I feel I was a little too hard on this game at first. After having some more time with the game, and playing splitscreen with a friend, I can definitely tell it has potential. If the devs can iron out the bugs, and get the game running at 60 fps (I feel this game needs to be running at 60 frames, given it requires some pretty precise aiming), it will be an amazing game.

**Updated after less split-screen play. Non split screen manages the space a bit better as far as trying to cram in all the PC UI. I'm adjusting a bit to the controller shortcuts, but they're still not good/intuitive. I think I have the visuals nailed down to some weird lighting or antialasing that makes the tree kind of glowy against the sky. It doesn't look right. And the FOV is too narrow - it's like wearing a hoody in the zombie apocalypse. Not a good idea.

Oh - and have also had multiple save games fail to load again which really sucks after hours of adventuring and building.

But here's what's really keeping the score where it is (and lucky I don't bump it down):

THE LAG! OH DEAR GOD THE LAG! 3 seconds of lag every 10 - 30 seconds of play. Right in the middle of EVERYTHING! It's enough to make a grown man cry and throw his controller at the television. It's goddamn horrible and shameful and makes the game almost unplayable. DID I USE ENOUGH CAPS FUN PIMPS/TELLTALE!!!?? LAAAAAAAAGGGGGG!!!

First impressions are disappointing. I was expecting a next-gen console running a 2+ year-old pre-release game to have an amazing improvement in graphics and play over my middle-class PC. But my expectations were dashed. The game is buggy, appears to be an older version of the current PC release, makes little attempt to console-ize the interface (I now have to sit up against the screen of my 60 inch TV along with my daughter just to see what the tiny icons are), the inventory is a nightmare with no sorting or search, graphics are lower quality than my PC's and with very short draw distances. I could go on. The game needs a console tutorial, crafting especially (how to fly for example). The buttons and interface for placing/building is clunky and keyboard-oriented. Character customization has all sorts of flaws and glitches. Etc. Etc. I would go with, "well they ARE in pre-release." But how many years do you need in pre-release? At the least, it can't be an excuse for this level of disorder.

The pros are a pretty broad set of building blocks and a good crafting system. I'm still waiting for it on PS4, but the game CAN look really good. The world interactions are satisfying (also glitchy though on PS4) and reasonably paced. Weapons selection is decent even if combat leaves much to be desired. Zombies are cool and 7 Days makes really good use of them visually and audibly. There's much to be said for the terror felt while crouching in the dark corner of a basement listening to a horde swarm by outside. That's core zombie game fun.

I expect some quick sprucing up or I alas don't see the many hours that I had hoped would be spent on the console. Which is a shame, because this is a better game on PC, and still has the potential to be great if The Fun Pimps aren't just running out of money or attention span (the two not being mutually exclusive either).

In 2013, 7 Days to Die was green lit for Early Access on Steam where it currently resides, receiving numerous updates over time. In April earlier this year, it was announced that Telltale games would publish 7 Days to Die and bring it to PS4 and Xbox One. Unfortunately, the game was released with numerous technical issues on console, contributing to low review scores.

In 7 Days to Die, your goal is to survive. Each night will get gradually more difficult as zombies gain in numbers and become more aggressive. On the 7th night, you must survive a wave of the undead headed straight for your defenses. Fortify your base well enough and you will survive to the next week. Rebuild your defenses and repeat with a new horde of zombies spawning every 7 days. Simple right? There's more to it than just that.

Upon starting the game, you're told to craft a few basic items. After that, the tutorial is practically non-existent. The mechanics of the game aren't clearly conveyed so the game can be very overwhelming, especially for those not familiar with the crafting genre. For the first few hours of my playthrough, I had no idea where to start or what I should consider a priority so I just starting picking everything up for 2 hours. The game gives you no story or context and told to have fun in a giant sandbox. I was so lost that I ended up searching online for some sort of direction.

You will spend more time gathering resources and crafting items than you will in enemy combat. Crafting mechanics are akin to those in Minecraft and Fallout: hit everything and get resources to build your base and protect it tower defense style. Craft your weapons, craft your clothes, craft your base, craft everything. This, in turn, makes exploring for resources a huge part of the game. As the game is still in early access, the overall look of the game is really crude. It's not by any means a "pretty" game. Limited textures and landmarks make exploring unimaginative and repetitive. With poor animations, weak combat, and no clear objectives to follow, exploring is also difficult.

The game features a simple day/night cycle. During the day you get slow enemies and zombies that aren't much of a threat, and at night, you get faster, more aggressive zombies that actively seek you out. In addition, you must also be mindful of environmental threats as you explore. These include your core body temperature, hunger, or if you are carrying items that emit certain smells that attract the undead among other things. To combat these threats, 7 Days to Die has a very involved skill system with bonus perks. These skills affect everything from scavenging, character and weapon speed, to the use and modification of weapons. Points are assigned to the skills of your choice with points obtained at leveling. Of course, you need to look everything up to make sense of the system.

