Nov 27, 2012Playstation All Stars Battle Royal is an amazing fighting game wrapped in an idea we have seen before. When it comes down to it, what makes a great game in any genre is balance and All Stars has it in droves. Although some will never see its brilliance, I would maintain that once played it could change the mind of many a sceptic. Add to this a return for some of Playstation's well missed characters and awesome value for money in Cross Buy and you have one of the most refreshing fighting games in years.

Dec 24, 2012DO NOT call PS All-Stars a Smash Bros. knock off, it is actually anything but a copy or clone of Nintendo's fabled fighter. SuperBot has taken the most basic premise of that series and crafted a full-featured fighter that delivers something beyond the casual experience and that crosses over into the competitive fighting realm.
-
Nov 29, 2012PlayStation All-Stars Battle Royale delivers some great fighting and hilarious comedy at the same time. It's a must-have for anyone who loves the fast-paced style of fighting popularized by Smash Bros. While it would be easy to dismiss the game for being a copycat, doing so would be a mistake as the game does quite a few things differently that help it stand on its own. It's a very well put-together game regardless of its inspiration and is worthy of at least a rental for skeptics.
-
Nov 20, 2012Exactly what a mash-up should be – not single game environments, not stories that only include the character of one specific game, but a fusion – a celebration even – of the brilliant PlayStation games that we all know and love.
-
Nov 20, 2012This game offers a potential for endless hours of fun...We all expected a knock-off, but this fighter has an identity that's completely unique.
-
Nov 20, 2012For the most part, barring the half-hearted campaign, they've greatly succeeded. If you find yourself playing Smash Bros. into the wee hours of the morning with friends, you should enjoy PlayStation-All Stars: provided that you have at least some affinity towards the franchises that take part in this tournament.
-
Nov 20, 2012SuperBot Entertainment has meticulously merged three generations of platform lore into a four-player brawler that's both approachable and cunningly complex.
-
Nov 20, 2012PlayStation All-Stars is a deeply engaging fighter and love letter to PlayStation fans that ultimately triumphs over shallow single-player content and a few design quirks.
-
Nov 20, 2012As a tribute to the PlayStation family it could have been better, but as a fighting game it's outstanding. Loads of fun based on a great multiplayer will have us playing for a long while.
-
Dec 18, 2012Playstation All-Stars Battle Royale is a great fighting game, and is a lot deeper than you might think.
-
Dec 5, 2012After working my way through the multitude of options and modes this game has to offer, I can say conclusively and with confidence that while there's still a few wrinkles to work out in the combat system, PlayStation All-Stars Battle Royale is an outstanding example of an approachable fighting game that surely deserves your consideration, and easily earns the right to step into the winners circle and stand with the big boys.
-
Dec 4, 2012A fun little game that will give you hours of "just one more fight then so I can get even" entertainment.
-
Nov 27, 2012Everyone says PlayStation All-Stars does nothing but cheaply rip off Super Smash Brothers, but there's more to it than that. A lot more, in fact. This is in every way a solid fighter, with a large and well-balanced (though not yet as good as it could have been) cast, many colourful stages and deep, rewarding gameplay elements. Above all it's fun - if not at times a little chaotic.
-
Nov 26, 2012Sony managed to rewrite the manual for party brawlers and has, despite minor faults, delivered a great fighting game. The super system works well and feels refreshing. With beautiful environments and unique fighting styles Battle Royale will entertain you for quite a while.
-
Nov 27, 2012Even lacking a bit of polish, PlayStation All-Stars Battle Royale is an impressive piece of work especially for PlayStation fans and those fond of Nintendo's Super Smash Bros series. It's fun and easy to get into, and offers enough local and online multiplayer fighting action to keep PS3 and PS Vita players interested for quite some time.
-
Nov 21, 2012PlayStation All-Stars: Battle Royale doesn't redefine the genre and doesn't make anything special but the mix of PlayStation-air with all the arenas and fighters, the entertaining gameplay and the cool multiplayer-action is damn fun!
-
Nov 20, 2012PlayStation All-Stars Battle Royale has a lot going for it. I find the single-player a tad disappointing, the learning curve can actually feel too steep for certain characters, and you may start hearing about various combat balancing issues (I'll bet money on that). But the control is rock solid, the entertainment is always of a certain quality with virtually no glaring flaws or drawbacks, the diversity and variety of the roster is absolutely fantastic, and the multiplayer could definitely attract a great many people.
-
Dec 12, 2012Do yourself a favour this Friday and grab a couple of mates, invest in four controllers, knock back a case of brewskies and work that arse groove on your couch as PlayStation All-Stars Battle Royale is going to keep your interest for a quite some time.
-
Nov 20, 2012Creating a brawler similar to the Super Smash Bros. wasn't an easy job, but the SuperBot Entertainment guys demonstrate that everything is possible. Deep and funny, this is a game that Playstation fans can't miss.
-
Jan 9, 2013Overall, I have to confess that I wasn't expecting a huge amount from Playstation All-Stars, but it surprised me. The Supers system provides a good twist on the Super Smash Brothers formula, it's obviously been lovingly put together and it's simply a great deal of fun. It's definitely a game that's worth playing.
-
Dec 11, 2012Let's forget about the game that pits favourite iconic video game characters such as plumbers and Pokemon for a minute and focus on what this is. PlayStation All-Stars Battle Royale stands on its own two feet to show that it, too, has a place in this world.
