A truly breathtaking achievement by Naughty Dog. The game is mixture of pure adrenaline filled action set pieces and gorgeous puzzle sequences. And the white snow of the Himalayas which serve as the back drop for much of the game is mesmerising.

Gunfights were not too difficult but also not easy either, whereas in the 1st game they were always repetitive and unreasonably tedious. Certain strategies had to be found when fighting different kinds of enemies as well, which can not be said in the first title. This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. While not perfect, Uncharted 2: Among Thieves is a perfect example of how to take a solid foundation in the first game and polish it to a gleam. Regarded as one of the greatest video games of all times, Uncharted 2 is full of wit, action, and exciting set pieces and environments.
STORY: Nathan Drake is approached by an old friend, Harry Flynn, and Drake's ex-girlfriend, Chloe Frazer, about a job to steal an old oil lamp that belonged to Marco Polo. This oil lamp holds a blank piece of paper and a blue resin that when burned, illuminates the paper to show that Marco Polo found the ancient city of Shambala, which contains a large sapphire called the Cintimani Stone. Harry betrays Drake, because he's actually working with a mercenary name Lazaraveic. The Cintimani stone is actually sap from the tree of life, which grants those who eat it incredible strength and youth.
The story is very well executed, interlaced throughout in a way that it never feels jarring. The acting from the characters brings it all together, since every single performance is great.
    GRAPHICS:
This is a very good looking game, even in comparison to the modern standards. Environments are rich and detailed, with a lot of visual clarity. Character animations hold up okay, yet they can feel very jumpy and weird. There isn't a whole lot more to say here; it runs at a rock-solid framerate, and the graphics don't look horrible.
    GAMEPLAY:
Despite the numerous improvements to the gunplay and action, the climbing and traversal methods actually feel worse than the first game. I encountered multiple instances of trying to do a certain action, and it not doing the action, or going in a different direction leading to an annoying death.
The gunplay, on the other hand, has been significantly improved. It's more precise, more satisfying, with good quality of life improvements, like being able to throw grenades while aiming your gun. The Uncharted series has helped me think more tactically and helped me improve my aiming, giving a real sense of progression as you get better at each firefight. The encounters themselves can also be very creative, putting you and enemies into situations that can unfold in very different ways. One in particular puts you on a tower, with around 7 or so other towers in front of you separated by a wooden plank bridge, each of those towers having a sniper in them, and also a guy with a rocket launcher. Your goal is to take out each of the snipers, but you can also make your job easier by taking out the rocket launcher guy first, which will then trigger an explosion from his ammo and take out several of the snipers.
However, I do have one problem. some of the fights have weird boundaries, which don't allow you to progress without taking out every enemy. In the aforementioned sniper fight, some men are also trying to cross the bridge. If you try to cross the bridge before you take them all out, you will hit a kill wall and have to start the entire fight over. It's a very frustrating feature to what is otherwise a very well made combat system.
    SOUNTRACK:
The soundtrack of Uncharted: Drake's fortune was absolutely incredible, and Uncharted 2 is no different. You have a wonderful sounding orchestra punctuated by giant Tibetan Temple horns of all things, which gives such an amazing atmosphere, enhancing every scene it touches.
Uncharted did it's best to improve on everything the first game did, and it came very close to doing so. Despite some very annoying platforming controls and weird boundaries, Uncharted 2 is a game that has stood against the test of time very well, and deserves to be the standout title of the last generation it is.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Although considered by many the best in the series, or even the best game ever, i didn't felt that attached to this game. It was still great and way beyond Uncharted 1, but i just felt better playing the sequels (excluding Lost Legacy). This game is great: it's good graphics, way better mechanics, even better cast performance, new characters with one of the best lines and scenes in the whole franchise. Phenomenal pacing and areas, good plot twists. All this things lead up to a true masterpiece i really enjoyed. The game felt refreshing compared to the prequel to the way it was the best Uncharted for me until i replayed the next entry. Greg Edmundson's soundtrack was as always awesome and made this "Uncharted feeling" while playing through the game. My favourite parts of the game were Borneo and Nepal nearly being the best in the franchise right before UC3's Plane and Desert. It's a really good game overall and i will recommend it to everyone. The set-pieces are also a key factor that keeps me coming back, as they are so well designed. Despite being 10 hours long, you could probably sit through this game in its entirety and never lose focus. This is perhaps the most well-paced video game of all time. There is nothing that I have played that compares to it in that regard. The story is well-told, no combat scene feels similar to the ones before it, and the characters have become downright iconic at this point.

