    All the praise this game has received is deserving and I agree with all of it! Any zero or one ratings are clearly not well thought out and therefore don't hold any weight. I think the main problem I had with this game was an internal one, as supposed to being the fault of the creators. That said I am looking forward to playing it through again on a harder difficulty and trying to complete all the unlockable stuff. The fact that levels can be completed a multitude of different ways and that no two battles between the PMC's and the militants are the same should ensure that the game has good replay value.… Expand

    At last we have found a game that can only be described as Art. After decades of trying to be recognized as such. The game lifts you up and brings you down. t has been said that games can only become art when they can make their gamers cry. I cried during MGS4 (towards the end of Act 4), and I'm not afraid to admit it. A masterpiece.

    If you're an idiot, the game's probably not going to make much sense to you. MGS4's plot encompasses three other titles. It's very complex and deep, though the Gears of War masses will think it's convoluted because of the required intellectual capacity. The difficulty curve might be steep for newbs, but a half hour to an hour of practice will yield positive results. I would trust the critics, mainly IGN and Gamespot; most other media are really just trying to get their names out there.     Yes its a good game but would being able to jump be too difficult? Snake can not climb a 3ft wall and is nowhere as agile as a Lara Croft. Its a shame the environment is so rigid and not a sandbox level where alternate strategies can be employed. Shoot an enemy and in a minute their gun will disappear leaving the body, bit odd that do they evaporate or something?

    Okay, so it appears to me that more than half of the Users negatively reviewing this game are Halo-obsessed fanboys, who obviously can't understand and/or comprehend the absolutely amazing story this game has. I've played all of the MGS's (excluding Acid,) so I know what's going on and why. If you're used to games with incredibly expansive story-lines, then you'll probably be fine. If you're not used to the concept of "story" in a video game, (Yeah, I'm talking to you, Halo-fans) then either rent the first three so you can understand the story and become immersed in this wonderful game, or piss off. I mean, don't just rate it down because you can't go around head-shotting aliens for the entire game. Putting all of that aside, I have simply 3 problems with this game. 1) Meryl is too buff. Seriously, it's creepy for a girl to be that muscular. 2) Snake needs to stop getting it on with the ground. The slow-crawl looks way too...odd. 3) Beginning-game is way too slow paced.     Absolutely the most enthralling cinematic game experience I've played, ever. Addicting gameplay, plenty of options, weapons and equipment to satisfy war junkies, and varied action along with intense character development make this game excel on all fronts. The audio design and visuals set a new bar.

    Too long movies made me sleep and too short playing time .But it's on PS3 so I give a 3 if it on wii or pc or360 i'll give a 0 .PS3 IS BEST.

    I've played Metal Gear Solid 1 and 2, and unfortunately didn't have the time for MGS3. But of the 3 i played, MGS4 definitely is the best one. And friends who played all MGS so far say the same. It's simply amazing how this game absorbs you from the first second. Before even starting the game, and just looking at the Menu and waiting for several seconds procures an "epic" I've played Metal Gear Solid 1 and 2, and unfortunately didn't have the time for MGS3. But of the 3 i played, MGS4 definitely is the best one. And friends who played all MGS so far say the same. It's simply amazing how this game absorbs you from the first second. Before even starting the game, and just looking at the Menu and waiting for several seconds procures an "epic" feeling. This feeling is carried through the whole game. There wasn't one second I wanted to put my controller away, I could play this game for months to come. The cutscene's never felt too long, I actually wouldn't even have a problem if Kojima would just release dozens of movies with this incredible engine Konami created. There has never been any engine with this unbelievable detail. Rockstar created an awesome engine - Rage - as well, but it focuses on different Details. The gameplay is great as well. The game offers you so many different way to play through the level because of the countless elements options you get offered. The boss battles are so different from each other, and many of them are tricky to master, especially for those who never played a MGS before. The 5 chapters vary widely, and give you a little retroperspective as well. I could go on and on... all I can say to everybody is: buy this game, lock yourself in a room, and play through it! Definitely the best game this Generation so far and it deserves nothing less than a perfect score.… Expand

    This game is a perfect closure for the MGS Saga. The story is perfectly driven by videos less than by codec, which is great. Maybe that's why it only fits in Blu-ray. The game has an awesome but not easy gameplay. Problems: The first briefings are kinda boring.

