  1. Tries to mix up the formula a bit too much, and the results aren’t perfect.

Solid, slightly humdrum. [Jan 2008, p.78]
  3. NHL 2K8 is a generally fun hockey game, though its new control scheme is a step backward for the series.
  4. 70
In the end, 2K8 is a great distraction until the season starts, but if you want to put your time into a better game, EA's NHL 08 is the dynasty worth your dough.
  5. 70
Despite all that's good with the game, NHL 2K8's innovations are a few years behind the times, making it feel like a cheap rehash of what's already available.

Hardcore hockey fans with plenty of patience will reap big rewards from 2K8, but if it's an easy way in you're after, stick with EA's superior "NHL 08." [Dec 2007, p.114]
  7. NHL 2K7 is cheaper and more fun to play than NHL 2K8. Rush out to the discount bin and get yours now!
  8. NHL 2K8 should be sent back to the minors for some retooling. Gameplay is king, and 2K8 plays fourth-line checker to the competition’s first line superstar.
  9. The problems with Pro Stick are inexcusable, the implementation completely factoring out the human holding the controller.

What separates 2K8 from 08 is its in-depth controls, its fabulous dekes and speed and flow which rivals real hockey. A must for true hockey What separates 2K8 from 08 is its in-depth controls, its fabulous dekes and speed and flow which rivals real hockey. A must for true hockey fans and not arcade players. The only advantage 08 has is the cool detail of the marks left on the ice by each skate. Easily left behind by those wanting the best! Full Review »

It's not bad, but I would hold off for EA Sports latest offerings. It just lacks the *punch* that EA always delivers in the same series.
