This is absolutely fantastic and a must have for all Kingdom Hearts fan. I'm personally a HUGE fan of the series and Kingdom Hearts II and Birth by Sleep also happen to be my favourite games out of the series. The HD graphics for these games look absolutely stunning, and on top of that, I'm personally really excited to play through the Final Mixes of these great games.

    - Birth By Sleep was originally a PSP only port. Now available to the people who may have missed that.
    - Returning veterans will feel right at home.
    - HD graphics gives the game a new "shine"
    - A lot more optional content than 1.5 hd. (secret bosses, areas, items)
    - Although the story's are shorter in BBS, there are 3 protagonist. So you can chose from 3 characters, and watch as their paths cross in a 'short but sweet' story.
    - Added in Trophies (although most games nowadays has them, it gives veterans a incentive to try to complete certain task)

    Cons:
    - Beginning of KHII can be slow, and a turn off for new players.
    - Birth By Sleep doesn't have multiplayer like it did on PSP
    - The Disney worlds, and characters can be unappealing to some people.
    - The camera can be a pain sometimes (from my experience)

In general the pros in 2.5 outweigh the cons by a huge margin. No game is perfect, but 2 fantastic games with more content than their originals for a decent price of 40$ is a steal. So why are you reading this review? There are worlds out there just waiting to be explored!

Since there is so much more in the Final Mix releases, they have nearly consumed me!
Its also brilliant that Birth By Sleep is included in this as I'm pretty certain majority of us never played it on PSP. This too, was a perfect addition for a handheld filler. I love the story and how the characters/stories intertwine with each other. The fact that you play 3 story modes (1 for each character) is fantastic. The combat isn't like KH2, but more so KH1's pace including a command system to mix things up and steer away from X button mashing.
I am so happy with this. Bring on KH3!

A great refresher before KH 3 arrives. KH 2.5 brings back what we love and a little more, the last ps3 game any new gen owner should have to buy, It brings the 2 best games of the KH franchise together and gives people who don't own the portable consoles a chance to play Birth by sleep. Definitely worth the $40.

Not to many jaggies on the big screen!
    Reconfigured controls

No change to any game mechanics.

    Cons:
    loading.
    lets me explain....
This is a pretty big issue. People who will speed run will enough about an hour longer times just because of the load times. Drive forms also have very long load times and WILL cause bosses and mobs to recover from the burst before you can start the combos. However, the trick to get around this is simply to just pause the game for about 3 seconds when you start the drive.
A person con to me is the HD didnt seem as HD to me as i thought it would have. The textures are still very flat. I figured square did not want to poor money into a complete remastering of the game, but kingdom hearts deserves it right?

9.5/10 if it would allow halfs.

KH 2 FM is hands down the most unique game i have ever played.

Gameplay - Awesome new abilities new bosses and more. Absent Silhouettes appear in various worlds in KH2 which allow you to face off against The OrganizationXIII Members from Chain of Memories. New Arena Battles appear in BBS along with an added secret boss for Aqua after beating the game. In BBS you also get new abilities not present in the original game. New Keyblades and Items also appear in both BBS & KH2Fm + New Enemies. Such as a Black Mushroom that appears in Radiant Garden.

Story - Do I even need to tell you? The story is great especially the prequel of BBS the story for both games is exceptional. You get new cutscenes for both games and cutscenes for Re-Coded. However Re-Coded doesn't have any gameplay.

Soundtrack - The soundtrack was amazing the way it was in my opinion I don't think it needed remastering. However some people might like it some songs are great and some just don't need remastering in my opinion. But if you disagree and think its a small matter that's you. Another small thing I found annoying was the voices of the OrganizationXIII Members you fight in the Absent Silhouettes are re-used from COM and the Japanese Version of KH2FM but its a minor thing that probably won't annoy you that much there still fun to fight regardless.

Graphics - This isn't even a category for this game you already know they look good.