    This "game" is quite frustrating. There are more cutscenes than there is gameplay. The story makes no sense, the controls are clunky. I had very little fun with this game.

    love the game. I recommend playing the big boss hard difficulty. The psyche meter will truly play part in the gameplay, staying out of the sun, will lower the stress meter. Use playboy magazine when psyche meter is low, it will quickly regenerate the psyche meter. Play the game stealthily and the game will be rewarding but if you play it run and gun, thats when the real stress of life love the game. I recommend playing the big boss hard difficulty. M4 will be given by drevin early on, buy suppressor for it, so whenever you kill PMC soldier, it wouldnt be immediately obvious who killed there comrade. During the boss battle when they shed off there camouflage and appear as human and walks towards you slowly, use ipod in the item window and play Oishii Chuhan Seikatsu, the beauties starts to dance, and even sunny would to the tunes, very entertaining. love the raiden mask, such a badass character, better than solid snake. I love Johnny Akiba, so handsome and funny. When Akiba removes his mask to mouth to mouth meryl, damn he looks hot. Hopefully Akiba would be the main character for MGS5 and also meryl as playable character. The only thing i didnt like is how david hayter voice the character, cough voice of snake, hard to understand snakes words, all because of david hayter.… Expand

    One of the most epic games I have ever played and as for the cutscenes, I like watching them because then I know what was going on from there since I'm not like impatient people who just go and rush throughout the game. Buy this game NOW!

Even over GTA4 (being a hardcore GTA fan) I would say MGS4 should be considered GOTY, if not GOTC or even GOAT (Greatest Of All Time)...     Video is great...the game is fun 70% of the time, however the guns are not Supper accurate you have a circle as your pointer with no definitive kill point the circle just has to be on whatever you are killing.     I give this game a 10 because it is one of the best games i have ever played it is flawless but there are times where you have to give it time with the movie scenes but over all it is worth all of the hours no other came can touch this the only other game right up there is call of duty and thats really about it.

The gameplay, though improved, is still your typical MGS fare albeit with over-the-shoulder shooter elements - but we've already seen this done MGS4 is a fantastic game when you add up all the elements; but the story, unfortunately, is a disappointment.     First of all let me address the so called biggest issue with the game. Yes the cut scenes are super long, but you can fing skip them! I hate i mean i HATE long cut scenes. But, I felt they were all very compelling and I didn't feel disconnected to the game like some say, instead, I felt like I wanted to play it more to get to the next cut scene for the next twist! The game does miss modern gaming features (cover shooting system, I mean come on) but it feels just like a metal gear game and the flaws def. do not out way the good. Other than that, some of the boss fights disappointed me (crying wolf and def. raging raven), but there are plenty of more that are very hard and are some of the series best. This game is def. the best in the series and worth owning or buying a PS3 for...If you a MG fan at least. If you hated the other ones there nothing to hook you on this one either.… Expand

    Great game, probably the deepest I have ever played. If you have any doubts about getting this game, just get it. The only bad reviews of this game come from 360 fans who have never played it. Trust me, read some of the bad ones below.

This game is one epic adventure and one of the best storylines to boot. I'm soley a PC gamer but this game made me get a ps3 and i really haven't looked back since, online is awesome as well.     This game is by far one of the best games I have ever played, and thats having played over 400 games. The story is neatly wrapped up closing off every plot and twist there has ever been in the series, all of it managing to link together rather well. The gameplay is excellent, the FPS mechanics have been greatly improved although not really needing to be as the game is a SNEAKING game. I have already played through the game 3 times adding up to a total of 20 hours of singleplayer gameplay and have played MGO for about 20 hours as well. This easily makes the game a very affordable piece of entertainment. I highly recommend this to anyone with a PS3 and anyone who is a fan of the old games. I even know people who had never played MGS before but love this game. Game of the Year contender easily.… Expand

