InFamous 2 is yet another example of the technological breakthroughs slowly beginning to appear in contemporary games. Every aspect of a successful game is evident in final chapter of the Infamous series. Spectacular graphics, a well written and credible plot and qualitative game-play give you a gaming experience like no other. A credit to Sucker Punch and a masterpiece of gaming.

The game is absolutely brilliant. For the past 6 months games have let me down a lot and I just couldn't get immersed into a games world or relate to any character in any of the 10 or so games I've played since Christmas. From enemies that have Ice powers that use an Ice jump to move around the city or summon Ice towers from underneath them to shoot you from high ground. There's also swamp monsters that come in all shapes and sizes and human militia that come with all types weapons ranging from shotguns to assault rifles and sniper rifles. You also have two companions that have super powers and they serve as your good and bad karma partners. I recommend this game to anyone who likes Open world games and great stories Expand

inFamous 2's improved combat and momentum, emotionally satisfying story, and increased number of set pieces make it much improved over it's predecessor. The game isn't flawless, but it is definitely worth a purchase.

Not a bad game. The story progresses nicely and the powers are nicely set and done. But the gameplay gets a little old towards the end. I can say it's a little repetitive for my taste. Still the gameplay, story, characters were nicely done. The music in this game is one of the best I've seen

I liked/enjoyed it, up to a point. I just finished the second run as I was aiming for platinum. That's the only motivation I had to go for the second run, as evil. The main minus is the gameplay itself. It's pretty much the same over and over. Besides, I really don't care for playing evil. It's against my personal values, even i a game. Playing on "Hard" when the game itself suggests it, isn't good enough. Well, I'm not playing it for the third time. I am ready to move on, and say R.I.P. to Infamous 2. I had some fun, but just about 6 worth of it.
The user generated missions found around the maps are innovative. The quality varied, but it's a plus to the game.
All in all an OK game , but not a must have, imho.

Although the game may not run at 60fps, it often does feel that way. The game runs incredibly smooth and fluid, has no screen tearing, and no blur when you move the camera fast to the left or to the right. inFAMOUS 2 is also much more colourful then the first one, which is a big plus imo, you just have to see the city for yourself to experience how amazing it is, and how fluid. The game also never gets dull, or boring, there's always something to do, to see, or to find. The chemistry and vibe that this game brings is also amazing. A big plus is also the soundtrack played in the game, it's in the background allot, and really makes the game more dynamic, and alive. There are only 2 things imo which inFAMOUS 1 did better, it was the original voice cast that was better, and Cole's appearance, he just looks to "clean" in 2, and he sounded more "raw" in the first one. These are the only things i can come up with, which were better in the first one. The game definitely deserves a 10/10 imho, and is the first game that came out this year that's in line for game of the year ! This game is the best open world / sandbox game i have seen or played this generation. Expand

It definitely improved on the first game, and introduced a host of new characters, with the ever present morality system to spice up the game a bit. Sucker Punch has delivered on something quite magical with this game, and I certainly hope they deliver another sequel or even a spinoff.

This is a Phenomenal game and a vast improvement over the first which was also good but needed some polish. They removed some of the less stellar game play scenarios and added so much to the combat. The battles are intense and fulfilling and some of the environment is destructible too. Overall a top notch game.

Good game, improvement over the first one ( and that one was already quite nice imo ). Enjoying every minute of it =)
There are some minor tech issues I noticed like textures loading a bit too late, but that was when I was electro-grinding on some wires at a high speed. And it was like 0.5 seconds of blurry building so it really didn't bother me.

