Bought. Played and enjoyed it. It's all good. Nice feature that you can switch seamlessly between old and new visuals mid game with the click of one button. The controls feel a little aged in their own right but go through this without any negativity in your head and you'll enjoy it. Especially if you're a fan of the original. Though to be fair, I can barely look at the original now afterBought. Played and enjoyed it. It's all good. Trophies got me playing the game a few times over. Yeah, a casual run can take 1-2 hours or maybe a little more if you die often. But all in all, if you do a few playthroughs you'll get a decent length in it. Along with the classic mode, you can squeeze in a little extra time. Boss rush mode is quick. 4 bosses, though one hit and you're a goner.

It's fun. The music is really great. New players may find it a challenge, which is partially down to the controls. I was paying £24 for it and even saw it priced higher elsewhere. I do think somewhere below £20 would have been a better deal for what you're getting. Yeah, it's cheaper than your fully fledged AAA titles and all. But it's still just a little pricey for a box of such small content. Maybe I'm harsh on it. But it's fine, I enjoyed it all the same.

Would I recommend it? Yes 100% to people who played the original or any gam in the Alex Kidd series. As for newcomers? Give it a bash if you've got money. It won't take a lot of your time up and just go through and enjoy it. I've seen negative reviews and I honestly think people need to lighten up a bit, seriously. If you're tight on cash, that's when I'd say, hold off for this to get cheaper. I assume it definitely will be on sale. But otherwise, buy, enjoy, and feel frustrated at certain points throughout, ha!

I'm probably sold on the fact this game looks amazing and the fact the soundtrack is just a wonder to listen to. This game is still difficult unless you have unlimited lives added on it but its fun.

I had a wee read through the critic reviews. Maybe the didn't play the game enough, but the bosses are absolutely not luck based. You have multiple chances to get an item that tells you what the boss will pick in the rock paper scissors battle. And the pattern they pick is fixed! It's not a guess. Learn what they pick and it will always be that.

Overall I found Alex Kidd to be just like I first played it over 30 years ago. I’ve given it an 8 out of ten because there are a few things missing. When you hit a ghost box you could hit two money boxes and it would disappear, it doesn’t in the re created version. You also can’t get a continue by holding down a controller button and A (whatever it is on the PS4 controller, I’ve tried allOverall I found Alex Kidd to be just like I first played it over 30 years ago. I’ve gotten so far only to lose everything. I wasn’t keen on the other version that came with it either. Old school through and through. I’ve seen a few reviews saying the Rock Paper Scissors challenges are all won by chance…. No!!! If you pay attention to the other side, you can choose yours accordingly. It was the same in the old version too! Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view.

You are at least able to turn on Infinite Lives to make a playthrough more bearable – honestly, it must’ve been a miracle that we beat Miracle World back in the day. While some players may be charmed by the power of nostalgia, for others it’s a reminder why Sega sacked Alex as mascot. [Issue#4, p.77]

The return of Alex Kidd is pretty good, but will not be unanimous among the players. Graphically, the studio offers us a very beautiful game with detailed environments and high quality cartoon characters, all enhanced by effects of light and volumetric smoke. What can scare off more than one is its punitive side: you have little life, and even if the defeat does not send you back to the start of the entire game like its predecessor, it is frustrating to have to restart the current level at because of a simple skip error. The game is clearly intended for die-hard fans of the series or for the curious who did not have the chance to play it on Master System under the initial conditions. However, if you are not afraid of learning the levels by heart, I can only recommend it, at least to enjoy its visual aspect.

Alex Kidd in Miracle World DX places me in a bit of a difficult position. On the one hand, I feel fairly confident that fans of the original game will be able to come into this and receive a heaping helping of soul-warming nostalgia. The graphical updates are pleasing to the eye. The updated music may not always carry the game’s tone that it is playing over, but it still sounds great. And there are even a few added levels and slight tweaks to previously existing ones to surprise players. For those people, my numeric rating would be more likened to a 4 out of 5. However, for folks like myself that are experiencing this for the first time for any reason other than a history lesson will be confronted with annoying controls and a somewhat serviceable but unexciting adventure that, in this reviewer’s opinion, didn’t quite stand up to the test of time.
