arkham VR is a good example of how great VR is and all the possibilities it opens. But the industry must have a better idea of the price compared to the value as this game is worth closer to a 10$/€ pricetag in my opinion due to its small length.

It's clearly a launch title in that way, showcasing a lot of neat variety while not intended to dive into great depth on any one piece.

There are fighting scenes, Coroner work type scenes so on, the fighting scene is so real looking and up in your face that when they are coming at you it makes you want to try and dodge the people, but you cant. Now the Coroner scene is a little nasty and a bit more nasty than any other scenes in the game (its more of a movie than a game but a movie you control) but thats only 10 minutes of the game, maybe 20-25. The game also at the end gets a bit frightening if you played it you know what im talking about, when you are going to save Robin, but that really only is around 20 minutes maybe 30 minutes of the game. Best part about the game I would say is experience you get then I would have to say visuals and of course being able to see Joker like almost in person (thats how real it is). Now the bad its not really the game but more of a tracking, but when you are playing the screen shakes a little which when you are done you will have weird feeling eyes, but other than that everything is positive besides the little time you get in the game. So I rate it a solid 8 now it would be a 9 if they added like 2 or more hours to the game, hopefully it happens later on in VR's life. Expand

The only reason I don't give this a 10 is due to length. The main story can be completed in about an hour. For the price, I feel this is a little short. However, there is some fun in replaying the game, as there are scavenger hunt mini-games that are unlocked after completing the story that are a pretty fun reason to go back and play through the game again.

I liked the story, since it provided a bit of insight into Batman's descent into madness, but it added little to the amazing story that "Arkham Knight" was. The Riddler collectibles scattered throughout the game as you finish give little replay-ability and even then, I didn't bother to finish them as they were painfully boring. There are little knick-knacks to find in the Batcave that are interesting, but can only hold one's attention for so long. Ultimately, what could've been a better game was squandered by rushing a game that was barely finished enough to sell. However, getting to dab in a mirror as Batman is definitely the best VR experience I've had to date. Expand

Extremely well polished VR experience, not really a game, and most important it is a good way too short for this price tag. I got it on sale but it still feels too pricey.

Bit disappointed with this even though I bought it cheap on sale. Thought it might be a good introduction for me to Batman games since I'm not very into combat stuff, but in reality the ending (which I won't spoil) was kinda lost on me because I didn't know some stuff that happened in previous Arkham games. I went back to see if I could have some fun with the Riddler bits, and just foundBit disappointed with this even though I bought it cheap on sale. Thought it might be a good introduction for me to Batman games since I'm not very into combat stuff, but in reality the ending (which I won't spoil) was kinda lost on me because I didn't know some stuff that happened in previous Arkham games. I went back to see if I could have some fun with the Riddler bits, and just found them super frustrating. I had to look up online just to find out what I was meant to do, let alone how to do it. The official game manual is no use, but I did get some help on unofficial websites. I feel like I play enough games to generally get how games work, but it felt like I was lacking explanation at various points with this one and just waiting around for ages to accidentally guess the right thing.

I found the aiming of the batarang and grapnel gun kinda wonky so it wasn't quite as fun as it could have been.

The good stuff: I enjoyed looking around at the environments. Some of the story moments were cool on my first run through. No motion sickness.

Batman: Arkham VR plays like a long demo with highly detailed and immersive environments and fun (if one-dimensional) gameplay. For Rocksteady’s first attempt at a VR game, Arkham VR is a solid foundation for what we hope will be future episodic installments. What the game lacks in mobility and action it makes up for in storytelling and satisfying object interaction. Overall Arkham VR is a taste of the potential virtual reality can offer the series, but leaves us wanting more varied gameplay. [Tested with PSVR]

Batman: Arkham VR isn’t a terrible VR experience — it even manages to deliver a satisfying twist ending to the short narrative — but it’s a far cry from the type of game fans want or expect. What was shipped here is little more than a tech demo, or a museum of objects and features that are never fully realized. Just as each scene from the game starts to feel like its picking up some steam, it’s over and you’re onto the next vignette of content. Die hard Batman fans will find enough fan service to warrant a purchase, but if you’re looking for an actual game featuring the Dark Knight in VR, then you’re better off waiting a while longer.

A moderately interactive tour of familiar locations and themes (like the murder of Bruce Wayne’s parents). It’s not bad, but sometimes the illusion bursts (objects you throw bounce off an invisible cage you’re in) and it’s a short, one time experience. [13/2016, p.77]
