But Valhalla is a step back to frustration, bugs, moving away from the shadowy creed we all love. Poor controls often let you down when sneaking and turn a game of shadows into a repetitive hack and slash bore. It would have been ok if the fighting was any good, but somehow they messed that up. Without spoiling too much, there is a place similar to that odd tropical island in RDR2 that I just can't understand why they added to the game. You play a bloodthirsty viking in a foreign land, but too often do you have to engage in politics (walk around and talk to different people) and compete in rhyme (game of words). Graphics are also a rather big step back from the latest 2 instalments that were very impressive. And don't get me started on the singing. I want to run that longboat aground as soon as the *** crew starts that tedious mumbling. Any psalm is more upbeat than that torture. Vikings high on mushrooms going on a raid, and you think that is the sort of songs they chant? I will most likely play through this one as well, but it's just due to lack of options right now. I can't keep playing dead cells forever... Expand

Layla Hassan’s next chapter in Assassin’s Creed Valhalla is grand, beguiling, and ferocious, but feels a bit slight out of hand where it doesn’t actually feel like an actual AC game we all know and love. It is indeed the darkest Assassin’s Creed entry you’ll ever play trust me on that one.

I would score this much better if the graphics on PS4 PRO didn’t look so dated and if the combat was more fluid. AC4, Origins and Odyssey all look and play better. There are new elements here like settlement building and the plot (I’m early in the game) seems to be alright.

Not bad, but worse than previous parts. Nice environment as always, i would say perfect. I loved the water and the waves especially. The sun's beams are awesome. But that's all. The storyline is extremely weak. Boring. In every location you perform the same scenario... Can't say anymore to not reveal spoilers, but if you don't play this game you won't lose anything.

It's a good game but not as good as Odyssey was. Would have liked to have seen more focus on combat rather than needless filler content. Still, I have enjoyed my time with. it looks gorgeous and traversing the map and synchronizing locations is better than ever.

The first 7 hours are tough because its kinda boring and your learning the controls. A lot of glitches and sloppy combat BUT im 25 hours in and I just keep wanting to play. Buy the game for sure but know its just ok.

Assassin's Creed games feel quite average after playing Ghost of Tsushima. Step it up Ubisoft. This game doesn't have any wow factor. Just your typical regurgitated Ubisoft game. These games need something different. Something new. This ain't it and at today's standards it just doesn't cut it.

So. Many. Bugs and glitches. As soon as I left Norway the bugs came hard and fast. I would definitely have given the game a higher score if it had run well. Also why the American accents in medieval England!? That's just stupid. Other than that though, I think it would have got an 8.not as good as odyssey, but pretty damn good

I will say that while in Norway I was impressed, I immediately found that changes fans asked for from the last AC creed game were made for Valhalla. So I should be yelling from the mountains how awesome this game is right?

WRONG!! Unfortunately, Valhalla, even with it's improvements and new additions to gameplay somehow still comes up short. The more you play Valhalla, the more tedious it gets and honestly, boring is a great word to describe the experience. The only thing I really enjoyed was the story, and even the story could get dull and dragged out at times. In the end, after everything, I could not help but feel a sense of pointlessness to this game.

I played on a PS4PRO and the graphics were fine, but sometimes it looked like a PS3 game with the framerate struggling. Combat felt okay at best, thank goodness for brutal decapitations and finishers. Immersion just never found me with all of the boring and tedious exploration, defeating elite enemies and beast that reward you with nothing. Oh, a new tattoo? Gee, thanks! I'll just go and put that new cool tat on my back while I wear a full suit of cool Viking gear!

Ubisoft cannot seem to decide what kind of game they want their Assassins Creed series to be anymore and the fans are suffering for it.

It's good but I highly recommend beating it as fast as possible. It reuses a lot of assets so you literally do the same thing like 7 times with a slightly different variant.

And towards the end of the game you become so OP that fighting becomes a chore.

But while I do like Valhalla, I'm not loving it. Because the game has ISSUES. And because the game is nowhere near as fun as the previous games.
First, there is the loot, or the lack of it. The game world only contains handful of armor pieces and weps to be found. Meaning that most chest you find, only contain basic crafting materials. Dull, to say the least!
Then, there is the buggy combat. There is a clear lag on how your character reacts to button presses, and sometimes the hero does not react at all! You are full stamina, and NOT stunned, yet your character just stands there, unmoving, as you try to hammer your shoulder buttons to get the darned hero hitting the darned enemy! Serious bugs alert!
Companions are likewise buggy. Half the time they just ignore you when you command them do stuff on the battlefield. Which can lead you not being able to complete objectives. Ouch!
And then there is the way the hero often gets stuck to the environment, meaning you have to fast travel to get him out!
So, lotsa bugs and glitches aplently. But that's not my main issue.
The main issue is the Vikings themselves.
Now, if you've seen the brill Vikings TV series (2013 onwards), you know how bada*s Vikings can be when done right. Unfortunately, the Vikings in Valhalla are embarrassingly weak and unconvincing when compared to the bada*s Vikings of the Vikings (tm) TV series. Ha, Rollo alone could wipe out these weedy Vikings. With one hand tied behind his back!
Sure, you meet some real macho characters along the way, which helps, but its kinda sad when your hero feels a lame-o wannabe Viking...
So, Ubi did not get the Vikings quite right. They should've been lot tougher, and lot more merciless too. As it is, you get game over if your Vikings kill too many civilians in the game... Sigh...
But hey, on the positive side, the game looks utterly brill on PS4Pro, and runs very smoothly too. And once they clear the bugs, it'll be lot more fun to play. And the skill tree is pretty solid.
So, 8/10 from me. Good game, but could've been so much better.
Added later; I have to drop the score to 7. This is due to the heroes of Valhalla turning out to have zero charisma and personality. Far cry from the incredibly charismatic historic characters you met in ACII, III and Unity. When we meet characters like, say, Thor, in games, they're supposed to impress the heck outta us, Ubisoft, not bore us to death.
Also, I'm sick of the recurring drug episodes in the game. All Ubisoft games have drug infused, hallucinogenic episodes, prolly because Ubisoft crew is anxious to explain away their own drug habits, but in Valhalla, there's just too much of them. Not all gamers say yes to drugs, Ubisoft, even if you do.

Assassins Creed Valhalla is a wonderful addition to the AC franchise. It manages to avoid the tropes that became overplayed and focuses on a small well structured story. The fighting mechanics are enjoyable and offer many choices to fit different playing styles. There are a significant amount of bugs and the AI is underwhelming at times. But it's still another step in the right direction for Ubisoft.