Replay Value - Very High and the trophies for this game should be fun for you to earn. Replaying the game in Critical Mode is also another fun thing you'll be dying over and over again but its not impossible to beat. I beat Critical Mode for Kingdom Hearts BBS KH2FM Critical Mode is a bit harder than BBS's.

Overall - Go buy this game its worth $40 especially if your a KH Fan but don't buy them all because I still need to buy one and I intend to get the Limited Edition Big Box Version. If only money grew on trees.

Fans will be happy to learn that Kingdom Hearts 2 remix includes the Roxes fight, something that should have been added into the original release, along with several new optional boss fights that are both challenging and welcomed. Except maybe the Lingering Will fight. That will brake you in every way possible and isn't for the experienced player. If you're like me, when you finally beat him, you will hear yourself saying, "never again." This remake alone is worth the price of the collection. But than Birth By Sleep reminds you why innovation can be a good thing.

Birth By Sleep has one of the most interesting idea's I've ever seen in a game. That idea being that you can combined two different magics and attacks, or a combination of the two, to create something new. And while Birth By Sleep isn't the first game to use this idea, it is by far a welcomed addition to the series. It is also something I hope to see return in any latter Kingdom Hearts game. The combat is smooth and the fact that you can see the story unfold from three different perspectives, with three different play styles and level designs was also a most welcomed addition to the series. I don't really know what was added to the remake, as I've only played a sort amount of the PSP version. I do know that the multiplayer was removed, and I can't tell if that's a good thing or not. However, it doesn't matter. Birth By Sleep took a chance and it payed off in it's favor.

Sometimes a game will come along and become the best of it's receptive genera. Kingdom Hearts 2 is one of those games. And the remake is everything that Kingdom Hearts 2 is and more. It offers more story, more action and more adventure than in any previous entry. And Birth By Sleep is one of the best ports I have ever played. I will admit that there is a frame rate issue in both those games, but that's more of the PlayStation's 3 fault than anything else. If you own a PlayStation 3 and are looking for something to add to your collection, look no further than Kingdom Hearts 2 HD Remix. It's got everything fans want, and it has everything the series needs. 10/10

BBs how ever, is just ok even though you get a whole new story segment it feels like its not worth the effort because you either have to beat the game on critical or proud or beat it 100% on easy or standard which is quite annoying and tiresome. However this is probably my fault since I did a 100% run on the psp two months before it came out. You also get three new arena battles a slew of new commands and a better camera. Even though its a psp port it feels great on a home console. Re codded "the movie" is much better than playing the game and although not essential its still tiresome to watch.

The two best games in the franchise with some minor other content. I reviewed both games already. So here is the result.

    Kingdom Hearts 2
Be warned: Parts of the story left you puzzled if you did not play 358/2 Days and Chain of Memories. The game does a poor job in explaining things in this regard (Not a problem for the rest of the story). In our times it is no problem to look things up on the internet. I must warn you again if you want to play the games instead: 358/2 was on the Nintendo DS only (There is a feature in Kingdom Hearts 1.5 Remix which is basically a movie) and Chain of Memory has a terrible battle system that even drove of hard core fans (Was a mayor complaint by many / I tried the game multiple times but could not adapt to it properly). Back to Kingdom Hearts 2. They improved nearly everything. The graphics are better and the music is fantastic. I want to praise Hikaru Utada for the opening theme song. It was so good that I restarted the game immediately to listen to it again. The battle system is now top notch and they added the drive system which gave you additional powers for a limited time. Tip: It doesn't look like a big improvement first but you get impressive results when you level it up, even new abilities which can be used in the normal form. The game has the best variety of worlds in the franchise (Tied with Kingdom Hearts 3),that are now bigger with more room for exploration. They took also great effort for the boss battles. There are many memorable battles that get you to your limits on higher difficulties (You can always grind levels to overpower the bosses). The addition of the Nobody's and the Organization was also a strength of the game. I like the variety of the characters and their individual motivations. You have also more Final Fantasy characters with many good (badass) scenes. Our main characters are always as lovable and driven as before. For story purposes I will say the game delivers a good performance. With the most awesome parts in the Hollow Bastion world where you get highlight after highlight (Most awesome part in the whole franchise). The other worlds are also pretty good and have story lines that get you attached very well. Overall this was my favorite game in the franchise, tied with Birth by Sleep.

