I'm not a fanboy for any systems, i like them all in there own unique ways and each game shines in it own right, but i'd have to say the set up of killzone multiplayer and the graphics are what makes this game shine a little bit bighter than the rest. Yes Killzone 2 is hard, but its not any harder than any other game on max difficulty. Jeesh a company reinvents the typical A.I. to more than just running out in the open and dying to an A.I. that dodges grenandes, flanks your position and isnt afraid to rush. Killzone 2 draws a line between casual gamers and hardcore gamers, you beat this game on expert, every shooter after it will be a cake walk. This game is a masterpiece and it sets the bar for shooters in the years to come, and like Vinny B said, if you can't figure out the controls or don't like the aiming, stick to COD4, Killzone 2 is out of your league. I bought a PS3 solely for Killzone 2, as a kind of methodone drug to tide me over till Modern Warfare 2 comes out. Ruddy hell, is it overhyped. The multiplayer feels so dated. Not only is it slow, but aiming is nigh on impossible in this game. It's just spray and pray, all the way. COD4 feels like a precision art next to this. The much-vaunted graphics aren't all that either. I bought a PS3 solely for Killzone 2, as a kind of methodone drug to tide me over till Modern Warfare 2 comes out. Ruddy hell, is it overhyped. This game is amazing. Incredible visuals and compelling gameplay.

And for all the haters that say the control system sucks. I have to agree that the default setting is crap (L3 to look down sights?) but if you switch to the alternate 2 controls ( pretty much the COD controls we all want) then you may find you have a brilliant game in your possesion. Game on!

Some people have moaned that the aiming is bad and it could have been better in places but this is mainly from jealous xbox owners who are gutted that it can never be made on there systems. I am disappointed. For me Killzone 2 did not live up to the hype. It is not a bad game, but the single player campaign wasn't that impressive. This game is the best looking FPS ive ever played or even seen. The only thing that doesn't make this title a bonified Halo killer is the lack of two player head to head. Come one, zero coop? For those who said the aiming was bad, no. It's just you suck at aiming. You may want to go into optionas and adjust your control settings...i cant wait for killzone 3.

Where people are whining and complaining about the done and done over concept of 'Point shoot, survive, rinse and repeat', it's the essential combination of any successful First Person Shooter (FPS) on the market. Every Call of Duty game with the exception of 4, along with every Medal of Honor game ever created, follows the same storyline; You are not a Nazi, it's your job to go kill Nazi's, go go go! There's never any variation; there's no way to really change what has already happened and call your game a "WW2 Sim". Now, what's wrong exactly with Killzone 2's storyline in similarity? Isn't this story EXACTLY the same thing? Country (in this case, another planet; Helghan) invades another country (also in this canse, another planet; Vekta), tries to take over because they were agitated / annoyed / pushed too the limit / feeling oppressed / find themselves inheritantly superior / the people they're invading are the 'real oppressors'. Invaded country holds off as long as possible before finally pushing invaders away. Invaded now become the invaders. New invaders do what they went to do, but get stomped in the process. Ladies and gents; this is a war game. If you don't like war, this isn't for you. This game is what all war games dream to be, just in year 4010. The gameplay is extremely immersive, the level design in singleplayer and multiplayer is not only intense, but never boring, and the animation / graphic / sound performance is unparalleled. Where in the Halo franchise, I felt like i was playing something akin to a cartoon with guns, with this I feel like I'm in the middle of a war. And I freaking love it. It's a top notch game with better multiplayer than I've ever been in. It's not gimped to the point of being an entirely new game - everything is exactly the same, except for the removal of cover-taking, which is a bonus to forwarding gameplay. Love this game, will likely play it for as long as the servers are up. Which I predict will be up until Killzone 3 is released. Expand

This game looks nice, visual quality is fantastic. But we've seen this gameplay a thousand times and it just doesn't work on a console. First person shooters should be played on PC. If you own a 120hz set, grab a bucket. Now, the game has 1 big flaw. The controls are clunky and if you're used to play COD4, you will feel like you're playing underwater playing this game. You kind of get used to it during campaign. I tried the multiplayer and it was OK. But the control issue makes you slow at reacting and you just can't move or dispatch enemies as fast as Modern Warfare has accustomed us to. Because of these issues and with the graphics alone as an upside, I just don't see myself popping this game inside my PS3 for a multiplayer session instead of playing COD4, let alone paying 50-60 bucks to keep it after beating my rental copy. If you're a PS3 owner you owe it to yourself to play this game and see what your black shiny beast is capable of doing when the programmers know what they're doing and are competent enough to harness a big chuck of the untapped PS3 power. Now, graphics wise, this game has spoiled me by setting the bar so high that I won't settle for anything inferior from now on. From here on out, every time a new PS3 game is released and does not look like this or better, I will deem the programmers incompetent and undeserving of their salaries. Expand