Metal Gear Solid 4 is THE first game that has taken my emotions and thrown them against the wall, the floor, the ceiling and out the door. Best game I've ever played, and I played quite a few. To people complaining about long cutscenes: every single one of them is skippable. You're saying that if you skip the cutscenes, you won't understand what's Move over Ocarina of Time, MGS4 is finally here. This game has everything: graphics, sound, story, art direction, replay value, and, most importantly, gameplay. Best game I've ever played, and I played quite a few. To people complaining about long cutscenes: every single one of them is skippable. You're saying that if you skip the cutscenes, you won't understand what's going on; well, if the story is not keeping you entertained, then there is no point in watching them in the first place. And this is to the person who said Halo 3 is better than MGS4: get off Microsoft's lap and look around. I'd understand if you tried to compare MGS4 to Bioshock or even Gears of War, but Halo 3 doesn't even deserve to be mentioned on the same page as MGS4. If you can't wait and watch extremely outstanding scenes, how do you play other games with cut-scenes; what more, games with stories/graphics that have less impact(games that are not as good) than this one?

The story includes aspects of comedy, romance, horror, and drama. You will literally be at the edge of your seat when huge pieces of plot are revealed and questions from past games are answered. This is by far the best Metal Gear Solid game in the series, and that is saying a lot. Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots is one of the best examples of great storytelling in a video game. The story includes aspects of comedy, romance, horror, and drama. You will literally be at the edge of your seat when huge pieces of plot are revealed and questions from past games are answered. The graphics are amazing and the cut scenes are lengthy (especially at the end), but this game is one of the best I've played, the best available on the PS3, and has one of the best climaxes that any game has ever had. The online play is very good as well with fun game types and addiction levels rivaling that of Call of Duty 4's multiplayer. Solid Snake is the face of the PS3, so if you own one, do yourself a favor and go out and pick this game up. You will not be disappointed.… Expand

    METAL GEAR SOLID 4 has got to be the WORST Metal Gear game in the series since Metal Gear Solid 2. I wanted to play the game but after crawling and sneaking my way through a few small maps in several areas, I found myself having to suffer through countless hours of boring movie scenes. Even the ending didn't help redeem it in any way. The only redeeming factor of this game was the METAL GEAR SOLID 4 has got to be the WORST Metal Gear game in the series since Metal Gear Solid 2. I wanted to play the game but after crawling and sneaking my way through a few small maps in several areas, I found myself having to suffer through countless hours of boring movie scenes. Even the ending didn't help redeem it in any way. The only redeeming factor of this game was the boss battles which I hoped would only get better after facing off with Octopus but they actually seemed to get easier and more uninteresting until the major faceoff with the two metal gears beating the crap out of each other which was definitely the highlight of the game and I thoroughly enjoyed it for what it was but let's be honest, the play control on the REX metal gear sucked. The last stand between Snake and Liquid where you are punching the crap out of each other was so horrible when it came to play control that I wanted to take my six axis controller and boomerang it at the programmers of this game. I am glad that Kojima will never make another Metal Gear title. What ever happened to the GREATNESS of Metal Gear Solid 3? Metal Gear Solid 3 was definitely the defining moment of the series and we should just leave it at that. If you want to not be disappointed, don't buy MGS4, it will only drain your wallet and leave you with a bad taste in your mouth of buyer's remorse. Borrow this title from any fool who was dumb enough to buy it.… Expand

    This game looks so good, it feels like hi-definition on a standard-def tv. Also, be prepared for long, but awesome cutscenes and perfect gameplay with incredible battlefield awareness due to the new ''Solid eye'' Snake wears over his left eye.

    This is living. I bought a PS3 solely for this game, and it was worth it. It is the greatest Metal Gear Solid game of them all, and I am so glad I got it.

    Almost unplayable. You can't skip the endless cutscenes unless you want to be lost, and you want to kill yourself while waiting to play!

    This game is simply amazing the graphics blow out of the water every game on every platform that has gone before and they are third in quality behind the perfect sound and a story which Akiri Kurosawa would be proud of! If you have ever seen Seven Samurai or played any MGS game you will be brought to your knees by the sheer quality of this game!

