-
Play UKMay 27, 2013A joy to play. A huge story mode, rock-hard trials and great online will keep players occupied for a long time. [Issue#231, p.80]
-
Jun 2, 2013A great cross-genre splash that gives gamers a new fun and competitive fighting game to sink their teeth into. However, it may not appeal to those unfamiliar with the series.
-
May 23, 2013Persona 4 Arena is an awesome fighting game. The bizarre partnership between Arc System Works and Atlus has created an elegant, impressive, fun and worth buying game for both beginner and advanced players.
-
May 21, 2013Arc System Works proves once again that right now it's one of the best fighting game developers in the industry.
-
May 16, 2013Sporting satisfyingly deep, yet accessible fighting mechanics and a diverse range of gameplay modes, it’s hard to fault Arc System Works' intense entry into the Persona franchise. Persona 4 Arena is a focused and polished brawler that will appeal to both fans of the series and fighting aficionados alike, and has proven to be well worth the wait for European gamers.
-
Playstation Official Magazine AustraliaApr 3, 2013Combine some rock-solid fighting with a strategic Persona System (think: the ability to manifest a second, ghost buddy for 2 vs 1 beat downs) and Persona 4 Arena feels like a breath of fresh air. Round all that off with faultless versus and online modes, and you’re looking at a truly unique fighter that deserves to be noticed by mainstream gamers everywhere. [April 2013, p74]

Feb 28, 2013Much like Dissidia: Final Fantasy and Super Smash Bros., Persona 4: Arena is a fighting game spin-off tailored for the fans, first and foremost. Whether or not those fans also enjoy the fighting game genre in addition to RPGs, there is enough content and callbacks that make this purchase a no-brainer.
-
Sep 5, 2012A superbly effective combination of the very best of Persona's storytelling and character design, with one of the best 2D fighters of the modern era.
-
Aug 31, 2012Simply put, it's one of the best fighters to grace the console. It'll keep you coming back for more over and over, but I did find myself wishing there were more characters and more of the story. Still, as a fighter, it hits all of the high marks.
-
Aug 24, 2012With an absolutely stellar presentation, some of the most memorable tracks picked from the last game, an arsenal of modes to play, and one of the lengthiest stories in a fighting game, Persona 4 Arena has everything a fighter should have, plus more.
-
Aug 20, 2012Persona 4 Arena is as eccentric and Japanese as it gets. Anyone who has ever enjoyed a JPRG will love the game even if fighting games aren't their forte.
-
Aug 9, 2012Persona 4 Arena is a solid, accessible entry point for both fighting games and the Persona series without disappointing hardcore fans of either.
-
Aug 9, 2012Not only was I treated to a fine fighting game worth playing, but I got the chance to spend more time with beloved characters who I never guessed I'd ever be revisiting. My compliments to both Atlus and Arc System Works for producing a superb game that far exceeded my expectations.
-
GameTrailersAug 7, 2012By appropriately mating the strengths and traits of its mixed heritage, Persona 4 Arena flourishes as a fantastically realized fighting game that stands tall even without resting on the laurels of legacy.
-
Aug 7, 2012This dream collaboration between Atlus and Arc System Works brings us a game that will easily stand out even in the crowded fighting game segment. It's also sure to serve as a gateway drug for both RPG and fighting game fans to cross to the other side. Really, there's nothing else quite like this.
-
Aug 7, 2012If you're a JRPG or fighter fanatic with even a hint of interest in the other genre, P4A is an absolute must-buy. With such a wealth of story-based content laid on top of the game's steadfast 2D fighting foundations, P4A's impressive debut sets the bar high for all forthcoming fighters.
-
Aug 7, 2012It weaves the majesty and imagination of one of the best role playing franchises of all-time into the snarling bravado of a one-on-one brawler so effortlessly, one wonders why it's never been done so well until now.
-
Aug 17, 2012Staggeringly beautiful and provides just enough fan service for the RPG players while ramping up the challenge for the fighting game guys.
-
May 29, 2013With its stunning visuals, enormous substance and strong online community, it’s a fighter that comes easily recommended. You see, good things really do come to those who wait.
-
Aug 7, 2012It has a robust story, an interesting system, a magnificent roster, and wonderful music. It's a great package that suffers from a few design choices I simply don't agree with. However, they are but small nitpicks in an otherwise enjoyable game.
-
Official PlayStation Magazine BeneluxSep 4, 2013Fans of the series will rejoice, but newcomers who never tuned in unto the Midnight Channel may be overwhelmed by the walls of text developer Arc Systems throws at the player. Luckily for them, there is still an arcade mode to enjoy. [June 2013, p.78]
-
May 6, 2013If you like fighting games, Persona, or - better yet - both, you’ll be well served by Persona 4 Arena. It’s familiar yet unique, and has enough stuff that’s all its own to warrant its existence.
-
Jul 30, 2013Persona 4: Arena is a great fighting game, able to conquer without much difficulty the hearts of the genre lovers.
