Jan 1, 2011The closest thing to a complaint I can muster up for Spelunker HD is that it has a sparse online community, but that's almost like criticizing a masterful painting because it hasn't been seen by enough people.
-
Dec 21, 2010For $10, it's hard to go wrong here, provided you fit in the target demographic. If you love the classic games, or are hankering for a challenge, Spelunker HD deserves a spot on your hard drive.
-
Aug 22, 2011Even though there are no new features besides multiplayer, the amount of content will make Spelunker HD attractive for gamers, especially for Retro fans. Fair warning: the game is extremely difficult and moments of frustration are guaranteed.
-
Dec 20, 2010Spelunker HD caters to old-school gamers unapologetically, and if you fit into that category, and especially if you have friends that do too, you will be well rewarded for your $10 investment.
-
Dec 21, 2010Purposely frustrating, Spelunker HD offers a lot of game to work through, straddling the fine line between good difficulty and rote memorization for an entertaining enough throwback, but one that few will end up finishing. Idle thumbs need not apply.
-
Oct 26, 2011Spelunker HD has all the elements of a decent throwback renewed with high definition graphics.
-
Aug 26, 2011Spelunkers HD is an enjoyable platformer, marred by an extremely difficult nature that is bound to turn many, if not most, away. If you're a gamer that relishes games with a harsh, unwilling and unforgiving nature, or were a fan of the original title, this is the perfect game for you. For everyone else out there though, save your sanity and stay away. Consider yourself warned.
-
Dec 21, 2010The only major downside we can think of is that the game simply brings absolutely everything over from the original for better or for worse and then just slaps an HD paint job onto it.
-
Dec 21, 2010Given the obvious attention that was put into rebuilding the game in HD it's extremely disappointing that the 8-bit graphics are the superior choice.
-
Dec 21, 2010The original gameplay of Spelunker didn't change too much and that means Spelunker HD is a pretty hardcore game. Every little mistake means you're dead and you have to play again. The original Spelunker is also included.
-
Dec 20, 2010Spelunky HD is a solid challenge, but it fails to do anything spectacular, and instead simply revels in challenging you. Compared to something more modern like Super Meat Boy, which is actually more challenging while still managing to be more fun at the same time, Spelunker HD pales in comparison.

Playstation Official Magazine UKOct 11, 2011The game certainly doesn't make things easy for you. [Nov 2011, p.99]
-
Dec 26, 2010Spelunker HD will have you giving up way before finding any great treasure deep down in the creepy mines. If anything, this latest retro remake is a reminder that not every classic game deserves an HD makeover.
-
Dec 21, 2010So is it a bad game? No, but it's definitely not for everyone (despite the ESRB rating). Is it worth $9.99? No. Not objectively, anyway.
-
Jul 22, 2011Regardless of how great it was considered back then, Spelunker HD is the kind of shoddy remake best ignored. The download scene is hardly short of platforming fun, now is it?
-
Jan 4, 2011Spelunker HD proves that this is one classic game that deserves to stay buried!