    Birth by Sleep:
It was amazing what they did on the PSP. The graphics and the soundtrack were impressive. The characters and stories are a welcome addition to the franchise. We have Terra, Ventus and Aqua. Each one has an individual story arc which are connected and a final arc where all three met. You chose in which order you play the adventures. Recommendation was Terra, Ventus and Aqua (Would stay with it because of spoilers because some parts are connected). Terra is the strongest and most durable but also a bit slower. Ventus is the fastest but not as strong / durable as Terra or Aqua. Aqua is in the middle and has the best (magic) abilities. They changed the battle style and gave us the Command Deck. You chose / equip abilities you then can use in battles (Start with 3 and can be increased up to 8). You get new abilities during your adventure and can create new ones by fusion. I like this a lot. You can always experiment with new abilities or are exited about new ones. There are of cause special abilities and some only a single character can use (or 2 of 3). Then we have the Command Style. It is basically the foundation were your deck is placed. When the style gauge is filled you get increased stats and abilities for its duration including strong finishers. Again there are special ones and unique ones for each character. Same goes for Shot-locks. You enter a first person mode and aim for enemies until the gauge is empty. Now you fire energy projectiles at them. The battle system is quite interesting and rewarding. For the world and stories: We get new worlds and interlinked arcs which I cant spoil. There are many good and creative ideas in this game. The friendship between the characters is truly remarkable and a virtue of the story. The story itself is a tale of self discovery, friendship, exploration and shows some of the events that became important for the later games (It is the first game in the timeline approx 10 years before Kingdom Hearts 1). Of cause there are a lot of cameos. It does a very good job in foreshadowing some events. Then there are the mini games. Instead of the Colosseum Arena which was not finished back then you get the Mirage Arena with a lot of challenges. You have the excellent Command board game. It was so good that I skipped to it a lot of times. There is a racing game were you see the differences in the characters (Terra is clunky). There is the Ice-creme beat (I hate that game) and the Fruitball Beach-volleyball game which is enjoyable funny. Overall this was surprisingly good and is considered one of the best games on the PSP and in the Kingdom Hearts franchise.

The music is so much crisper and smoother now that it has been redone by a live orchestra, and the songs all seem unique but keep the same 'Kingdom Hearts' quality. The game also runs and reacts quite a lot faster and smoother on the PS3; especially when the system is kept at a cool temperature.

Although most fans believe that the graphics were improved dramatically, to me it seems they just switched from using a Video cable to using a HDMI cable (I used a Video cable and compared the graphics to the PS2 version and they look almost identical graphics wise). The developers didn't seem to bother with the smoothing of shapes or the improving of the quality of characters faces during lesser cut-scenes. But this does not limit the game in anyway because it is just an extra luxury. But the true problem which frustrates me is the inaccessibility of online multiplayer in Kingdom Hearts: Birth By Sleep, because probably me and 90% of fans have never experienced PvP, Co-Op, Command Board, or even Rumble Racing with another real person. This would have been a great inclusion for the game because it would have increased sale profits massively and finally allowed players to battle it out to determine whose the best Kingdom Hearts player.

Overall I believe Kingdom Hearts HD 2.5 REmix deserves an 8/10, deducting one point for each of the two problems.

It has some flaws though, it looked like it was a rushed port due to the bugs, glitches, and freezes. The annoying part is just the loading times and the freezing part. Other than that it's pretty fun! Both of them has a unique and well-done story as well as great gameplay.

An incredible step up in game-play from the first game, and the story becomes much more complex in a rather satisfying way, at least to me. Especially if you understand the story pieces from other games in the series, it's a game that has infinite replay-ability just for the fun of it.

