The missions were one Mob cliche after another and became very boring. Just about every mission consisted of: get a phone call, meet somewhere to talk to someone, drive somewhere to kill someone, something goes wrong, get out of there. The areas for customizing your character were minimal to the point that they were useless. This title was the definition of a cookie-cutter mob action game. Absolute waste of $60. Expand

WARNING,THIS IS NOT A GOOD GAME!!! My main problem with this game, and it's a big one, is why do I the player have to do all of the mundain useless tasks such as clean toilets, shower, clean windows, get dressed from mission to mission, follow people at snail paces, race home to go to bed, etc. People will argue that it makes a more real experience but why do they montage all of the coolWARNING,THIS IS NOT A GOOD GAME!!! All of the pistol whips, killing, stealing, so on and so on, are all just pieced together in a short video in the middle and then your back to loading crates on a truck, or carying a box of guns to a car. WHY? I can appreciate the real factor but on the other hand I can kill 100 police officers and then just change my clothes and my wanted meter goes away. Completely unrealistic. The story is a very run of the mil ho hum mafia story but I would much rather watch the Godfather, Road to Perdition, or hell even Mafia the spoof than play this crap. The best aspect of the game is the playboy centerfolds and the timer of how long you look at them. That is hilarious but everything else is very easily missed. I was excited about this game but I would not recomend even a rental. Expand

This is the buggiest, glitchiest game I have played in YEARS! It's just not finished. I enjoyed the game, it's good but it's so ridden with issues that the whole game is ruined in my eyes. Then there's the sup par joke of a PS3 version we were given. No grass. No blood. Frame rate of forming rock. Screen tearing. Clothes that don't move. etc, etc, etc.... 7 out of 10 if it were finished. 3 out of 10 because 2K are useing us as testers

A good cinematic experience, a bad video-game. The story is sweet, but short (Took me 11 hours on hard, didn't rush). Unfortunately the atmosphere and short story is all Mafia II has going for it. With no replay value and longevity, it's just not worth a buy. You can enjoy everything this game has to offer within the span of a rental. But worth the $60? Not a chance.

Mafia was a revolutionary, beautiful and epic adventure in Lost Heaven, and is clearly one of the best games ever made for any platform. It had everything that makes a game something, that's more than a GAME. I've played through the main storyline so many times, that even today I know every mission in the game. It had everything that makes a game something, that's more than a GAME. I've played through the main storyline so many times, that even today I know every mission in the game. When Mafia II was announced I thought that 'Yes, we will have a game, that's better than GTA IV, a true mob story on the PC, Xbox 360 and Playstation 3'. I've completed Mafia II, and the only thing I can say: 'I don't want to ever see this game again'.

The game has no (alright I don't want to spoiler: only a very small) connection to the first game in terms of story. You are Vito Scaletta, a small time gangster, who has to fight in WWII. The first Chapter of the game is TOTALLY pointless, I don't know why is it even playable, when you will see parts of the game that you want to play, and they're just videos. It's the proof of **** and lazy game design, that's true for the whole game.
The game's artificial intelligence is also a dumb **** The cops are stupid like hell. If you go above 40 mph, and you slow down just before them they won't care, you run on red lights they don't care. Even if you steal a car, they won't care in a specific situation: if they see you that you break the glass of the car, sit in and start messing with the startup they will just go away. So to steal a car without being arrested, just simply wait for the cop to come by you, then press Q, and they will go away without ****ing with you. But if they see, that you start the engine (!!) they will want to arrest you. Alright I have one question: is this reality? They wanted to make the game so real, they even programmed, that your gas can run out from the car, and they made this enormous bug with the artificial intelligence?? If in real life you try to steal a car, and you smash it's ****ing window the cops will simply say 'Alright, he hasn't start the engine yet, just go on'. Shame.
Your companions artificial intelligence is also a pile of dog **** In the end of the game they won't even open the door for themselves, they will just walk into the door, and walk in place until you open the door for them. I don't even mention that they know 'We're invincible, just go and shoot. Oh **** it's about 645 bullets in my head, who cares, we can't die'.

So in other words the AI is broken. So as the story and nearly the whole game. The story is uninspired, and very bad. First of all it's short, and lacks any good moments, except for Chapter 14. It full of clichés, for example you sell cigarettes, and beat up your sister's off-****ing husband. Even the cutscenes and dialogues are mediocre because of the lame animation. And the game is easy like hell, because of the bad AI. I played it on hard, and on first (and surely last) playthrough it took me about 10 hours to get through the game, without dying more than 10 times. Shame.

