I don't know why this game is getting negative reviews. The game is decent, especially for Simpsons fans. The world has been captured like it never has been before and the voice acting is solid. Although repetitive gameplay and a not so lengthy game doesn't make this a must buy. But for Simpsons fans? Absolutely.

I am not a fan of The Simpsons show. I have only seen a few episodes in my life, but that's pretty much it. Having said that, I'm really liking this game. I love this game BUT I am a major Simpsons fan, if you have good knowledge of the show there will be alot of memorable moments and references in this game and many fresh jokes. Alot of negative things were said about the camera but I think it works very well and free. A fun game with nice colourful graphics and a blast to play with a friend in co-op mode with good replay value. Sounds = All the characters and voices from the show, dialog only gets old if you get stuck on the same part.

Controls = Pretty simple and easy to use, learning everybody's weapon is the trick.

Difficulty = Really hard at times because you're not shown what to do sometimes and you can get stuck. Once you figure out your path than it's not so bad.

Playability = Easy to learn, good for adult and kid fans alike.

Value = I wouldn't say a $60 game but used for say $20 or $25 it's worth it. If you're a big Simpsons fan this is a must.

Overall value = If you've played any Simpson's game and wished it was better, than this is your game. Hasn't been one this fun since the old arcade. They even reference how bad their old games were.

The gameplay is difficult as the mechanics are broken. It's easy to see where the budget was spent. Had they worked on it it could've been a decent platformer as well. Instead we got this game which often gets frustrating due to the camera controls. It also feels like some of the drawing was rushed. The level design isn't even that well thought of either for the most part.

That being said, if you're a Simpsons fan, seeing through these flaws will be fairly easy. If you don't like the Simpsons and are just looking for a platformer to play, move along.

This game is robust - but I don't think you'll enjoy it if you're not a simpsons fan, as the focus is more on the story than on the actual gameplay.

The last time I paid a visit to “The Simpsons” in video game form, it was when I reviewed “The Simpsons: Hit & Run,” one of the most popular licensed video games of all-time, and also one of the most beloved. Despite all of the love the game received, though, I rated the game a 6/10 when I reviewed it on here back in 2017 (my profile says 2018, but that’s because thank you, grammar errors). I can’t tell you if I got backlash on that because…this is Metacritic, there’s no comment section on reviews, but I can only imagine how unpopular my opinion was given that the Internet collectively christened the game among the “as good as it gets” of licensed games. And I totally get that opinion, because it did interestingly take the formula of “Grand Theft Auto” and make it work with “The Simpsons,” but to me, when I remove my rose-colored nostalgia lenses, I find that the game has aged poorly in some regards. That, however, brought me to “The Simpsons Game,” which I’d argue sits second to “Hit & Run” in terms of popularity and general reception. I wanted to revisit the game to see if I could get more enjoyment out of it than “Hit & Run,” and…I suppose I did, but only slightly, and given that “Hit & Run” already wasn’t the highest bar to reach, I’d say “The Simpsons Game” merely hopped over the bar.
Now, don’t get me wrong, there’s a lot to like about “The Simpsons Game.” Aesthetically, this game totally fits the bill as a “Simpsons” game. The cel-shaded graphics capture the look and feel of the show to near-perfection, the music feels very reminiscent of the show, and the voice work is sharp as usual. I also think the writing in this game is pretty fantastic: beyond how faithful it feels to the show, I love how the game satirizes the show and the gaming industry, the latter of which is so intriguing because much of the commentary still feels relevant to gaming today, even though the game is set to turn thirteen years old this year. The level design is also pretty clever and inventive, and I also commend the game for having quite a bit of content and plenty of secrets in the game despite its short length, giving you a lot to do and experience, especially as the open-world of Springfield can be pretty fun to explore even once you’ve completed the adventure.
With all of that said, this game is held back in one massive area, and probably the most important one: the gameplay. Very little about the gameplay here is truly special beyond some of the aforementioned level design, and even though it’s fun to see the game lampoon and satirize the industry in a way that still feels relevant, I’d argue the gameplay doesn’t go with it. In fact, the game kinda gets worse as you get further in. For starters, while I’ve heard a lot of people complain about the game’s length, I’d argue on the alternative that the game’s levels often feel too long, especially when you get late into the game and story missions start to revolve around repetitive collection, fetch quests, and more. Furthermore, the combat (if you really want to call it that) is extremely weak, which creates a lot of frustration later in the game when the missions become more combat-centric, and also the camera, more often than not, simply refuses to work. As much of the writing has aged well with this game, it’s sad that the gameplay hasn’t aged with it.
Overall, “The Simpsons Game” is merely decent to me. It’s not all that special in regards to its gameplay, and the main thing that keeps it going is how well it respects the source material, while providing excellent doses of humor that, even nearly thirteen years later, feel timely and relevant. All in all, I think of this game as being the ultimate “for fans only” kind of title: if you’re a huge fan of “The Simpsons” and you enjoy a humorous, well-written game, lackluster gameplay be damned, I’d say you’ll probably get something out of this. If you’re not a huge fan, though, you can skip it with the assurance that you’re not missing all that much. It’s definitely an interesting experience, but “The Simpsons Game” is definitely a step behind the pack of great licensed games.

Plot: The story doesn’t try to take itself seriously, and that’s was great about it. It’s a witty take on the cliche video game tropes we’ve come to see from every generic game at the time. The writing was clever and hilarious at times, and I feel that it was perfect.