Kingdom Hearts II Final Mix: 8/10
Sora is back in an even bigger adventure. This time Sora has more spells and more Techniques at his disposal to help combat against the heartless and the devious organization Xiii. The story is more complex this time around as Sora tries to thwart the plans of the organization when they try to capture the titular Kingdom hearts for there supposed purpose of giving themselves their own hearts. The boss battles this time around are even bigger and grander and the stakes are raised to a greater level. The worlds themselves are also more varied with added atmosphere put into them than there predecessors such as Port Royal , Steam BOat River, and Tron's world. The combat is also exemplified to have more depth and more weight. Some are concerned the quick reflex mechanic which is pressing the triangle button would make the game too-easy. I can assure you that it doesn't because it only pops up rarely after certain amount of damage have been dealt with. The villain this time is also more fleshed out than Ansem who was thrown in for the sake of having a final battle. All of these seem like things that should make the game better than the original but unfortunately it suffers from two major problems. The first is that the pacing is very off for the narrative since it moves at a snail's pace. The prologue sequence with Roxas's summer vacation for example lasts for about four to five hours. There were also times when the game felt like it ended but it decided to keep going tin order to pad out the run-time. The final battle against Xemnas in particular can take hours to beat (player competency not withstanding). There is also a massive difficulty spike with the boss battle against Roxas which is devastating to players who are left unprepared. You will die a lot in this fight. Aside from those issues, it is till a worthy follow up to Kingdom Hearts that will keep you entertained for a long-time.

Kingdom Hearts Birth By Sleep Final Mix: 9/10
This game is a prequel to the original Kingdom Hearts which revolve around three protagonists: the naive but innocent Ventus, the stern but loving Aqua, and the humble but troubled Terra. The story follows the tragic tale of these three Keyblade Wielders as they suffer a fate worse than death by the hands of the devious Xehanort (played masterfully well by Leonard Nimoy). The development was done by the same team behind "Chain of Memories" but the card based combat has been vastly improved. Instead of relying on sheer luck and numbers, this time your success will be based purely on your skill. The individual tales assist the overall narrative as opposed to detracting from it like in previous entries of the series. Spells and combos are now more fun to use and the mini games such as the monopoly- like board will keep you entertained. There are a few problems that keep this game from acquiring a perfect score from me though. Voice acting is a mixed bag. The Disney character give well-done performers while the original characters have varying quality. For example, the voice actress for Aqua gave a really flat performance while the actors for Ventus and Terra gave the required pathos to give the story the weight it needed to invest the player in the narrative. Once again there is a difficulty spike for the final battle ( is anyone noticing a pattern here). On top of that in order to unlock the true ending you have to beat the game on the hardest difficulty level. This practice is unnecessary in today's age because people could look up the real ending on YouTube whenever they beat the game on any difficulty of their choosing. Despite those issues I still consider this to be either close to the same quality of the original Kingdom Hearts or even better than the original.

Kingdom Hearts Re Coded Cutscne Movie: 3/10
Unfortunately the weakest link of this collection which knocks it back from getting a high score is the lackluster story line for Re:coded. Like "358/2 Days" the game-play was removed in favor of a movie with the in-game cutscenes. This is the worst entry of the series to date because in the grand scheme of things it added nothing to the over all narrative. It treaded ground that didn't need to be retreaded and it built up to information that we already knew since the first Kingdom Hearts. The only piece of information wort knowing was the contact about Terra, Ventus, and Aqua. Aside from that you can easily skip the story line of this game and you wouldn't miss anything.

Final thoughts: This is agreat package with two great games with some minor hickups. The combat is very satisfying to use despite the fact that is is locked at 30 fps and it will keep you entertained for a very long time.

The animations, combat, and likeness of Disney characters is spot on.
    It has its humorous moments.
Packed with content, Final Mix offers new abilities, secret bosses, challenges and more.
Birth by Sleep feels as if it is a new game and it plays better than it ever had on the PSP, thanks to new controls.
The backstory can be complicated for some, but if you understand it, it's one of the best stories to be told.

