This small warming up for Red Faction: Armageddon is a nice try. You can play with a vehicle and you have to kill all the other players. It's like the traditional modes within multiplayer games, deathmatch, team deathmatch and more and it's vehicle based. Fun and it works nice, but there aren't many maps, the game can be a bit boring and the price is pretty high.

All in all, this isn't a good month for life on Mars. [July 2011, p.103]

If you can snag a copy as a free pre-order bonus for Red Faction: Armageddon, then go ahead and give it a spin, but if you're thinking of spending money on it, give this one a pass. At 800 MSP ($10) for the download, Red Faction: Battlegrounds simply isn't worth the cash.

A title technically well made, but with obvious limitations, especially concerning multiplayer.

Ultimately, this game will only please series' hardcore fans who are eager to play the next Red Faction game and want some freshness within the series universe. Battlegrounds seems to have been quickly conceived and executed and that is noticeable from the first minutes of play.

The singleplayer training missions are promising but are over in less than an hour, and the multiplayer is neither varied nor fun. A zoomed out and annoying camera together with the boring and random weapons bland this down and makes Red Faction: Battlegrounds positively average.

Battlegrounds is a forgettable entry in the Red Faction franchise that neither builds upon previous games nor forges an interesting path of its own.

I was left wondering what the point of playing Red Faction: Battlegrounds was. Honestly, the game struck me as a vehicular combat game that was halfway done when someone walked in and said, "Hey, we should make this a Red Faction game!"

However, this game does have some fun challenges like checkpoint races and survival. It's worth its price of £1.49/$2.99 and it has some good shooting and driving levels. I will mention that the game gets difficult after the first few levels, and if you fail, Winters will insult you, making you want to hurl your controller at the screen. The overall game is definitely worth buying at its current price, but is certainly not as good as the other Red Faction games. Full Review »
