Your enjoyment of this title will vary depending on your nostalgic feelings towards the original arcade game and the beat-em-up genre overall.

Half of the appeal of X-Men: The Arcade Game is nostalgia, but the other half is still a genuinely fun experience. No, it's not as flashy or deep as any current-generation game, but there's still something to be said for taking control of Wolverine in his bright yellow spandex and mindlessly ripping through hordes of evil robot minions. If you're a solo player, you might want to pass, but if you regularly play with a group, especially a local one, then it's worth checking out.

So yeah, X-Men is a game with limited appeal to very particular niche, but it's something I'm personally extremely happy to have, and it's nearly identical to what I played in the Arcade.

Expensive but worth it for nostalgic thrills. [Issue#203, p.98]

Death comes frequently, but infinite continues completely erase the once-brutal challenge of the original arcade coin-op. [March 2011, p.77]

Classico dei cabinati anni 90, un gioco storico nel suo genere, un po' in disuso ormai, dei picchiaduro a scorrimento.

Konami is the most hated gaming company at this current state as they fire their best employees and they abandon their most popular franchises. This game was made in ta time when Konami was known for making high qulity games and this was was no exception. This is easily the best game in the X-Men franchise. Sure the plot doesn't bother going into depth with the themes that the franchise is known for. In fact the story line can be summed up in just one sentence "Magneto wants to take over the world, you must stop him". It is as simple as simple can be but it was made in a time when games where not known for given engaging narratives. But to its defense though the story knows that it is cheesy and it has a lot of fun with the tone. You can play as one of six characters which have different abilities to exploit. My personal favorite to use is Night Crawler with his acrobatics and his teleportation. The dialogue is so cheesy that it is especially worth a laugh especially with the "Welcome to die line:. The combat is monotonous but is still satisfying as you punch the enemies to submission. It knows what it is and doesn't try to be anything else and it is all the better for it. It is a fun game with a sense of self awareness that is worth your time playing with a friend for a laid back weekend. Full Review »