Honestly talking, this is an amazing game. Yes the story line is a tad stale, but i dont play games for story so I dont care. The multiplayer is hands down the most "action dense" gameplay I have ever experienced on any console. The graphics are amazing. The gameplay is amazing. The destructibles are jaw dropping. Like others said, the graphics are awesome but that can't help the other issues. First, single player is just completely boring, killzone suffers from Gears of War envy and does it's best to rip off the characters and dialog, but does it with much harsher (and annoying language) and uninspiring generic levels. But who really cares about single player, I buy shooters for the multi-player and here lies the reason I will be trading it in this week, the controls are horrible. Even with the sensitivity tweaked all the way up you constantly feel like you are walking in mud. Trying to aim at someone can be an exercise in not throwing your controller across the room, especially after you go to move the gun and u suddenly pop into a melee strike or out of aim. The lousy controls cause multiplayer games to be stripped of their strategic elements and become large like the invasion of normandy where you are just throwing bodies at one of another. I understand at some level that the developers may have done this on purpose to simulate real life, but it just doesn't work and makes for a frustrating experience. Expand

Zooming in takes too long and when you hide the zoom automatically zooms back out, meaning everytime you peak out you have to re zoom which takes time. Zooming is different with every gun and when you aim while your zoomed in it moves way too slow. Other than Zooming being pointless, so is the damn hiding. They failed at the cover system miserably. When you take cover they still manage to shot you and the control when you take cover is astonishingly awful. Plus, when you throw a grenage it only goes like ten feet and it takes a couple seconds to throw it, meaning that you have to stand there and get shot at everytime you throw a grenade and if you turn around too quickly you end up throwing it somewhere else. As cool as the guns are you can only hold one at a time, other than your useless pistol. Why did they decide to do that? Who only wants one gun at a time? I know most people dont agree with me, but the graphics arent good. The levels are repetitive and boring looking. Nothing cool looking like in Gears 2 or Resistance 2. Just factories and hallways. The enemies are all exactly the same too. Not nearly as good as the Gears 2 enemies. The difficulty balance was also way off, and sometimes it would instantly get way harder. The only thing I thought was excellent in this game was the music. Get Gears 2 or Resistance 2 if you want a similar but SUPERIOR game. Did the graphics meet the bar set by the E3 trailer from 2005? Absolutely. Is it a solid FPS? Oh yeah. Is the game innovative? In my opinion, Yes. Did it live up to the hype? Try it yourself and you tell me. Let me get to the one gripe of the game first, the Controls: I was not entirely pleased until I found out the problems most people have are caused by a Display setting on their PS3s. The controls are fine, work great. It was the complaint about latency (lag) when trying to aim or move. Cross Color Filter Reduction is causing havoc for many gamers. Turn this off and BAM! Problem solved, controls feel more responsive. Graphics: Best in class. Best of the Best. At first, they didn't seem to be that great. In some ways I felt Gears of War 2 and Metal Gear Solid 4 looked better. Until I moved past the first 2 levels. Once you get to the 3rd stage, wow. Unbelievable. Everything really begins to pick up and you are in for an outstanding visual treat. It is truly a stunning game that will amaze anyone with the high level of detail and thumping crisp sound. Oh the sound. It's an overload of the senses. Innovation: Many people say the game did not innovate. I would happily challenge anyone to debate on this topic. Sure many things included are standard FPS features. Level styles, turret and vehicle segments, cover system, destructible environment, online class system, and proximity chat. Yet, not many games have been able include all of this within one title. Actually, I can only think of one game that has done all of these in one installment; Killzone 2. The developers made the cover system work well for the first time in an FPS while remaining in First Person View. F.E.A.R. dabbled at it, but it felt tacked on and weak. Rainbow Six Vegas has a working version, but changes to 3rd person to make it effective. There is far more destructible environments than I initially expected which really adds to the immersion of a great title. Story: Not Oscar winning dialog or story. No. People complain about the fowl language used in the game. To those people who complain about it; How many military branches do you know of where, when they are at war and are in the heat of battle talk like a college professor? If I'm being shot at while on the battlefield of a war, you better be %$#-@#$% #*$^&@#! right I am going to get fowl mouthed. Its your typical macho men war style talk. What do you expect? Dialog found in Driving Miss Daisy? I hope not. Multiplayer: Community. Deep. Addictive. Fast. Chaotic. Everything you want in an online shooter. Class system with customizable options (similar to FFXI sub-jobs) really flesh out the online space and turn it into an FPS/RPG. Leveling up hasn't felt so rewarding since Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare. With so many classes, weapons, badges, ribbons, and trophies to unlock. There is plenty there to keep everyone busy for many many months (or years) to come. Complete with leaderboards, stat tracking, Clan system, Join friend/clan options. Doesn't get much better than this. Co-op: Minimal co-op options, but with the option to have online bots what's so different from this and Gears' Horde mode? Sure a co-op story would have been nice, but I am happy the team behind Killzone 2 remained focus on creating one of the best multiplayer experiences on any platform. Besides, I hear the developers are looking into expanding co-op functionality via DLC! Gameplay 9.8 Graphics 10 Sound 10 Presentation 10 Story 9.0 ------------ Overall 9.75 Expand