If you're the kind of person who hates Disney or an amazing cartoon art style, dislikes a big package of amazing games which is cheaper in price than most games, don't buy this.
But if you're a fan of Disney, or Square Enix, pick this series up. Like... right now. Go.

Overall a enjoyable game. For the trophy hunters; a platinum for this game is quite easy to achieve.

Kingdom Hearts Birth by Sleep 4/10 - Birth By Sleep is a prequel to the original game. and by prequel we are talking biblical age. The game introduces new characters and the story revolves around the beginning of everything. There is no Disney characters in this one and the game forces you to replay the game multiple times to see each characters involvement in the story. The story itself isn't very gripping and the game is over relatively quickly. The battle system yet again is similar and doesn't really explore anything new. This title was a big let down for the Kingdom Hearts games you are used to. For the trophy hunters; getting a platinum is is no real accomplishment. However is rather annoying as you need to replay the game a number of times.

I've played (and still own) the original Kingdom Hearts 2 FM, and I know that it shouldn't take 5 seconds to go into a drive form, or I know I should be able to spam the reaction command on the final boss. Really, I feel like the only reason why this game is so much buggier than the original's is the fact that the game isn't installed to your HDD, instead it's being played off of the blu-ray, which blu-rays have notoriously bad load times compared to DVDs. It takes so much more time to load into another level and "anything" in this game, it's shockingly bad. And somehow, they managed to make the load times worse than the Japanese release of this game (2.5), which is an amazing feat in itself.

In other words, I love this game, but I hate this port, it's awful, just because of crap load times.

*DISCLAIMER: As I mentioned in my review of the "HD 1.5 ReMIX," this review will not be an overly-critical assessment of the individual games in the collection, but rather a basic assessment of the collection as a whole.*
When the "Kingdom Hearts HD 1.5 ReMIX" released in 2013, fans fell in love, but almost immediately wanted one thing: an "HD 2.5 ReMIX." And it only seemed logical: after all, "Kingdom Hearts III" had just been announced, and fans finally got the "Final Mix" version of the first entry in the series with the "HD 1.5 ReMIX," so it only seemed right for Square Enix to not only bring over the "Final Mix" version of the second game, but also include the "Final Mix" version of "Birth by Sleep," the popular prequel to the series. So Square Enix did that, and boy howdy, are we glad they did.
"Kingdom Hearts HD 2.5 ReMIX" succeeds on the strength that it includes the best versions of two of the franchise's best games: "Kingdom Hearts 2" and "Kingdom Hearts: Birth by Sleep." These are two of the series's most popular entries, and to finally be able to experience the "Final Mix" versions is a dream-come-true. What's more, the games still hold up: visually, they are still splendid, the soundtracks are timeless, and both games feature very refined and rock-solid combat. Where the "HD 1.5 ReMIX" only had one "new" version of a game, this one has two great, refined versions of great games, and throwing in the "Re:Coded" film is certainly a nice touch.
That said, I do think the inclusion of "Re:Coded," while necessary to complete the story and have all the games included, is controversial and was unfortunately bound to please no one: for starters, as a game, it's seen as the "black sheep" of the series, being a merely-updated version of a phone game that even seems content to retread (and often complicate) plot elements from other games, but even so, much like "358/2 Days" in the last collection, some fans were upset that the game was stiffed to just being a cinematic retelling, instead of being included as it's own playable game. It's polarizing whether it should've been included or not, but the unfortunate truth is that it would've pleased no one.
Even so, considering that the package includes two long-awaited versions of two of the series's most popular games, it's more than a worthwhile investment. Naturally, make sure you've also got the "HD 1.5 ReMIX" along with this one, but still, you should make it a point to pick this one up. You won't be disappointed by what these games have to offer.
Final rating: 9 out of 10 "Awesome"

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. 3 Kindom Hearts games in 1 (in theory), must own for a fan. Third game is only cutscenes, but if you want to know the whole story, it is good extra. But considering that there is one game that is not in this set, or 1,5 set, whole story has hole in it. I don't understand why, but, lets move on.