7 Days to Die offers 3 different modes to choose from. In Single Player, your goal is to survive for as long as you can without aid from other players. One of the game's saving graces is the ability to play couch co-op with a friend and team up to survive together. In this mode, outside players may attack and steal from you, making for a competitive playthrough. This is where the most fun you will have with the game takes place. Lastly, there is a Creative mode, for players that wish to explore and experiment without anything trying to murder them while they build their castles in the barren wasteland in peace.

Despite the low scores that 7 Days to Die has been receiving, the game is fun and even more so with friends. Now that the game has had a few updates and many bugs patched, its easier to see the game for what it is. 7 Days to Die is the idea that sounds good in theory but ends up buckling under its weight in practice. Unfortunately, the game suffers from a sort of identity crisis. I play this game and I see emulations of Skyrim, Fallout, Minecraft, Dead Island, and Don't Starve rolled into one bogged-down game without tutorials.

With a number of bugs still waiting to be patched, and a control scheme that was clearly not designed with console controllers in mind; 7 Days to Die is far from the game it could be. Is it worth the $30? Fans of crafting games and those looking for a challenging couch co-op game may say yes. Updates continue to be released to further stabilize gameplay and with new content being added periodically; it will be interesting to see where this game goes as it has already come a long way since 2013. For now, I would still wait for a few updates to release if you're planning to pick it up on the PS4.

This mesh between the games RPG progression system in combination with its crafting mechanics makes for an interesting experience. However, the game suffers from tremendous performance issues that spoil the core experience of this game. The game will freeze periodically for approximately 5-10 second intervals every 10 or so minutes of playing (Possibly a bug associated with the games autosave system). In terms of gameplay clunky best fits the description of how it feels to play this game. Walking speed is obnoxiously slow for a game that requires this amount of exploration. To give context the standard walking speed feels roughly the same as being over-encumbered in Skyrim. Running will be your main source of transportation which thankfully can be upgraded through the games Oblivion Esq skill system to run longer while using less stamina. Combat itself is janky and will pull you out of the games experience. Enemies will take a while to actually go down with blunt weapons. It is also worthy to note that there is no sound effect to swinging your weapon which makes the entire experience feel cheap. Most encounters will consist of standing in place hoping you stun the zombie before it stuns you. The games combat lacks the impact and stability needed to keep the player hooked. The graphics are notably fine considering the scope of the game although the games field of vision is beyond inexcusable. The split screen option, as well as the online matchmaking system, adds longevity to the games lifespan. On Launch Day this game is not worth the $30 asking price, I'd suggest waiting for eventual updates that address some of the issues mentioned above before purchasing yet another day 1 launch mess. Feels like 7 years to die
7 Days to die is a Minecraft style survival horror game,
as you use tools, craft items and slay zombies your skills and character levels up making your survival chances in this survival horror game even that much greater...
But unfortunately 7 Days to die puts more emphasis on survival than it does the horror, or the game…
This game moves at the pace of a slug…
What makes Minecraft so great is that while it is also a survival game about crafting and surviving from random attacks... it moves at a fairly quick pace…
You can build a shovel and dig a temporary shelter with sufficient lighting before the sun falls on your initial spawn…
Minecraft also makes essentials like a forge or torches very accessible from the jump….
7 Days to die goes against all of this…
For starters... This is no Minecraft other than the basic idea of gather materials, craft with those materials, and try not to die while you do this...
But building, crafting, combat, and scavenging all suffer due to the pacing this game has…
You collect items and build at a crawl…
you can definitely make a shovel, and axe fairly quickly as there are basic crafting materials like rocks and trees everywhere…
but once you go to dig a shelter you’ll quickly realize building in this world is going to be a chore..
You can’t swiftly build an underground shelter to revisit after a day of hunting and looking for supplies to slowly build a thriving chunk of land…
It’s going to take days upon days... youre better off finding a cabin around essential recourses and rebuilding…
Which honestly takes away the joy of owning the procedurally generated or hand crafted land you spawn into…
There’s no fun in upgrading something already built…
but thanks to how long it takes to destroy a block of dirt even with the hardness level turned down... you have no other choice….
You can of course make a building out of wood, as wood collecting is fairly easy… but with how often your tools will break, wood is a valuable recourse that you might as well collect to again just rebuild an already built home…
the hunger and thirst system in this game also hinders creativity as you never feel like you have time to really do anything other than find drinks and food…
During my time playing I found a corn field behind a cabin for food…
But I had no water source….
To make drinks I needed glass jars that I for the life of me couldn’t find…
luckily these glass jars can be crafted!
But to do that I needed to craft a forge...
    A basic essential…
But the crafting materials for this forge isn’t so basic…
I needed to go hunt animals…
While my character is dying of thirst… life slowly draining...
I had to hunt animals that are practically nonexistent in this world…
    There are deer...rabbits...bears...dogs...
    But good luck finding them...
Which again brings me back to Minecraft...
Animals are needed for armor in that game so they are reasonably findable…
They aren’t crawling all over the place, but if you actively look you will find some…
    That isn’t the case here…
A material you need for an essential basic to craft an item needed to create glass so your character doesn’t die of thirst is made unreasonably inaccessible…
I was in game for 6 real hours… and still didn’t have the materials for a forge…
My tools and character were just as basic as a fresh spawn…
I felt no sense of progression at all which in turn leaves me feeling frustrated.. Like I’m getting nowhere in this game…
I eventually started thinking what the point...is
    I can’t reasonably craft... I can’t build tunnel systems for materials…
I have no source of water….
what am I supposed to do other than not die…
There is such a deep crafting system here….
the idea of the scavenging hunt is a joy... you can create stronger materials to reinforce your shelter from zombie attacks, even craft guns and bullets...
Find schematics scattered throughout the world... find quests that will lead to treasures... but again the inaccessible survival basics with make all of this seem unobtainable…
As if you just can’t find animals for their hides... you’re going to be stick with the basics forever... that’s just how it is….
one missing puzzle piece will stop you from finishing… and once you do find them or any other materials you still have to deal with the over powered zombies… Zombies in this game are quick damage sponges that can somehow climb… You’ll be hitting them over the head with a club for what seems like forever while they just claw and scratch you dealing with more than one without a gun is near impossible… And you can’t just run as for some reason the developers thought it would be a great idea to allow them to stun you, so you can’t moves for like 3 seconds… just taking the damage… and once again you don’t just find guns in this game.. Character limit reached. Hear the rest on YT SuperkenGaming

