Air Conflicts: Pacific Carriers PlayStation 4 Edition has some moments of fun gameplay, whether its shooting down an enemy plane of torpedoing a ship. It’s a shame that it’s so hard timing bomb drops and the little impact they often make.

It has a solid base, but poor visuals, the lack of new features and being quite predictable end up making it a game that will only appeal a very small audience.

Air Conflicts: Pacific Carriers is another flight game in the Air Conflicts series along with Air Conflicts: Secret Wars and Air Conflicts:Air Conflicts: Pacific Carriers is another flight game in the Air Conflicts series along with Air Conflicts: Secret Wars and Air Conflicts: Vietnam. If you have played another game in the series then you already know a lot about how planes fly in this one - the left stick rolls the plane into right and left turns and pitches the nose up and down. In "arcade" flight mode the plane returns itself to a flat flying plane when the plane comes out of a rolling turn - in "simulation" mode the rudder pedals are added on the trigger buttons to slew the plane right and left on a flat plane without rolling. Handling is much more crisp in "arcade" mode than "simulation" - even fighters tend to wallow around with the back end of the plane "skidding" in tight turns if there isn't sufficient speed. Flying is more difficult than arcade flyers like the Ace Combat series; even on the default "pilot" difficulty level the planes seem underpowered compared to more "arcade" style flying games, and maneuvers begun too close to the ground will often result in a stall and a crash. Also, barrel rolls and Immelmann turns are seemingly impossible because the camera flips upside down and the control direction switches after the plane goes past 90 degrees - a thoroughly confusing result that usually leads to a mad scramble to pull up and find the horizon before the plane slams into the sea or island below.

Sound and graphics are passable, if a bit last-gen. The water effects are well rendered and feature sea life like cavorting dolphins and breaching whales. The sounds of plane engines, guns and explosions all sound authentic, but lack a bit of low-end "punch." Plane models are well-rendered and the game runs smoothly, with no stuttering or hesitating even with 20+ planes on-screen.

The campaign can be played from the point of view of the US Navy or Imperial Japanese Navy, while the "instant battle" game mode allows dogfights and bombing missions against US, Japanese, British and even German (!) aircraft. The campaign gives the player some latitude - it is set up in stages, with "battles" available along with generic patrol missions. Pilots accumulate experience and skills like "ship killer," which does extra damage to ships (quite handy when dive-bombing!) The player plays as many battles and missions as they like before moving on to the next stage - the battles are apparently based on real islands and campaigns.

My only gripe with the game is with torpedo bombing - I am thoroughly unable to get a torpedo into the water and running without it either blowing up on contact with the sea (along with a warning to "slow down") or having my aircraft stall and drop into the drink. To compensate, I have been arming my torpedo bombers with large 1,000 lb bombs and using them in a level bombing mode - they've actually done some good damage against ships when configured like this.

In summation, Air Conflicts: Pacific Carriers is a decent enough game (especially as a bargain title) with challenging but satisfying air combat and a deep campaign mode that looks as though it will provide varied experiences on the second and subsequent play-throughs.

Pick a side and take to the skies for intense dogfights, choose how many rivals you'd like to chase down and destroy.

Its not amazing graphics but they aint bad either, PS3 quality, maybe a bit better.

This is a great game for dads to play with their son's, its totally fine for youngsters to play and adults alike.

Anybody into WW11 games will enjoy this game, its nothing ground breaking but its a solid and fun game that got my heart pumping fast, theres nothing like having a Messershmitt on your ass trying to pump you you full of lead to get your heart pumping.

So all i recommend this as a really fun game, great for all ages and its not difficult to play either, i give it a 7/10, for the $20 i payed for the physical copy it was well worth it.

    cheers