Whether a villain, a character, or an environment. Especially the environment that is beautiful. The island from number one was nice, but the snowy mountains in number two are even better. The action moments have also undergone a big shift and the beginning of the game will immediately draw you into the action. We will also see quality flashback. The bad guy is luxurious here. I can't compare it to that from number one, because I don't even remember it anymore, and this could be one of the proofs that it's much better here. The puzzles here are also in full beauty and they also felt a little better. The end of the game is in style and overall you will actually realize after finishing that you got something that was many times better than the previous part. Amazing game that I recommend. Expand

    - Gameplay -
Uncharted 2 took all the cinematic bits from Uncharted 1 and blew them up into a full on cinematic experience. Every moment of the game felt like I was watching a James Bond movie, except I had influence over every action. I love it. The camera was well placed in every situation, such that the controls reflected the perspective, which made climbing, jumping, leaping all feel fluent and responsive. The puzzles were average, but the action sequences totally make up for it.

    - Story -
The story and characters are probably the best part about Uncharted 2 for me. With every cutscene, I bonded with the characters more and more. The jokes, burns, and puns between them were hilarious, and when they make a serious point, you can't help but care, and fight for their goal. The plot is very interesting. The game starts off with a flash forward in an epic moment of the game, and you are left wondering how Drake landed in such a predicament. I love it when games and movies do that. That mystery gets me hooked.

    - Visual & Sound -
Everything looks great, and the settings were diverse. The structures were detailed, and the devs made it pretty clear what was climbable and what wasn't. Despite being able to make inhumane leaps, most of Drake's movement animations looked natural. The background music matched the action. Epic music when the action was at its peak, and mysterious tunes when discovering a new area or encountering a puzzle.

    - Replay value -
There isn't much replay value at all, besides maybe going back and collecting all the treasure hidden within the levels. Not that it matters, cause the single player experience will give you all your money's worth.

    Thanks for reading.

Uncharted 2 Replay Review 100% completed Introduction - 100/100 Amazing introduction and after you finish the game and replay it , it makes so much sense , Nathan is shot and in a falling train trying to survive and it shows a flashback of Chloe and Flynn and the outcomes of betrayal . and Nathan said “what could possibly go wrong” and it shows the consequences of trusting them.

Gameplay - 85/100 Amazing and noticeable improvements from the previous game , the u.i is changed up a little bit and fits the theme, the graphics are amazing for its time to , the climbing is way better and much improved than the previous , the climbing is much better and satisfying , the physics are much better , when you kill a enemy they don’t fall up like they did in uncharted 1 , and the fist fighting is much better with new combos and satisfying combat , and new fighting animations , and the new guns and variety and the new way of throwing grenades is so much better than the previous games , the crosshair for most of the weapons changing is a good detail that helps players improve throughout the game, the stealth has also improved, the train boss fight is horribly designed playing on crushed mode. Graphics - 92/100 Amazing for its time and still holds up today , the Color grading for every environment is a smart and satisfying thing to see , and the maps have a lot of detail and amazing to look at from far Pacing - 96/100 one of the best pacing i seen in a game , very intense and the cutscenes feel the feelings of the player. not rushed, paces out perfectly and not boring either Maps - 93/100 So much detail and feeling put into the maps , for example the urban warfare level , the houses had so much feeling to it and looked realistic , and it was amazing for combat , it was a lot of variety.

Characters - 93/100 , the villain lazaravic is ruthless and intimidating , and the new side characters that changed uncharted , Chloe , and Flynn , amazing dynamics and seeing Flynn’s jealousy and betrayal is one of the best things i seen in a side character , made me hate him a bit, he was a good villain to Ending - 94/100 a lot of intensity and build up and it paced out perfectly , didn’t feel rushed, amazing boss fight and good story telling , and the final cutscene between Elena and Nathan was impactful and amazing , not a typical happy ending , walked away with nothing but was still happy with Elena. Final Score - 9.6/10

The game is an evolution of the first in every way.

The graphics look better, the snow effects on clothing were ahead of their time, parkour is faster, there are more weapons in reference to the first game. The landscapes are beautiful and the plot, if not super dense, is not silly. The pace of the game is good and keeps you hooked from start to finish. As a negative point, I

Still one of the best games I’ve ever played. Great story, great voiceovers, although very linear. The fussy controls cause you to plummet to your momentary demise about 120 times but it still doesn’t overshadow an epic game.

