The gameplay was enjoyable at first, but not deep or complex enough to hold up over the extraordinary length of the game. Combat was good, but became repetitive. Visual were stunning in my opinion.

The combat is fine, it doesnt really feel challenging nor is there a lot of skill expression.

The map is beautiful and exploration would be fun if you actually got any meaningful rewards from it but they made loot so rare that you almost never find a cool weapon or armor upgrade.

Overall not a good game unfortunately and I feel like I wasted a lot of time with it.

Also there were alot of bugs, one which forced me to restart.

So far everything is like promised, you can raid, you can go in stealth, you can wear hood, you have hidden blade, story is solid, i'm enjoying it.

This is the best Assassin's Creed I have played in my opinion. There has been a lot of common negative criticism I disagree with that I will address here:

Not enough loot - I 100% disagree. There is plenty of axes, swords, shields, daggers, etc., and I think 5 or 6 separate types of armor to upgrade. It is not overwhelming, but still very customizable. Right now, I am dual wielding a spear and dagger, but you can dual wield two great swords, your more standard sword and shield, the flail is fun to play with, warhammers carry a different style, etc. Trust me, there is plenty of loot.

Combat - The combat in Odyssey and Origins made you a fighting god right from the start. Valhalla makes you earn it. A lot of the negative reviews say the combat is slow and clunky. At first, it kind of is. But you know what, it makes you feel like a viking! Storming villages and swinging a sword wildly seems realistic to me. As you progress, the combat becomes much more in depth and fluid, but the game makes you earn it. Sorry, but you will not be a combat god from the start, which I think is a good thing.

Lack of Stealth - I disagree. I've cleared out enemy encampments blowing my horn and having my whole crew rush in. I have also cleared out encampments without anyone noticing me. It takes patience, but definitely possible and anyone who disagrees probably isn't good enough at it.

Bugs - I am on patch 1.0.2 and the bugs are not nearly as bad as described in the reviews. All my saves have been fine and the game has crashed once in almost 40 hours of gameplay. There are some minor visual bugs I've noticed, but they have not been common at all for me and really haven't taken anything from the game for me.

All in all, this game is amazing. In both Origins and Odyssey, after about 20 hours, I felt like I was doing chores and got bored. I'm almost 40 hours in to this one and can't stop playing or thinking about it when I'm not playing. The map is much less congested, and the markers that are there lead you to meaningful, useful, and usually interesting things. The inventory and quest lists are no longer overwhelming and the way side quests are set-up make the story and play go way more smoothly.

    Best Assassin's game I've played.

Story is surprisingly good, it almost sucks to bring it out like some BIG thing, but Odyssey's story was too "all over the place" and boring, at least to me. It had way too much pointless filler. Valhalla actually innovates a lot and feels more like Black Flag and Unity in 2020.

    @ "rallianto"

"Classic Ubisoft"?, are you delusional? Just cause this game wont run perfectly on your 2013 console doesn't mean it's bad or something. People are enjoying it on PS5 and PC more than any other AC game in long time. You should give you reviewing because that's just pathetic. AC Valhalla is amazing open world game, specially after today's 1.0.4 update and of the best games

AC Valhalla is amazing open world game, specially after today's 1.0.4 update and of the best games of 2020. Only reason ps4 version has low user score is because some angry asian made over 20 fake accounts and gave it o's. Looks at all other user scores for AC Valhalla (PC, PS5 and so on, everything is over 7.6). Youtube videos posting about Valhalla get every day 100 000s of views, this game sold over 2million copies and was biggest launch in Assassin's Creed history. You can make up your "classic ubisoft" lies all day long, but this game already won. Deal with it. Reality is that you are not actual Assassin's Creed fan, but you are trying to find ways to whine about it anyway to promote some trash games that you like. Weak attempt at that.

I'm also happy that one-shot assassination is back, something that should have always been there, i have no idea why it was even taken out, it makes no sense. Anyway it's back and works just like in older games. Map is huge, specially England, Norway is big enough too. Everything is not absolutely perfect obviously, but i wasn't expecting it to be, specially in year like 2020. What i mean by that, some bugs. But overall it's very good AC game. Here's a question for everyone who give score between 0 and 3, are you banned from youtube? Is it so difficult to watch some gameplay, before you buy it? I actually strongly doubt they even have it.

Been hardcore Assassin's Creed fan since 2013 and i'm very impressed with Valhalla. Without a question it's one of the best in the series taking elements from Origins and Black Flag, while also adding something completely new. I personally found "Ghost of Tsushima" pretty boring compared to Valhalla, but these games shouldn't be compared anyway, because they are very different. Loving the game so far, nevertheless and I am not sure of the reason why but (maybe it is the landscapes, or maybe the theme in general, a personal preference) I enjoyed Odyssey much more! Not saying Valhalla is a bad game, I am very fond of every aspect Valhalla offers, but boy I miss Odyssey, and I will replay it sooner or later (probably same for Valhalla). Highly recommended! :)

Solid Assassin's Creed game, other than meh performance at times and some bugs, i have nothing really bad to say. They should bring it to steam, then it would be way easier to review this game. This user score should be way higher than it is, it's very clear that some user has made many fake accounts to give 0's to this.

Darker tone reminds me Unity and i love Unity, Parkour is better than last 2 games, Big open world and story remind me Black Flag and i love Black Flag. It has two maps, not one, that's first time they have done that. You can swim underwater just like in Odyssey and there' stuff to discover underwater, on land and underground. One of the better games of 2020 imo.

So many dislikes and for what? I don't believe these people ever cared about AC.
There's so much salt in these comments that have given 0-4 score, i don't believe they even own this game. Very often they they have only 1-2 reviews. I have also 1 review, but only reason i made this account was to point out this hypocrisy.

Not bad at all, specially compared to 2018's Odyssey. Valhalla has actually some decent depth and more times it's enjoyable than not. I'm not saying it's perfect, no it's not, but it's solid comeback that i wasn't even ready for. More of this and even deeper next time!

There are far fewer cookie-cutter outposts than in previous AC’s, and most sidequests now offer an interesting story, sometimes even with a less-than-obvious solution. While some anti-grind measures have backfired, Ubisoft is on the right track. [Issue#250, page 56]

Assassins Creed Valhalla is a wonderful addition to the AC franchise. It manages to avoid the tropes that became overplayed and focuses on a small well structured story. The fighting mechanics are enjoyable and offer many choices to fit different playing styles. There are a significant amount of bugs and the AI is underwhelming at times. But it's still another step in the right direction for Ubisoft.

When Valhalla is at its best, it evolves series mechanics. And when you’re cruising down river, about to blow your raiding horn, there’s nothing quite like it. [Issue#183, p.71]
