Jul 2, 2012If you are a fan of Spider-Man, the game is worth picking up, but if you aren't, you might want to wait until the price drops. If you are planning on picking this game up, see the movie before purchasing it so you can avoid the spoilers. You have been warned.

Jul 2, 2012Lacks some of the polish and refinement that would make it a really solid, even addicting title. We spend too much time indoors..., the story is a little lame, and the difficulty is scaled back a little too much. But it's easy to pick up and play, exploring the city never gets boring, and fans of the web-slinging hero can spend a lot of time battling, upgrading, and just soaring along.
-
Jul 30, 2012Yes, it's repetitive, borrows heavily from other games and isn't all that impressive in the graphics department. That, however, does not stop this game from being an incredibly fun experience.
-
Jul 27, 2012Not exactly brilliant, but The Amazing Spider-man is a good game and a nice tie-in of the blockbuster movie.
-
Jul 23, 2012As it goes, this game is better than last year's Edge of Time and should be considered if you're feeling the need to act out a Spider-Man fantasy without getting into your own costume and causing harm to yourself as you try to wall climb up your house wall. It's not amazing to do something like that, but it sure can be amusing, just like this game.

Playstation Official Magazine AustraliaJul 16, 2012Arkham City is arguably the best superhero game ever made, so it makes sense that Beenox would look to it for inspiration. And while The Amazing Spider-Man seldom succeeds entirely in emulating the accomplishments of its illustrious antecedent, it makes a pretty decent fist of it, for the most part. [August 2012, p72]

Jul 16, 2012Despite the underwhelming mission design and the uneven graphics, I still really enjoy The Amazing Spider-Man. It's a game that proves that the whole product can be something bigger than the individual parts and that all you need sometimes is one great part of gameplay to lift the entire product.
-
Jul 2, 2012It's a terrific starting point to build future installments from. However, I think that Beenox really needs to sit down and understand what makes Spider-Man an interesting character to play and find ways to accurately capture that feeling without overly simplifying the experience.
-
Jul 2, 2012The mechanics are smooth and the gameplay is fun, but The Amazing-Spider-Man is relentlessly average and destined to be forgotten in the annals of time. The game displays a bunch of promise that it never manages to fulfill.
-
Jun 26, 2012The visuals aren't stunning, the story isn't crazy exciting, and the missions get repetitive. But The Amazing Spider-Man is fun to play.
-
Official PlayStation Magazine BeneluxSep 13, 2012As much as the developer values Spider-Man as a superhero, they seem to be an even bigger fan of a certain billionaire by day/vigilante at night called the Batman. It would certainly explain why this game is an almost exact copy of Arkham Asylum and Arkham City. [September 2012, p.78]
-
Jul 7, 2012The Amazing Spider-Man never reaches its full potential. The missions are repetitive and the combat system is not as fluent as in Arkham City. The web slinging in Manhattan makes up for a whole lot, but The Amazing Spider-Man never really amazes.
-
Jun 26, 2012The game displays a lot of promise early on, but it devolves into mediocrity after you've invested a few hours learning its basic systems.
-
Jul 13, 2012Overall, the Amazing Spider-Man succeeds at offering a great story, but fails at accomplishing its goal of making you feel like Spidey.
-
Jul 6, 2012Despite a fairly large amount of flaws, The Amazing Spider-Man is an enjoyable game. It's not the best encounter with virtual Spidey (for me it's Shattered Dimensions), but I believe that the story and fun of flying over Manhattan are enough, to give it a chance. Unoriginal missions, poor stealth mechanic and and idiotic AI can turn people off, but it's still worth a shot (and the single-player campaign takes about 8 hours).
-
CD-ActionJul 6, 2012Why can't Activision approach Spidey seriously, invest enough money and time and finally make a game that all Spider-Man fans are waiting for? The Amazing Spider-Man ain't it. [August 2012, p.64]
-
Play UKAug 7, 2012Fun in short bursts and sometimes exhilarating to navigate the city, but The Amazing Spider-Man is still washed down the spout by the fact that it's dull. [Issue#221, p.74]
-
Aug 11, 2012It is clear that with limited production time, what Beenox managed to create is almost unbelievable, and if you are Spidey fan, The Amazing Spider-Man will entertain you for hours.
-
Jul 5, 2012Gameplay is enjoyable but in a brief and shallow way. The longer you spend with it the less you get. There's a lack of imagination where this feels more about keeping you occupied than creating an interesting world filled with atmosphere. It lacks the variety and texture you really need keep things exciting.
-
Jul 5, 2012It´s good to see that there is more potential left for a good Spider-Man game than the last downers let you to believe. The Amazing Spider-Man is a package of an open world to frolic around in and linear missions to keep it together. It is a decent game that makes it painful to think about what it could have been if the developer would have had more time to polish it. There are a lot of hints to the possibilities, but the movie is out now. One wonders, if its producer also had just three-quarters of a year to work with.
-
Oct 27, 2012It feels like a pale copy of Rocksteadys Batman: Arkham Asylum, lacking in charm and unique features. The game is also plagued by both small and big technical issues that drop it down to a disappointing level of mediocrity. It's not all bad, but as a package it is uninspired, empty and flat.
-
Aug 16, 2012The Spider-Man game franchise has long been a series that gamers have always thought should work, but it rarely has. The third attempt from Beenox, but first attempt at an open world version, shows some promise, but it has a lot of cracks along the way.
