Unbelievable, I waited a long time for this game and it definitely made the wait worth it. The graphics are amazing, the story is well told as you play, and the stealth component is a lot of fun. This game contains a lot of 'wow' moments too. Certainty a must for your collection.

Simply amazing! I was amazed at how the cut scenes and the game play were seamless! I have never seen that before in a video game! This is the game of the year, over GTA IV by a long shot! I agree with IGN...if this game could get an "11", it would! BUY it!

One word: WOW. This is the latest and the final installment of MGS saga. It literally answers every single question you had about MGS saga. Although I prefer some of stuff left to be unanswered, it does it nicely anyways. This "game" cannot be seen as a mere video game. It seems Kojima reached ultimate art form in interactive media. Although I prefer some of stuff left to be unanswered, it does it nicely anyways. This "game" cannot be seen as a mere video game. It seems Kojima reached ultimate art form in interactive media. Some might argue gameplay might be lacking in ratio to cutscenes. However, it all depends out how you play the game. You can play in easy setting and go all out Rambo-style and be done with a level within minutes. On the other hand, you can play in harder difficulties and sneak with out hurting anyone. Harder difficulties make Rambo-style near impossible due to various limitations, like increased damage. I found NORMAL difficulty for MGS4 much easier than previous MGS games. Thus, I was taking action/all out approach more often than previous MGS games. Almost all cutscenes have some sort of interactivity imbedded in them, similar to MGS3. You can often see what Snake is actually seeing or trigger flashbacks. Talk abut flash backs, Kojima plays with your nostalgia. It often makes funs of itself and previous MGS games to toy with your memories. Remember Psycho Mantis from MGS1? Remember how you defeated him? Try it on one of the bosses. People have been praising MGS4's visual fidelity. Yeah, it's amazing. It's given for MGS series to leap beyond any games in visual department. Actually, the sound in this game is the most impressive part to me. As a result of using Skywalker Ranch (used for movies) to do sound recordings, the game's 5.1 mix is superior to many feature films. With truely amazing sound and AAA film-like angles on cutscenes and gameplay, it make the experience much better than previous ones. Most reviews won't tell you that you need to install for 8 minutes initially, and for 3 minutes in between ACTS. Loading is lot more frequent than expected due to real-time cutscenes. Some cutscenes load after another. Little things, but they weren't too annoying. If you are a FAN or feel like take a role in an epic 15 hour interactive art film, be my guest and play it! THIS IS THE REASON TO OWN PS3. Expand

Good game but horribly overrated/overhyped. The biggest problem is it's niche market. Whilst it might cater to some people, it won't bring new people to the series nor be a huge system seller. After the most likely lackluster sales, it might even come to the 360 so no rush for a PS3.

I'm not sure what's wrong with GameDaily, games(TM), EuroGamer or Edge, but I don't see how you can give this game anything less than a 90, if that. While it does have it's slow moments (a certain cutscene takes forever - but to show everything that is happening in one second usually takes about 10 in any game or movie), it always speeds up just in time. The ony thing I miss from any of the previous games is the animals; while there are a few, there are not as many as in MGS3, but this can be expected. There are other minor details that could've been clearer, but then the game would've taken another year, and the extra dwelling time for the developers and gamers would've only damaged the title further. Also, the Mission Briefing and Act screens are a little lame. I can't really say much about what makes the game good, because then I'll ruin it for any who have not played it. Expand

Not the game I expected it to be. The cutscenes are long and annoying, and the gameplay is a bit outdated. It follows the MGS standard, but doesn't really improve on it, and the series did need to improve on it's gameplay a bit to keep up with the times. It's a good game, but not great.

The story relies on a convoluted plat and paper thin characters with extrenous backstories, rather then relying on the sotry it self. Game looks great but there's nothing there that hasn't been done before.

Amazing game. The gameplay, the graphics, the story... everything oozes quality. My only gripe is the amount and length of cutscenes at the end. It could definitely used some better editing.

It's the small things that count, right? MGS4 definitely excells in this and all other areas. From the animations to the way Snake acts, everything is perfection.

This is simply the greatest game I have never played, and also the best MGS game IMO, fantastic gameplay with brand new elements such as the octacamo, breathtaking graphics, easily the best looking PS3 game, brilliant cinematic experiences, the cutscenes are nothing less then epic, and a the exellent addition of Metal Gear Online in the box, what more could you ask for? Absolutely the best game you can have for PS3. Now go get it if you don't already have it. About 60% is game play and rest is video and codec talk. No too long sessions but they might get way if you aren't interested in the story. MGS4 has story unlike no other. It's long, it's got lots of tight twists and it's well written. The extreme immersive nature of MGS4 brings me closer than ever to the intense story line. It was definitely worth the wait. I can't imagine a better ending to the most brilliantly ingenious video game series I have ever played.

The end off the series, and what an end it is. Think Metal Gear Solid 3, but not in the jungle. The Octocamo is superb, and everything that made the MGS series great is still here, including Kojima's fantastic sense of humour, and some exhilarating action sequences. And who can forget the plot? This game promises to be the best in the series yet, and I have no doubt that it will be. The end off the series, and what an end it is. Think Metal Gear Solid 3, but not in the jungle. I've already played it for hours today, and I've also been on Metal Gear Online, the online mode that comes FREE with the game. What can I say? It is fantastic! And it's free, 2 games in 1! Harry Gregson Williams returns to do the musical score, and it is as phenomenal as usual. No more needs to be said, this game is a must have, whether you're a fan of the series or not. Expand

Install times are annoying. Some cut scenes are way too long, and provide nothing to the MAIN plot. Controls could be a lot better.

Metal gear solid so far for me has greatly exceeded my expectations, and the reviews for it thus far on here have truly been piss poor the sheer quality of this game. Edge is obviously a sell-out magazine now after giving GTA4 100% despite the OBVIOUS Fps issues in the game, yet gave MGS 80, GTA learned from hindsight aswell. The graphics, voice-acting, story and game play completely immersed me in playing, one game that has actually been able to grab me and force me to play on and on, I can't tear myself away, Immersion is a rarity in games these days. MGS even has comedy in the game to boot, As usual Fruity Koj has added some things in the game that will make you jump up and go "Holy crap i get that". Best game I've played in years, probably the best purchase I've done in my life. Expand

Everything is wow...the gameplay is solid, the graphics are the best I've seen this gen, the cut-scenes are amazing, again the best cut-scenes EVER! The story is great although a little hard to follow at times. The 5.1 sound is amazing...if you've got a 5.1 Digital sound system crank it up you'll think you at the movies. This game is so awesome...I wanna go play it!

Haven't got it yet, but have seen a leaked sending video, it will blow your mind with the ending alone, such a greart way to warp things up, I expect the rest of the game to be very playable just like the previous ones, but it deserves a 10 just for that end sequence in my eyes. Kojima please make a sequel to Snatcher now!

Guns of the Patriots is almost intimidating in the consistent quality of its ideas, invention, and execution...Even by the series' stratospheric standards, MGS4 is a remarkable high point. [June 2008]

If you've ever loved any one of the Metal Gear games, or any moments from the series, there will come a moment when MGS 4 will send your spirits soaring. If you've loved them all, well then there'll be many, many more. It’s a masterpiece.
  3. Guns of the Patriots is a frustrating, fractured game that turns Metal Gear Solid's world upside down several times over, but never changes it.
