Enjoyment is relative to expectation with this silly little title. Having actually planned on paying full price for this kitschy entry, as opposed to getting it free as a Playstation Plus member, I was already looking forward to playing Rock of Ages based solely on the promotional videos. Think Monty Python's terrific animated sequences meets... erm... I'd say maybe Katamari Damacy. Like the latter title, there will be times you're so close to completing a level you can practically taste it, only to find yourself eagerly starting over "just one last time." it's addictive, yes, but not immediately so. In fact, it sucks at first, but then you get a better sense of the developer's expectations and limitations... and it's at that point you surrender to its inherent, if somewhat silly, fun. Expand

This is a fun little download! It's a whimsical and silly mash up of tower defense and a crazy bowling-like game. Basically, you and your opponent (either AI or a human opponent) are in a race to beat down the castle gate of the other with a large boulder that you control down variously twisting and narrow obstacle courses that have cliff drop-offs on either side. But you need several boulder runs to crash the gate and it takes time to build a new "rock" each time. In between runs you and your opponent engage in the tower defense aspect; placing various silly obstacles such as cows, trebuckets and wind machines along the others' path to knock them off the track and slow them down. The "rock" is purposefully sluggish to control, but includes the ability to accelerate, change direction, and jump. It's a fun romp through a Monty Python-ish history lesson as well. Expand

A good little game to pass the time does not really anything deep about it, but you will have things to do with your fingers.

The game has a good art style and it has humor so it is worth looking at and even if the difficult not exist because it's way too easy. you can get some fun by looking at it.

A fun little game that you can pop on with your friends. There's nothing too deep here but it's fun enough.

If you like Terry Gilliam's work you'll love the art aesthetic here as you romp through art history, visiting historical figures as you go. It's quite funny if you can appreciate its sense of humour, too. [October 2012, p79]

At its core, Rock of Ages is a nice little twist on the basic strategy genre.

The lack of balance between platforming and tower defence coupled with a handful of under-featured game modes and unstable online multiplayer prevent it from being a "must have."
