Mercenaries 2: World In Flames has a huge and beautiful open world, sadly not really filled with much stuff to do. The cinematics are over the top, sadly the story is pretty pointless. As you can see, this game has brilliant, but unpolished ideas. Thank god the action is super intense.

I really don't know how I feel about this game.. Originally I bought the game for $5 (just for the **** and giggles) and was semi disappointed.

Really, all I can say is the vehicles in this game are awesome. I had a blast riding around in the monster truck and plowing over my enemys. What makes it even better are the arcade style driving mechanics that offer a crazy taxi sort of feel.

The only reason this game got bad reviews was the shooting mechanics and boring missions (this is coming from someone who finished 1/3 of the game). Mercs 2 biggest selling point is destruction, so why cant we have more destruction missions? The game offers more hunt the targets or capture the base sort of gameplay which isn't all that bad and not all that good. Also the tedious shooting mechanics make it feel as if your bullets are flying around in the entire circle reticle.

Personally I didn't get a chance to try the co-op since the game keeps freezing upon launch - due to pandemic studios closure. This was a bit of a downer but for paying $5 it wasn't too much of a problem.

I still don't know if I plan on finishing the game..

What a disappointment, The first game was one of the most entertaining games I've ever played. This one is way to easy, has respawning enemies, adds unnecessary stuff (like collecting fuel), the graphics were actually better on PS2, all the same bugs from the first one remain and more are added! Avoid this one!

It's one-dimensional, but it doesn't pretend to be anything else. Is it for hardcore gamers? It must not be, because I enjoyed it and I'm a "play it through once and sell it" kind of guy. I don't dispute the criticisms some folks are leveling, but I didn't notice them myself.

It's a brainless run-and-gun. You get a mission, you go shoot guys and blow stuff up. That's exactly what I expected. It's kind of the antithesis of GTA IV, which IMHO suffered from being TOO lifelike. This is just "pop it in the machine and wreak havoc" kind of game, and sometimes that's a good thing.

I also noticed that even 5 years after release, it's still easy to find a partner online... at least it is at 6 a.m. when I've been playing it :-)

So, while your jaw won't drop at how innovative it is, it's still good, brainless fun.

Mercenaries 2 is a sandbox game from Pandemic Studios set in Venezuela. And it is, in a word, awesome. Sure, it''s not particularly deep or pretty and it is a little glitchy. But It is so satisfying to pump rocket after rocket into a building, and watch it explode in a cathartic furor of shrapnel and explosives. Like I said, awesome.

Oh yes, this game sucks. Mercs 1 was good. It was original, interesting and held my attention. However, Mercs 2 really does nothing to advance the story or the franchise. However, Mercs 2 really does nothing to advance the story or the franchise. This game should have been named Mercenaries 2: Franchise in Flames. The only good thing that came out of this was a catchy ad jingle. First, the vehicle physics suck. If I hit a stop sign in an AN Humvee, I flip the vehicle and the stop sign stays intact. So there goes the whole "everything is destructible in Mercs 2" thing that they were totting so highly. The AI is worse than it was in the first one. They basically just stand there and wait for you to kill them. However, this is nice, because it takes that long to be able to aim at them with the crappy and deceptive reticule. Deceptive? Oh yes, if I'm aiming in the direction of an enemy in a tree line, the reticule turns red. To me this says "you're aiming at your enemy, open fire." However, I find that he was no where near the place I was aiming and I just wasted ammo on a tree. To restate, you cannot blow up "everything" like they said you could. In fact there are quite a few things that you cannot blow up, or even harm. Pedestrians are one of those things. You are taxed for "collateral damage" but don't even get the satisfaction of killing them. Yet, the way that everyone seems to just get up and brush off being smoked in the forehead with an M-16, in this game, it is only natural that the civilians are indestructible. Helicopters are clunky and slow in this one as well. In Mercs 1, the slow helis were the AN large troop ships, but the smaller ones could zip here and there and were a prized vehicle. In Mercs 2, they are all slow, clunky, hard to aim and seriously fragile...that is unless an enemy has one, then it's impossible to harm them. The weapons don't have the power that they did in the first game, the RPGs AA Launchers and Anti-Tank Launchers are damn near impossible to aim. The inclusion of the need for pilots and contracts that are basically "go fetch" missions are boring and repetitive. What is the use of making money? So, I can buy limited crap items from contacts? I'd rather the old system of buying my stuff out-right instead of having to go do some snore fest in order to get my hands on a weapon that isn't completely full of suck. Lets not even get started on the fact that the guns simply don't harm the enemy. I found this out after tagging an enemy at close range in his head and watching him re-aim and continue to fire, I positive that all the weapons are full of suck. This game SUCKS. It was poorly thought out and way over-hyped. Expand

Extremely underrated! I have played with the latest version and the dlc and not experienced any bugs. Seems to be even more enjoyable than the first game. I like how the story has a more cinematic feel, but still gives you free will. I loved the first game and I love the sequel even more. A great buy at gamestop for around $30 after discounts and tax.

For every time I cursed the stupid AI, I cheered at the demolition of another building. For every bug that got me stuck in some bushes, there was an attack chopper waiting to be jacked. If Mercenaries 2 had more polish, it would have been a great game. As is, it’s still worth playing – and enjoyable – but falls far short of its promise.
