A solid multiplayer offering, gore aplenty, a low price point, and general undead silliness make Zombie Apocalypse a fun diversion.

A very basic shooter, but it’s really fun. 55 levels full of zombies and the main thing to do is shoot them all. Gameplay is cool, but on long term repetitive.
  3. This undead-themed dual-stick shooter is good, dumb, retro fun.
  4. 74
Zombie Apocalypse is a great addition to both downloadable services. It is mindless fun that can feel repetitive if you let it.

Keeps things simple. [Jan 2010, p.95]
  6. At a relatively low price of around $10, those who get their kicks out of zombie massacres will find that Zombie Apocalypse is a good time. But for those over the whole "zombie thing" it's unlikely Zombie Apocalypse will change your mind, despite Nihilistic's solid arcade framework.
  7. The co-op multiplayer experience, well-implemented theme, and arcade price means it's a nice bit of valuable fun to pull out when your buddies come calling.
  8. Zombie Apocalypse is an enjoyable retro undead shooter romp with stacks of levels to tackle and makes for some ideal multiplayer action. It's plagued by some noticeable shortcomings, though, and probably won't keep your attention for the long haul.
  9. A fun dual-stick shooter that does the zombie genre well. Great for multiplayer of any kind. Lack of originality and clear repetition does hinder the game though.
  10. In single player mode, Zombie Apocalypse is not only hard - but it gets a bit boring after a few hours. This game is yet another one of those PSN-games that focuses on smooth multiplayer mechanics, which is welcomed - especially as we get to slaughter zombies.

While I don’t think Zombie Apocalypse is stupid, it is inconsequential.
  12. Either alone or within a team of four, brain-eating fun will sure be found.

The game might provide a fun, visceral thrill, at first. But by the end it becomes to mind-numbingly repetitive you may as well go gnaw on some flesh yourself.
  14. Zombie Apocalypse could have been entertaining and great. In comparison to other zombie games the developers deliver a game in which you will kill more zombies than ever for less money. It's a shame Zombie Apocalypse gets repetitive very soon though, and gives you the idea you're just running in circles. The multiplayer make up for it a little, but we can't call it more than a mediocre game.

    A disappointment. [Jan 2010, p.109]
  16. Unless you have never played a twin stick shooter before, or never played a zombie game, I can't imagine you would have any reason to play through Zombie Apocalypse, unless you have 3 friends online and you are really, really bored.
  17. Zombie Apocalypse plays out in a similar manner; it's good fun for a half hour, but then the game force feeds you the same content for whatever time you continue to invest in the game. Not exactly my idea of fun.
  18. By the time you hit the halfway mark, you’ll be sick of spinning in circles.
  19. Online and offline multiplayer gives Zombie Apocalypse a little extra pulse, but not enough to invigorate the burden of repetition.
  20. The main challenge is actually having the will to keep playing until the end. The downloadable gaming space is already saturated with twin-stick shooters, and while Zombie Apocalypse tries to stir up the formula by adding the already decaying - no pun intended - cliché of zombies into the pot, it ends up being just another shooter.
  21. A boring dual-joystick shooter that lacks the speed and intensity that the best games in the genre all share. Throw in a generic zombie theme and you're left with something that feels like it'd be a neat free Left 4 Dead mod. As a standalone commercial product, though, it's lacking at every turn.
  22. 33
Worse than simply being tedious, though, is how jaw-grindingly frustrating Zombie Apocalypse becomes.
  23. It’s easy to compare Zombie Apocalypse to Burn Zombie Burn, but unfortunately the game doesn’t share its witty charm or long-term appeal.

You can spend hours on end riveted in Burn Zombie Burn or you can take all the fun, personality, strategy and replayability out of that game, and be left with Zombie Apocalypse.
I will say the graphics and environments aren't terrible, but it really is just plain boring after 15 minutes... even for a trophy whore like myself, this is just too poor of a game to grind through.

Can be a little repetitive, but the developers do a good job changing up game modes and strength of monsters. This is a great co-op game one thing that is overlooked.Replay value to me is great who doesn't want to go kill some zombies right before bed? I think a mid 7 or low 8 is fair for this game!