Infamous 2 was an up and down hill of a story, it started off fantastically and then it dropped off, til the point where i didn't even want to finish the game anymore, but then the game got incredible again... it followed this patter throughout the entire game, however the story itself is quite good, but even better is the fantastic array of powers that will surely make you feel "badass"

It seemed as if the characters were super shallow, as if somebody tried to give them personality but failed. In Infamous 1, the characters were non-existant, which was frankly better. Overall, the presentation was........eh. Game play wise, I think it was somewhat less than average. There was hype about feeling powerful, but I didn't feel powerful at all. The controls were a bit sticky but passable. I didn't like the boss battles either, they were very generic and uninteresting. Lastly, Cole moved too fast, and I found it difficult to control him properly. The game was one of the biggest disappointments ever. Expand

My feeling about the game is just spot as described in "deathsmiles"'s review. This game is just about running from a checkpoint to another and repeating beating similar gangs again and again in a very bland and lack-of-interactive small town. You even never expect combat inside buildings except in some shabby factories.
These gangs are just stupidly standing on the corners of streets and waiting for you coming to trigger their script like robot.
The idea of open world simply does not work in the game because such a flat city(sorry, a small town) will not ignite your any interest to explore, such as just crust of crap buildings no way to enter, only 3-4 very outdated car models also no way to drive, NPCs lack of emotion, meaningless side missions... All these give me a feeling that this town is like a piece of .
Another thing makes me very feel wired is that the art style of the city seems like sth from a hybrid of med century and industrial era (but after all, it is a bit confusing that what the hell the era is the town in. The minimum is that the town is really shabby, lack of reality and diversity)..., but does the story happen on a modern era? This is too contradicted, isn't it?
Yes, I know, because designing a more sophisticated and based-on-reality world needs more efforts on inspection in the real world like what Rock Star have to do, and also needs much more art and engineering job to digitize elements into game, lazy first for infamous' developer.

This is the right way to do a sequel for sure! It takes everything good about the original and builds on it. The storytelling doesn't feel as rushed and even though the moral choices are a bit A/B, it still makes me want to go back and play through again.

The only bummer is that the only way to play this on current gen systems is through streaming on PSNow, which is a terrible service.

As "fathergod" said, it seems you just collect shards, do the minor side missions, and that's about it. Plus, the game is super buggy. Audio hasn't seemed to work properly the whole time I've been playing; cutscenes have frozen/crashed; and spots to activate missions often don't trigger the mission.

A brilliant evolution of the first game. Better story, more refined controls and best of all new kick ass powers! I love the flying/hover physics in this game... I am only half way though but its a hell of a lot of fun. Considering how bad most superhero games suck, this game is one of the best in its genre so far.

The first inFamous was one of the best games I had ever played. It was great in the pacing, size of the open world, and the story. This one takes everything that made the first great and made them better! The melee is great and the amount of powers that can be used is mind boggling. If you at all liked the first then this is a no brainer, get this game.

Absolutely great game!!! Sucker Punch studios improved everything of the first game and then some. Just played my first playthrough as a good guy, now it's infamous playthrough. Great Cinematics, good comic-book style storytelling. Absolutely recommend if you like open world type games. If you're into shooters, stick to COD 400, if not, definitely give this great game a shot!!!

You have the powers from inFamous 1, plus a ton of new ones. If you thought the story in #1 was awesome, wait till you see this one. This game holds a special place in the PS3 collection. (9.1/10)

There is a great array of new powers, some which are basically upgrades of original powers, some which are completely new and help you get around the city. Some really put a smile on my face using them to zoom around the city, which is a great thing to do. There is a lot to do in the city, especially now user-created missions are implemented. The characters are good, and there is even some rivalry around Cole which makes him more human. If you enjoyed the first one, you're going to have a lot of fun playing this one. If you haven't played the first one, go to that now and play this one right after that. Everything in New Marais is great to do, whether that is zooming and grappling around town with your electric players, combatting mutants and ice soldiers with electricity and rockets, saving innocent civilians from the evil Militia or rule the town with an iron fist yourself. This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. infamous 2 was definitely my most anticipated game this year as the first was so great. the second is even better in nearly every way. everything has been improved from combat to traversing to the powers and graphics. one thing that has been improved but still isn't perfect is the choice system. although there r 2 alternate endings and u get different powers depending on if your good or evil, most of the choices u make don't hold any significant weight. none of the decisions u make up to the last decision have any bearing on it. u can b good and still choose the evil ending or vice versa. even after choosing nix or kuo u can still choose to do good or evil missions so choosing between them makes no difference except for the powers you get. this was a disappointment but this is nonetheless a great game and a must buy if you got the first one. oh and there's user generated content which will give more gaming time on top of the long story mode (10 hours minimum if u complete twice) Expand