Now there is a lot a fun to be had in the game itself playing with friends. The graphics are bad. It can be laggy sometimes. The UI is horrendous. Zombies are incredibly powerful and tough to kill. However, with all that and more the base game here is something that will be enjoyable with a friend. Building and trying to survive together is fun. Just know this game has it problems and it is hard. Otherwise enjoy.

Picked Clyde for my character, experienced some minor issues, deleted that save, started with Lee. Been great so far. Some slight polygon tearing here and there, but no game breakers. My girlfriend and I play split screen survival. I'll say this, if you are expecting to be blown away by graphics, don't. The primitive look is what makes the depth possible. Expect sort of a low budget ps3 type look to it, no big deal unless you are a graphics snob. As far as the game goes we are continually impressed at how much ha dot have gone into this, and its hella fun once you get up and going. You can expect to die. A lot. Set it up to where you only lose your tool belt to start, save yourself some headache. The frame rate stutters a bit, when the RAM is being taxed, but again.. not a game breaker. As far as bugs go, with the report system being pretty efficient I would imagine this game will be running smooth in a few months. In essence, its deep and fun. We haven't been able to put it down. You get it cheaper and are essentially helping test the game in this stage. Right now its a solid 6, later on could be a 7- 8 depending on what all they add. Add half a point for fun factor. It can be kinda a grind to collect all the materials you need sometimes, but I didn't think it got too out of hand. Combat with zombies is sorta simplified and not too extravagant. The AI is really bad, as in they are just homing missiles that try to get as close to you as they can and do "whatever action" they are capable of. I realize that they are "zombie" smart, but I've had them get stuck on tree's before. Everyone's already beat up on the simple graphics..so...there is that.

Where it went wrong for me is the lack of depth to this game. In the first seven to fourteen days you have potentially seen everything, and the updates with any real meat to them are few and far between now. It's a shame because this game COULD really go somewhere.

This game is really scratching an itch in terms of base building, survival and crafting. The combat and graphics are very lacklustre but in all honesty thats just not what this game is about. It does fit into that minecraft niche where graphics and combat are second to being able to interact and use everything you can see.

While the pricetag is very steep for what you get, I know already that this is a game i'm going to keep coming back too. My advice is to watch a few gameplay clips so you know what kind of interface your dealing with and if your still keen take the plunge, you might just be pleasantly surprised.
Splitscreen is great fun defending against the weekly hordes, I just hope a few major updates are included in the price not just DLC/bug fixes, too my knowledge we're not promised anything beyond the base game.