The good points in this game are only the graphics, the cars and shooting despite of easy is fun. The graphics look absolutely fantastic, and it's optimized very well. I played it on my Acer 7745G (Core i7 720QM, 4 GB DDR3 RAM, ATi Mobility Radeon 5850), and I was able to play it smoothly with everything turned to maximum, only APEX PhysX turned OFF. But even if I turn it to HIGH it's quite playable. So it looks great and optimized very well. Driving the cars is also great and you can switch whether you want to play it on normal or simulation, which makes driving a lot harder. The shooting is... just shooting from covers, with guns. But that's always fun.

To sum up my review, Mafia II is a bad and disappointing game. It's playable, and maybe deserves one playthrough because it's Mafia, but be prepared that it's buggy and the biggest disappointment I've ever played. Mafia deserves a sequel, that's worthy of it's name. And this is not. This is an offer, you can and maybe you want to refuse.

Way way inferior to GTA4. It's a rip off! Anyone is better set with 5 good MOB movies than this stuffed in a game story. I can assure anyone that 8 hours of Bad Company 2 or GTA4 won't give me a headaches as this crap did. Expand

After a highly anticipated game called "Mafia II" reached the shelves in august of 2010, a game in which I had a considerable amount of hope for since its announcement a couple years previously, I couldn't help the urge to jump onto the favorable bandwagon and indulge in a highly engaging crime world that would take the gaming world by storm. of course, to say this now after I have goneAfter a highly anticipated game called "Mafia II" reached the shelves in august of 2010, a game in which I had a considerable amount of hope for since its announcement a couple years previously, I couldn't help the urge to jump onto the favorable bandwagon and indulge in a highly engaging crime world that would take the gaming world by storm. of course, to say this now after I have gone through with the gameplay, would be to say that Michael Jackson isn't the King of Pop. Yes, unfortunately Mafia II failed to live up to the hype that it so graciously touted before it's release, and I have to say, if there was one game that I couldn't finish because it bored me to death, it is one such as this. No, this wasn't trying to be Grant Theft Auto IV, although it probably would have been better off in doing so anyway. The story, contrary to popular belief, is dull and uninspired. The city is extremely lifeless and more or less a big tease, and Vito is a repetitive character garnering repetitive behavior throughout the story. I couldn't even finish it because it contained nothing that was worth an eye popping moment for me. Still, if you can get past all this, and it would take quite a lot to do that, then you have yourself a decent game that you will find interesting from the moment it's popped into your harddrive. The environments are stunning, and the city looks lively, but when it comes down to it all, there is simply nothing to do. I'm not the sort of person who enjoys side missions, and I really enjoy the setting, but at least have some sort of value in the open world! Expand

Disappointing really. I tried not to compare it with GTA but, if you want to play a game like Mafia, but good, play GTA. This game isn't even worth buying.

Deja mucho que desear, la misiones son repetitivas. La conducción mala, la ciudad parece muerta. El dinero no sirve para nada. La Thompson está rota. No hace falta munición, deja mucho que desear el juego.

Mafia 2 is disappointing if you like me, enjoyed the first one.
The original Mafia was a cinematic, emotional, expressive and great gaming experience, visuals were outstanding for its time, the original city was beautiful and massive. The story and it's characters were the best part, very mature and well developed.

I can't say the same about Mafia 2, protagonist is generic and inexpressive if you compare to Tommy Angelo (Mafia: City of Lost Heaven protagonist), the relationship between characters in Mafia 2 is shallow to a point that most of personal situations doesn't make much sense. Story is clichê and uninspired.
The city in Mafia 2 is pretty but underdeveloped in a gameplay aspect, don't expect to find much fun or interesting side missions. The shooting and action are too much scripted and offers no replay value.
Mafia 2 can be a fun game at times, but it is hard to compare with its incredible predecessor "Mafia: The City of Lost Heaven"

  1. Mafia II's exciting action and uncompromising mob story make for an impressive and violent adventure.
  2. Mafia II is an epic adventure with a story that rivals some of the best mobster movies. Players are brought in to Vito Scaletta's rise in the family ranks through an engaging narrative, intense action sequences, and a well-crafted vintage city setting.
  3. I'm a sucker for a good mob story, but Mafia II's is merely decent.
