A surprisingly well made Lego iteration of LOTR Trilogy. Perfectly condensed moments from the movie translated seamlessly into video game form that doesn't lose much of it's charm originating from the movies. I think this was the first Lego game that had spoken dialogue (audio taken from the films) and also the first open world Lego game and both come off well. However game design is oftenA surprisingly well made Lego iteration of LOTR Trilogy. Perfectly condensed moments from the movie translated seamlessly into video game form that doesn't lose much of it's charm originating from the movies. I think this was the first Lego game that had spoken dialogue (audio taken from the films) and also the first open world Lego game and both come off well. However game design is often put into question when there are far too many in-game moments that are only needed the first time they're introduced (eg. making mithril items). Game is poorly optimised as playing the game will make your PS3 sound like a jet engine all the while you experience massive screen tearing. I also don't understand why is changing characters is so awkward and clunky and is incapable of changing characters using the R1 and L1 buttons during the open world segments but during main missions that problem doesn't seem to be present.

Overall fun game, the side quests were quite fun to do and has an array of extra items (eg. Horn of Gondor or Mithril Disco Phial) that are fun to mess around with especially when playing with friends and will result in some great laughs. Was also very surprised to see Resident Evil and Metal Gear references!

In addition to the excellent musical score from Jackson’s trilogy playing while you smash stone as Gimli or conjure blocks as Gandalf, LEGO LOTR is the first of the LEGO games to use the voices and acting from the films.

LEGO Lord of the Rings is easily one of my favorite LEGO games. I’m not sure if it’s just the source material or the fact that the game is actually really fun and evolves the LEGO franchise in significant ways, but this is definitely worth playing for any fan of the previous LEGO games or Lord of the Rings films.

Though the formula hasn't exactly been built from the green ground piece up, Telltale has gone above and beyond our expectations. Take, for example, the fact that Middle-earth is one gigantic, seamless hub world that can be be trodden across (or fast traveled through) from one end to the other. [January 2013, p64]