Infamous 2 is third person open world action game set in New Marais. New Marais is a fictional city based on New Orleans. Your character, Cole McGrath, has electrical superpowers. You roam around New Marais using all of your availible powers to defeat all sorts of baddies. You unlock the ability to unleash different electrical powers depending on whether you choose to be good or evil. To use your powers, you aim using L1 and press a button to use the corresponding power. The camera zooms in and looks more like a third person shooter perspective. You have limited electricity to use your powers, but it can be recharged by draining the electricity from a nearby object. No spoilers here, but at a certain point in the game, you can obtain either fire powers or ice powers. Simply put, I love Infamous 2's gameplay. Aside from a few problems, it is nearly flawless. The problems include: the camera occasionally gets a little out of control and that the meelee combat feels a little wonky and bland. But, as far as gameplay goes, it is one of the greatest of this generation.

Graphics - 8/10 (This section also includes sound and voice acting) Infamous 2's visuals are sharp and pretty. The environments are fairly varied for a game set in a city. The game runs at a steady framerate, and the animations are fluid and entertaining. The electrical powers light up the screen and are beautiful to watch. The sound is great. Cole's voice actor has changed from the original game, making him sound less pissed off and angsty than the first game, and it definately matches the less dark mood of Infamous 2 when compared to the original Infamous. Cole wouldn't be able to make the few jokes that he made in Infamous 2 if he still had the gravely voice from the first game. Overall, the other characters are voiced very well. The music does a very good job of immersing the player in the experience. The only problems I have with the visuals and the sound are that the visuals are great, but nothing that pushes the boundries of the ps3 and the same goes for the sound.

    Story - 9/10

The story of Infamous 2 is simply fantastic. Like I said earlier, I will keep this spoiler free. It has happy moments, sad moments, and even a bit of humor tossed into the mix. The side characters, especially Zeke, were developed very well. Both the good and evil paths give slightly different stories throughout the game, but at the end, they give two drastically different endings. Both of them are extremely emotional, and one of them actually made me cry. The one gripe I have with the story is how black and white the karma decisions are. You can find out more about what I have to say here. It should be noted that the story is better enjoyed if you played the first game. This is hard to talk too much more about the story without spoiling anything, so all I need to say is: I thoroughly enjoyed Infamous 2's story, and you will too.

    Replay Value/Length - 9/10

Infamous 2 will take you about 20 hours to complete all of the story and side missions, with about another 5-7 hours to find all of the collectibles such as blast shards and dead drops. You will definately want to play through the game again with the opposite karma, adding on another 25-ish hours. Also, there is a deep UGC mission creation tool. It allows players to make very complex missions, but it is very confusing and there is not real tutorial as to how to use it. There are a few good missions now, and I'm sure there will be more to come, but I doubt it will ever pan out as well as LittleBigPlanet's UGC community. Closing Comments

Infamous 2 is one of my favorite games this generation, much less this year. It is beautiful, lengthy, it has a great story, and above all, it is tons of fun. This is one of the top reasons to own a PS3, and if you don't own a PS3, this should go on to your list of games to play if you ever pick up a PS3. Overall score - 9/10

However, melee combat is a bit sketchy with the camera and I found that the hero powers were much more useful/powerful than the infamous ones. The firebird technique loses all momentum afterwards and you can't use your thrusters afterwards. The ice launch, on the other hand, is great for getting around. The bolt stream is totally awesome as its like a machine gun but the scythe bolt pales in comparison.

I was a little bummed about the music in the second infamous game. The music was so great in the first game but I barely heard any memorable melodies in the sequel. The motion-capture cutscenes are a welcome addition to the comic book style ones. The characters have great depth and interesting personalities. Honestly, I was a little disappointed with the endings as they left little chance for a direct sequel. The evil ending was very captivating and tragic and I was pleased how SuckerPunch's writers handled that.