    Beautiful cut scenes, although sometimes a bit long. For me there is NOT enough action in the gameplay. Sneaking around all the time gets old. Also I feel that the aiming system is a bit off at times. But still the game is fun, it's just so much more that could have been done with this. Overall I feel that this game is a bit overrated by the big boys, not sure why so many rated this Beautiful cut scenes, although sometimes a bit long.     By far the best and most in depth Metal Gear game in the series. The story line swept me away as everything from the previous games came together. I almost shed a tear at the end of the game. The only thing that upset me was that I wasn't able to play as Raiden.

When you're done slogging through long boring mission briefings you get a few levels to sneak or shoot around that are good. Then another awful cut scene - then maybe a rail-shooting chase scene.     This game is one of the best games I have ever played. While being my first proper run through of any MGS game, I had found the storyline intriguing and captivating. However, because of the absurd art style and themes (which I absolutely love), some people are going to be put off strongly.     This game did everything brilliantly. The gameplay was awesome, the graphics were beautiful, and the voice over work and music was some of the best I've seen in a game. I usually don't feel anything one way or another when I'm playing a game, but in MGS4 I actually cared, and was moved by the cutscenes and all of the emotion and action they contained. MGS4 ended the story This game did everything brilliantly. The gameplay was awesome, the graphics were beautiful, and the voice over work and music was some of the best I've seen in a game.     Surpasses the immense hype. Acting is great, story is amazing, gameplay is too. This game had a ton of effort put into it. Truly a masterpiece. Easily the best game of this generation, maybe even the best game ever.

    This game is the best game i think i have ever played, that includes the legendary LOZ ocarina of time. I truly have no idea how GTA IV got a higher score than this masterpiece.

So I will give it a 9.5. Anyhow the game itself is great, graphically, audio is spot on.     A truly spectacular experience. The revamped aiming system lets you play the game like a shooter, but the Octocamo makes stealth more interesting. There's no other game like this. Gamers owe it to themselves to play it.

    This game is terrible, I buy games to play them not to watch long cut scenes of some nonsensical story. Cinematics can't save this game, the gameplay is awful too. Stealth is done better by several other games, and it is a bad excuse for a shooter as well. Stay away...

    I will give this a 10, mainly because this has shown what PS3 can handle. Yes, Kojima said himself that it wasn't up to his expectations, but he is a Perfectionists. Story wise it is truly something else, it lives up to expectations that many were wanting. Game play it's different and makes you keep wanting to play. Yes, it does have long cut-scenes but it does not off set it from the true colors. Replay is definitely a 10/10 on it's own, since skipping the cut-scenes opens up a lot of game play. Yes, the game could have been better in Kojima's eyes. All great minds end up not liking there work, it's a fact. It's just that way, can't fault the game because it is very perfect.… Expand

    Pros: great voice acting, nice action sequences, octocamo is just unbelievable, nice control scheme Cons: huge installation and load times between stages, too much cinemas hurt the pacing, the graphics are far from what was promised, enemies still walk like robots, cluttered story for first time players.

    I'm a fan of Metal Gear Solid since the first one came out for PS1. They all took my breath away and made me laugh for joy like no other game. This one is no exception, in fact, it's a lot more than I expected. Metal Gear Solid 4 is more than a game. It's like the best novel, with the greatest storyline, the best movie, and the best game, all-in-one.

But 3 years later, another generation passes, and this is how I am rewarded. Now I just hope Final Fantasy 13 can deliver like this title did and my Xbox 360 will be a permanent paperweight.     Boring, poor graphics/textures, no surprise I didn't play more than 15 minutes like all others previously released Metal Gear, such hype, nothing to deliver, could have been released on PS2, too many videos, and too many fanboys giving it 10.

    By far the best out of the entire series. Hideo and his clan put together one of the most inspirational games ever made. So much detail, beautiful animations, compelling script and story telling. I am overwhelmed by the amount of content in this game. 11 out of 10!

    The first game to really go for a perfect experience, if by the end of the game you haven't been wowed, cried, been touched, hate liquid, love ocelot....you simply don't have a pulse.

    Cinematically wonderful, and stealth/action has never been so great. This is the type of game that all its moments will live in your head for days to come. If there is one game you can only play, make it Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots. You will not be disappointed!
