While the control is pretty solid, and the speed and action is actually very good, there is one significant flaw that permeates the entire experience: the response to your button presses is often erratic and rarely predictable or reliable.
-
This is the first licensed game I’ve played that is actually shorter than its movie. I’m not exaggerating; in a little over an hour I had received trophies in all of the main surf events.
-
The gameplay is simple but enjoyable and kids in love with the movie are sure to have a good time with the game, but the fact remains that this is a bloated price tag on a barebones game.
-
Hanging 10 in this movie-licensed surfing game has its moments--just don't expect to enjoy it for very long.
-
Younger kids will love it and come back for more. A fun concept, well executed.

Playstation Official Magazine UKThere's sadly no imagination here. [Sept 2007, p.108]
-
Let there be no doubt, Surf's Up is strictly for kids in love with the movie. The redundancy of the gameplay will certainly help to break one's obsession with all things penguin in a weekend. Definitely a rental.

PSM MagazineA competitive mutiplayer mode adds some longevity, but for a game that costs $50, three hours of single-player gameplay is simply unacceptable. [Sept 2007, p.84]