I liked Killzone 2 at first, but my initial feelings for it didn't last. The graphics are unquestionably up there with the likes of MGS4. No question, these graphics are mindblowing. Possibly better than Gears 2, but I need to see both games next to eachother to be sure. The gameplay is something you would expect from a shooter with as much hype as KZ2 got. It's intense. However, even with all of these good points I still can't help but be disappointed. The story is crap and the characters are worse. Most of the time you wont even care about what they are saying. The fact that only a fraction of people playing KZ2 would have played KZ1 (which was really awful) makes the story even more meaningless. The final boss is actually harder than the whole of single player, which I hate. The controls are shaky and a bit delayed at times, the aiming is inconsistent which will then become frustrating, it hampers the experience. You can get used to the controls with time but they need to be fixed. Multiplayer is pretty good but there aren't many levels to play in. Not to say that the levels are bad, but there are only 8 maps. The multiplayer can be a joyful experience, but again the controls sometimes ruin it, on FPS's I usually play on the highest sensitivity but with KZ2 the higher you increase the sensitivity the worse it gets. Overrated, but not as bad as some games have been. Now, is this game better than Call of Duty WaW and Halo? Maybe. Is it better than Call of Duty 4? No. Expand

My only complaint is that the controls are a bit too slow and unresponsive. Especially with the vehicles. Guerrilla has taken their FPS & made it a gritty, visceral experience that gave me an honest sensation of uneasiness about entering its fields of combat (yes, I almost felt afraid to enter the game it immersed me that much). They have achieved this not only with incredible graphics & environmental detail (from lingering dust in the air & your rifle scope after close explosions to rebar seen under bullet shattered concrete pillars), but they have succeeded in fleshing out the Helgast enemies. They are no longer just the 2 dimensional cardboard cutouts that pop out in fixed locations for me to shoot. From the opening speech of Helghast leader, Emperor Visari (again masterfully portrayed by Brian Cox) I knew this wasn't going to be any ordinary arcade shooter. Guerrilla has given us an enemy as tenacious & fanatical about fighting off invaders of their homeland as the SS was in the later days of World War II. They run & duck under cover when shot at and they cry out in pain when shot. The have become actual characters for me to know & fear. People who have long forsaken any diplomacy (I say people because I felt like I was fighting people, unlike other games such as COD4 online, while a superior game, still felt more like a game of tag) Alas, there is a little bit on the down side. Some of the in game dialogue did get a bit repetitive (Nice shot! yadda yadda) & somewhat juvenile. But even that wasn't enough for me to drop the score down a whole point. This is a game that deserve every one of its five stars from Playstation Magazine. To me, well worth the new release price. Expand

