High-score hounds might find this one worth a look. For all intents and purposes it's a good game that delivers some solid twin-stick shooter fun. However, now in a time where the genre has been dominated by the likes of the newest Geometry Wars this feels kind of bare.

To be honest it kind of feels like a version of Geometry Wars where all of the maps are the same shape (spherical).

To be honest it kind of feels like a version of Geometry Wars where all of the maps are the same shape (spherical). Blasting you way through the levels and racking up that high-score is pretty fun and will likely get it's hooks into the more competitive players out there who want to get their name high on the leader-boards. For the rest of us there isn't enough content to keep us in it for the long haul.

The cooperative modes do add some extra life to the package, but with only two single-player offering out of the gate that have the exact same levels it's up to the DLC to keep things going. Tossing out those extra dollars is only going to be worth it to those really into the game, especially given it's age.

It's a good game. One with solid, arcade-style gameplay. If you like high-score hunting this is a good choice. Just keep in mind that it's light on content and has some age on it.

Playable with a friend but it is personally not motivational enough for me to play solo.

Pretty little explosions and detailed alien foes make this a visual treat, and the frantic action is always absorbing. [July 2007, p.107]

It can get a bit hard to see where you're going with so much happening, and progression doesn't feel as though it's entirely in your hands, but for enjoyment, sparkle and that 'one more go' factor, this is a hard one to turn down. [July 2007, p.85]
  3. Graphically, as PSN games go, Super Stardust HD is superb, and it nicely combines the neon glow of Geometry Wars with the detailed retro pixel work of the first Stardust. The difficulty level is spot on, providing a challenge without causing a headache.