I loved the first game. It had a great sense of discovery, magical environments, good pacing and nice graphics. I'd give that a 9. So why this 'bigger newer version' only an 8? Well firstly yes it does look very very nice, esp if you are watching someone ELSE play. If you are playing it yourself I can't say I noticed anymore beauty than was in the original game. That I loved the first game. That is my imagination seemed to be able to 'breathe more' in the first game, it's more rough edges felt alive and I felt more immersed. I'm sorry to say that for all it's cinematic beauty and loud bangs, this game is NOT as enchanting as the first game was. I seemed to wait forever for the old magic (which didn't come btw) and instead traipsed through weary overdone environments that could have been taken from a mix of gears of war, tomb raider and even Half Life 2. A lot of the game seemed generic, highly polished but generic nonethless. It has slick controls and many technical feats and WILL make your PS3 look amazing to friends. However when you actually try and savour the actual gameplay of the thing, it's quite thin on the ground. So many times I was just getting into the swing of battle and yet ANOTHER needless cut scene would kick in. It seems Naughty Dog are proud of their 'active cinematic experience' system, and yes it delivers some awesome scenes, but it's not actually THAT FUN to 'play'. It limits interaction to the expected and unimaginative. Most of the game felt extremely linear, not even worth replaying (far from it.. tedious would be a better word). Now uncharted one felt GREAT to reply for some reason. Also I do not like the over abundance of other characters, it kills all sense of atmosphere. I liked being more the 'loner' in the first game and discovering things for myself, yes you still had NPCs tagging along, but they were quite subtle. I've not once during play (aside from 2 snowy scenes) sat there and thought 'wow', but I constantly did that with the first game. Uncharted one had underhyped CHARM and it also had the payoff of decent gameplay (maybe due to more time spent battling through and less watching cut scenes) and it's sense of discovery was far higher than this sequel. So honestly, I was raving about this game in the first hour, and as a big fan of the first game didn't expect it to feel quite so 'on rails' and 'contrived' but it does. For all it's polish and cinema-style allusions, it's the gameplay that lets it down, mainly in the pacing but also in the way it's thrown at you in 'clumps' (here's the shooting-fest, now here's the clumsy platforming action) it's just a bit tacked on to the beautiful graphics/cut scenes for me and i'll be selling this as soon as I've finished (currently at 90%). The first game... is easily the better GAME, even if this one does apparently look prettier, the first felt better to play and it also invovled the brain/senses more which allowed the player to amplify the atmosphere with their imagination rather than it being FORCE FED to you via explosive cut scenes every 20 feet.... honestly you can see on occasion that the devs put a section in JUST because they knew/thought it would look cool when being watched (or on trailers) but it has so little to do with gameplay that it makes me sad. I'll still give it an 8 as it's highly polished and still better than most games of it's type but It's very disappointing to find I spent most of my time in war torn cities ripped from gears of war and HL2 and NOT the jungles and waterways of the first game. Go in eyes open but do not dismiss the beauty of the first game just because this sequel uses 'more power'. One word about multiplayer - it IS very well done and thankfully a saving grace for the game (and will stop a lot of people from selling on as soon) but the single player is far too story based and has far too little player involvement, discovery and empowerment. Lastly it is extremely linear and predictable (including the storyline which turns into a rambling contradictory mess around half way through). Expand

Firstly I would like to clarify that my score of 8 is deliberately harsh. Uncharted 2 is a great game, certainly one of the best on the PS3. Having said that, my experience of the game was not the fault free, hyped experience that many people have had. The game is gorgeous and as close to a cinematic experience as any other game I've played. The game is gorgeous and as close to a cinematic experience as any other game I've played. However, the cinematic nature of the game makes it entirely linear. This is not a problem within itself but when you aren't doing EXACTLY what the game wants in certain scenarios it can lead to frustrating deaths. The checkpoint system is largely generous but there were a few instances towards the end of the game when frustrating sections need to be replayed often not at the players fault. The final boss fight was a huge disappointment and actually less enjoyable than the one from Uncharted 1. Ranked against other games this game would certainly get a 9 but certain issues cause unnecessary frustration and slightly tarnish this gem of a game. Expand

This game was basically designed mostly to show off its fancy environments and to create a "hollywood movie" feel by using dramatic camera angles and big scripted sequences...but beneath that shiny exterior lies a somewhat shallow game. I much prefer open world games that allow unexpected and things to happen, and they allow the user to try various ways to complete a task....rather than being forced into a scripted sequence. i'm more impressed by games that create a dynamic world that challenge you to complete tasks in your own way by using your brain. There are some cool parts that require thinking, but these moments are too few and far between. Yet even with all its improvements it also loses a bit of the charm that the first game had. Essentially being true to the adventure movie sequel stereotype. Better, but more of the same. Game mechanics remain more or less unchanged from the first game.

Spread across twenty-six chapters is a story as playful and worthwhile as the gameplay.
  2. Graphically stunning, Uncharted 2: Among Thieves is, first of all, an interactive adventure, one that feels like a movie and even has a storyline of a movie. Most gameplay situations have been tailored in order to stun the player with originality and identification, and the end result is absolutely amazing.
  3. Among Thieves is all about constant movement. And even movement on top of movement. It grabbed me from the beginning and didn't let go for twelve hours. Once I finished, all I could think about was playing it again. More than a defining game for the PS3, Uncharted 2 is a defining game of this console generation.
