A brilliant game youi get for free with "MGS4." What's to complain about? [July 2008, p.64]
  2. Metal Gear Online is really a damn lot of fun for hours…at least after one has struggled through the rather annoying application process and finally managed to get online. Apart from some minor glitches in some of the context sensitive actions (the very same as in the main game) everything runs smoothly.

MGO is a strong, stable foundation for a very promising online shooter.

The slower pace might frustrate those used to COD4's adrenaline-soaked battles or Warhawk's arcadey clashes, but it's still a thrill. As a Metal Gear game it works beautifully, capturing the series' essence perfectly. [July 2008, p.108]
  5. Although it has some regrettable issues, the execution of Metal Gear gameplay in an online setting makes for an enjoyable experience that is, at the very least, worth sinking a few hours into.
  6. Metal Gear Online is offered with Guns of the Patriots, and, being free, most of its flaws can be overlooked. As a game by itself, it would show little argument facing other heavy hitters available on the platform. Eyed as a bonus, it offers enough fun to be worth some time.
  7. If, however, Konami plans to turn this into an ongoing spin-off with commercial potential then it needs serious work to either shape it into something outlandish that could only be done online with the Metal Gear series, or to better blend the Metal Gear elements into the established tropes of the multiplayer action genre.

Really lives up to the metal gear series, loads of serious fun to be had here and not just for the online enthusiast either. With the Really lives up to the metal gear series, loads of serious fun to be had here and not just for the online enthusiast either. With the addition of the expansion packs and the all new reward system to earn yourself some nice camo'd gear etc and possible more to come, it's a real worthwhile game to play, even if the sign up process is tedius.. This game had the best game-play mechanics, communication functionality, maps, game modes, and skilled players... I wouldn't trade my experience with this game for anything in the world. It was unfortunate when the servers were shut down, but I'll never forget the joy I had playing MGO. Expand

The game requires skill and tactics to win, not emptying AK47's across the map. MGO runs on the MGS4 engine, so it plays more or less the same. You can also play as all sorts of different characters, like Raiden, Vamp, and Liquid Ocelot. Though the servers a down now, there is a petition going so we can play this great game again. Expand

The game itself is probably the best video game I've ever had the pleasure of playing, but the online action is lacking. The drebin The game itself is probably the best video game I've ever had the pleasure of playing, but the online action is lacking. The drebin points system in online play is a little annoying. You should be able to keep points at the very least so that you could "unlock" other weapons such as in Call of Duty 4 online. It would also be nice to view player stats in the lobby. Friend invites should be made easier as well. Overall I give it a 7. Expand

I don't see why this is getting high ratings. First of all, it's incredibly slow paced. You move around like you're walking. I don't see why this is getting high ratings. First of all, it's incredibly slow paced. You move around like you're walking. It's hard to aim and the recoil on the guns is too high (making it even harder to aim). The user interface looks like a Nintendo game. The form you sign at the beginning is annoying (why do I need 2 usernames and passwords?). You can't change the look of your character after you've created it. You can't play as a female. The skills take FOREVER to level up and there are only 3 levels for each. When you die, there's no replay of how you died. It just shows what your killer is doing now. It takes like 5 full seconds to kill someone from body shots but a single bullet to kill someone with a head shot. I can go on and on, but this is the most important detail: The game is amazingly nonaddictive and unrewarding. I have literally played free flash games that kept my interest longer than this. Expand