-
Jul 2, 2013It takes a lot from Blazblue's combat system, but remains a great game in its own right, due to some brilliant mechanics and a balanced and varied roster.
-
Jun 7, 2013Persona 4: Arena is an excellent fighting game and probably one of the best entries in Arc System Works line-up. Fans of the genre will have lot of fun with it even without touching the story mode, while fans of the Persona franchise will appreciate the visual novel campaign.
-
Jun 6, 2013A great beat 'em up, perfect for a quick and easy match but also very deep for the "power user". If you're not familiar with the Persona series, the long story mode may confuse you a bit, but the gameplay is solid and extremely fun.
-
May 24, 2013The story is interesting but a bit too long. The gameplay is both deep and accessible, but the incredible amount of options might be a bit overwhelming. The graphics are endearing, but not everyone's easily enamoured by manga. For fans of Persona or Guilty Gear only.
-
May 9, 2013Persona 4 Arena is, without a doubt, a wonderful tribute to a great series that has been going strong for years. Fans will find many elements and features that are well known for the Persona franchise. The downside of this is that newcomers to the series will have a harder time to fully appreciate this beat 'em up spin-off for what it is.
-
May 9, 2013A great and refreshing new game concept for one of the most beloved JRPG sagas in this industry. Solid, fast and fun 2D beat´em up playability.
-
May 9, 2013The accessible brother of the Guilty Gear and BlazBlue titles, ArcSystem Works has done a fantastic job twisting the Persona series into a fighting game spin-off.
-
Aug 7, 2012Mastering the mechanics of this engine involves a lot of time and effort in the training room. This game hits a lot of the notes that catch the attention of casual and hardcore fighting game fans, even if it won't necessarily bring them together.
-
Aug 7, 2012Learning a character's combos and special abilities is complimented by learning their innermost motivations and fears. These are fighters you can care about, and this is a fighting game everyone should play.
-
Aug 7, 2012I'm not totally convinced that the copy of Persona 4 Arena that I'm holding in my hands is real, because the idea of a Persona-based 2D fighter actually existing still baffles my brain. For as long as it does exist as something that I can play, though, it's an elaborate yet engrossing fighter that packs a ton of content, charm, and competition for those willing to put in the time required to master its offerings.
-
May 29, 2013It’s successful on so many fronts; a new entry in the genre that stands aside long-term franchise veterans, deftly combining a worthy story with the fighter structure and painting believable characters that don’t overstay their welcome or pander to fanservice. All of these points and more make Persona 4 Arena a balanced, thoroughly enjoyable fighter. Even though it does school you from time to time.
-
May 24, 2013Because of its accessibility on the one end, depth on the other and loads of fans, Persona 4: Arena is blessed with a long life. It might drop the ball on storytelling here and there, but that doesn't take away from the fact that we're dealing with a great and beautiful fighting game here.
-
Playstation Official Magazine UKMay 22, 2013Immaculately presented and infectiously bombastic. [June 2013, p.108]
-
games(TM)May 20, 2013Online play, pleasingly, holds up its end of the bargain. [Issue#135, p.118]
-
May 14, 2013It plays super-slick, is easy to learn, all the while still offering enough depth to take on the competition. Just like with all the other Beat 'em' Ups, though, you can't help but wonder when the genre will take its next evolutionary step.
-
May 10, 2013Those expecting a tale on par with Atlus’ remarkable RPG may be disappointed, then, but Persona 4 Arena’s thoughtfully designed combat system has been well worth the wait.
-
May 10, 2013This game will find fans with both Persona 4 players and gamers who spend their days mastering combos in Street Fighter, Blazblu and King of the Fighters. The fight engine is solid and the game is filled with charm. Be prepared to have to put the hours in though, this is a game that needs to be mastered in order to get the most out of it.
-
Aug 29, 2012Persona 4 Arena is an awesome game. There is a lot here for fans of both fighting games and Persona. Though it is difficult to recommend to gamers who are not fans of the genre or the franchise, especially as the story mode can seriously drag at times. Still, this is a great game that is definitely worth a purchase.
-
Playstation: The Official Magazine (US)Aug 28, 2012Fan service doesn't get any better than this. [Oct 2012, p.84]
-
Aug 7, 2012Persona 4 Arena is a fast-paced fighter that can be easily enjoyed even if you're not a Persona fan. With the auto-combo system, combat is initially accessible, but it quickly reveals its complexity as you explore the intricacies of each character's persona and individual traits.
-
Aug 7, 2012It's a weird mixing of genres that might leave diehard fans on either side of the genre line wondering if they'd even be capable of fully enjoying the game. But it ends up working out reasonably well.
-
Aug 7, 2012Persona 4: Arena is easy to recommend to anyone and everyone thanks to its approachable, deep gameplay. If you're new to the Persona series, this is a shallow spot to jump in and see if the characters and universe are for you.
-
Hyper MagazineMay 9, 2013Better late than never, P4 Arena is a strange beast that is at turns both satisfying and terribly long-winded. [June 2013, p.76]
