Despite some minor gripes, its clear that Apex Construct represents the way forward for VR videogames, an absorbing, intriguing experience that draws you in with a rich world complete with is own history and mysteries to be unravelled as well as a fluid combat system. Apex Construct is the standard by which future VR titles will be judged, and an indicator that VR has stepped up its game.

Sure: You’ll find something to complain about in almost every aspect of the game - except the great narrative. But Apex Construct with all its flaws is more than the sum of its parts. It is yet another thoroughly entertaining glimpse into how VR can inject immersion into known concepts to enhance the experience.

Apex Construct is neither long nor perfect, but it's an intriguing and immersive adventure. The controls sometimes work against you, the pacing can slow down a bit too much, and the story isn't as surprising as it could be. What's left is a very good bow-and-arrow shooter with some excellent environmental storytelling and atmosphere that pulls you through from start to finish. After a few updates and quality of life improvements almost a year after its original release, Apex Construct is certainly a well-made experience on PSVR that will satisfy everyone in need of an original adventure built with VR in mind.

This is one of PS VR's more complete adventures. [Apr 2018, p.88]

One of the best action adventure games out there designed specifically for VR systems. Simple but well implemented game mechanics, nice graphics and an interesting background story all conform in one of the best PSVR games available.

Apex Construct is a perfect example of just how far VR games have come and shows that VR gaming isn't just a gimmick. It's clearly going to be the next step for gaming. However, it also shows some of the glaring issues still being faced with the technology. The controls are still difficult, with the system of teleporting rather immersion-breaking and the wand-style controllers still not quite fitting the bill. Regardless of its flaws, this is one of the best VR experiences currently available and a must experience.

Even with the occasional boneheaded design choice, there’s still so much that Apex Construct does right. The absorbing level design, outstanding voice acting, and competitive combat all prove to be fantastic uses of PlayStation VR. Ultimately, the game feels like a very promising glimpse into the potential future of the platform.

Though not without its faults, Apex Construct offers up an attractive, cleverly constructed and well crafted marriage of action and puzzle solving elements that demands your attention.

Apex Construct transports you to a new world full of action and exploration. It isn't the most original game for VR, but it's very enjoyable and the combat is very satisfying.

APEX Construct manages what few others have – it creates a fully-fledged action adventure experience in VR. The levels are expansive and detailed, the story is intriguing enough to keep people trailblazing through each new area, and the combat – while occasionally frustrating – is just the kind of thing players looking to test their virtual bow skills will gobble up. It’s as good an adventure as I’ve seen in the made-for-VR world.

Monotony and lack of personality. Those are the only two problems that we have found in Apex Construct. If you can rise above them, you are going to find a really nice VR experience. A fascinating story, with a world plenty of secrets and details about itself, and fun action levels that are energetic and dynamic. You should give Apex Construct a chance.

Apex Construct is a decent PS VR game, with an intriguing setting and varied gameplay. The limited controls cause some annoyance, though, as does the loss of important credits throughout the game.

Apex Construct has a few too many niggling issues to be considered truly great but still remains a VR adventure you should absolutely undertake. It’s a rare chance to jump into an expansive journey and become a part of an engrossing world, warts and all. It proves that VR developers can now deliver the adventures we dreamed of having when we first picked up our headsets. The next step is to refine them enough to keep us believing we’re really there. For now, though, Apex Construct will do just fine.

Apex Construct provides some excellent exploration and exposition in a compelling and beautifully bizarre world. While there is a fully-baked experience here, the engaging story and compelling gameplay is marred by PSVR’s limited control scheme. It represents a step forward for the platform, and for storytelling, but a bit of polishing or patching would bring the controls to heel.

Apex Construct could have been a very good VR game. Unfortunately some technical and design issues make it not so memorable.

Apex Construct is sadly a missed opportunity: an intriguing plot is shadowed by far too many technical problems.

Apex Construct is a first person adventure which makes great use of bow and arrow mechanics, and feels truly immersive in VR, but we found some control problems due to the unusual rotation system, based in a combination of pressing buttons and movement control.

Apex Construct is heavily flawed, with a fun and fairly precise shooting mechanic unfortunately not enough to make up for the dismal movement controls and derivative narrative.

After a curious and intriguing beginning on all fronts, from the gameplay to the narrative, the experience of Apex Construct becomes canonical, not very innovative and monotonous.

A missed opportunity. Apex Construct is a first person adventure with an inspired design and some pretty good ideas, shadowed by some technical and design problems.

Getting killed because of unwieldy controls is nobody’s idea of a good time, and Apex Construct rubs salt into those wounds by removing un-banked experience points every time you die. Although not all bad, its sense of adventure and investigation is marred by eternally clumsy motion and combat.

Great narrative, voice acting and puzzle mechanics as well as small details like using commands on computers which ads to an immersive feel. Free locomotion works great in the same way skyrim does. The combat is pretty simple with just a variants of the bow but can become quite tough, certainly no coded hand holding. The aims work great with little to no tracking issues. And the graphics, oh man are they beautiful even on a standard PS4, very impressed indeed. This is a fully fleshed out game on par with a AAA full price, yet we get it at one third the price. The only con I have so far is the screen blacks out if you clip into things , it can be a bit annoying. Full Review »

Apex Construct is one of the rare games on PSVR that feels like a real game and not a demo or a gimmick. The story and storytelling is goodApex Construct is one of the rare games on PSVR that feels like a real game and not a demo or a gimmick. The story and storytelling is good with real nice voice acting. The environments are beautiful, and if you're lucky enough to know Swedish you'll have a couple of extra laughs over things found written here and there, as well as a nice feeling of being home in this warped post apocalypse like version of Stockholm. The controls works nicely, and I was glad to find you can change settings to drawing your bow with left hand. Shooting the bow, dodging and blocking attacks with a shield feels pretty cool. I'm super prone to motion sickness in VR but have had no problems in Apex Construct because of the teleport mode of transportation. There are elevator trips that make me queasy, but they're short so I just close my eyes for a couple of seconds.

A lot of input in the game is typed on large virtual keyboards, and that's a bit of a pain since you write the same thing over and over. Very quickly I wondered why there couldn't just have been an "open" button to press instead of having to type it repeatedly. Also the terminals where you type this have a small font, and whenever I leaned closer to read it the game auto adjusted its position so the terminal popped away from me and I had to bend over double to squint at it at a distance. All the information is however stored and readable in your home base, and there the font is large and easy to read. I could not find any subtitles for the game which is kind of a bummer, maybe there will be in a later patch.

The game feels intuitive, immersive and engaging. Is it the best game ever made? No, it's not. But considering what's available on PSVR right now it is without a doubt among the best PSVR games.

Love this game. Great world, fun bow and arrow mechanic. And the sound and music is awesome! Finally a real game for PSVR.
