I've never encountered a game that seems so intent on keeping the player from actually playing the game. "Immersion" does not involve taking the player out of the action for 30+ minutes at a time.

Absolutely epic. Cannot stress how fantastic this is. Yes it's more movie than game. But what there is to play is awesome. The cut-scenes look great, and really heighten the thrill when playing. At times I almost cried. Not forgetting you're getting the awesome online mode too. Think I shall be happy for a long long time with this.

Where do I begin? A perfect blend of everything. The timing and execution of a wealth of various gameplay elements are masterfully done. You'll be experiencing everything in this game; from chills to thrills, maybe even shed a tear or two in the process. Oh, yeah, and bring pop-corn for the long, yet beautifully done cut-scenes.

This game is amazing, it's soo epic and an excellent way to close off this legendary series. It deserves every 10/10 score it receives... Anyone who rates it 6 or lowers are obviously xbots that want to rate the game lower... it's pathetic really.

Cons: Only 5 to 7 hours of gameplay, holding down 3 buttons to perform actions, lack of contextual actions (climbing), loading doors everywhere that lose the enemies. pros: i got to use my ps3 for something other than uncharted, cutscenes, SNAKE!!!

I would have given this game a 9, but since so many **** out there like to give games 0's and 1's for minor disappointments or not well-founded disappointments (ex: some guy saying it was too slow paced for him and that he prefferred fast paced shooters - well...go play a fast paced shooter and spare yourself looking like a moron and reviewing a game that doesn't even apply I would have given this game a 9, but since so many **** out there like to give games 0's and 1's for minor disappointments or not well-founded disappointments (ex: some guy saying it was too slow paced for him and that he prefferred fast paced shooters - well...go play a fast paced shooter and spare yourself looking like a moron and reviewing a game that doesn't even apply to you). Anyway this game has a beautiful story and really rewards fans of the series. The cut scenes can be a bit unnecessarily long at times, and the play control is nice and polishes what we expected of it. IF they were to completely change the play control to be "less dated" then it wouldn't be Metal gear solid now would it? if you want different play control, play a different shooter and stop whining. I love Call of Duty 4, it has vastly different play control, but i love this game too. Just open your mind a bit you haters. No developer in the gaming community really digs this deep into a game as Kojima does. I applaud his opus. Expand

This is a piece of brilliance created by Konami. It has one of the best storylines in a game ever and the gameplay is ultra realistic. I honestly don't know how anyone could not like this game!

Kojima has outdone himself with an amazing story that will keep you guessing at every moment. But the loose ends are tied up nicely with every cutscene answering a question. This is a problem though when your friends haven't played it and want to but you don't want to spoil it, but it is still the best game that has come out ever, even beating Tetris and pong. One of the best games ever to exist regardless of platform. Only minus (could be) is that briefing videos are toooooo long. I almost fell asleep during a briefing. You could say definite purchase but I've completed the game in just 2 days and it cost me just 4 euros to rent it (saved 65 One of the best games ever to exist regardless of platform. This is the part where like every single other person here I either show I'm a PS3 fanboy and rate it 10 or show I'm 360/Wii fanboy (both good consoles to) and rate it 0. Yet since I'm neither I'll split the difference and give it a 5.

This is the release the PS3 has been waiting for. I have friends asking me whether or not to buy a PS3 and i show them this game and they are sold after like 10 minutes. I bought this game on the midnight release and played it straight for 20 hours with only a couple of bathroom breaks. Simply couldnt put the sticks down.

Like for example I was playing it with my friend who's into games like Call of Duty and he thought it was stupid that there were robots and playboys and other unrealistic or silly elements... but all the Metal Gear's before this one were the same in terms of 'believability', so if that leaves a bad taste in your mouth after playing it then I guess you can't like Resistance or Halo or any other game like that either. I had a hard time getting into the game, but after an 1 hour. I liked it more and more! AMAZING graphics! and this is coming from a PC gamer! The gameplay is great as well, and you have to love the cut scenes! Its feels like being in a movie rather then playing a game! HIGHLY RECOMMEND IT!

Absolutely amazing work of artistry and production from Hideo Kojima and his team! There are stories that Metal Gear isn't over yet, since Kojima said he's still thinking in a Famitsu interview, but MGS4 is a great finish to Solid Snake's saga!

This is the greatest game ever made. From its rich and intricate storyline, to its immersive and varied gameplay, every detail is so well-crafted that the player is not left wanting in any area. Oh, and there's an awesome online mode that trumps just about anything else out there. I repeat, this is the greatest game ever made.

There are two plots in Metal Gear games. The cyperpunk G.I. Joe in Die Hard 1 individual stories and the epic Lost meets anime Metal Gear universe. I look back at various parts with mixed feelings, but when the game is good its literally "BEST GAME EVER" good--in the same way the original was. While the original games stuck to humble basic stories in one location, for better or worse, MGS4 is all over the map and feels more like an Indiana Jones then a Die Hard. I can see many places of improvement but I can still easily call it the best game of this generation. Presentation wise, this is where we all wanted videogames to go a decade ago. With no pretention, I can see it is a more creative and fulfilling effort then any 2008 summer blockbuster. There are so many great moments that pay tribute to the previous games in a way that is more satisfying than in any other medium (don't want to spoil anything) and Kojima, while he plays many old tricks, finds ways to interact in ways that only the medium of video games could pull off. It might be flawed, but its still a masterpiece. Expand

If you've ever loved any one of the Metal Gear games, or any moments from the series, there will come a moment when MGS 4 will send your spirits soaring. If you've loved them all, well then there'll be many, many more. It’s a masterpiece.