I can even honestly say that enjoy being attacked every seven days since it gives me something to work towards and that makes survival mode more fun for me unlike in a game like Minecraft for instance where it just feels annoying or in Conan Exiles where your waiting for a bar to fill up to actually have some fun against NPC's.

In all honestly, although it can be buggy at times, I've experienced fewer bugs in this game than I've experienced in AAA titles such as The Division.
The reason I think this is such a good game, is that the fundamental experience in this game is just really exciting, for half the price of a AAA title it has surprising depth to it, and as a result it will take you a while to get the hang of. You are always being challenged and you have to adapt, things to mind range from temperature, bears, hunger and thirst, and of course zombies. This game just has a way to always keep you on your toes.
At first look at the reviews and gameplay of this game I was hugely skeptical, but I liked the concept of the game and so took the plunge. Overall, I would definitely recommend it if you are interested in the survival-horror style gameplay, but I would warn that it certainly isn't the most polished game but it has huge potential.
At its current state I would give it a 7/10, but with bug fixes and bit of fine tuning this game could be a 9/10 which is great for a game that's half the price of a AAA title.

There is very little to look forward to, or even accomplish for that matter, making teh best parts of this game simply level grinding and messing around. Technically, this game should be about a 4/10 maybe even lower, but i enjoyed it for its local co op and messing around preferences. Expand

This game gets such a bad rep why?! They have fixed almost every lag problem and game play problem. there was. If you like a crafting game this one is for you. If pvp was better I would rate it higher.

Puedes construir un imperio, como el de Negan The walking dead, jugar solo y obtener recursos, o meterte en mundos ajenos y robar a los demás jugadores, ud escoge, pero el juego no vale más de 30 dólares.

Pretty good game overhaul. If you like minecraft you will most likely enjoy this game. Graphics could be 10 times better but you don't really realize it so much once you play it for a few hours.
Role play is important for this title.

This game is unique enough that I recommend everyone try it, at least on sale. I also note that as of April 2023 there are rumors of a significant patch coming for consoles. Even without it, this game offers something many will love but be forewarned that several flaws conspire to also make it a frustrating experience. I recommend going in blind, looking up things as they come up. TheThis game is unique enough that I recommend everyone try it, at least on sale. Even though this game has horrible graphics, and bad combat. The world generation, building mechanics and crafting crafting system makes it worth your time (especially with your pals). if you are looking for a decent game that is fun to pass the time with. This is not a terrible choice.

This game is great, and a lot of fun with friends.

However, the controls are a little rough at first, until you get used to them. They also need more added to it. After surviving and building up a base, the game gets too easy. Also, there is no reason the server should only hold 4 players. Specifically if they add a trophy to kill 2,000 other players. When only 4 people can join the game? That is ridicules.

The game could use a few updates and add more content to the game. But for what it is, it's still a lot of fun for a survival game.

Game is ok. It is nothing to write home about at all. Definitely not as bad as some would say. It's an acquired taste. Definitely a budget buy game.

It's a fairly enjoyable survival game, similar to Minecraft. It's worth picking up if it's on sale. Multiplayer is fun.

It's a very fun game, but console version was abandoned by the developers.
The game is completely different in PC version, better graphics, better anything.

It has a great potential, but had so many lag issues before so people bored from the game. They fixed it on most cases, but it still has lag issues time by time for multiplayer, but on the other hand, i like this game and i have played it for many hours. I hope they improve this game much more!

(I'm writing a rating about the PC version). Not a bad game, something in between Minecraft, Rust and DayZ. I played it for 100 hours, lived 71 days in Madness mode and I can say that there is a great variety: weapons, modifications, transport, many skills and types of zombies. There are also primitive, but quite diverse quests and merchants. Perhaps the main and significant disadvantage(I'm writing a rating about the PC version). To play it comfortably and without FPS drawdowns, you will need really powerful hardware. The gameplay component on servers with other players leaves much to be desired (due to a considerable percentage of cheaters). In general, I liked the game for me a solid 6/10. Expand

7 Days to Die previously needed a lot of work. It is now in a playable and downright fun state, with a strong crafting and scavenging element that often makes sense and keeps immersion in the survival setting. Zombies become more dangerous as time goes on, but so does the player, as long as they balance their survival with scavenging for better equipment and learning new skills, and 7 Days to Die does a better job staving off the difficulty plateau many survival games eventually succumb to. Following updates, the gameplay is sturdy and solid, built off of an already fun foundation.

Even three months and numerous patches after release, it’s clear that this project is nowhere near complete.Worse, the developers are clearly prioritizing the more successful PC version over this compromised port job. Console-owning fans of the survival genre may find something to enjoy in 7 Days To Die, but my advice is to steer clear all the same.

A compelling zombie concept thoroughly ruined by frighteningly horrid execution. [Sept 2016, p.74]