Gameplay: This is where the game takes a turn for the bad. The gameplay isn’t terrible, but it can get very tedious. The combat consists of button mashing and using special attacks that are really only useful if you play Bart or Homer. However, Lisa’s Saxophone gets better over the course of the game, but even then I found myself not using her a lot.
The platforming was pretty decent, and the puzzles used to split up the gameplay were pretty good too, and some were even challenging.
My last complaint about the gameplay is that about halfway through the game, there’s a giant difficulty spike, in which turned what was supposed to be a five minute level into a fifteen minute level, because the AI decided to go full Megamind mode and rush both me and my partner.

Graphics: The graphics were pretty standard for 2007, nothing too grand, but didn’t look pretty earlier.

Overall: The Simpsons Game is a good game if you are a fan of the early Simpsons. It’s a funny commentary on overused video game tropes of yesteryear, and is a decent game to pick up and play with a buddy.

I don´t like this one. In some parts of the game there are way too much enemies in the screen witch distract you from your missions. In my opinion there are also too less own ideas, most of the time you are playing missions from better known games like Pokemon, Shadow of the Colossus, Medal of Honor and so on. For me, when I´m comparing it with Hit´n run, this game is not as good.

    Plot:
The game starts relatively normally. (relatively.)
the first level is a dream level through The Land Of Chocolate, a perfect introduction to the mechanics and humor of this game. in the dream, homer is able to turn into a giant ball and smash into **** he wakes up.

    next level:
while walking through an alley after being denied an M rated game (lmfao) bart has a copy for a manual of "The Simpsons Game". he comments that the only simpsons game he remembers is the one where they pretend Homer isnt an alcoholic. he realises that he can use the manual to gain superpowers. he then meets with homer and they find some people robbing a museum, blablabla, not important.

after that level they find that the entire family has powers. homer's is being a giant ball and smashing ****.

there's a filler eating contest level and a level of bart and lisa taking down a logging company, then aliens invade (cliche, but its self aware and they do NOT take themselves seriously). infact, through the game, everytime there's a game cliche, Comic Book Guy pops up and comments on it, and you collect that cliche. useless, but funny.

they end up having to dive into "the game engine" by having a can spill on a computer (again cliche) to find some way to stop the alien invasion. they have a run-in with bill wright (some ea guy, whom my favorite quote is "i'm will wright **** has some funny quips about the sims. not important.

they then run through some video game parodies. Medal Of Homer, Grand Theft Scratchy, Big Super Happy Fun Fun Game and NeverQuest to get some keycards, to open a gate to get to "The Creator"

they then meet, and beat the **** out of their creator. matt groening. there's some futurama cameos too, not important. after this, lisa uses her psychic buddha powers (oh yeah, she's got buddha powers) to build a stairway to heaven (eheheheh) to find the literal christian **** god.

there's a heaven level with all the stage's unique enemies. and then you PLAY DANCE DANCE REVOLUTION AGAINST GOD. this is the end of the game. im not done gushing.

There is so much about this game that makes it **** wonderful. the story is great, it knows that the players do not want some boring platformer. they don't take themselves seriously at all, making jabs at EA (the publisher, i know, gross) and the game's own cliches.

On the PS3 and Xbox 360 versions, there's an open hub world, a fully modelled springfield in which you can enter buildings, and while you walk around, other characters from the show walk around and tell funny quips, adding to the ***atmosphere***. the attention to detail is insane, you could play this forever and keep noticing dumb little details. a reference to an episode, just pop culture, or anything that was in the public conscience at the time. it pulls no punches at all.

on top of all this, the platforming and level design is impeccable. i didn't at any point get confused or frustrated at a level, they were the perfect difficulty, all the puzzles and parkour sections are impeccable. you never get so stuck at a point that you have to quit, the controls are snappy and responsive, the camera is only a little **** (all game cameras are a little **** and it just feels like the developers knew what they were doing.

throughout the game, there's also individual tokens for each character you can collect, and if you collect all of a character's tokens, you get a little digital collectible. useless, but gives you a reason to go back and finish it.

the graphics, i admit, are dated. you can see some glitches in the render engine, due to it being a bit of a weird cel shading / nicely rendered hybrid. i, however, find it charming and pretty. the character models look flawless, (aside from homers eyes, idk they feel dead)

there was also a wii, ps2 and psp release, and i think a DS demake. i've played the psp and ps3 versions only though. but from footage i've seen, the DS version looks like a 2D sidescroller following the same story. the PSP, PS2 and Wii versions do not have any hub worlds, power ups, certain levels are changed, and they look ****tier, but it's still a good way to experience it.

i hope i've explained in enough detail here why i **** LOVE this game. it's a good experience, even if you're not too familiar with the show.

i will admit, there is a level of nostalgia here. i played this when i was like,,, 7? and i keep coming back to it. so take that bias into account.

The original animation team and cast made fully voiced, and wonderfully animated cutscenes for it. Every little detail is captured wonderfully and it makes you feel like you’re in an episode. It’s a welcome addition to this game.

Had it offered online cooperative play, or local co-op play that was actually as much fun as the single-player game (if not more so) then the score would definitely be higher, but as it stands The Simpsons is a very enjoyable, though very, very short, single-player game that both hardcore and casual Simpsons fans will love.
  2. The bothersome camera often gets stuck, thus obscuring your vision and two-player split screen messes with the game's speed, but the exclusive clips and humorous presentation make this a must play, especially for diehard Simpsons fans.
  3. The gameplay might not be anything special, but The Simpsons Game delivers more than enough laughs to make it worth a look.