    KINGDOM HEARTS II

Kingdom Hearts II is game that combines Disney and Final Fantasy with few own ideas. Game is sequel to original Kingdom Hearts. Several things have happen after first game and because of that, many things might be pretty confusing, since Kingdom Hearts: Chain of Memories happens before Kingdom Hearts 2.

Kingdom Hearts II is action oriented fantasy game where player is again, Sora, Keyblade master who travels with wizard Donald Duck and knight Goofy. Along the way they meet several familiar Disney and Final Fantasy characters, like Squall Leonhart, Cloud Strife, Jack Skellington, Jack Sparrow... list is pretty long. Party contains 1-3 characters that can be changes in different worlds.
During the game, Sora learns huge amount of different skills that make him very powerful warrior. Some skills make his swordwielding better and some makes his magic abilities stronger.

Just like first game, also this time Sora faces many classic Disney villains and interrupts familiar Disney stories. Few worlds are familiar from previous games and some are new. KH2 contains so much to do and there is few new optional bosses to face.
Familiar organization XIII is there with the other members that can be fought. There is also extra difficult versions of them and then, there is Lingering Will, maybe the most difficult opponent in the whole franchise.

Kingdom Hearts II was already a great game and one the best games PS2 had, this Final Mix, is even better. Best Kingdom Hearts game.

    KINGDOM HEARTS: BIRTH BY SLEEP

Idea is same than before, but all this, happens before first Kingdom Hearts. There is familiar characters, stories and ideas, but core gameplay is very different, but it works and gives much to do and much freedom to do it.

Story follows three characters, Terra, Aqua and Ventus. Each of them visit same worlds, but in different order and in different places. All characters are unable to enter certain areas and some meet different characters and make different relationships.
This is the one thing that makes this game my second favorite Kingdom Hearts game. There is so many ways how you can experience the story. Do you play one path whole first or should you play each little by little. Main story is well written and ending, is more than good.

Gamestyle is different than before. You build decks of skills and when you use skill, it goes on cooldown. You can skip skills and use different skills first. By combining skills, you can create stronger skills and eventually, you might be able to creature really powerful skills, that take several deck slots, but are very powerful.
This style of game is very addictive and even though it takes a while to learn, it is all worth it, since there so much to do. Keep in mind, there is three characters and they learn different skills.
Terra is warrior with strong keyblade and his style is based on brutal combos with strong attacks. What he lacks in speed, he takes back in strength.
Aqua is magician. She is more spell oriented and is not really melee fighter like the others. Her game style is different and still fun.
Ventus is fast character with combos that link together and create fast phased action, with a hint of magic in it.

What I do not really like in this game, is the way how villains are presented in story. It feels that all best villains are faced very soon and in same story arc, that is something that feels out of place.

This version is also Final Mix, so there is extra and if you want to do all, it will take time, a lot of it. But it is fun and addictive.

    + Spiderweb of three stories

    - KH 2FM did the great job.the japan exclusive is welcome to the newcomers and also the Dubbe'd cutscene that doesn't exist on original KH2FM is just awesome.

    - KHBBS on the other hand was superb!they even remodel every keyblade's/3d model in the game to match the KH2's power.but got to admit kinda dissapointed aswell.they could've add the multi player of Mirage arena, thats the good advantage of PS3's PSN compare to WLAN's PSP and also the buffering is abysmal.0

    - KH:ReCODED on the other hand is just an addition to match the previous KH1.5.glad that they atleast add the actual fight than 358/2 days ripped cutscene.i can accept it if it was an actual game rather than cutscene.

its a must buy for a fan of Action RPG game.and also atleast an Anime lover.yes i consider sora as anime character...so what.

Even better than the first. This collection includes Birth by Sleep which is far better then 'Chain of Memories' included in the first remix.

i really enjoyed in this HD only Birth By Sleep and it was amazing to see the game to reach this great quality from a PSP game to PS3 game.

Those who want to relive PS2 days might pick this up, but the rest will probably be put off by these oldies. [02/2015, p.53]