Create a clan, recruit members, and battle other clans in scheduled tournaments for "Valor" points. Badges allow you to mix and match various abilites which are unlocked as you rank up. Feel like practicing a bit before going head to head with other gamers online? Bots are available for just that. Highly detailed environments with amazing lighting and excellent sound make the levels come alive. Cons : Corny dialogue. Some of the dialogue in the game just seems plain silly at times and will make you pretend you didn't hear that. Controls feel somewhat sluggish and will take some getting used to, but by no means do they break the game. Lack of Co-op. A lack of a cooperative mode was a slight disappointment, an already amazing single player campaign would've been a blast to play through with a friend or two online. Because youve played cod4 online for 13 weeks is not an excuse to hate on a game thats controls arent the same. Now these controls can be changed in KZ2, they are not the issue. The only thing that may be at issue here, is the sensitivity, which you just have to get used to because its based off of realistic weight properties. Please carry a gun and tell me how fast you can turn, KZ2 will closer to it than cod4, so those complaining about that need to stop. I rate it a 9 because of some of the AI issues. They dont kill the game, but are irritating, at least to me. The AI can be cheap at times, killing you as you turn a corner (ex, i opened a door which i was suppose to, was killed instantly by a Helgast with a shotgun... lame). Your teammates often stand around, but mostly if its just you and one other guy, when its several they do fine. But mostly they dont seem to help too much. And they story could have been a little more in depth, but its at least solid. Cover system works well, multiplayer is too. up to 32 players with no lag is amazing. Yes it has classes, as unlockables, but that is a bad idea for the future of the game. Gunplay is ok, again average, only being able to hold 2 guns makes it more realistic but if you do that, do not make the player pick up a rocket launcher just to open up a gate or something then have to swap back, its annoying.Other than that guns pretty generic (see the pattern here!) the gun with a dot scope, the single shot accurate gun etc, the cover system works quite well in single player, dunno why it doesn;t seem to be in multi or it is and I just havn;t spotted it Yes it has tacked on motion controls, and I am yet to figure out why reviewers are ok with ps3 tacked on motion controls when wii tacked on motion controls make them foam at the mouth and drop the score by 2 points. All in all a average shooter, kudos to the developer they did a good job, but with other shooters out there they really needed to do something different! (oh also why not 1080p? how long before developers can get the true power of the machine out of it). Expand

I have not had so much fun with a console FPS in a long time. The online component is simply stunning and I have a feeling I'll be letting my XBL account deactivate because of this. With lack of a better ability to describe it this game is just that much fun and it amazing.

Gorgeous game, most realistic animations i've seen yet. opening cutscene is epic, and the game just feels massive in scope and immersive. enemy is varied, and looks great. its nice to have an epic looking enemy, ones that look like they actually pose a real threat. design in this game makes everything look really awesome, but everything is designed for utility... for a sci-fi Gorgeous game, most realistic animations i've seen yet. opening cutscene is epic, and the game just feels massive in scope and immersive. enemy is varied, and looks great. its nice to have an epic looking enemy, ones that look like they actually pose a real threat. design in this game makes everything look really awesome, but everything is designed for utility... for a sci-fi shooter, nothing seems too weird or misdesigned. For me not scoring a massive 10, its nearly perfect in every aspect, except for one i cant put my finger on. Is it the controls? the slightly low fps (doesn't show except at 1 point) I do not know, all i know is this is a game that will go down in history as haven't graphics that nearly match the massive PC game Crysis, I don't know how they did it on the ps3 , and tbh im For me not scoring a massive 10, its nearly perfect in every aspect, except for one i cant put my finger on. Wow - what an epic shame. This game was a fun - if rather repetitive & unimaginative - shooter, right up until the last boss. I always hate it when you sail through a game, then crash into a point where you get totally stuck - and for me that point in Killzone 2 has been the final boss battle. I can only presume that whatever I'm doing (shooting him with bullets) is pointlessly wrong. This has actually retrospecively ruined the whole game for me, which would have otherwise got 8 from me - as it is, I really wish I hadn't bought it. Well done Havok / Sony / whoever - that's quite an accomplishment! Expand

This game is seriously the BEST FPS i've ever experienced. The online is awesome, the story is amazing. The graphics are jaw dropping. What more do I need to say?? If you own a PS3 then you MUST get this game, you won't regret it. If you don't have a PS3 then I feel bad for you LOL! KZ2 for the win! Great job Sony & Guerilla Games!

This game is amazing, the sounds effects are incredible and the level of immersion is unmatched. Graphically, I've never seen anything like it on a console game. Gameplay takes a bit of getting used to, but once you've played an hour or so you realise it is top draw. I had heard the storyline was weak, however I found it solid and got engaged in the characters. It's true that Killzone 2 is filled with moments that can handily be described as inspiring awe. Each scene is incredibly well detailed, from the gaps in jerry-rigged cover points letting you sneak in a killing headshot to scarred and scratched textures, the planet feels entirely believable... Without a doubt Killzone fans, action and shooter fans of any stripe will instantly tag this sequel as a powerful contender for best game of 2009. [Feb 2009, p.38]
  2. Killzone 2’s secret ingredient is the fluidity in gameplay that we have come to enjoy more than its graphical prowess or jaw-dropping visuals. And that’s what games have always been about... We're surprised to see Killzone 2 blows our expectations out of the water with a memorable SP campaign and a stellar MP component. To put it short, this game makes "Gears of War 2" look like a high school attempt at gaming and that is a HUGE compliment!