My biggest issues with the game come from 2 things. The first being that while having the option to choose good / evil outcomes, the main character still comes off confused over his own personality. Even if you play 100% good, some cut scenes depict your character worrying about people, the next acting like a bad ass renegade who is better then everyone. It leaves a bland feeling that your story choices aren't having the effect you assumed they would. My second issue is with the bosses. The first game had power house type bosses unique to the game that felt like a Super Hero vs Super Villain fight. This game however recycles the majority of bosses over and over again in side missions and random encounters without changing or improving the fight mechanics of said enemy. Expand

It in fact became my favourite game of all time and when I finished it I naturally became hyped for a sequel, and when it was announced I screamed with happiness. The second it came to store shelves I went there and bought it, platinumed it. And how do I feel afterwards? Well now I'm really hoping fora sequel all right, but I think the developers (sucker punch) will do the same mistake like they did with infamous 2 and infamous 1, not in the game itself, but advertising it. They just gave away too much and it really made me go "meh" when I could have gone "Woah" if they wouldn't have said so much about the game in interviewes and all sorts. What I think lacked is that how many opportunities they had but they didn't fully use every single one of them. They could have made some groundbreaking moments in the game that would have really made the gamer excited to see what was coming but unfortunately they don't try as many risks as they did in the first game, and I think video game developers tend to do this a lot, the first game has to be groundbreaking, fresh, new so the public will like it, and when it comes to the second game they can't really risk it due to it might anger some people in the community, like how they decided to change Cole, fans went furios. But that's really what makes infamous 2 not be a masterpiece, it lacks that element of hard work, sweat and teers that the first game had. You felt like you were really playing "the start of something" when you were playing infamous 1, so sadly this really disappoints me. However, I still think this game is one of the best out there and a real refreshment for people who want to try out something new. A must buy from PS3 owner

I was surprised how epic the campaign was. Some missions were pure filler, but the high points felt like a real superhero adventure. The presentation impressed me, in awe of the lighting-effects. I didn't make sense of the story until after it ended, because parts of it are revealed in collectibles. It was fun to try some user-generated levels, and even easily make my own surreal level. I'd say it's a great game if you expect a true 'American' superhero adventure, especially you like the idea of jumping around to scavenge collectibles in a city, which I found was good fun after the campaign. Overall, engaging and very well made entertainment. Not a system-seller of a game, but grand scale fun nonetheless. Expand

This game has improved alot from the original, but somehow, I like the first one better. Combat is big improvement, very smooth and fluent. Story is fine. This game has lost the feature of "parkour" and platform. I really liked the idea of jumping around on buildings, gave me very exciting moments in the first game. This game also has a little enemies. The bosses are not interesting. ForThis game has improved alot from the original, but somehow, I like the first one better. Combat is big improvement, very smooth and fluent. Story is fine. Improves on the predecessor in nearly every department. The plot, the gameplay, the environments and the features make a very solid and much improved entry to the inFamous series, which I hope goes on from here to become the household name I know it can be.

Infamous 2 does the original a lot of justice. The gameplay and graphics are much improved over the original. New Marais offers has a great amount of detail in it. Cole also feels a lot more powerful this time around. The story is strong and picks up right around where the first game left off. The ending should leave you satisfied. All in all, one of the best PS3 exclusives.

Excellent game, it shows a maturity on Infamous saga, the controls are improved, the history is more interesting and the combat system is not longer boring as the first, the graphics are very good worked and finally its a very good ending at the waiting for the new generation.

