EA's game has grown into the role of the hockey simulation, while NHL 2K has become a better and better version of what hard core hockey fans see as a casual game - lots of scoring. This year is no different, and NHL 2K10 has made some of the most needed improvements while staying consistent to its identity - as a welcoming game that gives us the chance to play like the Ovechkins and Crosbys.

Playstation: The Official Magazine (US)2K's NHL game is still maturing - it needs another year of fine-tuning to release its full flavor - but still, you won't be disappointed if you partake of it now. [Nov 2009, p.81]

A nice new part in the franchise. NHL 10 of Electronic Arts is a lot better, but this game is also pretty good fun.
-
Too many times, it just feels as if you don’t have total control over what’s going on during a match, and the AI is questionable.
-
The package as a whole isn’t as polished and deep as NHL 10, but its accessibility and fun factor certainly counts for something. It looks great too, and with online modes that extend the challenge and lifespan of the game, NHL 2K10 has come as close as its ever done to matching EA’s game.
-
NHL 2K10 talks a good game with it’s brilliant TV-style presentation and is almost every bit as comprehensive as its competitor, but when it comes down to the clutch, 2K can’t quite seem to ‘squeeze it’ where it really counts.
-
Play UKPerfectly decent. [Issue#186, p.80]
-
NHL 2K10 may be a shallow, straightforward arcade hockey game, but it isn't without its charms.
-
In conclusion, NHL 2K10 is a big improvement from 2K9. 2K is still well behind EA at this point in generating an all around deep sim, but next year I'm hoping for a much closer matchup.
-
It's hard to recommend a game when there is a clearly superior alternative on the market that does everything so wonderfully. NHL 2K10 isn't bad and it is poised to make a run at the EA franchise sooner rather than later. But for this year, unless you are completely adverse to anything other than a quick arcade hockey fix, NHL 10 is the game to get.
-
While it does bring some good things to the table, NHL 2K10 unfortunately stumbles on the most important aspects of a good hockey game. Sluggish game speed, unreliable controls, and bland game modes leave the game several steps behind its competition.
-
NHL 2K10 isn’t a bad effort, it just feels like the development team spent most of their time on the graphics and forgot about adding a worthwhile game mode.
-
NHL 2K10 is just above sufficiency. In spite of Visual Concepts’ experience, it still lags behind NHL 10, especially as far as the online mode is concerned. There are some animation glitches too, affecting the overall gaming experience.
-
Are you fond of hockey and do you want to play a match once in a while? Then NHL 2K10 is a good title for you. But if you're looking for a more serious game, EA's NHL 10 will be a better choice.
-
NHL 2K10 isn't a bad game, but lacks depth. The Franchise Mode isn't developed well enough and it all feels a bit too arcade-ish, which probably wasn't 2K Sports' goal. Slow action on the ice degrades the sense of speed. Graphically it looks good, but the gameplay needs work. Luckily, the online and offline multiplayer helps it a bit.

LEVEL (Czech Republic)Arcade ice-hockey game with obsolete graphics and controls is open to newcomers. Don’t expect real hockey this is a pure arcade where you shoot... and you scores! [Issue#186]
-
With its various bugs, issues with physics and AI, and lackluster visuals, it would be hard to recommend the game as a bargain title, much less a full priced game.
-
With unresponsive skating and stickhandling skills, NHL 2K10 is a troubled hockey prospect. With so many red flags, we recommend passing this prospect over.
-
2K Sports and Visual Concepts seem to be stuck in the last generation of hockey games and the game doesn’t stand a chance against EA Sports NHL10. It seems that Visual Concept know that they can’t compete with EA Sports and developing something halfheartedly instead of building something new and exciting from the ground.
-
There is still a better product for consumers to pick up this year, and this is not it.
-
NHL 2K10 is a great arcade game if you just want to play a around with your friends, but once you get deeper into the different playing modes the flaws really start to show.