-
Dec 10, 2012Battle Royale isn't the most original of games, then, but it's far more accessible than most fighters, rich in fan-service and PlayStation history, and a fun party game to boot. It may never particularly surprise or break any moulds, but it's a seriously fun, well-crafted brawler, and well worth a look, particularly for fans of the franchises it houses.
-
Dec 6, 2012While it has been accused of cloning the Super Smash Bros. franchise, in the end All-Stars Battle Royale is a game with its own character that will certainly satisfy the PlayStation die-hard fans.
-
Dec 5, 2012Oriented to the characters and for maximizing the possibilities of fighting, the fans will find here quite a proposal worthy of a reunion of stars.
-
Play UKNov 30, 2012A little light on characters and modes perhaps but all the same, Battle Royale is great fun. [Issue#225, p.54]
-
Nov 26, 2012We can't help but compare PlayStation All Stars: Battle Royale to Nintendo's Super Smash Brothers, even though it's not very relevant. Battle Royale creates its own identity quite well by providing great and addicting gameplay. It is far from perfectly polished, but in its base is a gameplay concept that guarantees days and days of fun.
-
Nov 22, 2012An entertaining effort, particularly in the company of friends. If you're playing on your own, though, it might seem just a little too sparse.
-
Nov 21, 2012The rock-solid fighting mechanics alone make it worth a look, but even non-fight fans can enjoy the frenzied fun of video game icons beating each other mercilessly. Where else can you see the brutally violent god of war bested by an anthropomorphic raccoon or a rapping puppy? Nintendo should be paying attention; it's not a genre of one anymore.
-
Nov 21, 2012Comparisons to the Super Smash Bros. series are apt, but PlayStation All-Stars Battle Royale stands on its own. If you're looking for a rich single-player experience that brings together all your favorite PlayStation characters into one ultimate story, this isn't your game. It is very evident that much of the focus went into character combat design for the explicit purpose of a deep online community and that's where PlayStation All-Stars Battle Royale excels.
-
Nov 20, 2012It's a well-thought-out game with responsive controls and a magnificent roster. It's the first game that I can confidently say gives Smash Brothers a run for its money. However, it's not perfect, and it certainly doesn't hold a candle to more balanced hardcore fighters on the market like Street Fighter, BlazBlue, Tekken, or Skullgirls.
-
Nov 20, 2012Latency issues aside, 90% of your time with PlayStation All-Stars is going to be spent fighting, away from the game's lifeless game modes, unlockables, and challenges. And that fighting, easily the most important factor of the game, is an absolute blast, even if the way it resolves doesn't always feel fairly tallied.
-
Nov 20, 2012Battle Royale has good roster, great netcode and online multiplayer with accessible and fun gameplay. But has mechanics that are too simple and some overpowered characters and attacks.
-
Nov 20, 2012While it doesn't innovate the genre to which it belongs in any way, Battle Royale is still simply fun, immediate and full of personality. From a technical point of view, the game does not allow complaints, while a moderate disappointment is to be expected in the lack of truly original modes that could have made the game a gem. Despite this, we encourage all to give Battle Royale a chance before calling it a copy of the legendary Smash Bros.
-
Nov 20, 2012Where it may lack in depth, it more than makes up for it in charm, personality, and style-exactly the same qualities that made each of the characters on the rosters memorable PlayStation icons.
-
Nov 20, 2012A tribute to the PlayStation fans that have supported the brand over the years, and whom have been eagerly awaiting a game like this since the advent of Smash Bros. SuperBot has delivered a game that embodies everything these iconic PlayStation franchises and characters offer, and it will surely make PlayStation fans proud.
-
Nov 20, 2012I know it'll be hard for some skeptics to believe, but PlayStation All-Stars is its own game, and it even happens to do some things better than what inspired it.
-
Official PlayStation Magazine BeneluxDec 4, 2012We're missing a bit of that Nintendo-magic when it comes to the environments. And the cast. While it is certainly representative of nearly twenty years of PlayStation, is missing the likes of Spyro and Crash Bandicoot. Or any character from Square Enix for that matter.[December 2012, p.70]
-
Dec 7, 2012Playstation All Star Battle Royale is a good Brawler Game with some issues in balancing that ruins the global experience.
-
Nov 27, 2012The gameplay itself is great, and a lot of fun, and I can see myself bringing it out to play when friends who have the game are over, and we'll have a ball with it, but the other areas just feel a bit lacking - online in particular.
-
Nov 21, 2012With All-Stars Battle Royale, SuperBot and Sony miss a great opportunity to properly celebrate the huge history of PlayStation. The game is fun and frantic, but it lacks of content and interesting unlockables.
-
Nov 20, 2012While it certainly won't win any points for originality, Battle Royale is a solid Smash Bros. clone that brings a few interesting, if flawed, innovations to the casual brawler.
-
Nov 20, 2012The game feels a tad lacking in content. Single player for each character takes less than 30 minutes to beat, multiplayer and versus aren't customizable by more than a few basic attributes – and unless you count the bonus challenges for each character, All-Stars will have you punching, kicking, shooting and supering your opponents for every moment you spend with it. More gameplay variety would have been nice.
-
Nov 20, 2012All-Stars is clearly similar to Smash Bros., especially because it's far more fun to play with friends. Solo, it quickly becomes repetitive and doesn't give you much reason to continue. If you have company over, however, PlayStation All-Stars Battle Royale can be a lot of chaotic fun.