Cole MacGrath is really cool. For this, the game deserves an 8. The graphics have nothing very special, but the lightning effects, blur, explosions and stuff deserve 8. The sound and soundtrack amuse me. That's a 9 for the audio. The gameplay is good. They're quite always the same (not including the CGU online missions). Roaming free in New Marais gives nice possibilities to be good or evil, but picking blast shards is just boring. Big 8 for gameplay. Overall, inFAMOUS 2 is a nice game. It has nice characters and a fair story. It's a very original game Sucker Punch delivered for PS3 costumers. 8 for this game. Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. The bluray/bluray game play functionality broke on my PS3 and of course the warranty was up. So I had to grab another one. I got Infamous 2 with a package deal. On my first run-through it seemed like a lot of fun. However, it does still have many of the same issues and bugs from the first one. I know developers can't read your mind, but when you are trying to run away from something (or a hoard of things) or are just on a timed mission, Cole constantly tends to grab on just about everything. At first it wasn't too annoying, but when the battles get more difficult with mobs that can kill you in one hit, it can be frustrating to latch onto a power line pole when trying to avoid a deadly projectile. The game scoops you in from the beginning and morality is started at the first mission. There are some loopholes for the fanatics of this series to nitpick, but the game play is still pretty fun. There is nothing like throwing a car at an enemy or using tether to leap large distances. As for the ending, I found the "bad" ending to be much better than the "good" ending. I have to give it to the developers on one thing, though. At least they didn't follow the new "2" Ex style push-a-button-for-your-fate-regardless-of-what-actions-you-took-to-get-there. Which seems to be more abundant in other games lately. Other reviewers say that it is contradictory in several ways to its predecessor, and it is in many ways. There are many loopholes and plot pieces that are just thrown in. It also doesn't have the same mystique as the first game. All-in-all, since I got it for free, it was a pretty good game. However, if you are on a tight budget, you might want to consider buying it used or borrowing it from a friend. Expand

Great game. It can get repetitive like the first one, but they've made very fun additions to the game play (like being able to lift a car and throw it). Strong story, with strong characters. I liked how how you can create your own missions concept, because there really isn't much to do after you've beat the game.

Brilliant. Just brilliant. Even though the story wasn't as strong as the original, what it lacks in story, it makes up for in the gameplay. I just finished inFAMOUS and then played inFAMOUS 2, and after a while it started to get very repetitive. Although I love both games, the side missions could've been more interesting as after a while they started to feel like a chore.. but that's now if you want to platinum your games like me!

Come, on. If Yahtzee, a Game-Critic who rips popular game apart like Metal Gear Solid 4, can even place InFamous 2 on his Top 5 Game of 2011, what have you got to lose? I got it, and I cannot agree more.

    1. Graphics is more polished than the already brilliant InFamous 1. 2. Side-Characters are excellent, very good development. Zeke rulez! 3. Ending is superiorly satisfying. 4.

It seems the control scheme is always thinking opposite of the player's action. When you want it to be precise, no "auto grab", or "auto balance", or "assisted movement" to be found. When you're in a hurry to move somewhere, Cole becomes fascinated with every parkour object in the environment right next to him, making for easy pickins by the enemies.

There are at least several ways this could be easily addressed, with one being a "grab" button, or "grab" toggle to help the logic differentiate between what the player's general movement plan for Cole was. With a little more effort (like, are there NPC enemies shooting at me?), adaptive movement could have been built in, making this a virtually flawless gaming experience. Look to Nathan Drake on how to do game movement right.

So, to recap: Game elements and general concept a 9 for 50%, game control a 5 for 50%, average rating a 7.

Choosing between Nix and Lucy Kuo was hard and in the when they revealed their real inside. The ending was so surprising who would say that Cole dies on the ending? I don't really like when a hero die in the ending, because it could end the series. Let's see maybe inFamous 3 would exist, who knows? Expand

inFamous 2 doesn't make many missteps. It may lack the polish and big name license of the recent Batman games, but for a solid and dependable superhero videogame, there aren't many more enjoyable and more consistent than this excellent superpowered romp.

Whether you're a fan of the first inFAMOUS or new to the series, the amount of gameplay and riveting story should please all. A few small tweaks to the Move controls would go a long way in improving the overall feel of the game but an absolutely fantastic and worthwhile title nonetheless.

A very good superhero's sandbox. There's a lot fighting, but it's good fighting. A lot of replay potential. The level editor is a worthy bonus, too. [Aug 2011]
